In the preface, Dr. Kientopf states that the purpose of the book is to give an account of the development and methods of providing dental care for school children in Germany. He has been in the school dental service twenty-three of the thirty years of its existence. The first part deals with the history of the development. Starting as an outgrowth of general health examinations, two dental clinics were established in 1902 in Dresden and Darmstadt. By 1929, 822 cities and 118 towns had organized clinics or other means of giving dental care to school children. The second part describes in detail the methods of procedure in carrying out systematic school dental service. The equipment is either stationary, in larger cities, or portable by means of auto vans in less densely populated sections or is conducted in private offices.
