Chaos on a saturable optical dimer

A pair of periodically coupled and forced simple oscillators can exhibit aperiodic behaviors. Here we study the effect of periodic spatial modulations in an optical dimer composed of photorefractive saturable waveguides. The propagation of light along these waveguides as a function of the initial condition exhibits chaotic behaviors. The dynamical behaviors are elucidated based on the adequate representation of the variables, frequency spectra, and Poincaré sections. Homoclinic and heteroclinic entanglements associated with the hyperbolic points that separate the stable equilibria are the origin of the chaotic behavior. The different dynamical regimes have been characterized as a function of light power and initial conditions. Our results open the possibility of using optical saturable dimers in the secure transmission of information.

Robust Secure Energy-Efficiency Optimization in SWIPT-Aided Heterogeneous Networks With a Nonlinear Energy-Harvesting Model

Secure information transmission and energy efficiency (EE) optimization are very important for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-aided heterogeneous networks. However, most of the existing works consider perfect channel state information (CSI) and linear energy harvesting (EH) models, which are too ideal in practical systems. In this article, we focus on the EE-based robust optimization with imperfect CSI and nonlinear EH models in a SWIPT-aided two-tier heterogeneous macro-femto network with multiple eavesdroppers. In particular, we formulate a robust beamforming problem by jointly optimizing the beamforming vectors of the macro base station (BS) and femto BSs, the power splitting (PS) factors of energy receivers, and the artificial noise vectors of BSs, under multiple constraints including the quality of service requirement of each user, the minimum harvested energy, the maximum transmit power, and the PS factor. Although the formulated robust optimization problem is nonconvex, an EE-based iterative algorithm is developed to obtain the solutions. Simulation results demonstrate the proposed algorithm is superior to other algorithms in terms of EE and security.

Performance Investigation of a High Data Rate Mode Division Multiplexed-Free Space Optics Link Under Harsh Weather Conditions

The requirement of high data rate information transmission is rising exponentially for supporting different services including social networking, web streaming, and biomedical sensor data transmission. Such services required high channel bandwidth with secure information transmission and immunity to electromagnetic interference. Radio over free space optics (RoFSO) is witnessed as a promising technological solution to provide high data rate transmission over free space channel. We report on the design of a 2×10 Gb/s-10 GHz RoFSO transmission system using the mode division multiplexing technique and evaluate its transmission performance over varying levels of dust weather conditions. The comparison of non-return to zero (NRZ) and return to zero (RZ) binary digital optical modulation techniques is carried out in the proposed system. It is found that the proposed system using NRZ modulation serves 14.5 km transmission range; however, in the case of RZ modulation, it was restricted to 10 km for a target bit error rate (BER) of 10−6, thus resulting in a noticeable link enhancement of 4.5 km. Also, we demonstrate NRZ-based MDM-RoFSO link performance and availability in dust weather conditions using the BER, maximum reachable link range, and eye diagram as key performance parameters. We obtain a reliable transmission of 20 Gb/s-20 GHz data through HG00 and HG01 channels over a link range of 2500–108 m depending on the external dust weather condition. Furthermore, since this investigation shows the feasibility of RoFSO for small size cells, which is an essential feature of 5G mobile network, the proposed system can thus be implemented as a backhaul/fronthaul link for high-band (above 6 GHz) 5G services and for providing secure transmission of biomedical sensor data.

Blockchain Framework for Communication between Vehicle through IoT Devices and Sensors

The advent of autonomous vehicles is indeed a potential field of research in today's situation. Connected Vehicles (CV) have received a lot of attention in the last decade, which has resulted in CV as a Service (CVaaS). With the advent of taxi services, there is a need for or demand for robust, seamless, and secure information transmission between the vehicles connected to a vehicular network. Thus, the concept of vehicular networking is transformed into novel concept of autonomous and connected vehicles. These autonomous vehicles will serve as a better experience by providing instant information from the vehicles via congestion reduction. The significant drawback faced by the invention of autonomous vehicles is the malicious floor of intruders, who tend to mislead the communication between the vehicles resulting in the compromised smart devices. To address these concerns, the best methodology that will protect and secure the control system of the autonomous vehicle in real time is blockchain. This research work proposes a blockchain framework in order to address the security challenges in autonomous vehicles. This research work enhances the security of smart vehicles thereby preventing intruders from accessing the vehicular network. To validate the suggested technique, money security criteria such as changing stored user ratings, probabilistic authentication scenarios, smart device compromise, and bogus user requests were employed. The observed findings have been documented and analysed, revealing an 82% success rate.

We present an implementation and macro system called Ostari, backed by a particular flavor of Dynamic Epistemic Logic, which allows us to scale the ideas to more realistic problems. We demonstrate how actions that manipulate agents' beliefs can be written concisely and how this capability can be applied to modeling a popular card game by utilizing our system's ability to execute action sequences, answer queries about knowledge states, and find action sequences to satisfy a particular goal.

Secrecy-enhancing design for two-way energy harvesting cooperative networks with full-duplex relay jamming

To guarantee secure information transmission within two sources, a full-duplex (FD) relay jamming scheme for two-way energy harvesting (EH) cooperative networks is proposed, in which the relay can achieve simultaneous information reception and jamming transmission. The EH relay node scavenges energy from two source signals, and then, uses the harvested energy for information relaying and jamming transmission by the power splitting (PS) protocol. Considering multiple eavesdroppers, the non-convex optimization for maximizing the smaller bidirectional secrecy rates is formulated by jointly optimizing the power allocation and PS factor. Furthermore, an iterative algorithm based on successive convex approximation and alternate search method is proposed to solve this non-convexity. Simulation results verify the proposed iterative algorithm and show that the proposed jamming scheme can achieve substantial performance gain than other conventional schemes.

D flip-flop based TRNG with zero hardware cost for IoT security applications

System-on-chips (SoCs) for the Internet of things (IoT) applications require hardware-based integrated random number generators for the secure transmission of information. However, they have limited hardware and power budget, which limits the use of on-chip dedicated True Random Number Generator (TRNG). In this work, a symmetric D flip-flop with integrated TRNG is proposed. The proposed architecture is implemented using a standard 40 nm CMOS technology. The post-layout simulation results show that it offers good randomness with low energy-per-bit. In addition, the circuit has passed all the tests of NIST without any post-processing. When compared with the conventional D flip-flop, it has almost negligible area overhead that is only 0.14%. An FPGA implementation is also presented as a proof of concept that confirms the simulation results. Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) key expansion algorithm is also implemented to demonstrate the dual usage of the proposed D flip-flop.

The basic functions of quantum mechanics related to the quantum communication are first introduced, including qubit, logic gates, postulates, polarization and quantum entanglement. Then the applications of quantum communication are discussed including teleportation, cryptography and quantum networks. Finally, advantages and disadvantages for the current applications are analyzed and the challenges remained in the current research are demonstrated.

Joint Clustering and Blockchain for Real-Time Information Security Transmission at the Crossroads in C-V2X Networks

The cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) networks support diverse kinds of services, such as traffic management, road safety, and sharing data. However, the safety issues cannot be ignored in the process of information transmission. In this article, a joint clustering and blockchain scheme is proposed for real-time information security transmission to prevent some vehicles from sending malicious messages to disrupt the traffic order at the crossroads in C-V2X networks. In this scheme, the dynamic stability of the cluster is maintained by updating the trust value of the vehicle nodes, which can improve the real time and accuracy of the information transmission. The modified Webster algorithm is presented to divert the traffic flow so as to reduce the traffic jams at the crossroads. Meanwhile, the blockchain technology is utilized to establish a vehicle trust management mechanism in C-V2X, which can avoid malicious tampering of vehicle information during information sharing and ensure the safety of vehicle information communication. The simulation results of the Veins simulation platform are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and verify that the proposed scheme can guarantee the security of real-time information transmission.

Another strength of the proposed algorithm compared to other methods is its higher capacity in watermarking. The proposed algorithm, using its special blocking method, has the ability to cover all types of video, both dynamic and static. Various tests have been applied to the selected dataset to analyze the security and the performance of the proposed algorithm. The results show that if the proposed algorithm is used in watermarking, in addition to high accuracy, it can have an acceptable resistance to attacks.

The information security transmission method for intelligent examination based on ZigBee communication

Aiming at the problems of low network utilisation, poor security and high cost in the traditional intelligent test information security transmission method, a ZigBee communication-based information security intelligent detection and transmission method is proposed. Network key and connection key are realised by using asymmetric key system. Public key encryption and private key decryption are used to verify the trust centre. The sending node uses the trust centre to get the public key of the target node so as to achieve the goal of the intelligent test information security transmission. The simulation results show that the network utilisation rate is above 96%, compared with the traditional method, the index level has been significantly improved. The efficiency of the proposed method is up to 99%. In terms of cost, the proposed method has a lower cost. When the running time reaches 920 min, the cost is RMB 17,000 yuan.

Relay Selection for Security Improvement in Cognitive Radio Networks with Energy Harvesting

This paper selects an unlicensed relay among available self‐powered relays to not only remain but also secure information transmission from an unlicensed source to an unlicensed destination. The relays harvest energy in signals of the unlicensed source and the licensed transmitter. Then, they spend the harvested energy for their relaying operation. Conditioned on the licensed outage restriction, the peak transmission power restriction, Rayleigh fading, and the licensed interference, the current paper proposes an exact closed‐form formula of the secrecy outage probability to quickly evaluate the secrecy performance of the proposed relay selection method in cognitive radio networks with energy harvesting. The proposed formula is corroborated by computer simulations. Several results illustrate the effectiveness of the relay selection in securing information transmission. Additionally, the security capability is saturated at large peak transmission powers or large preset outage probabilities of licensed users. Furthermore, the security capability depends on many specifications among which the power splitting ratio, the relays’ positions, and the time switching ratio can be optimally selected to obtain the best security performance.

Predefined-time vector-polynomial-based synchronization among a group of chaotic systems and its application in secure information transmission

<abstract><p>This article aims to improve the security and timeliness of chaotic synchronization scheme in chaotic secure information transmission. Firstly, a novel nonlinear synchronization scheme among multiple chaotic systems is defined based on vector polynomial to improve the complexity of the carrier signal, and then to enhance the attack resistance of the communication scheme. Secondly, a more flexible and accurate synchronization control technology is proposed so that the above vector-polynomial-based chaotic synchronization can be realized within a time that is predefined as a tunable control parameter. Subsequently, the theoretical derivation is carried out to prove the synchronization time in the above-mentioned synchronization control scheme can be set independently without being affected by the initial conditions or other control parameters. Finally, several simulation experiments on secure information transmission are presented to verify the efficiency and superiority of the designed chaotic synchronization scheme and synchronization control technology.</p></abstract>

Throughput Enhancement for the Joint Radar-Communication Systems Based on Cognitive Closed-Loop Design

The majority of the current dual function radar-communication (DFRC) systems are producing only an angle-dependent transmit beampattern (BP) and imposing a constraint for the communication receiver to be present within the sidelobe (SL) directions to decode the transmitted information. In this paper, an efficient angle-range dependent DFRC system is proposed using frequency diverse array (FDA)-multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration. We developed a closed-loop design that improves the tracking task of the system and permits a cognitive selection for an optimum signaling strategy towards the intended communication receiver during each scan. We used two information embedding schemes, a proposed amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) and phase-shift keying (PSK), that utilize either the magnitude ratios and/or phase shifts between the radar waveform pairs towards the communication direction. Hence, the communication link is maintained and the system throughput is enhanced. The simulation results verify that the communication performance is enhanced in terms of low symbol error rate (SER), secure information transmission, and increased throughput, while for radar applications the performance is improved in terms of target detection and parameter estimation. It also showed that the proposed symbol mapping APSK scheme provides a high data rate transmission compared to the existing SL-based information embedding schemes while preserving a low bit error rate (BER). Besides, the Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLB) for range and angle estimation and the signal-to-interference-noise ratio (SINR) for the proposed DFRC system are analyzed.
