Security Scheme by Using Steganography in Multi-ModelBiometric System

The process of automatically identifying a person based on their physiological and behavioural traits is known as biometric recognition. A unimodal or multimodal biometric system might be based on physiological or behavioural traits. Some shortcomings in the unimodal biometric system include spoofing, non- universality, intra-class differences, and noisy data. Using the face and palm images as templates, we are implementing a multimodal biometric system. A person's palm image can provide a wealth of detailed information about them. Palm image have three major lines, name as principle line, secondary line and wrinkles which are unique in nature. Face image have more feature than any other biometric traits. Face image is recognized easily in less time. Combining these two biometric template gives higher security. Message image kept secretly in the cover image called stego image. In this steganography technique we are using palm image as a Message and face image as a cover image. After getting stego image Identification process works. The important featureof identification process id De-Stego. This feature of identification will separate the message image (palm image) from cover image (face image). After separation of images the decision will take care, weather the image identified or notidentified.

Adaptive CAPTCHA: A CRNN-Based Text CAPTCHA Solver with Adaptive Fusion Filter Networks

Text-based CAPTCHAs remain the most widely adopted security scheme, which is the first barrier to securing websites. Deep learning methods, especially Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), are the mainstream approach for text CAPTCHA recognition and are widely used in CAPTCHA vulnerability assessment and data collection. However, verification code recognizers are mostly deployed on the CPU platform as part of a web crawler and security assessment; they are required to have both low complexity and high recognition accuracy. Due to the specifically designed anti-attack mechanisms like noise, interference, geometric deformation, twisting, rotation, and character adhesion in text CAPTCHAs, some characters are difficult to efficiently identify with high accuracy in these complex CAPTCHA images. This paper proposed a recognition model named Adaptive CAPTCHA with a CNN combined with an RNN (CRNN) module and trainable Adaptive Fusion Filtering Networks (AFFN), which effectively handle the interference and learn the correlation between characters in CAPTCHAs to enhance recognition accuracy. Experimental results on two datasets of different complexities show that, compared with the baseline model Deep CAPTCHA, the number of parameters of our proposed model is reduced by about 70%, and the recognition accuracy is improved by more than 10 percentage points in the two datasets. In addition, the proposed model has a faster training convergence speed. Compared with several of the latest models, the model proposed by the study also has better comprehensive performance.

Securing Images using Bifid Cipher associated with Arnold Map

In this paper, a scheme for image data security is designed by using Bifid cipher and Arnold map. The conventional 2D-Bifid cipher is changed to handle the encryption and decryption of color images. Further, a block-based method is realized using Arnold map to encrypt and decrypt the image data of square as well as non-square sizes. The proposed scheme is constructed on a widely adopted cryptographic framework, i.e., substitution-permutation design, where Bifid cipher-based scheme acts as a substitution layer and Arnold map-based scheme acts as a diffusion layer. The designed scheme has a huge key space with key sensitivity not only to accurate keys but also to their accurate orders. The practicability and performance of the designed scheme is validated by conducting a detailed analysis along with a comparative study. This paper contributes to a simple, efficient and secure image encryption method, which outperforms to the related works.

A color image encryption and decryption scheme based on extended DNA coding and fractional-order 5D hyper-chaotic system

With the advancement of information technology, the security of digital images has become increasingly important. To ensure the integrity of images, this paper presents a novel color image encryption and decryption architecture. Firstly, a fractional-order five-dimensional hyper-chaotic system (F5DHS) is proposed and used to generate chaotic sequences for permutation and diffusion processes. Secondly, the extended DNA encoding scheme is employed to generate more DNA encoding rules and four DNA computation methods are used to improve the security of the encryption scheme. Thirdly, a blocked image encryption method is designed to divide the color image into sub-blocks and then determine the DNA encoding, DNA decoding and DNA arithmetic rules for each sub-block based on chaotic sequences. Finally, the results of simulation experiments and security analysis show that the color image encryption algorithm has good encryption performance, a large secret key space, and strong robustness to noise and data loss attacks, indicating that the proposed encryption algorithm can effectively protect the secure communication of digital images.

A secure and efficient identity-based quantum signature scheme

In recent years, identity-based quantum signature protocols have received much attention due to their unique advantages. Based on Bell states, we propose an efficient identity-based quantum signature scheme. In our scheme, the signer’s private key is generated from their identity information. The signer uses the private key and secret parameters to generate a signature for the verifier. The verifier, who possesses the identity information of the signer, can authenticate the signature. Our proposed scheme ensures signature non-forgeability and non-repudiation. In addition, the protocol does not require the preparation of long-term quantum memory or the performance of quantum swap tests, making it more efficient than previous schemes.

Universalism versus residualism: a micro-simulation of alternative income maintenance schemes in South Korea

This article examines the past, present and future of income maintenance schemes in Korea. Historically, income security schemes have been built on the idea of work-centred social insurance supplemented by social assistance. This approach was based on the premise of full employment. While current schemes have achieved institutional completeness and have contributed to alleviating poverty and inequality, they have exhibited limitations in responding to the qualitative shifts of capitalism, leading to welfare blind spots. Various alternatives have been proposed, such as universal basic income (UBI), which aims for equality, and residual Safety Income (SI), which aims for efficiency. The objective of this study is to validate the effects of basic income proposals and SI as alternative income maintenance schemes emerging in Korea. We simulated and compared the poverty alleviation and income redistribution effects of the two alternatives using data from the Survey of Household Finances and Living Conditions (2019~2021). The effects of poverty alleviation and income distribution were determined by analysing the hypothetical changes in absolute and relative poverty rates, as well as the Gini coefficient. The efficiency of benefits was assessed as the ratio of the amount used to reduce the poverty gap out of the total benefit amount. The study found that while SI appeared cost-effective in addressing absolute poverty, UBI was also effective in addressing relative poverty and income inequality.

A secure and efficient authentication key agreement scheme for industrial internet of things based on edge computing

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is a pivotal driving force behind the intelligent transformation of the global industrial system, bringing about a gradual shift in production methods. However, due to users completing remote access and data transmission through open channels, ensuring user legitimacy and data security has become an important factor in IIoT. In addition, resource limited users or devices need to collect and publish corresponding messages while also timely processing instant messages obtained from the network. Leveraging edge computing technology effectively mitigates the transmission time of messages, addressing the challenges of high computing pressure and prolonged response time associated with cloud server computing. Therefore, investigating authentication key agreement based on edge computing in the IIoT environment holds substantial theoretical significance and practical importance. This article introduces an IIoT authentication that ensures both security and efficiency by integrating elliptic curve cryptography and three-factor authentication. Within this scheme, the user and the edge server accomplish security authentication. Through security analysis, the proposed scheme is proven to meet the essential security requirements. Performance analysis shows that it achieves higher security, supports more functions, and achieves lower computational and communication costs compared to related schemes.

RSDA: A Reliable and Secure Data Aggregation Scheme for Smart Grid

Smart grids are modern power distribution systems that utilize advanced technologies to optimize energy generation, distribution, and consumption. The huge amount of data generated by various sources, such as smart meters, sensors, and other devices, can be aggregated for efficient energy management, supporting demand response etc. However, this data can contain sensitive information about individual’s energy usage patterns, behaviour, and preferences, which raises several privacy concerns. Data reliability is another major issue, as the data send from the smart meters to the aggregators may get corrupted due to errors introduced by the communication channel. In this paper, a private-key additive homomorphic encryption scheme based on polar codes is proposed for privacy preserving data aggregation. The proposed scheme not only ensures data confidentiality but also provide data reliability. The security of this scheme relies on the difficulty in decoding the codeword and is achieved by embedding security in the generator matrix and error vector. Security analysis shows that the proposed scheme is resistant against all known attacks against private-key code-based cryptosystems. The performance analysis is evaluated in terms of error performance, communication overhead and computational complexity. The performance comparison with related additive homomorphic encryption scheme shows the efficiency of the proposed scheme.

A thorough analysis of security methods, including steganography, encryption, and compression, is presented along with a comprehensive assessment of current studies. Ensuring the security of medical images during transmission is crucial in safeguarding patient privacy. Steganography and cryptography are needed for secure transmission in order to maintain data integrity and confidentiality. An application to embed a video or audio content in another file is the project's development. Its focus is on securely and robustly embedding information under a seemingly innocent shroud. This system uses the ideas of cryptography and steganography to make the data more secure. Using an encryption technique that is resilient to various attacks over time is essential for improving the cryptography portion of the system. The paper's goal is to provide an overview and evaluation of each approach's various algorithms using several metrics, including PSNR, MSE, BER, and NC.

An active jamming-based helper deployment scheme for underwater acoustic sensor networks

Underwater acoustic sensor networks (UASNs) are usually deployed in unattended, opaque and even hostile environments; thus, they may face serious threats. In the last few years, physical layer security (PLS) has emerged as a new technique that can improve the security performance of networks. In this paper, we research the physical layer security scheme of UASNs by actively jamming against eavesdropping attacks. Utilizing the large propagation delay of the underwater acoustic (UWA) signal, the jamming signals can interfere with legitimate signals to prevent eavesdropping. Therefore, we propose an active jamming-based helper deployment scheme (AJHDS) for UASNs, which deploys the helpers to the target water area and realizes the secure transmission of the network. Both the simulation and field test results show that the scheme can significantly reduce the interception capability of eavesdroppers. Furthermore, the field sea experiment evaluates that the location of helpers affects the eavesdropper’s acquisition of legitimate data packets.

Secure cross‐chain transactions for medical data sharing in blockchain‐based Internet of Medical Things

SummaryBlockchain technology has greatly promoted the development of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) from a centralized form to a distributed form. However, with many independent blockchain‐based IoMT (BIoMT) systems being established by different institutions, these heterogeneous blockchain systems have created a new “data islands” problem. This paper proposes a multi‐chain fusion (MCF) multi‐party governance model based on relay chain technology. The MCF model helps establish cross‐chain interaction and communication among the multiple heterogeneous blockchain systems in different medical institutions through the cross‐chain gateway. Meanwhile, by utilizing the inter‐blockchain transfer protocol (IBTP), the MCF model takes responsibility for legitimacy verification and reliable routing of cross‐chain transactions, thus addressing the “data islands problem” inherent in traditional blockchain‐based medical systems. Then, an elliptic curve signature scheme is adopted to protect user privacy in cross‐chain transactions, which helps establish transaction verification for the MCF model in BIoMT systems. Finally, several experiments are carried out to prove the feasibility of the cross‐chain scheme and the security of the elliptic curve signature scheme, and the performance index of the cross‐chain system is evaluated. The performance results show that the MCF model can provide secure and efficient cross‐chain services for sharing medical data among heterogeneous BIoMT systems, thus addressing the “data islands problem” inherent in traditional blockchain‐based medical systems.

Biological neuron modeling based on bifunctional memristor and its application in secure communication

In recent years, memristors have shown great potential in building artificial neural networks. Many researchers have worked on improving and innovating the design of memristors. The bifunctional memristor proposed in this paper provides new ideas for establishing artificial neural networks. And a novel second-order memristor Hindmarsh–Rose neuron (SOM-HR) is constructed on this basis. The SOM-HR model can well simulate the dynamical behavior of the memristive autapse HR neuron under electromagnetic radiation (EMR), and many types of firing patterns, coexisting firing patterns and state transition are found. In addition, the correctness of the numerical simulation is verified by circuit simulation and digital signal processor (DSP) implementation. Finally, the chaotic sequences generated by this model are used for image encryption, which guarantees the security of the encryption scheme. The results of the study provide a reference for construction and application of complex neural network.

On the security risk of pre-image attack on cancelable biometrics

Over the years, a number of biometric template protection schemes, often based on the notion of “cancelable biometrics”, have been proposed. An ideal cancelable biometric algorithm complies with four criteria: irreversibility, revocability, unlinkability, and performance preservation. Cancelable biometrics employs an irreversible but distance preserving transformation to convert the original biometric templates into protected templates. Matching in the transform domain can be accomplished due to the property of distance preservation. However, distance preservation also entails security issues, a point often overlooked in existing research. In this paper, we have conducted a comprehensive security analysis of distance preservation in cancelable biometrics for the first time. The analysis is based on a pre-image attack, which is launched to break the security of cancelable biometrics under Kerckhoffs’s assumption. Furthermore, we propose a general security analysis framework under the single and cross-transformation attacks, which also employs an information leakage estimation strategy based on mutual information as a complement. The experimental results performed on real face, iris, and fingerprint data demonstrate that the risks originating from the matching scores computed from the distance/similarity of two cancelable templates greatly compromise the security of cancelable biometric schemes, including the classic Biohashing, Index-of-max hashing, Non-linear multi-dimensional spectral hashing, Indexing-First-One hashing, Bloom Filter and Two-factor Protected Minutia Cylinder-Code. The security versus accuracy trade-off is discussed and recommendations for designing a biometric system secure against pre-image attacks are also proposed. A secure and lightweight data management scheme based on redactable blockchain for Digital Copyright

Traditional Digital Copyright (DC) management system faces a single point of failure, and has no strict traceability. Meanwhile, the current blockchain-based DC schemes take less consideration to the authenticity of DC information stored on the blockchain. Additionally, the full node storage overhead and computation overhead of information retrieval and traceability increase significantly with the number of blocks. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a secure and lightweight data management scheme based on the redactable blockchain for DC. Users generate their public and private keys, which provide a legitimate signature. Then, we propose a transaction control mechanism based on ECDSA, which means that the storage of DC information can only be accomplished by providing a legitimate and verifiable signature, including registration and transaction information. Furthermore, we adopt blockchain to record DC information and the chameleon hash algorithm to modify DC information stored on the blockchain when making DC transactions, while keeping the block headers unchanged. System analysis and experimental results confirm that our scheme can address a single point of failure and ensure the authenticity of the information. Meanwhile, our scheme effectively reduces full node storage overhead, and computation overhead of information retrieval and traceability.

A Lightweight Secure Scheme for Underwater Wireless Acoustic Network

Due to the open underwater channels and untransparent network deployment environments, underwater acoustic networks (UANs) are more vulnerable to hostile environments. Security research is also being conducted in cryptography, including authentication based on asymmetric algorithms and key distribution based on symmetric algorithms. In recent years, the advancement of quantum computing has made anti-quantum attacks an important issue in the field of security. Algorithms such as lattice and SPHINCS+ have become a research topic of interest in the field of security. However, within the past five years, few papers have discussed security algorithms for UANs to resist quantum attacks, especially through classical algorithms. Some existing classical asymmetric and symmetric algorithms are considered to have no prospects. From the perspective of easy deployment in engineering and anti-quantum attacks, our research focuses on a comprehensive lightweight security framework for data protection, authentication, and malicious node detection through the Elliptic Curve and Hash algorithms. Our mechanism is suitable for ad hoc scenarios with limited underwater resources. Meanwhile, we have designed a multi-party bit commitment to build a security framework for the system. A management scheme is designed by combining self-certifying with the threshold sharing algorithm. All schemes are designed based on certificate-less and ad hoc features. The proposed scheme ensures that the confidentiality, integrity, and authentication of the system are well considered. Moreover, the scheme is proven to be of unconditional security and immune to channel eavesdropping. The resource and delay issues are also taken into consideration. The simulations considered multiple variables like number of nodes, attackers, and message length to calculate proper values that can increase the efficiency of this scheme. The results in terms of delay, delivery ratio, and consumption demonstrate the suitability of the proposal in terms of security, especially for malicious node detection. Meanwhile, the computational cost has also been controlled at the millisecond level.
