The purpose of this research is to 1) identify the factors influencing the occurrence of bullying behavior on the development of children at the elementary school level 2) identify the forms of bullying behavior on the development of children at the elementary school level 3) understand the impact of bullying behavior on the development of children at the elementary school level. This research is a literature review using a comprehensive strategy method. The subject of this research is journals related to bullying behavior in elementary schools. From this research, it is concluded that bullying behavior has a significant impact on the development of children in elementary school, both psychologically, socially, and academically. Educational institutions need to enhance the prevention of bullying behavior by collaborating with parents, the community, alumni, students, educators, and teachers so that schools can have a safe environment for activities.

‘Healthy Schools’: Socialization of clean and healthy living behaviors in schools is an important initiative in shaping an educational environment that supports student health. The program aims to instill the values of health and hygiene early on, so that students can develop sustainable healthy living habits. In its implementation, the program is faced with various challenges, ranging from collaboration between schools, parents, and communities, to creativity in delivering PHBS messages to students. With strong collaboration, creativity in program implementation, as well as increased awareness and commitment from all relevant parties, it is hoped that the “Healthy School” program can have a positive impact in shaping a healthy, smart and quality young generation. This abstract will discuss the importance of socializing clean and healthy living behaviors in schools and provide practical guidance in running the “Healthy School” program effectively and sustainably.

Bullying behavior in schools remains a significant challenge, impacting students' well-being, social relationships, and academic success. This study explores the effectiveness of a cognitive-behavioral counseling (CBC) approach in reducing bullying behavior through qualitative analysis involving five informants, including school counselors and students. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews and analyzed using NVIVO software to identify key themes. The findings indicate that CBC effectively reduces bullying behavior by improving emotional regulation, fostering empathy, and enhancing conflict resolution skills. However, practical challenges such as time constraints, limited resources, and stigma surrounding counseling were identified. These findings provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers to develop evidence-based strategies for addressing bullying behavior and promoting a safer school environment.

Accidents in Primary Education Schools: Findings from a Nurse-Led Drama-Based Prevention Program.

This study aimed to analyze the causes of school accidents and examine the preliminary findings of a nurse-led, drama-based accident prevention program for children. This was a quasi-experimental study using a pretest-posttest approach with a single group. Data were collected using demographic information, school accident notification form, and Information and Behavior Scales for the Safety Measures of the Students. A total of 407 students formed the sample. A drama-supported education program designed to prevent accidents, developed by nurses working in school health, was implemented based on the most common school accidents. The nurses were actively involved in every program stage, including designing the content, guiding participants, and monitoring progress throughout the intervention. The mean age of the students was 11.2 ± 1.4; 51.8% were girls, and 50.3% were at the primary school. The students' average knowledge scale pretest score was 102.15 ± 21.4736; the behavior scale pretest score was 78.22 ± 11,228; the mean knowledge scale posttest score was 174.75 ± 9.34, behavior scale posttest mean score was 109.62 ± 14.56. This study highlights the crucial role of school nurses in accident prevention and health promotion among students. Based on preliminary findings, drama-based educational programs may improve knowledge and safety behaviors in the school environment.

Mapping social landscapes: Youth NEET risk and social issues in Europe – A systematic literature review

Introduction The 40 million young people’s lack of successful transition from the education system to the labour market across Europe has a major focus. This systematic review of literature document social risk factors associated with NEET status in Europe. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted in four databases on February 21, 2023, with an update on January 15, 2024. Results A total of 98 articles included. Multiple social risk factors were associated with NEET status and divided into three spheres: factors related to the parental influence, the environment circumstance, and the individual factors. Conclusions Lacking a robust sense of self and limited self-efficacy, growing up in unstable home environment, having parents with low educational or labour market attainment are associated with significantly increased risk of NEET. Performing or behaving poorly in school and risk behaviour such as crime and substance use are also correlated with NEET status.

A Comparative Study of Porn Use Behavior in Public and Private Schools, Semarang, Indonesia

Background: Pornography is one of the factors contributing to the decline in productivity among today's youth. Excessive pornography consumption is an issue among today's youngsters. The widespread consumption of pornography can lead to free sex in today's youth, as well as unplanned pregnancies. The purpose of this study is to compare attitudes, perceptions of behavior control, intentions, and actions related to online pornography consumption in adolescents attending public and private schools in Semarang City.Method: This study used a cross-sectional design with 1,844 stratified random samples. Secondary data from the website http://sehariku.dinus.ac.id comprised participants ranging from junior and senior high school (including vocational schools) to university students. The Mann-Whitney non-parametric test was employed to do a bivariate analysis and compare these variables between the two groups.Result: The findings revealed that the majority of respondents were women (55.4%), in early adolescence (50.6%), and lived with their parents (74.2%). Compared to private schools, public schools had better attitudes (mean rank 937.04), perceptions of behavior control (mean rank 950.37), intents (mean rank 932.73), and behavior (mean rank 927.26). However, no significant difference was found between attitude (p-value 0.129), conduct (p-value 0.584), and intention (p-value 0.288). Only the perceived behavior control variable differed substantially across public and private schools (p=0.004). In this regard, private and public schools are primarily comparable. Some private educational foundations must devise an effective method to increase students' perceived behavior control over pornography, at least to compete with public schools.

PEER CONFORMITY: A GATEWAY TO SELF-HARM BEHAVIOR IN SCHOOL STUDENTS?

Self-harm behavior has become a significant mental health problem among adolescents. This study aimed to examine the relationship between peer conformity and self-harm tendencies in school students. A descriptive correlational quantitative research method was used involving 234 tenth and eleventh grade students. Data were collected using a peer conformity scale and a self-harm scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. Non-parametric correlation analysis showed a negative relationship between the two variables. Students who self-harmed less tended to have higher levels of conformity. This finding indicates that peer conformity can be a protective factor against self-harm behavior. However, excessive conformity can also have a negative impact if group norms are unhealthy. Further research is recommended to investigate the influence of peer pressure on self-harm and develop more comprehensive interventions to prevent this behavior.

The School Community can be considered as an agent in a multi-agent system because there is dynamic interaction in a school system. The important thing in a multi-agent system is managing relationships between agents to achieve coordinated behavior by developing knowledge, attitudes and practices, namely the factors that shape environmental behavior. This research extends the framework of partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs) to multi-agent settings by incorporating the idea of ​​agent models into the state space. The results of this research show that (POMDP) ​​is effective for understanding and managing learning behavior in schools.

Non-invasive eye tracking and retinal view reconstruction in free swimming schooling fish

Eye tracking has emerged as a key method for understanding how animals process visual information, identifying crucial elements of perception and attention. Traditional fish eye tracking often alters animal behavior due to invasive techniques, while non-invasive methods are limited to either 2D tracking or restricting animals after training. Our study introduces a non-invasive technique for tracking and reconstructing the retinal view of free-swimming fish in a large 3D arena without behavioral training. Using 3D fish bodymeshes reconstructed by DeepShapeKit, our method integrates multiple camera angles, deep learning for 3D fish posture reconstruction, perspective transformation, and eye tracking. We evaluated our approach using data from two fish swimming in a flow tank, captured from two perpendicular viewpoints, and validated its accuracy using human-labeled and synthesized ground truth data. Our analysis of eye movements and retinal view reconstruction within leader-follower schooling behavior reveals that fish exhibit negatively synchronised eye movements and focus on neighbors centered in the retinal view. These findings are consistent with previous studies on schooling fish, providing a further, indirect, validation of our method. Our approach offers new insights into animal attention in naturalistic settings and potentially has broader implications for studying collective behavior and advancing swarm robotics.

Witnessing and Experiencing Discrimination: A Study in Spanish Adolescents

Objectives: to examine the nature and context of discriminatory experiences among adolescents in Spain. Methods: A mixed study of discourse content analysis in 1000 randomly selected Spanish adolescents aged 12 to 16 years stratified by age, gender and territorial distribution. Data were analyzed to identify perpetrators, actions, and locations of discrimination. Results: Overall, 66% of adolescents reported witnessing or experiencing discrimination, primarily manifested through teasing, insults, and harassment. Peers were identified as the main perpetrators (73.9%), with schools being the primary context (69.4%) where discrimination occurs. Discrimination often lacked clear reasons (27.78%), but ethnicity (23.83%) and physical appearance (22.51%) were the most common factors, followed by gender (5.99%) or academic/ability issues (5.99%) or having an illness or developmental disorder (5.41%). Conclusions: Discrimination among adolescents is frequent, with racism and rejection of minority groups as the main causes. The findings underscore the need for interventions to address discriminatory behaviors in schools and broader society, with implications for adolescent well-being and mental health.

Silent uncrewed surface vehicles reveal the diurnal vertical distribution of lesser sandeel

Abstract Lesser sandeel (Ammodytes marinus) exhibits a peculiar diel vertical migration (DVM) during the feeding season, burying into the seabed at night and emerging during daytime to form schools that feed on zooplankton. Large schools may consist of a pelagic component searching for prey and a bottom component connected by collective bridge-like formations. However, the temporal variation in the schools’ vertical distribution is poorly understood. In this study, 38 and 200 kHz acoustic data recorded with Saildrones were used to examine the schooling dynamics during their main feeding season in May–June. A total of 1497 sandeel schools that were identified by linear discriminant analysis displayed two distinct vertical components throughout the season: one in the pelagic zone and one near the seabed. The pelagic component was distributed deepest at noon and had a similar pattern to zooplankton DVM, suggesting that sandeel followed the vertical distribution of their prey. Their diurnal ascension was greater in both distance and hours in May than June, suggesting a decline in feeding motivation towards the end of the feeding season. These findings were made possible with the long-term monitoring by silent Saildrones, which did not seem to affect the natural behaviour of sandeel schools.

Bullying is a serious problem in the school environment that can have a negative impact on students' mental health and social development. Various efforts are made to prevent this behavior, one of which is by building student awareness through teacher role strategies and school policies. Teachers, especially in the context of Islamic religious education, have a great responsibility in shaping students' character and social behavior through religious values. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of strategies and policies implemented by teachers and schools in building student awareness of bullying and reducing bullying behavior in schools. This study uses a mix methods method with qualitative data obtained through interviews and observations, and quantitative data collected through questionnaires to students. The primary data source is Islamic Religious Education teachers. The results of the study showed that teacher strategies and school policies include socialization about bullying, counseling, religious activities and anti-bullying declarations, significantly increasing students' understanding of the negative impacts of bullying. The data also shows a decrease in bullying cases in schools along with the implementation of these strategies and policies. From this study, Islamic religious education strategies and school policies that are implemented consistently and are effective in building student awareness of bullying and reducing bullying behavior in schools, make the learning environment safer, more harmonious and holistic.

Toxicological Effects of Pendimethalin: Behavioral Changes and LC50 Analysis in Cyprinus carpio

The pre-emergent herbicide pendimethalin is a selective dinitroaniline compound that interferes with the production of microtubules, potentially contaminating groundwater. The current investigation sought to ascertain the acute toxicity levels and behavioral effects of pendimethalin (30% EC) on Cyprinus carpio. Finney's probit bioassay method estimated the lethal toxicity LC50 values for commercial-grade herbicide pendimethalin on C. carpio. This method entails fitting the data collected from experiments to a probit model, which converts the results obtained (such as mortality rates) into a normal distribution scale. It is a useful tool in toxicological research since it enables more precise estimations of the LC50. The lethal toxicity (LC50) values of pendimethalin to C. carpio exposed to 24, 48, 72 and 96-hr were determined to be 2.83µL/L, 2.59µL/L, 2.39µL/L and 2.20µL/L based on the mortality estimations. Pendimethalin-induced behavioral abnormalities in C. carpio were investigated using sublethal concentrations (i.e., 1/15th, 1/10th, and 1/5th of the 96-hour LC50 value) at intervals of 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. Our research observed behavioral shifts such as reduced general activity, reduced foraging behavior, diminished schooling behavior, reduced reflex stimuli, increased opercula movements, irregular movements, mucus secretion, enhanced breathing rates and increased surface air gulping. Our studies showed that pendimethalin can produce both mortality and behavioral alterations in Cyprinus carpio, offering important insights into the pendimethalin fatal and sub-lethal effects. These results highlight how crucial it is to keep an eye on herbicide poisoning in aquatic habitats since even sub-lethal levels can have an effect on fish behavior and the general health of the ecosystem.

Intelligent Car Park Assist Using Fish Swarm Algorithm

In this paper a novel Intelligent Car Park Assist System is presented that uses an Evolutionary Computation method called “Fish Swarm Algorithm” or FSA, inspired from the behavior of schools of fish. The work focuses on the “parallel park” problem where a car needs to park between two already parked cars with a gap between them. The modeled car adopts the Ackermann model for moving, and has to complete the park task in 3 moves. Every move consists of steering the wheel at an angle and moving the car at a specific distance. For finding the optimal car moves to park successfully, a paradigm of the FSA algorithm is used. Simulation results confirm both the modelling soundness and the optimization capabilities of the FSA method.

Sexual decision-making: an exploratory interview study of Cambodian adolescents.

The rate of sexual activity among adolescents is very high, with serious repercussions such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted diseases. Understanding the factors that influence adolescents' engagement in sexual activity is crucial for promoting healthy sexual attitudes and behaviors in schools, sex education programs, communities, and families. This study aimed to examine the factors influencing sexual decision-making among Cambodian adolescents. In accordance with the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research (SRQR), this study used a descriptive qualitative methodology with individual interviews. The participants in the study were 30 Cambodian adolescents (15 males and 15 females) who were all unmarried and sexually active. They were recruited using various methods, including social networking services, and interviewed to explore their sexual decision-making processes. The analysis revealed that the decision-making process was influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors included sexually explicit Internet material and arousal from sexy outfits, while external factors included foreign vs. Khmer culture, the surrounding environment including community, peers, and family, and educational advice received at school. Gender differences were noted in responses to stimuli like sexy outfits and perceptions of cultural norms. This study underscores the complexity of adolescent sexual decision-making in Cambodia. It highlights the need for sex education that is not only comprehensive but also culturally sensitive, addressing the diverse influences on these adolescents. Future research should include a broader demographic group, including rural adolescents, to gain more comprehensive insights. This study uncovers how cultural norms, peers, and the media impact sexual behaviors, emphasizing the significant gender differences in these aspects. The findings shed light on the necessity of culturally sensitive and comprehensive sex education and the urgent need for tailored approaches to health promotion and education.

Sleep health among youth outside of the gender binary: Findings from a national Canadian sample

ObjectivesSleep is important for adolescent health. The unique needs of suprabinary youth (youth with gender identities outside of the gender binary), along with the growing number of youth with these identities, underscores the need to better understand sleep health within this population. The current study’s objectives were to (1) examine differences in sleep health between suprabinary and binary youth and (2) explore how social support, peer victimization, and technology use accounted for these differences. MethodsData were drawn from the 2017/2018 Health Behavior in School Aged Children Survey. Adolescents (individuals ages 14 to 17, n = 10,186), indicated whether they were suprabinary (n = 182) or binary (n = 10,004), and completed measures of sleep health (difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying awake, weekday and weekend sleep length), covariates (age, family affluence, race/ethnicity, depressive symptoms), as well as variables that may account for differences between suprabinary and binary youth (family, friend, and teacher support, as well as peer victimization, and technology use before bed). ResultsSuprabinary youth reported worse sleep health on all outcomes, and differences persisted for both difficulty falling asleep and weekday sleep hours accounting for covariates. Significant indirect effects between suprabinary status were observed across all sleep outcomes for family support and school climate. Indirect effects for sleep quality were also observed via peer victimization. ConclusionsFindings support the relevance of looking at basic health processes like sleep to better understand how the stressors associated with suprabinary status impact health outcomes among this vulnerable population.

Adolescent caffeine use and problematic school behavior: A longitudinal analysis of student survey data and teacher observations.

Caffeine is a psychostimulant possessing arousal, motor activation, and reinforcing properties, which is consumed daily by most adolescents aged 12-19 years. Although current understanding of the implications of adolescent caffeine consumption for school behaviors remains incomplete, studies have shown that in addition to acute effects of the drug, in common with other habit-forming psychoactive substances, regular use leads to physical dependence, evidenced by recurring negative withdrawal symptoms. Employing two waves of longitudinal data, we tested the prospective association between daily caffeine use and homeroom teacher-observed self-control and problem behavior in a sample of middle-school students in 20 schools in West Virginia in the United States. Caffeine was operationalized with two dichotomized variables, daily consumption of <100 mg, and daily consumption of >100 mg, versus no daily use. Gender, mother's education, family financial status, social support by primary caregiver and adults in school, and school climate, were applied as covariates in linear mixed models. Daily caffeine use of >100 mg was robustly and inversely associated with self-control and positively associated with problem behavior. Caffeine consumption and associated withdrawal symptoms may be an important factor in problematic school behavior among adolescents. Recent advent of highly concentrated caffeine products (e.g., caffeine "shots") commonly marketed directly at youth, should give rise to concerns including consideration about limiting caffeine consumption among children and youth.
