Awareness and use of electronic resources by research scholars of Karnatak University, Dharwad: A study

Electronic resources have become vital in the 21st century. The paper aims to comprehensively examine the electronic resources used by research scholars of faculty of Social Science, Karnatak University, Dharwad. This paper further emphasizes the awareness level, usage, purposes, frequency, difficulties, benefits, and search techniques used when using electronic resources.A systematic questionnaire was used in the investigation. The questionnaire was issued to 100 researchers from the Faculty of Social Science, Karnatak University, Dharwad.Out of 100, 84 completed responses were received, yielding an overall response rate of 84%. The study indicates that the majority of users are aware of various types of E-resources and that these resources may impact their academic activities at the institution.The study should assist university libraries in better-educating faculty, researchers, and students about e-resources. It will also help them organize more proactive end-user training programs that will raise awareness of using e-resources effectively.

Characterizing full-time, non-tenure-track teaching faculty in biology.

Institutions of higher education play a major role in teaching undergraduate students. Historically, most courses have been taught by tenure-track (TT) faculty who may also be responsible for research or scholarly activities. However, a recent shift from "teaching-intensive" TT faculty to "teaching-only" contingent faculty off the tenure track has highlighted the importance of understanding the experiences of contingent faculty. While there have been an increasing number of studies examining the experiences of part-time contingent faculty, few studies have directly surveyed the increasing number of full-time, non-tenure-track (NTT) teaching faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to capture their experiences, nor are we aware of any study that has examined the roles of NTT teaching faculty within one discipline to examine any potential disciplinary differences that may arise across STEM fields. Here, we focus on the experiences of full-time, non-tenure-track faculty in biology whose primary responsibility is teaching. We conducted a random stratified sampling of institutions using the Carnegie classifications to identify potential full-time NTT teaching faculty at over 10% of all institutions in the United States. Our results from surveying these faculty found both positive and negative themes, including (i) NTT teaching faculty being less diverse than the STEM professoriate at large; (ii) NTT teaching faculty reporting mixed feelings on institutional support, identifying a range of opportunities to better support NTT teaching faculty; (iii) NTT teaching faculty often having limited participation in voting for department and institutional matters and reporting mixed feelings of belonging and value; and (iv) NTT teaching faculty having high amounts of autonomy over their teaching but still struggling in key areas. We end with specific implications and recommendations for our field to better support NTT teaching faculty in biology.

2D-QSAR Study of Fluoroquinolone Derivatives:An Approach to Design Anti-tubercular Agents

QSAR studies were performed on a set of 39 analogs of fluoroquinolone using MDS vlife science QSAR plus module by using. Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Principal Component Regression (PCR) and Partial Least Squares (PLS) Regression methods. Among these, MLR method has shown a very promising result as compared to other two methods and a QSAR model was generated by a training set of 28 molecules with correlation coefficient (r2) of 0.9412, significant cross validated correlation coefficient (q2) of 0.9213 and F test of 38.8480. In the selected descriptors, estate contribution, chi, path cluster and alignment independent descriptors were the most important descriptors in predicting anti-tubercular inhibitory activity.

Investigating Dynamic's Mental Approaches of English Grammar on EFL Learners at the University Level

This study aims to investigate some innovative mental approaches to learning English language grammar on EFL learners that graduation students in the English language department use. The researcher focused on this area because many difficulties and complex items need to be used. This study was carried out in April- 2021 with a random sample of 30 at Al-Baha University in the Faculty of Science and Arts in Almekhwa. A questionnaire was designed and participants chose one appropriate option from the three options: (I use it always, I use it sometimes and I don't use it). Percentage, frequencies, and graphs were used to analyze data collected, and an interview was conducted. The study's main results showed that the participants always use the following mental approaches; '' The students need patience on the teacher's part. – individual study and online class''. Many students need great awareness to use some approaches as staying curious, critical thinking for group discussions, and applying a judicious mix of techniques The study recommended that there are many varieties of mental approaches to enhance English language grammar learning in proper ways of ''ELF learners''.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices on hypertension among the health science faculty and students at the University of Namibia: A cross-sectional study.

Hypertension is a serious health concern, especially in developing countries, and assessing people's knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) is important for its awareness and management. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the KAP on hypertension among students and staff from the Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Faculty of the University of Namibia. A cross-sectional study design was conducted on adult participants who completed the KAP questionnaire while resting, and thereafter their blood pressure (BP) was measured. This study was conducted in September 2023. The sample comprised 99 participants (77 females and 22 males) aged 18 to 64 years. The majority (94%) of the participants had normal BP (≥140/90 mm Hg). The systolic BP of females (113.13 ± 13.70 mm Hg) was significantly lower (P = .011) than that of males (121.64 ± 13 mm Hg); however, there was no significant difference in diastolic BP between the 2 genders (73.58 ± 9.37 for females and 75.95 ± 10.55 for males; P = .311). Approximately 85% of the participants demonstrated a good understanding of the risk factors associated with hypertension. About 91% of the participants believed that hypertension is a serious health problem and were willing to change their daily routine to better manage their hypertension. Only approximately 39% of the participants regularly monitored their BP. Just above 50% of the participants regularly engaged in physical activities and made dietary modifications to maintain a healthy heart. It is important to host regular hypertension campaigns among health science personnel, as this would help refresh and improve their KAP in prevention and management.

Book Vandalism in the Library of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Padjadjaran University

Background of the study: The large number of users who use the library collection makes the library vulnerable to misuse of the collection. One form of threat of misuse of collections faced by libraries is damage caused by vandalism. Method: The study adopted a quantitative Pre-Experiment research approach with One Shot case study data analysis, with data collection techniques including observation and documentation. Purpose: This research investigates a case of vandalism of collection books in the Library of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University. The purpose of this study is to describe the acts of vandalism that occurred. Findings: 200 vandalized books of various types were found. The findings of this study highlighted various forms of vandalism that occurred on the collection books, such as crossing out, giving special colors, drawing, writing, underlining, and giving special marks. Conclusion: Vandalism of books in libraries is a serious problem that limits the library's ability to provide optimal services and disrupts the absorption of information in higher education. Metode: Studi ini mengadopsi pendekatan penelitian Pra Eksperimen kuantitatif dengan analisis data One Shot case study, dengan teknik pengambilan data meliputi observasi dan dokumentasi. Tujuan: Penelitian ini menginvestigasi kasus vandalisme koleksi buku di Perpustakaan Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Padjadjaran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan tindakan vandalisme yang terjadi. Temuan: Ditemukan 200 buku yang telah mengalami vandalisme dengan berbagai jenis tipe. Temuan penelitian ini menyoroti berbagai bentuk vandalisme yang terjadi pada koleksi buku di perpustakaan, seperti mencoret, memberi warna khusus, menggambar, menulisi, menggaris bawahi, dan memberi tanda khusus. Kesimpulan: Tindakan vandalisme terhadap buku di perpustakaan merupakan masalah serius yang membatasi kemampuan perpustakaan dalam menyediakan layanan yang optimal dan mengganggu penyerapan informasi di perguruan tinggi. Synthetic Studies on Bioactive Substances: From Research on Water-soluble Compounds to the Field of Lipophilic Ligands

This is a personal review of my chemistry research on retirement from Teikyo University. Under the guidance of Prof. Masaji Ohno of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, The University of Tokyo, my research career started with the synthesis of water-soluble basic natural compounds, including the first artificial bleomycin showing potent molecular-oxygen activation effects and DNA binding abilities. While studying abroad at Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) under the guidance of Prof. Albert Eschenmoser, I studied the formation of ribose under prebiotic conditions. The condensation reaction between formaldehyde and glycolaldehyde phosphate produced ribose in far greater yield than the formose reaction. In the School of Pharmacy, Showa University, I conducted research in nucleic acid chemistry to synthesize, for example, anomeric spiro-nucleosides using radical chemistry and oligonucleotides that interacted with the κB motif. After moving to Teikyo University in 1999, I engaged in studies on the synthesis of vitamin D derivatives, included in fat-soluble vitamins, with selective biological activities without calcemic side-effects, and discovered, for example, 2α-(3-hydroxypropyl)-19-nor-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (MART-10), which exhibits potent anticancer activity in vivo, 2α-[2-(tetrazol-2-yl)ethyl]-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (AH-1), which shows greater bone-forming effects than natural active vitamin D3 in vivo, and the A-ring-converted vitamin D derivative KK-052, which is an in vivo selective inhibitor of sterol regulatory-element binding protein (SREBP), a master transcription factor of lipogenesis, independent of the vitamin D canonical activity through a vitamin D receptor.

Preface

The fourth International Physics Conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina (PHYCONBA2024) was held on 26-27 September 2024 at the premises of the Faculty of Science in Sarajevo. The conference is a biennial scientific meeting organised by the Physical Society in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo. The inaugural International Physics Conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in October 2018, with a considerable number of participants in attendance. In 2020, the event was held in a reduced hybrid format due to the global pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In 2022, the number of participants returned to the level observed prior to the pandemic. The principal objective of the event is to facilitate interaction and collaboration among physicists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, neighbouring countries, and the scientific diaspora. This will be achieved through the exchange of information, the presentation of recent research findings, and the establishment of collaborative relationships. The conference will address all areas of research within the field of physics, as well as related subjects. The two-day programme comprises three plenary talks, 9 oral presentations and 19 poster presentations. On the second day of the programme, a presentation was given on the major modernisation project that took place between 2020 and 2022 at the Department of Physics. Furthermore, attendees were afforded the chance to view the recently refurbished laboratories. On the second day of the event, a half-day excursion to the nearby Trebević mountain was offered as an official part of the programme. This enabled participants to enjoy local attractions and participate in informal discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. It is the sincere hope of the Organising Committee that the participants derived considerable benefit from their stay in Sarajevo and that this event will prove to be an effective forum for the exchange of ideas and the establishment of new collaborations. In my capacity as Guest Editor of this special issue, I would like to extend my gratitude to all those who participated in the Fourth International Physics Conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I would also like to acknowledge the contributions of the Organising and Scientific Committee, as well as the student volunteers, whose efforts were instrumental in the successful organisation of this event. Finally, I would like to recognise the possibility of partial financial support from the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Technostress levels of science field faculty members in the Kyrgyz Republic

The purpose of this study was to examine the technostress levels of science field faculty members in the Kyrgyz Republic. The relational survey model was used to investigate whether there was a significant difference and a relationship between demographic variables such as gender, age, field of science, seniority, technological education level, and availability of a personal computer in terms of technostress and its sub-dimensions. The sample of the study consisted of 274 science faculty members, with 156 females and 118 males working at different universities in the Kyrgyz Republic. “Personal Data Form” and “Defining Teachers’ Technostress Levels Scale” were used as data collection tools in the study. The results showed that the general technostress levels of the participants were at a medium level. General technostress levels and technostress sub-dimensions scores of science faculty members did not differ by their genders, ages, seniorities, technology educations, and availability of their computers. There was a low level of positive correlation between age and the scores of the occupational and personal sub-dimensions of technostress; It was determined that there was a low-level, positive, statistically significant relationship between the seniority variable and the personal-oriented sub-dimension. It can be concluded that as the year of seniority progresses, academicians' technostress scores also increase. These findings reveal that seniority has certain effects on the technostress levels of academicians, but these effects vary based on sub-dimensions.

Development of A Science Module Based on Local Culture of NTT to Enhance Critical Thinking Skills of Prospective Elementary School Teachers

The research aims to develop a Science Module based on Local Culture to enhance the Critical Thinking Skills of prospective Elementary School Teachers. This type of research is development research, using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The subjects of this study were 30 fifth-semester students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Program, who acted as prospective teachers and used the Local Culture-Based Science Module in their coursework as part of a trial of the module's use. The data collection methods employed were questionnaires to gather information on validation, attractiveness, and practicality, as well as tests to assess effectiveness. The data analysis technique used was descriptive quantitative analysis, where total scores and values were calculated and then averaged to be interpreted according to predetermined criteria. The results obtained from the research process showed that the Local Culture-Based Science Module was valid with a validity score of 3.85, attractive with a score of 82.2, practical with a score of 80, and effective with an average final test score of 83.06. In conclusion, the Local Culture-Based Science Module is valid, attractive, practical, and effective for use as a teaching guide for prospective elementary school teachers

The Effect of the Application of the Problem-Based Learning Model on Communication Problem Solving Ability in Students of the Communication Study Program FISIP UNAS Jakarta

Problem-based Learning (PBL) is a learning method where students are faced with problems that exist in society in real life, to then be used as a trigger in learning. PBL is seen as more effective than the conventional curriculum, which only relies on lectures and practicums. Learning activities in PBL include expert lectures, discussions in small groups, practicum in the laboratory, and clinical skills practicum. Through this activity, it is hoped that students can achieve satisfactory learning achievements, considering that the concept carried by this system is so ideal. Problembased learningg is learning with an approach oriented to a constructivistic view that contains contextual characteristics, collaborative, metacognitive thinking, and facilitates problem solving. Students are able to learn meaningfully that can develop higher-order thinking skills through problem solving. Through this learning, it is hoped that it can increase understanding of meaning, increase independence, increase the development of higher-level thinking skills, increase motivation, facilitate relationships between students and improve skills in building teamwork when solving problems and finding solutions. The design of this study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method through the distribution of questionnaires to communication students of the Communication Psychology course. The results of the research can be used as reference to universities, especially the Communication Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UNAS Jakarta, to implement The problem-based learning model plays an active role in the learning process, especially in this independent curriculum.

Experiential Learning in the “First in the Nation” Primary State: Efficacy and Impact of a Political Science Educational Experience

In January 2016 and 2020, political science faculty and students traveled to New Hampshire for the run-up to the state’s “first in the nation” presidential primaries. For ten days, students met with presidential primary candidates, and discussed the context and content of the election with state officials, campaign operatives, and media professionals. These first-hand experiences, accompanied by faculty lectures and class discussions, helped students gain a better understanding of presidential primary campaigns as part of an experiential learning course on political campaigns and communication. Utilizing Kolb’s experiential learning theory, our work explores how students were impacted by the unique experiential learning experience. Specifically, we hypothesize that this course can lead students to become better citizens who think and act in ways that are normatively desirable in a democracy. Data supports our hypotheses; when compared to students not enrolled in an experiential learning version of the course, our experiential learning subjects were more likely to be politically engaged, to have trust in individual politicians, to be more efficacious about citizens’ ability to impact politics, and to be more politically ambitious.

Effect of Nitrogen Scheduling on Growth and Yield of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

A field experiment was conducted at experimental farm, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Mewar University Gangrar, Chittorgarh (Rajasthan) during Rabi season of 2023-24 to effect of nitrogen scheduling on growth and yield of wheat, variety “3077‟ was used in this study. The required quantities of fertilizers as per treatments were applied. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications consisting of twelve treatments. The data recorded maximum growth attributes like, plant height (94.45 cm), dry matter accum8lation per m row length (248.78 g) and yield attributes such as number of effective tillers per m row length (65.40), number of grains per spike (82.24), grain yield (5230 kg/ha), stover yield (6634 kg/ha), biological yield (11864 kg/ha) and maximum net return (156075 Rs/ha) was recorded with T12 : 1/3 at basal +1/3 at CRI (21-25 DAS) + 1/3 at Jointing stage (65-70 DAS) + 2.0% urea + 0.5% ZnSO4 spray at flag leaf stage (80-90 DAS). Therefore, it may be concluded that application of T12: 1/3 at basal +1/3 at CRI (21-25 DAS) + 1/3 at Jointing stage (65-70 DAS) + 2.0% urea +0.5% ZnSO4 spray at flag leaf stage (80-90 DAS) was the most suitable treatment for obtaining higher seed yield (5230 kg/ha), gross and net returns (Rs 156075.00/ha and 113116.00/ha) and B: C ratio (2.63) in wheat. However, these results are only indicative and require further experimentation to arrive at more consistent and final conclusion.

Effect of Sulphur and Zinc on Growth and Yield of Indian Mustard [Brassica juncea (L.)

A field experiment was conducted at experimental farm, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Mewar University Gangrar, Chittorgarh (Rajasthan) during Rabi season of 2023-24 to effect of Sulphur and Zinc on growth and yield of mustard (Brassica juncea L.), variety “Bio-902‟ was used in this study. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with three replications. Maximum growth attributes such as, plant height (146.30 and 143.90 cm), number of branches per plant (8.28 and 8.05) and dry matter accumulation (326.17 and 324.32 g/plant) and yield attributes such as number of siliqua per plant (285.20 and 282.49), number of seed per siliqua (13.20 and 13.10), seed yield (20.40 and 20.18 q/ha), stover yield (69.84 and 69.58 q/ha) and maximum net return (66449.75 and 66557.00 Rs/ha) was recorded with combine application of 60 kg/ha Sulphur and 7.5 kg/ha Zn. Therefore, it was concluded that application of 40 kg Sulphur and 7.5kg zinc ha-1 found suitable to produce good yield of Indian mustard. Maximum values of growth parameters and yield also recorded with application 60 Sulphur kg ha-1 and 7.5 zinc kg ha-1.

Effect of Phosphorus and Zinc Application on Growth and Yield of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

A field experiment was conducted at experimental farm, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Mewar University Gangrar, Chittorgarh (Rajasthan) during Rabi season of 2023-24 to effect of phosphorus and zinc application on growth and yield of chick pea, variety “RSG-888‟ was used in this study. The required quantities of fertilizers as per treatments were applied. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications consisting of nine treatments. The data recorded maximum growth attributes like, plant height (64.46 cm), number of branches per plant (10.01) and yield attributes such as number of pods per plant (29.15), number of seed per pod (1.92), seed yield (1855 kg/ha), stover yield (3292 kg/ha), biological yield (5147 kg/ha) and maximum net return (89483 Rs/ha) was recorded with application of 80 kg phosphorus ha-1. Therefore, it was concluded that application of that phos4phorus and zinc application brought an additive effect in increasing growth, yield, quality and economics of chickpea crop. The highest seed yield (1855 kg ha-1) was obtained under the combined application of 80 kg phosphorus ha-1 (T5) but the highest net returns of gross and net returns (124651 ha-1 and 89483 Rs ha-1, respectively) was recorded under the application of 80 kg phosphorus ha-1.

A Growing Willow: The Six Rs Indigenous Research Framework—Stories of the Native American Faculty Journey in STEM*

AbstractNative American faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (NAF‐STEM) disciplines are historically underrepresented. Creating inclusive academia for Indigenous people that typically live and thrive in rural communities requires insights into their personal, relational, and collective experiences. This study was guided by the Six Rs: relationship, respect, responsibility, relevance, representation, and reciprocity, and was informed by Indigenous Research Methodologies. Twelve NAF‐STEM from tribal colleges and non‐tribal institutions were asked to share their perspectives and experiences in seven Research Circles. NAF‐STEM joined sequential hybrid workshops over seven weeks on how to conduct qualitative data analysis. Authors conducted analysis on the transcripts of Research Circles for themes associated with the professional satisfaction and success of NAF‐STEM. Results of the study identified the importance of holistic support systems that remain mindful of both the opportunities and challenges facing NAF‐STEM and emphasize the significance of balancing the need for respectful relationships, adequate representation, shared responsibility, relevance of diversity, and reciprocity in STEM. Through implementation of the Six Rs throughout the research process, the study identified successes, support systems, and challenges of NAF‐STEM at both tribal and non‐tribal colleges and universities. These outcomes can inform institutions to create an equitable and inclusive environment for NAF‐STEM.

Pendalaman Konsep Dalam Rangka Persiapan Kompetisi Bidang Statistika Untuk Siswa Sma Negeri 2 Seram Bagian Barat

Statistics taught at high school level consists of several basic concepts, namely descriptive statistics, combinatorics, and probability theory. Competitions can be an effective tool to encourage students to hone their skills and assess the extent to which the concepts they have learned are applied well. However, until now there is still a gap in student achievement in competitions between Maluku Provinces, due to gaps in students' understanding of basic concepts, especially in the field of Statistics. SMA Negeri 2 Seram Barat, as one of the leading schools in the region, actually has the potential to encourage its students to excel in competitions, but is hampered by an understanding of basic concepts, especially in the field of Statistics, which is still not optimal. The Mathematics Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Pattimura University took the initiative to provide deeper concepts to students at SMA Negeri 2 West Seram as preparation for facing competitions in the field of statistics, by providing effective explanations of the basic concepts of statistics that have been studied at the high school level, as well as enriching them with practice questions at Olympic level. to encourage students to work on questions. This activity aims to help students at SMA Negeri 2 Seram Barat Part in understanding the basic concepts in the field of Statistics, as well as as an example for SMA Negeri 2 Seram Barat teachers in implementing more effective student development strategies in order to prepare for competitions in the field of Statistics that will be participated in in the future. will come.
