Abstract Dry matter (DM) available before, during, and after grazing from spring-sown Lupinus angustifolius cv. Uniharvest sown at 60 and 100 plants/m2 (600 000 and 1 000 000 plants/ha) was measured at four different stages of growth. Maximum DM of 9 500 to 10 000 kg/ha was obtained from plants grazed at the green pod stage. There was no significant difference in yield between plants sown at 60 or 100 plants/m2 at this stage or at secondary flowering. A difference in yield between plant populations was only observed at the preflowering and primary flowering stages.
