Physico-Chemical Soil Analysis of Agriculture Farm in Sangam University, Bhilwara, Rajasthan

Abstract: The current study, conducted in 2022, examined the physico-chemical characteristics of soil at Sangam University (SU) in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. Soil sample was collected 15 cm depth from Sangam crop cafeteria and Sangam farm and them analyzed for assessing the soil physical properties and availability of macro-nutrient present in soil of selected locations. Soil textural classes were clay loam and sandy loam. Bulk density 1.06gcm-3 (SU farm) and 1.11 gcm-3 (SU Campus) in both field water holding capacity 59% and 54% was good. Electrical conductivity 0.25- 0.66 dSm-1 (SU farm) & 0.26- 0.80dSm -1 (SU Campus) are safe range and organic carbon 0.43% & 0.42% is in sufficient amount of both area. Soil pH 7.5 & 8.0 is neutral to slightly alkaline. The available Phosphorus 54 kg ha-1 and 42 kg ha-1 , Potassium 140 kg ha-1 and 130 kg ha-1 in Sangam farm and campus. Hence, it is suggested to add required amount of gypsum, FYM and compost in the soil.

Replenish the Electron-Deficient State of Carbonyl Carbon Atoms to Achieve Stable Li-S Battery.

Carbonate-based electrolytes are widely used in Li-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their safe, stable properties and wide operating temperature range. However, the nucleophilic attack at carbonyl carbon atoms by polysulfide anions and the low solubility of lithium nitrate (LiNO3<0.1m) in carbonate-based electrolytes seriously hinder the application of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries in carbonate-based electrolytes. Herein, the electrophilicity of carbonyl carbon atoms is gradually reduced through solvent molecules redesign, eliminated the attack of polysulfide anions on carbonyl carbon atoms, and also changed the intermolecular interactions in the electrolyte, improving the solubility of LiNO3 (>1.0m) and forming stable LiNxOy-containing SEI on the surface of the lithium metal. The assembled Li-S battery with these designed solvent molecules delivers an initial discharge capacity of 1251.7mAhg-1 at 0.1C. In addition, the lithium-sulfur battery assembled with the designed solvent molecule has a discharge capacity of 631mAhg-1 after 420 cycles at 0.2 C, with a capacity retention of ≈60%. Moreover, the Li||Li symmetrical cell shows stable cycle performance over 1200h at 0.5mAcm-2 and 0.5mAhcm-2.

Comparison of the safety of flexible ureteroscopy with the different irrigation methods in a 3D print kidney model.

To compare intrarenal pressure (IRP) and irrigation flow by varying suspended water heights and hand-held pressure pumping during flexible ureteroscopy using an in vitro 3D printed kidney model. A 3D-printed silicone model was used to simulate the kidney. The ureteral access sheath(UAS) was connected to the kidney model and positioned at the ureteropelvic junction. Central venous pressure tubing was used to monitor the pressure in the renal pelvis under different conditions. Sheath sizes of 12Fr and 14Fr were tested with flexible ureteroscope (fURS) sizes of 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5Fr, respectively. The irrigation was gravity-based, with suspended water heights set at 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180cm. The manual pumping as another set of measurement is used to measure the maximum intrarenal pressure. Using a 12Fr sheath with a 9.5Fr fURS loading without additional accessories resulted in IRP ranging from 8.4 to 17.5 cmH2O, while manual pumping perfusion pressure exceeded 60 cmH2O. Loading a 200-um laser fiber reduced the pressure to 6.4-10.5 cmH2O, and using a stone basket decreased it to 4.0-5.0 cmH2O. Using a 14Fr sheath with a 9.5Fr fURS resulted in an IRP of 2.5-6.0 cmH2O, compared to 17 cmH2O with manual pumping. With a 12Fr sheath and a 7.5Fr fURS, the IRP ranged from 5.4 to 8.2 cmH2O, while manual pumping resulted in 25.5 cmH2O. With a 14Fr sheath and a 7.5Fr fURS, the IRP ranged from 1.5 to 4.3 cmH2O, and manual pumping resulted in 9.0 cmH2O. When using a UAS in a flexible ureteroscopy, the IRP can be maintained within a safe range with different fURS/UAS combos with a suspended water height of less than 180cm. However, with specific fURS/UAS(9.5Fr/12Fr) combos, the IRP exceeded the safe limit when using manual pumping. Gravity irrigation with a suspended water height of less than 180cm is safe in this simulated clinical environment.

Effects of atmospheric pressure change during flight on insulin pump delivery and glycaemic control of pilots with insulin-treated diabetes: an in vitro simulation and a retrospective observational real-world study.

Glycaemic control and clinical outcomes in diabetes are improved by continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII). Atmospheric pressure changes during flights may affect insulin delivery from pumps and cause unintended metabolic consequences, including hypoglycaemia, in people with type 1 diabetes. The present report evaluates both hypobaric flight simulation and real-world data in pilots using insulin pumps while flying. In the flight simulation part of this study, an in vitro study of insulin pumps was conducted in a hypobaric chamber, de-pressurised to 550 mmHg to mimic the atmospheric pressure changes in airliner cabins during commercial flights. Insulin delivery rates and bubble formation were recorded for standard flight protocol. Insulin infusion sets, without pumps, were tested in a simulated rapid decompression scenario. The real-world observational study was a 7.5-year retrospective cohort study in which pre- and in-flight self-monitored blood glucose (SMBG) values were monitored in pilots with insulin-treated diabetes. Commercial and private pilots granted a medical certificate to fly within the European Union Aviation Safety Agency approved protocol and receiving insulin either by pump or multiple daily injections (MDI) were included. In the flight simulation study, full cartridges over-delivered 0.60 U of insulin during a 20 min ascent and under-delivered by 0.51 U during descent compared with ground-level performance. During emergency rapid decompression, 5.6 U of excess insulin was delivered. In the real-world study, seven pilots using CSII recorded 4656 SMBG values during 2345 h of flying across 1081 flights. Only 33 (0.7%) values were outside an acceptable safe range (5.0-15.0 mmol/l [90-270 mg/dl]). No clinically significant fall in the median SMBG concentration was observed after aircraft ascent and no in-flight SMBG values were within the hypoglycaemic range (<4.0 mmol/l [<72 mg/dl]). Compared with pilots receiving MDI therapy, pilots using CSII recorded more SMBG values within the acceptable range (99.3% vs 97.5%), fewer values in the low red range (0.02% vs 0.1%), fewer in-flight out-of-range values (0.2% vs 1.3%) and maintained stricter glycaemic control during flight. Ambient pressure reduction during simulated flights results in bubble formation and expansion within insulin cartridges. This causes unintended delivery of small insulin doses independent of pre-determined delivery rates and represents the maximum amount of insulin that could be delivered and retracted. However, in vivo, pilots using CSII in-flight did not experience a fall in blood glucose or episodes of hypoglycaemia during these atmospheric pressure changes and the use of insulin pumps can be endorsed in view of their clinical benefits.

Optimization of chemical engineering control for large-scale alkaline electrolysis systems based on renewable energy sources

In the context of renewable energy, dynamic control is crucial for large-scale alkaline water electrolysis systems. Under traditional Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control, the system's temperature and impurity levels may exceed safe limits during sudden load changes, compromising system safety. Therefore, this study proposes a control strategy based on mathematical models of system temperature and impurities, including Model Predictive Control (MPC) for temperature and Optimal Curve Tracking (OCT) for impurities. The MPC controller offsets the disturbances in temperature caused by current fluctuations through state prediction, while the OCT controller ensures that impurity levels remain within safe limits. Real-time application of these control strategies is achieved through MATLAB-PLC communication, validating controller performance. Experimental results show that the MPC controller exhibits excellent dynamic response and stability in controlling the stack temperature, with a maximum temperature peak deviation of only 2.9 K and a temperature fluctuation range of 5.9 K. This represents a reduction of 1.6 K in peak deviation compared to traditional PID controllers and significantly decreases the temperature fluctuation range. The OCT controller also demonstrates good safety and stability in controlling hydrogen to oxygen (HTO) impurity levels, consistently maintaining the HTO content at the set upper limit of 1.5%, thereby expanding the safe operational range of the system and reducing the need for frequent adjustments to the system setpoints.

Force analysis and improvement of main transformer bushing terminal structure

Abstract After investigation, it was found that due to natural environmental conditions such as rain and snow temperature, equipment such as down conductor above the terminals, and natural swings of wires, the terminal blocks of the down conductor bushing on the high voltage side of the main transformer of a 500kV substation will deteriorate and deform. Following the force analysis and experiment on the down conductor bushing terminal block on the high voltage side of the main transformer, it is found that the weak structure of the bushing terminal block lies in the vertical orientation of the terminal and the connection point of the transverse structure, and its horizontal external force limit value is 1.91KN. In this paper, it was finally decided to improve the terminal structure by erecting diagonal supports between the vertical and transverse structures of the terminals. The improved terminal block can be subjected to an external force of 5KN horizontally, and the terminal shape is within the safe range. It can ensure the safety and stability of the main transformer bushing terminal block.

A molten salt energy storage integrated with combined heat and power system: scheme design and performance analysis

To investigate the flexibility and economic characteristics of a molten salt-combined heat and power (CHP) integrated system under different heat sources, this paper proposes a design scheme for a molten salt-CHP system based on flue gas heat storage, comparing it with main steam heat storage and reheated steam heat source schemes. First, a molten salt heat release sub-loop is designed, where the steam heated by the molten salt can either compensate for heating demands or enter the low-pressure turbine for work, meeting the flexible operation requirements of the unit. Secondly, in response to fluctuations in temperature and pressure parameters of the main steam and reheated steam in the flue gas heat storage scheme, a water-spray desuperheating device is arranged. Finally, a simulation experiment based on a 350 MW CHP was conducted, and the results show that the flue gas molten salt heat storage technology significantly reduces energy loss on the boiler side. Underrated load, compared to the main steam and reheated steam heat storage schemes, the flue gas heat storage scheme has the highest boiler exergy efficiency and total energy utilization efficiency, at 55.8% and 59.1% respectively. During the thermal storage process, the coal consumption index of the flue gas heat storage scheme decreases with increasing load, while conversely, during the heat release process, it increases with the load. The peak-shaving capacity increases with the load, reaching 78.4 MWh under the 75% THA condition. In the steam extraction heating scenario, coupling with the molten salt subsystem can expand the safe heating operation range of the original unit, increasing the maximum peak shaving range by 13.9%, and increasing the maximum heating capacity by 65.4%.

Risk assessment of mold growth on engineered bamboo and its application

Engineered bamboo, as a low-carbon biomass building material, is more prone to mold growth than traditional building materials. Mold not only threatens the structural integrity of buildings but also poses health risks to occupants. Current mold prediction models cannot accurately assess the risk of mold growth on engineered bamboo. This research first examined mold growth on three commonly used types of engineered bamboo under 20 different operational conditions. A prediction model was then developed and validated specifically for engineered bamboo. Results showed that bamboo surfaces became fully covered in mold at high relative humidity (RH ≥ 85%). When RH was reduced from 95% to 75%, mold germination was delayed by about 70 days. A relative humidity of 60% at temperatures between 15°C and 35°C was identified as a safe range for all engineered bamboo types. Additionally, the prediction model demonstrated high accuracy in forecasting mold risk. The findings also indicated that raising the air conditioning heating setpoint from 18°C to 20°C is more effective in reducing mold risk than lowering the cooling setpoint from 28°C to 26°C. This research offers a method to quantify indoor mold growth risks in engineered bamboo buildings under various climates, helping to optimize their design and operation.

Physical test and irritation test of water guava leaf extract (Syzygium aqueum) as a natural spray hand sanitizer

This study explores the manufacture of water guava (Syzygium aqueum) leaf extract-based hand sanitizers as an effective and safe natural alternative for maintaining hand hygiene. Given the importance of hand hygiene in preventing the spread of disease, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of hand sanitizers has increased significantly. However, alcohol-based products are often irritating to the skin. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the potential of water guava leaf extract to improve the effectiveness and convenience of hand sanitizers. Water guava leaves contain active compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and phenolics with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The research method includes extracting water guava leaves, hand sanitizer formulation, and organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, and irritation testing. The tests carried out were physical tests, including organoleptic tests (shape, smell, and colour), pH, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesiveness, and product irritation tests. The research was designed with a posttest-only control group design with true experimental by analyzing the test object after being given treatment. This research is expected to produce products that are useful for the community. The results showed that all hand sanitizer formulas tested had a pH within the safe range of pH 5 for the skin without irritating the skin of the test animals. Formulas with added guava extract showed improved aroma and anti-irritation, with formulas F1 and F2 gaining the highest preference in aroma and colour. This study concludes that water guava leaf extract can be effectively used in the manufacture of hand sanitizers, providing a gentler and skin-friendly alternative to alcohol-based synthetic products.

Momentum flux coefficient effect on vertical two-phase flows: Numerical method comparison

The governing equations of two-phase flows have a safe operating range, and exceeding this range can negatively impact the results. To extend this safe range, one key strategy is to incorporate the momentum flux coefficient into the governing equations. This paper introduces the application of the momentum flux coefficient to no-pressure or free-pressure model equations for the first time, specifically evaluating its performance in downward co-current two-phase flows through numerical methods. A new and improved version of the no-pressure model is also presented. Findings suggest that the force approach method yields more accurate results compared to other methods, whereas the Richmeier method produces unrealistic outcomes at discontinuities. A comparison between the standard and the developed no-pressure models reveals that the latter does not prevent nonphysical mutations and even exacerbates their occurrence. However, the developed no-pressure model successfully reduces numerical distribution production.

A Wearable, Steerable, Transcranial Low-Intensity Focused Ultrasound System.

Transcranial low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) offers unique opportunities for precisely neuromodulating small and/or deep targets within the human brain, which may be useful for treating psychiatric and neurological disorders. This article presents a novel ultrasound system that delivers focused ultrasound through the forehead to anterior brain targets and evaluates its safety and usability in a volunteer study. The ultrasound system and workflow are described, including neuronavigation, LIFU planning, and ultrasound delivery components. Its capabilities are analyzed through simulations and experiments in water to establish its safe steering range. A cohort of 20 healthy volunteers received a LIFU protocol aimed at the anterior medial prefrontal cortex (amPFC), using imaging and questionnaires to screen for adverse effects. Additional development after the study also analyzes the effect of the skull and sinus cavities on delivered ultrasound energy. Simulations and hydrophone readings agreed with <5% error, and the safe steering range was found to encompass a 1.8 cm × 2.5 cm × 2 cm volume centered at a depth 5 cm from the surface of the skin. There were no adverse effects evident on qualitative assessments, nor any signs of damage in susceptibility-weighted imaging scans. All participants tolerated the treatment well. The interface effectively enabled the users to complete the workflow with all participants. In particular, the amPFC of every participant was within the steering limits of the system. A post hoc analysis showed that "virtual fitting" could aid in steering the beams around subjects' sinuses. The presented system safely delivered LIFU through the forehead while targeting the amPFC in all volunteers, and was well-tolerated. With the capabilities validated here and positive results of the study, this technology appears well-suited to explore LIFU's efficacy in clinical neuromodulation contexts.

A Review on Mechanism and Influencing Factors of Shear Performance of UHPC Beams

Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) is increasingly used in various engineering projects due to its exceptional mechanical properties. This work conducts a literature review of research on the shear performance of UHPC beams in recent decades, with a focus on summarizing the formulas for calculating shear capacity and the main factors influencing shear performance. Firstly, this work reviews the calculation methods for the shear capacity of UHPC beams in different countries, along with their respective advantages and limitations. Subsequently, it provides a detailed analysis of various factors influencing the shear performance of UHPC beams, including longitudinal and stirrup reinforcement, steel fiber content, aggregates, admixtures, the shear-span ratio, shear keys, bolts, shear-reinforcement techniques, and environmental impacts. Through horizontal comparisons, the performance of UHPC beams and ordinary concrete beams under similar experimental conditions is examined to reveal the optimal shear working conditions for UHPC beams. Additionally, it is found that UHPC performs exceptionally well in composite beams, being compatible with numerous materials and significantly enhancing the shear strength of these beams. Lastly, the paper proposes suggestions for maximizing the shear performance of UHPC beams within a safe and reliable operating range and outlines future research directions.

Oxygen in the newborn pneriod: Could the oxygen reserve index offer a new perspective?

Oxygen therapy has been one of the main challenges in neonatal intensive care units (NICU). The guidelines currently in use try to balance the burden of hypoxia and hyperoxia such as retinopathy of prematurity, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and death. The goal of this paper is to review neonatal oxygenation and the impact of hyperoxia and hypoxia in neonatal outcomes as well as review the available literature concerning the use of Oxygen Reserve Index (ORiTM) in clinical practice and its potential in Neonatology, particularly in NICU. Pulse oximetry has been used to monitor oxygenation in newborns with the advantage of being a noninvasive and continuous parameter, however it has limitations in detecting hyperoxemic states due to the flattening of the hemoglobin dissociation curve. The ORiTM is a new parameter that has been used to detect moderate hyperoxia and, when used in addiction to spO2, could be helpful in both hypoxia and hyperoxia. Studies using this tool are mainly in the adult population, during anesthetic procedures with only a small number of studies being performed in pediatric context. Oxygen targets remain a major problem for neonatal population and regardless of the efforts made to establish a safe oxygenation range, a more individualized approach seems to be the more appropriate pathway. ORiTM monitoring could help defining how much oxygen is too much for each newborn. Despite its promising potential, ORiTM is still a recent technology that requires more studies to determine its true potential in clinical practice.

Self-Cross-Linked Hyaluronic Acid Gel for Adhesion Prophylaxis in Laparoscopic Deep Endometriosis Removal: Safety Report of a Prospective Pilot Study

Background/Objectives: Surgical removal of deep endometriosis lesions is an established method of reducing patient symptoms, but it often results in iatrogenic adhesions that lead to further problems. This pilot study presents the safety evaluation of a novel self-cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel used to reduce adhesions after non-bowel deep endometriosis surgery. Methods: A single cohort, single-center, non-randomized pilot study was conducted in patients diagnosed with non-bowel deep endometriosis who underwent a three-stage treatment regimen consisting of first surgery, hormone therapy and second surgery. The present report is limited to an analysis of the inflammatory parameters, pain and complications occurring within a 72 h period following the initial laparoscopy (FLL) utilizing the anti-adhesion gel. Results: 60 patients (28.48 ± 5.9 years old) were included. 24 h after the intervention, a slight elevation in C-reactive protein levels was observed in 38.33% of cases (0.98 ± 1.46 mg/dL), with a statistically significant difference after FLL (0.98 ± 1.46 mg/dL before FLL vs. 1.03 ± 1.29 mg/dL after FLL; p =&lt; 0.001); there were no patients with levels above 10 mg/dL before or after surgery. 24 h after FLL, 29.33% of patients had a leukocyte count greater than 11 Thous/μL, with a maximum observed value of 16.2 Thous/μL. The count was found to be statistically significantly higher after FLL (6.03 ± 1.91 Thous/μL before FLL vs. 9.15 ± 2.61 Thous/μL after FLL; p =&lt; 0.001). At 72 h post-intervention, postoperative pain was reported in up to 63.33% of cases, and one urinary tract infection with fever occurred but was not considered to be related to the product. No serious adverse events were observed. Conclusions: The results of this exploratory study showed a safe range of inflammatory response within a 24 h period following the application of the novel self-cross-linked hyaluronic acid antiadhesion gel (HyaRegen®) in patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery for non-bowel deep endometriosis.

Evaluation of anterior teeth crown-root morphology and alveolar bone structure in patients with closed deep overbite using cone beam computed tomography

This retrospective study used cone-beam computed tomography to investigated the crown-root morphology and alveolar bone structure in incisors region in subjects with closed deep overbite and comparison the difference between gender and age. The CBCT images for 40 subjects (group C) with Angle II division 2 were selected from patients of the HeFei Stomatological Hospital from November 2023 to March 2024.20 individual normal occlusion subjects (group A),20 patients with Angle II division 1(group B) were included. The crown-root ratio of the maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth, crown-root angle and alveolar bone structure were measured on the CBCT images, the data were statistically analyzed. In addition to mandibular lateral incisor, the crown-root ratio of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth in the Class II division 2 group was higher than that in the individual normal occlusion group and the Class II division 1 (P < 0. 05). The crown-root angle of maxillary anterior teeth in the Class II division 2 group was smaller than that in the individual normal occlusion group and the Class II division 1 (P < 0. 05). The alveolar bone thickness of the maxillary central incisor was comparatively smaller, while the alveolar bone height was relatively higher in the Class II division 2 group. Age and gender were associated with change in root lengths and crown-root angle for the Class II division 2 group (P < 0. 05). Patients with closed deep overbite malocclusion exhibit a significant difference compared to the controls for most measurements. The patients presenting with Class II division 2 malocclusion exhibit excessive inward positioning of the anterior teeth, resulting in evident crown-root angle, a large crown-root ratio, and minimal labial alveolar bone. In order to keep the tooth movement within the safe range of alveolar bone movement, it is necessary to strictly control the torque and use appropriate orthodontic force to reduce the risk of bone fenestration, bone dehiscence, gingival recession and root resorption.

Simulation analysis of force and fatigue life of circular wheel of crawler vehicle

During loading and driving, the wheels bear the vertical load from the body mass and the excitation load generated by uneven road surface on the one hand, and bear the driving torque on the other hand. The load-bearing methods of wheels are generally divided into bottom load-bearing and top load-bearing. This paper describes the structural characteristics of the track system of the articulated track vehicle and the interaction relationship between the main components of the track system. Finite element calculation is carried out based on ANSYS software to obtain the stress distribution of each key component under various loading methods. It can be seen from the results that all key components of the track system can meet the strength and rigidity requirements; although there are also areas with large local stress, they are all within the safe range, which is mainly caused by stress concentration. Safe life is obtained through fatigue analysis.

Assessment of Intrarenal Pressure through Dilatation State of the Renal Collecting System

Introduction: The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between the dilation states of the renal collecting system in flexible ureteroscopy (f-URS) view and intrarenal pressure (IRP). Methods: Fifteen porcine kidneys were randomly selected and numbered 1 through 15. Pressure transducers were inserted into the renal calyx via puncture and adjusted to a zero position. The distal end of the f-URS probe was placed within the renal pelvis. Perfusion rates of 50 mL/min, 80 mL/min, and 100 mL/min were utilized. We observed the relationship between the dilation state of the renal collecting system and changes in IRP. The state of complete dilation was defined as an unchanging spatial morphology of the renal collecting system as visualized during f-URS. Results: With irrigation rates of 50 mL/min, 80 mL/min, and 100 mL/min, IRP values at the moment of complete dilation of the renal collecting system ranged from 16 to 18 cm H2O, 16–19 cm H2O, and 16–19 cm H2O, respectively. Maximum IRPs ranged from 47 to 49 cm H2O, 82–85 cm H2O, and 97–100 cm H2O, respectively. Prior to complete dilation of the renal collecting system, IRP consistently remained below 20 cm H2O. However, following full dilation of the renal collecting system, IRP rose rapidly and rapidly surpassed 20 cm H2O. Despite sustained elevations in IRP following full dilation, no significant alterations in the renal collecting system dilated morphological were observed with f-URS. Conclusions: In vitro experiments indicate that when the renal collecting system is not fully dilated, the IRP is consistently less than 20 cm H2O. Evaluation of IRP being within a safe range can be determined by assessing the dilation status of the renal collecting system.

A seamless Phase I/II platform design with a time-to-event efficacy endpoint for potential COVID-19 therapies.

In the search for effective treatments for COVID-19, the initial emphasis has been on re-purposed treatments. To maximize the chances of finding successful treatments, novel treatments that have been developed for this disease in particular, are needed. In this article, we describe and evaluate the statistical design of the AGILE platform, an adaptive randomized seamless Phase I/II trial platform that seeks to quickly establish a safe range of doses and investigates treatments for potential efficacy. The bespoke Bayesian design (i) utilizes randomization during dose-finding, (ii) shares control arm information across the platform, and (iii) uses a time-to-event endpoint with a formal testing structure and error control for evaluation of potential efficacy. Both single-agent and combination treatments are considered. We find that the design can identify potential treatments that are safe and efficacious reliably with small to moderate sample sizes.

Simulation of osteotomy in total knee arthroplasty with femoral extra-articular deformity assisted by artificial intelligence: a study based on three-dimensional models

BackgroundThe impact of extra-articular deformities (EADs) on lower limb alignment and collateral ligament integrity during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) poses significant challenges, increasing surgical complexity. Our study aims to evaluate the influence of EADs on mechanical axis alignment and the risk of collateral ligament injury during TKA using an AI-assisted surgical planning system, with the goal of minimizing ligament damage through precise and scientific planning.MethodsA healthy volunteer underwent CT and MRI scans of the lower limbs. The scan images were imported into Mimics 20.0 software, and the reconstructed models were spatially aligned using 3-maticResearch 11.0 software. Using Unigraphics NX9.0 software, 50 three-dimensional models of femoral lateral joint deformities with varying positions and angles were created. Finally, TKA was simulated using the AI JOINT preoperative planning system.ResultsThe larger the deformity angle and the closer it is to the knee joint, the more pronounced the deviation of the mechanical axis. During MA-aligned osteotomy, nine types of deformities can damage the collateral ligaments. After adjusting the varus/valgus of the prosthesis within a safe range of 3° and leaving a residual 3° varus/valgus in the lower limb alignment, only the 25° varus and 25° valgus deformities located at 90% of the femoral anatomical axis remain uncorrected.ConclusionFor patients with osteoarthritis and concurrent EAD undergoing TKA, using reconstructed 3D models of the collateral ligaments for preoperative planning helps visually assess collateral ligament damage, providing a practical solution. Minimizing intra-articular osteotomies within a safe range and allowing some residual alignment deviation can reduce the risk of collateral ligament injury.

Predictive modeling for coiled tubing fatigue using advanced machine learning techniques

Coiled tubing CT plays Pivotal role in oil and gas well intervention operations due to its advantages such as flexibility, fast mobilization, safe, low cost and wide range of applications, including: well intervention, cleaning, stimulation, fluid displacement, cementing, and drilling. However, CT is subject of fatigue and mechanical damage caused by repeated bending cycles, internal pressure and environmental factors which can lead to a premature failure, high operational cost and production downtime. With the development of CT proprieties and application traditional fatigue life prediction methods based on analytical models integrated in tracking process showed in some cases an underestimate or overestimate of the actual fatigue life of CT particularly when complex factor like welding type, corrosive environment, and high-pressure variation are involved. This study addresses this limitation by introducing a comprehensive machine learning-based approach to improve the accuracy of CT fatigue life prediction, using a data set derived from over 350 tests both lab scale and full-scale fatigue test. The study has incorporated the impact of different parameters such as CT, grades, wall, thickness, CT diameter, internal pressure and welding types. By using advanced machine learning techniques such as artificial network (ANN), Gradient boosting regressor we got a more precise estimation of the number of cycles to failure than traditional models. The results of this study shown the importance of integration of machine learning for CT fatigue life analysis and demonstrating its capacity to enhance the prediction accuracy and reduce the uncertainty. A detailed machine Learning models is presented, emphasizing their capability to handle complex data and improve prediction under diverse operational conditions. This study contributes to more reliable, CT management and safer more cost-efficient well intervention operations.
