How research contributions of professor Jiju Antony have influenced the field of quality management: an appraisal and critique

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to apply bibliometric techniques to critically examine the contributions of Professor (Dr) Jiju Antony in the domain of quality management research over a period close to 30 years (i.e. 1995 to 2023).Design/methodology/approachThe study incorporates a bibliometric analysis approach using VoSviewer software package to critically examine the contributions and trends in publications on Scopus indexed publications of Antony, followed by an industry wide evaluation of contributions made. Thematic analysis of the bibliographic data was imported in comma-separated values (CSV) format by selecting Antony (last name) and Jiju (first name) in the author search tab in Scopus. The search was made on September 09, 2023 and bibliographic records of 429 documents were considered for the analysis. The analysis was carried out in terms of most frequent keywords used, sources with most frequent publications, thematic analysis of most cited works and global collaborations.FindingsAntony has focused his research interest largely in the domain of quality management, publishing his research in top rated journals in the domain with a broad network of international collaborators. Antony has received 18,802 and 40,947 citations in Scopus and Google Scholar, respectively. This signifies the impact that Antony has created through his research publications. His major contributions are on the topics of six sigma, lean six sigma, continuous improvement, critical success factors and quality management practice implementations in various organizations. Diverse methodologies both qualitative and quantitative were utilized to conduct his research. However, his body of work is not without criticism. Such criticism includes the limited scope of work, with narrow focus on ISO 9001 and QMS standards, Total Quality Management (TQM). Critique also highlights the necessity for more depth, following insufficient exploration of distinctions between TQM and operational excellence (OPEX) methodologies like lean, six sigma, kaizen and agile. Antony’s work has yet to consider a diverse range of industry sectors, in terms of implementation of quality management principles, geographical location, the impact of national culture on corporate performance and explore data quality influence on decision-making. Notably, there is clear opportunity to consider the service sector in future research.Originality/valueTo best of the authors’ knowledge, there are few previous studies conducted using bibliometric analysis for analyzing the work of an individual. Therefore, the present study aims to set a trend whereby bibliometric analysis can be used to recognize and critically asses the contributions of other researchers in their respective domains.

Alternative metrics and social impact of research about Social Sciences in Cuba

Abstract The evaluation of the social impact of research is a critical concern for both the scientific and social communities. This study aims to describe the social impact of scientific research outcomes in the field of Social Sciences in Cuba. Five dimensions of analysis and 16 alternative indicators were utilized, employing altmetric tools and data sources. The data for the study were collected from the Scopus database and the altmetric data provider PlumX Metrics. Statistical techniques for trend and correlation analysis between indicators, along with data visualization, were used for the analysis. The results indicate that the most prominent indicators were citations in Scopus and CrossRef, Views Count, Full Text Views, Abstract Views, Readers in Mendeley Captures, and social network metrics from Facebook and Twitter. The research findings with the greatest social impact pertained to climate change and environmental policy, scientific production related to COVID-19, higher education, sustainable development, gender studies, legislation, and tourism.

Global Epidemiology and Seasonality of Human Seasonal Coronaviruses: A Systematic Review.

We characterized the global epidemiology and seasonality of human coronaviruses (HCoVs) OC43, NL63, 229E, and HKU1. In this systematic review, we searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, SCOPUS, CINAHL, and backward citations for studies published until 1 September 2023. We included studies with ≥12 months of consecutive data and tested for ≥1 HCoV species. Case reports, review articles, animal studies, studies focusing on SARS-CoV-1, SARS-CoV-2, and/or Middle East respiratory syndrome, and those including <100 cases were excluded. Study quality and risk of bias were assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist tools. We reported the prevalence of all HCoVs and individual species. Seasonality was reported for studies that included ≥100 HCoVs annually. This study is registered with PROSPERO, CRD42022330902. A total of 201 studies (1 819 320 samples) from 68 countries were included. A high proportion were from China (19.4%; n = 39), whereas the Southern Hemisphere was underrepresented. Most were case series (77.1%, n = 155) with samples from secondary care (74.1%, n = 149). Seventeen (8.5%) studies included asymptomatic controls, whereas 76 (37.8%) reported results for all 4 HCoV species. Overall, OC43 was the most prevalent HCoV. Median test positivity of OC43 and NL63 was higher in children, and 229E and HKU1 in adults. Among 18 studies that described seasonality (17 from the Northern Hemisphere), circulation of all HCoVs mostly peaked during cold months. In our comprehensive review, few studies reported the prevalence of individual HCoVs or seasonality. Further research on the burden and circulation of HCoVs is needed, particularly from Africa, South Asia, and Central/South America.

Developing Methods for Assessing the Social Impact of Scientific Study

In many countries, there is a need to introduce new or improved existing methods for evaluating the social impact of scientific study on the environment of scientific institutions and universities. It is necessary to apply complex methodological solutions that should consider using research results by the non-academic world. The results of this evaluation are often crucial for building a university's position in national and international rankings. They may influence decisions regarding the level of financing of scientific institutions and the distribution of public funds for subsidies, scholarships, and financial aid concerning research grants. The paper aims to review existing methodological solutions and identify key trends in developing methods for assessing the social impact of scientific study. In this case, the scope of the research was limited to evaluating the study conducted within the field of social sciences. Running such assessments is more complicated than for the technical domain, for which more easily measurable bibliometric indicators and patents are available. The research used quantitative bibliometric analyzes based on the Scopus citation database, supported by bibliometric network analyzes. The results enable the identification of crucial methodological trends, potential opportunities and directions for developing research conducive to improving methods for assessing the social impact of study. Providing an overview of existing knowledge in this field creates a foundation for continuing further research.

Ten years of sustainable energy planning and management

With this volume 40 the International Journal of Sustainable Energy Planning and Management can celebrate its 10 years anniversary. In this editorial we take a closer look at the journals impact over its first 10 years of existence and highlight the articles that have made the largest impacts in the scientific community from a citation perspective. The topic of the journal – sustainable energy planning and management – has not decreased in importance over the first ten years of the journal’s existence – and fortunately the results published in the journal has garnered interest and the impact of the journal has significantly increased. In terms of citation, the journals 275 published articles, has received 1484 citations as per March 2024 and nine articles have 40 or more citations in Scopus. CiteScore ranks the journal in the top 10% out of 700+ journals within the topic of Geography, Planning and Development.

Top 25 Most-Cited Articles on Robotic-Assisted Lumbar Spine Surgery.

Robot-guided lumbar spine surgery has evolved rapidly with evidence to support its utility and feasibility compared with conventional freehand and fluoroscopy-based techniques. The objective of this study was to assess trends among the top 25 most-cited articles pertaining to robotic-guided lumbar spine surgery. An "advanced document search" using Boolean search operator terms was performed on 16 November 2022 through the Web of Science and SCOPUS citation databases to determine the top 25 most-referenced articles on robotic lumbar spine surgery. The articles were compiled into a directory and hierarchically organized based on the total number of citations. Cumulatively, the "Top 25" list for robot-assisted navigation in lumbar spine surgery received 2240 citations, averaging 97.39 citations annually. The number of citations ranged from 221 to 40 for the 25 most-cited articles. The most-cited study, by Kantelhardt et al, received 221 citations, averaging 18 citations per year. As utilization of robot-guided modalities in lumbar spine surgery increases, this review highlights the most impactful studies to support its efficacy and implementation. Practical considerations such as cost-effectiveness, however, need to be better defined through further longitudinal studies that evaluate patient-reported outcomes and cost-utility. Through an overview of the top 25 most-cited articles, the present review highlights the rising prominence and technical efficacy of robotic-guided systems within lumbar spine surgery, with consideration to pragmatic limitations and need for additional data to facilitate cost-effective applications.

Industry Involvement and Transparency in the Most Cited Clinical Trials, 2019-2022

Industry involvement is prominent in influential clinical trials, and commitments to transparency of trials are highly variable. To evaluate the modes of industry involvement and the transparency features of the most cited recent clinical trials across medicine. This cross-sectional study was a meta-research assessment including randomized and nonrandomized clinical trials published in 2019 or later. The 600 trials of any type of disease or setting that attracted highest number of citations in Scopus as of December 2022 were selected for analysis. Data were analyzed from March to September 2023. Outcomes of interest were industry involvement (sponsor, author, and analyst) and transparency (protocols, statistical analysis plans, and data and code availability). Among 600 trials with a median (IQR) sample size of 415 (124-1046) participants assessed, 409 (68.2%) had industry funding and 303 (50.5%) were exclusively industry-funded. A total of 354 trials (59.0%) had industry authors, with 280 trials (46.6%) involving industry analysts and 125 trials (20.8%) analyzed exclusively by industry analysts. Among industry-funded trials, 364 (89.0%) reached conclusions favoring the sponsor. Most trials (478 trials [79.7%]) provided a data availability statement, and most indicated intention to share the data, but only 16 trials (2.7%) had data already readily available to others. More than three-quarters of trials had full protocols (482 trials [82.0%]) or statistical analysis plans (446 trials [74.3%]) available, but only 27 trials (4.5%) explicitly mentioned sharing analysis code (8 readily available; 19 on request). Randomized trials were more likely than nonrandomized studies to involve only industry analysts (107 trials [22.9%] vs 18 trials [13.6%]; P = .02) and to have full protocols (405 studies [86.5%] vs 87 studies [65.9%]; P < .001) and statistical analysis plans (373 studies [79.7%] vs 73 studies [55.3%]; P < .001) available. Almost all nonrandomized industry-funded studies (90 of 92 studies [97.8%]) favored the sponsor. Among industry-funded trials, exclusive industry funding (odds ratio, 2.9; 95% CI, 1.5-5.4) and industry-affiliated authors (odds ratio, 2.9; 95% CI, 1.5-5.6) were associated with favorable conclusions for the sponsor. This cross-sectional study illustrates how industry involvement in the most influential clinical trials was prominent not only for funding, but also authorship and provision of analysts and was associated with conclusions favoring the sponsor. While most influential trials reported that they planned to share data and make both protocols and statistical analysis plans available, raw data and code were rarely readily available.

Abstract 267: A Bibliometric Analysis of Tenecteplase Research Utilizing a Commonly Used Citation Index

Introduction Tenecteplase is increasingly being used as a first‐line treatment for acute ischemic stroke after several randomized studies demonstrated its safety and efficacy, resulting in a massive increase in the number of published studies on this topic. Our aim was to investigate the most impactful authors and relevant journals that have been instrumental in validating this treatment, in hopes of identifying objective research trends that may assist scientists, health organizations, and funding agencies to collaborate and plan future avenues of research. Methods Using the search terms “Tenecteplase” and “Tenecteplase” AND “Stroke,” 2,683 and 1,150 references were queried, respectively, using the Abstract 20and citation database, Scopus. Scopus Citation Analysis was used to categorize the countries and authors who produced the most research. Metadata was retrieved and transferred to bibliographic visualization software, VOSviewer, for co‐authorship and co‐occurrence analyses to identify trends in tenecteplase research. Results Data visualization software identified three tenecteplase research clusters – myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, and acute ischemic stroke. Our bibliographic analysis graphically identified that ischemic stroke currently leads both myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolism in annual publications pertaining to tenecteplase therapy, and further pinpointed perfusion imaging and wake‐up strokes as the most relevant areas of study. The United States led all countries in tenecteplase publications, including exclusively stroke studies. The European Heart Journal led all journals in overall publications, while Stroke led all journals in stroke‐related studies. Conclusion Through the use of bibliographic analysis and data visualization, we identified major articles and journals that reflected and shaped the current landscape of tenecteplase; recognized authors who engaged in tenecteplase research as it progressed from cardiopulmonary disease to stroke; and postulated future avenues of research.

Correlation of Social Media Metrics and Citations: A Case of Physical Review Letters

Scholarly literature is increasingly shared and discussed through the social web by researchers and academicians. The objective of the study is to investigate and measure the relationship of the citations with Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) for the selected articles in the physical review letter journal. Data extracted from Altmetric.com, Google Metrics, and from PlumXmetrics. Spearman correlation method was used to find the correlation between the Dimension and Scopus citations with AAS for selected articles, results show that the “p-value” stood as .009 and .002 which comes less than the significant level shows that high cited papers have a high AAS and the value of r stood as .772 and .851 which shows a high positive correlation between citations and AAS. US and Japan hold the top position countries with 816 and 326 tweets respectively. Mendeley and Twitter are contributing more to altmetrics scores. It is suggested that the Indian research community should also look forward to utilizing the social media platforms effectively to attract more audiences.

A Review of Academic Research on Regional Entrepreneurship: A Bibliometric Analysis

Introduction. Prior studies have connected entrepreneurship to the economic growth of regions. This fact has led to an increase in academic interest on regional entrepreneurship in Russia and around the world. However, these studies are highly diverse in their research scope, goals, methodologies and results. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to provide some coherence and synthesis to academic research on regional entrepreneurship in Russia. Materials and Methods. Using a bibliometric method of analysis, this research presents an empirical review of academic studies on entrepreneurship in Russian regions. To maintain a quality threshold, our research focus was limited to studies indexed in the Scopus citation database. We analysed 361 articles from 2006 to 2022. The research includes a thorough performance analysis and a scientific mapping of the field. Results. Our results show that the main thematic clusters include entrepreneurship, innovation system, government support, knowledge economy and competitiveness, while emerging themes include pandemic, digitalisation, higher education and investment attractiveness, among others. Also, we identified a number of research gaps, particularly in the sociological research of entrepreneurs, and propose suggestions for future research. Discussion and Conclusion. This article provides an important resource for scholars interested in the study of regional entrepreneurship in Russia and around the world.

Mapping of the selected literature on robotic technology applications in libraries based on Scopus database: a subjective computational review

PurposeAdopting and implementing robotic technology applications in the library is a significant technological up-gradation today. The purpose of this study was to evaluate selected literature focused mainly on robotics technology applications in the field of libraries and to assess the online social attention to research publications.Design/methodology/approachThe study employed Scientometric and altmetric tools to evaluate the research publications. The bibliographic data of research publications were downloaded from Scopus database and scrutinized one by one and 71 articles were selected which mainly focused on robotic technology in libraries. Altmetric data were collected from the Dimensions.ai database. The analysis was performed using MS Excel, Tableau, Biblioshiny, VOSviewer and SPSS software.FindingsResearch on robotic technology in the field of libraries has been experiencing a gradual increase, marked by an annual growth rate of 12.93%. The United States has prominently led the way as the most active participant and collaborator in this advancement. Among the various journals, Library Hi Tech has notably stood out as a significant contributor to this field. However, the research articles have garnered limited social attention and impact. Furthermore, the patterns of authorship collaboration have demonstrated relatively modest levels within the field, and a weak correlation has been observed between the social attention received and the Scopus citation metrics of the publications.Practical implicationsThe research needs to be disseminated more through various social media platforms to increase its visibility. Sharing research information through social media can bridge the gap between academia and society. The findings of this study can serve as a valuable reference for researchers and policymakers.Originality/valueThis study presents a Scientometric analysis of the selected published literature on robotics technology applications in the field of libraries, highlighting the progress and development of worldwide research in this area.

Sports Medicine: Scientometric of 10 Years of Global Scientific Productions.

Sport Medicine maintains an active lifestyle and reduces or inhibits countless age-related changes in physical and physiological function by substituting sports methods for people. Improving the scientific situation in sports medicine over time will lead to progress in the field of prevention and reduction of mortality. This study aimed to analyze sports medicine research in the world in terms of scientometric indicators using the Scopus database. This is a bibilometric study. The study population consisted of all articles indexed in the Scopus citation database in the field of sports medicine, registered by researchers from 2011 to 2020. They used SciVal analytical tool as a bibliometric tool that allows the analysis of publications in various parameters, and VOSviewer and Excel software as drawing all citation maps. The highest increase in scientific production of sports medicine was in 2015. Overall, 1,695 articles were published, which received an average of 13 citations per article. The highest rate of scientific production is related to the United States with 41%, followed by the United Kingdom with 16% and Australia with 9%, with a significant difference in the second and third which indicates the high quality and impact of this group of studies. The British Journal of Sports Medicine has contributed the most to the publication of highly cited articles. The most commonly used terms include "Head Impact", "Athletes", and "Sport Injury". Considering the importance of sports medicine in the prevention, control and treatment of many diseases, as well as the growth of the elderly population, it is necessary to develop research in this area. By identifying the features of highly cited articles in this field, a clear view of the top authors and publications and widely used topics was provided.

Founded in 2017, the NAJFNR, under the leadership of the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Section-editors, has achieved a significant advance with 17 issues, two special issues, conference abstract books, 189 published articles from 48 countries, 46 citations in Scopus and 195 in Google Scholar, and obtained two stars from Journal Publishing Practices and Standards (JPPS) of Journals Online project. The new North African Journal of Food and Nutrition Research Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Mustapha Diaf and the new Deputy Executive Editors-in-Chief Prof. Hajer Debbabi, Prof. Farid Dahmoune, Dr. Nada Benajiba, and Dr. Basil H. Aoul-Enein share their introductory message as they start their new editorial terms on 1 August 2023.

United Arab Emirates (UAE): A scientometric assessment of Covid-19 publications

Objective. The United Arab Emirates continues to undertake and sustain its research pursuits in Covid-19 as a matter of strategy, considering that the country is facing unique challenges in this area of research. The paper seeks to analyze UAE publications on Covid-19 research and describe its research trends.&#x0D; Methodology. A literature search on UAE publications on Covid-19 was conducted using the Scopus database, limiting the search period for the study to December 1, 2019 - April 7, 2023. Data were retrieved and downloaded for analysis using Microsoft Excel and Scopus Citation Overview tools. VOSviewer software was used to provide creative visualization of the relationships across researchers, institutions, and journals that reported UAE publications.&#x0D; Results: 48,1461 publications were published on Covid-19 from December 2019 till April 7, 2023. Of these, the UAE contributed 3402 publications, constituting 0.71% share of global output and registered 14.63 average citations per article (CPP). The 732 (21.52%) UAE papers had received external funding support, and another 2493 (73.28%) papers appeared through international collaboration with countries such as the U.K (n=556), USA (n=553), India (n=448), and Saudi Arabia (n=399). The leading UAE participating organizations in Covid-19 research include the University of Sharjah (n=619), United Arab Emirates University (n=520), and Zayed University (n=239). The organizations which made the most citation impact in terms of CPP and RCI include American University in the Emirates (40.54 and 3.34), Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medical &amp; Health Sciences (34.4 and 2.83), and Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital (31.88 and 2.62). The leading UAE participating authors in Covid-19 research include R. Halwani (n=83), Z. Umar (n=38), and Q. Hamid (n=37). The authors who made the most citation impact in terms of CPP and RCI include R. Halwani (52.61 and 4.33), H.Q. Al Shamsi (30.24 and 2.49) and A.S. Al Dhaheri (28.81 and 2.37). The most utilized channels of research communication in Covid-19 research include PLOS One (n=73), International Journal of Environmental Research &amp; Public Health (n=46), and Scientific Reports (n=36). The journals which received the most citations for UAE papers on Covid-19 research include the International Journal of Infectious Diseases (30.56 CPP), IEEE Access (20.49 CPP), and Frontiers in Psychiatry (17.40 CPP).&#x0D; Conclusion: The study presents the current status of research and the publication trends in Covid-19 in the UAE, particularly its most used sources for research publication, most productive and most cited organizations and authors, and its most sought-after topics in Covid-19 research. Strengthening research collaboration between UAE and the Middle East countries and with the developed world countries will further help UAE improve the quality and quantity of its research on Covid-19 and help implement its Covid-19 policies in the region.

The constant efforts of Dr. Muñoz, together with the editorial team, the authors, the reviewers, and the interest of the readers, have allowed us to improve the impact of Hábitat Sustentable. This year 2023, we are pleased to announce that it has entered the third quartile in SJR’s Architecture area (Scimago Journal &amp; Country Rank). Do altmetric scores reflect article quality? Evidence from the UK Research Excellence Framework 2021

AbstractAltmetrics are web‐based quantitative impact or attention indicators for academic articles that have been proposed to supplement citation counts. This article reports the first assessment of the extent to which mature altmetrics from Altmetric.com and Mendeley associate with individual article quality scores. It exploits expert norm‐referenced peer review scores from the UK Research Excellence Framework 2021 for 67,030+ journal articles in all fields 2014–2017/2018, split into 34 broadly field‐based Units of Assessment (UoAs). Altmetrics correlated more strongly with research quality than previously found, although less strongly than raw and field normalized Scopus citation counts. Surprisingly, field normalizing citation counts can reduce their strength as a quality indicator for articles in a single field. For most UoAs, Mendeley reader counts are the best altmetric (e.g., three Spearman correlations with quality scores above 0.5), tweet counts are also a moderate strength indicator in eight UoAs (Spearman correlations with quality scores above 0.3), ahead of news (eight correlations above 0.3, but generally weaker), blogs (five correlations above 0.3), and Facebook (three correlations above 0.3) citations, at least in the United Kingdom. In general, altmetrics are the strongest indicators of research quality in the health and physical sciences and weakest in the arts and humanities.

A holistic approach to augmented reality-related research in tourism: through bibliometric analysis

PurposeWith its potential to significantly improve the tourism sector, augmented reality (AR), an emerging technology, is a growing force in the field. It has attracted significant academic attention and expanded publishing options over the past 20 years. However, so far, no review has provided a comprehensive overview of AR-related research in tourism. This work uses the VOS Viewer and Bibliometrix R-package software to present a bibliometric review of the scientific literature in the area of AR-related tourism research in order to fill this gap.Design/methodology/approachThe theme of AR in tourism was searched in the Scopus database. The original search yielded 327 papers in total, which were then filtered based on the parameters. A total of 190 relevant documents were generated by the refining process. For the publications pertaining to AR in tourism, the most cited papers, prominent authors, productive journals and countries, co-authorship among countries, trending topics, thematic map, co-occurrence analysis of keywords and bibliographic coupling of documents were all looked into.FindingsThis report shows a recent rise in research on AR in the tourism industry. The top 10 studies in the topic had a combined total of 1749 citations, while the authors found three papers with more than 200 Scopus citations. Till the date of extraction, 555 writers have contributed to the field of AR in tourism, with Tom Dieck M.C., Chung N. and Jung T. receiving the most citations. According to co-authorship analysis, the UK collaborates with other countries the most. Thematic map has thrown insight into the niche themes and emerging themes in the field. Coupling analysis has revealed four major research streams in the field of AR in tourism.Research limitations/implicationsThis study can be considered as a first study to utilize a bibliometric method to address this research gap, identifying the top documents, journals and, most importantly, the future research areas identified through the thematic map analysis of keywords and bibliographic coupling.Practical implicationsHistorical growth within this discipline was made clear by an in-depth analysis of the studied themes in this area. Hence, the discovery of relatively new subjects offers scholars the chance to plan their research in this area and thereby enhance the literature. The study is also beneficial for practitioners in the tourism industry.Originality/valueThis work examined previously published publications on AR in tourism using a bibliometric analytic technique. Additionally, it contributes to the current knowledge accumulation in learning about the applicability of AR in tourism and enlightens tourism scholars on the structure of the field.

The reporting requirements of case reports and adherence of case report reporting guidelines in medical journals: an analysis of the authors’ guide sections

BackgroundOwing to the growth of case reports and changes in the policy of journals in publishing this evidence, the need to standardize them is felt more than before. Therefore, in this study, the authors’ guide of medical journals indexed in the Scopus database that published most of the case reports has been analyzed to identify the reporting requirements and emerging case report types.MethodsA total of 50 journals were selected from the Scopus citation database (the world’s largest knowledge base) that published most of the case reports. These and the authors’ guideline section on the types and requirements of writing case reports were analyzed by inductive content analysis.ResultsMost of the case reports were published in the fields of dermatology and surgery and general medicine. Reporting requirements in author’s guide are grouped in four categories: (1) reasons for publication or content value, (2) emphasis on the patient consent form and confidentiality, (3) emphasizing the constraints on the word count and limitation, and (4) recommendation for structure and reporting elements. In terms of adherence to the reporting guidelines, 76% of journals do not adhere to any reporting guideline. In addition, 13 types of case reports were identified in these journals, among which traditional case reports, clinical image, letters, and case series were the most widely used formats.ConclusionsImproving the publication processes of case reports has been left unattended by international organizations. The policies of journals need to become more integrated, and reporting guidelines should be modified or redeveloped to enhance the quality of publications, cover different reporting requirements, and consequently, benefit from the evidence value available in case reports.
