All-round robots inherited from intangible cultural heritage

This study aims to deeply explore the application and impact of the intangible cultural heritage all-purpose robot and its supporting APP in rural tourism. Through case analysis, theoretical discussion and data statistical analysis, it is expected that the smooth implementation of this project can bring significant economic benefits to rural residents. Increase revenue while promoting and inheriting intangible cultural heritage, improving tourists’ travel experience, and thereby enhancing the reputation of the local tourism industry. This study will provide useful reference and reference for the innovative development of rural tourism.

Resident Participation in Environmental Governance of Sustainable Tourism in Rural Destination

The rapid development of rural tourism has placed significant pressure on the rural environment, and relying solely on the government and market forces is insufficient for effective governance. It is urgent to integrate endogenous rural forces into environmental governance. The development of social behavior theory offers new insights into exploring sustainable approaches for resident participation in environmental governance in rural tourism areas. This paper, based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) theoretical framework from social behavior theory, outlines the entire process of rural tourism residents transitioning from individual stimuli to psychological responses and ultimately to participation in environmental governance. This study combines the Motivation-Opportunity-Ability (MOA) model to analyze the stimulus factors affecting local residents and jointly constructs a path mechanism model for resident participation in environmental governance in rural tourism areas. A total of 462 valid questionnaires were collected through a survey, and the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method was used for empirical testing to determine the path coefficients between variables. On this basis, a system dynamics model was constructed to simulate the dynamic evolution of the relationships between variables. This study found the following: (1) In the process of rural tourism, residents’ participation in environmental governance relies on motivational factors at the stimulus level to play a core leading role; opportunity factors act as catalysts, and ability factors serve as auxiliaries; participation willingness at the organism level plays a crucial role. (2) Material pursuit and formal institutions are the strongest single sustainable factors for residents’ participation in environmental governance in rural tourism areas; combinations of variables such as local attachment, governance knowledge, and governance identity have significant effects. It is recommended that future rural tourism leverage government guidance, coordinate interests, and adhere to a collaborative development approach to ensure the sustainable development of the rural tourism environment.

Research on the Impact of Rural Tourism on Farmer’s Sustainable Livelihood and Coordinated Development (Case Study Jiwodu Village in Yangshuo, Guangxi)

Rural tourism is considered a viable strategy for achieving sustainable rural economic development and poverty reduction, offering significant economic, social, cultural, and ecological benefits. However, as an external force, rural tourism disrupts the livelihood capital and strategies of farmers, significantly influencing their sustainable livelihoods. This paper uses the sustainable livelihood analysis framework from a micro perspective to assess rural tourism's impact on farmers' livelihoods, particularly in Jiwodu Village, Guangxi, China. By categorizing farmers based on the proportion of rural tourism income in their total household income—Tourism-related, Tourism-dominated, and Tourism-exclusive livelihoods—the study constructs a farmer livelihood capital scale, employs a participatory assessment method, and compares changes in the five major livelihood capitals before and after rural tourism development, exploring farmers' perceptions of its impact.

DEVELOPMENT TRENDS OF THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY IN RURAL TOURISTIC AREAS OF SHARR MOUNTAIN

Tourism as a profitable industry every day needs to review new and functional methods for development. In this paper, we will present the trends that help the development of the hospitality industry in rural tourist areas, and the great opportunities for improving some types of tourism that are part of rural tourism. To have a professional operation, we must develop the hospitality industry, which includes accommodation, restaurants, recreation, etc. The tourist infrastructure as a key element has the accommodation, representing the tourist offered by rural tourism development. In addition, the strategic plan of several subtypes of rural tourism in the tourist area of Sharr Mountain will be presented. The main purpose of this scientific paper is to analyze all the trends in the development of the hospitality industry and the development of rural tourism, where based on them plans, strategies, and measures will be drawn up for the further development of rural tourism in Sharr Mountain.

Understanding the Role of Tourist-Oriented Villages in Promoting Rural Tourism in China: Integrating Rural Landscapes and Tourist Services

ABSTRACT Rural tourism strategies in underdeveloped countries have gained significant popularity in recent years. However, the repetitive and irrational construction of tourist destinations contributes to the homogeneity of the tourism environment. Low quality in the rural landscape and tourism services could affect the attraction of tourist spots. Collaboration between rural areas and service-based tourism is essential for the development of tourist-oriented villages. This review paper aims to thoroughly analyze the relationship between rural landscapes and tourism services within tourist-oriented villages in China. It further explores how the synergistic development of these two sectors can enhance rural tourism and addresses the sustainability challenges these villages face. After analyzing the data by integrated review, it is evident that the “wisdom product” concept, which integrates a high-quality rural landscape with tourism services through cultural branding, can improve the attractiveness of tourist-oriented villages and achieve sustainable growth. By grasping this concept, rural areas can experience a revival, enabling local governments, villagers, and tourism service providers to actively participate in the long-term planning, management, and development of tourist-oriented villages, crucial for the enduring success of rural tourism initiatives in China.

The Threat of Cultural Degradation Due to Tourism Activities (Case Study on Tourist Guides from Baduy Dalam Tribe at Banten, Indonesia)

With the inclusion of Baduy in the list of Rural Tourism, it also brings tourists with the habits they bring. Tourism needs and tourist behavior such as bringing mobile phones, taking pictures are feared to affect and are considered to threaten the purity of teachings and beliefs in Baduy. The novelty of this research is to fill the gap of existing problems or a void of knowledge, lack of literature that focuses on the Threat of Cultural Degradation because of the existence of Baduy Dalam Tribe Residents who have activities as tour guides, and they are suspected of having cell phones and Instagram social media which are considered contrary to the customary rules of the Baduy Tribe. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection through interviews, observation and documentation. The data obtained will be analyzed using the Miles & Huberman interactive model. Baduy customary rules strictly prohibit the use of technology, but local guides from the Baduy Dalam tribe are found using mobile phones and Instagram social media to attract tourists to use their services. There is a social change in local guides as they adjust to the needs of tourists. They use this technology secretly because they realize that they have violated customary rules. The customary leader explained that what happened to the local guide had indirectly violated customary rules. The conclusion of this research is that there is a threat of cultural degradation due to tourism activities, especially for tour guides from the Baduy Dalam Tribe. Mobile phone ownership and the use of Instagram social media to attract tourists to use guiding services are considered contrary to customary rules.

The potential significance of geographic information systems (GISs) and remote sensing (RS) in sustainable tourism and decent community involvement in African-rural neighborhoods

PurposeThis study looked at the potential applications of geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) for inclusive community development and participation, sustainable tourism, and rural community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) in sub-Saharan Africa and other rural areas worldwide.Design/methodology/approachTo evaluate resource management systems for rural tourism and the environment in Africa and abroad. The study makes use of reviews of relevant literature and documents, and while linking applications for sustainable tourism and local community empowerment with CBNRM and GIS, vital content was manually analyzed.FindingsThe study shows a potential affinity between agricultural and tourism businesses that GIS in line with the CBNRM conception can strengthen. In many rural and underdeveloped regions of the continent, this highlights the need for a credible and varied tourism strategy to develop and empower the relevant communities.Originality/valueMost agricultural communities in Africa are located in low-income regions. Such areas are rich in natural wildlife and have popular tourist destinations. A mix of regional community development initiatives can be built using GIS, sustainable tourism, CBNRM, and community-based tourism (CBT).

Analyzing Economic Resilience of Rural Tourism in Indonesia Using Synthetic Composite Index

Research Originality: This study used a new method, namely the Adjusted Mazziotta-Pareto Index (AMPI) to measure and categorize economic resilience using clustering analysis. In addition, the innovative method had not been previously applied to tourism resilience in Indonesia, making this study the first to measure tourism village resilience.Research Objectives: This study aimed to analyze economic resilience of tourism village destinations in Indonesia from 2019 to 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Research Methods: The procedures were carried out using a quantitative method to determine resilience index of tourism village in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were obtained from form management documents as well as 24 tourism villages across Java, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara Provinces. Empirical Results: The results showed that the majority of villages were significantly impacted in the initial year of COVID-19, but were able to recover, demonstrating strong capacity and performance in recovering from the pandemic shock. In addition, economic aspects of capacity and performance showed high adaptability after the pandemic, indicating relative resilience to the shock. Heritage Education and Livelihood Satisfaction in Indian Rural Communities: Towards Sustainable Development

Indian rural tourism is expanding as visitors discover more about the rich heritage, customs and lifestyles of rural host communities. The study is performed on a randomly selected sample of 874 persons residing in rural parts of South India. To analyze the effects of the suggested model that aims to assess the livelihood satisfaction of rural people by examining the repercussions of heritage education on their quality of life, Structural equation modelling (SEM) is employed. The results of the SEM demonstrate that factors affecting quality of life are essential in promoting livelihood satisfaction among people living in rural areas. Additionally, it is discovered that heritage education is also found to moderate the association between quality-of-life aspects and livelihood satisfaction of rural host communities. The findings reveal that rural tourism planners must go beyond methods to accomplish tourism and community development by offering Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by improving the livelihood satisfaction of rural host communities through heritage education. Heritage education shows the customs and authenticity of rural host communities by improving the model. The study also sheds light on implications towards the well-being of rural people through heritage education.

The Cognitive Mechanisms of Residents under the Background of the Renewal of Suburban Historical and Cultural Villages

This study aims to investigate the cognitive mechanisms of rural residents amidst the renewal of suburban historical and cultural villages by examining the interplay between nostalgia, collective memory, subjective well-being, and place identity in rural tourism destinations. Using Naobao Village as a case study—a suburban historical and cultural village in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia—this research employs a comprehensive approach integrating experimental methods and questionnaire surveys. The findings demonstrate that analyzing the interaction among the four emotions can elucidate the cognitive mechanism of residents. Moreover, it uncovers that positive tourism effects significantly influence residents’ perception of their living environment with positive effects on collective memory, subjective well-being, and place identity. In the theoretical model for generating cognition among residents in suburban historical and cultural villages, subjective well-being and collective memory play crucial mediating roles. This study offers a novel perspective for spatial reconstruction and cultural evolution of tourist landscapes in suburban rural tourist destinations.

Sustainable Rural Tourism: A Social Transformation of Rural Area

The study focuses on presenting social transformation through quality of life led by sustainable rural tourism. Social transformation is a tenacious and erratic process pointing towards the society’s changes from ascribed status to achieved status. It is not brought in frontline of the research field of tourism, especially, of sustainable rural tourism and quality of life. This paper has selected three rural areas of Bangladesh as a study area where structured questionnaire survey has piloted among local communities who live there for more than three years. One hypothesis was developed regarding the effects of sustainable rural tourism on the quality of life demographically in selected study areas. This study paper has designed to find how sustainable tourism changes a society in rural area from sociocultural, economical, and environmental aspects. The revolution of sustainability of these three dimensions reflects a quality of life of a society. The result has revealed that rural society has experienced economic growth, infrastructural development, social empowerment, cultural preservation, environmental preservation and conservation, and social awareness. It also shows that sustainable rural tourism and social transformation is sharing a favorable relationship in terms of the three pillars of sustainability. It is evident for certain, sustainable tourism development in rural area improves the quality of life and advances the spatial development.

A Study of Rural Entrepreneurship in the Khunti District of Jharkhand through the Mukhyya Mantri Anusuchit Jan Jati Gram Vikas Yojna

The Khunti District primarily comprises rural areas with high migration rates due to rural unemployment. In addition, the lack of alternative livelihood options outside of agriculture has contributed to this trend. To address this issue, the government of Jharkhand launched the MMAJJGVY program in 2015, which focuses on promoting entrepreneurship and providing employment opportunities for educated youth and local women. However, traditional small-scale businesses in rural areas need help adapting to an increasingly globalized environment, hindering their growth and development. Obstacles in rural entrepreneurship also drive the unbalanced development of the region. This study examines the nature of entrepreneurship practices and their challenges, offering recommendations for overcoming these obstacles. The future development of the Khunti area is sustainable entrepreneurial opportunities, with rural tourism being identified as a sustainable means of livelihood for the rural population.

The Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve (ABR): entrepreneurship in ecotourism, opportunities and constraints

The objective of this paper is to determine the role that the dynamics of tourism entrepreneurship play in the sustainable development of the ABR territories, mainly in rural areas, by identifying the entrepreneurial process and the implications of the specificities of rural tourism entrepreneurship; that is, the criteria to be operationalized in the context of ecotourism activities to promote eco-responsible development. After having evoked the theoretical and conceptual aspects relating to entrepreneurship, ecotourism and the ABR space using a literature review, an investigative study, an exploratory qualitative study, was then carried out among tourism stakeholders spread over the Souss Massa region, in the Arganier territory. At the end of our survey, we found that the ecotourism sector remains underdeveloped in the ABR, and only marginally contributes to the local economy. The tourism activity undertaken shows insufficient dynamism to propel the development of tourism and sustainable economic development of the ABR. Entrepreneurship in ecotourism would offer economic opportunities while preserving the natural environment and the cultural richness of the ABR.

Espaços de turismo e lazer na zona rural de Teresina (PI): uma proposta de desenvolvimento sustentável

Tourism in rural areas comprises all activities carried out in non-urban areas, which consists of leisure activities in rural areas in various modalities defined based on the offer: rural tourism, agritourism, ecological tourism, etc. This work aims to understand the dynamics of tourism and leisure spaces in the rural area of the municipality of Teresina, Piaui, and their contributions to sustainable rural development. To this end, exploratory, bibliographic, and documentary research was used. The time frame to be worked on is contemporary, with the use of data and information from the Municipality of Teresina (PMT) through the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development and Tourism (SEMDEC), in addition to the enterprises that operate in the field. In 2022, PMT created the Teresina Sites Route with the aim of strengthening rural tourism in the municipality. The results demonstrate that, among the businesses that make up the route, there is a variety of services offered, with most of them focused on gastronomy and sports and/or recreational activities. There are few enterprises that aim to offer an approximation to activities traditionally related to rural areas, such as agriculture and livestock farming. When considering that tourism and leisure options in rural areas can bring economic, environmental, and cultural benefits, it is essential to ensure that the activity does not grow in a disorderly manner, since a lack of planning can cause environmental degradation, loss of cultural identity and increased cost of living due to the appreciation of the area in question.

The Role of Gastronomy as A Driver of Rural Tourism Development: The Case of Mirandela

Abstract This research aimed to analyze the perception of tourism stakeholders regarding the potential of gastronomy to revitalize tourism in the Mirandela region. The sample consisted of 95 stakeholders (e.g., managers, team leaders, directors, entrepreneurs) operating in the tourism sector. The study was operationalized using a qualitative methodology, and the data were analyzed using MAXQDA software. The results demonstrated that food quality, identity gastronomy, and food heritage are considered differentiating factors of the local cuisine. Additionally, it was found that diversification of tourism offerings, variety of traditional dishes, and multiplier effect are considered essential elements to enhance local gastronomy and boost tourism in the region. It was possible to ascertain that the promotion of local gastronomy as a tourist product depends on the organization of gastronomic events, preservation of culture, investment in digital marketing, and immersive experiences. Finally, it was observed that among the main measures to position the region as a gastronomic tourist destination are support from the private sector, synergies among local stakeholders, investment in infrastructure, and integration of local gastronomy with other tourism activities.

Purpose: This study examines the value of ‘relational population’ as a way to counteract rural decline. Rural areas are spaces of diverse values, but due to population decline, rural areas are facing a weakening of the community base and the disappearance of localities. The concept of relational population is introduced in the process of shifting policy goals from quantitative to qualitative population expansion. Methods: This study surveyed 3,000 adults to estimate the size of the rural relational population, examine their activity behaviour and institutional support, and analyse the differences in activity behaviour between rural relational population and rural tourists. Results: As a result, four groups were identified: (1) the rural relational population, (2) rural tourists, (3) potential relational population, and (4) the unrelational population. Among them, the rural relational population was found to utilise local social ties to stay for a longer period of time compared to one-time tourists. On the other hand, tourists have superficial behaviour in terms of using local social networks and low intention to stay. On the other hand, the majority of people are unrelational and preliminary relational population, and it seems that institutional support such as environmental improvement and urban-rural exchange policies are needed to expand population. Conclusion: Based on the findings, the study explored ways to expand the relational population in terms of policy and institutions, and proposed various practical tasks to revitalize rural areas in various ways.

Research on the regenerative design and practice of the residential architecture atlases in Jiangnan during the Ming and Qing dynasties: a case study of the Mingyue Bay village in Suzhou

ABSTRACT The residential architecture atlases, chronicling the design motifs and craftsmanship of residences in Jiangnan during the Ming and Qing dynasties, serves as a cornerstone in deciphering the cultural metamorphosis and unearthing the subtle architectural essence specific to the region. With the advent of modern digital paradigms, this atlas has undergone a regeneration, evolving into a digital, real-time, and interactive embodiment of architectural lore. This study delves into the contents and characteristics of traditional and informational architectural atlases in Jiangnan during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It includes detailed surveys and mappings of the Mingyue Bay village in Suzhou, focusing on its geographic location, historical culture, and residential architectures. Utilizing AutoCAD and Photoshop, the study delineates the architectural plan atlas, elevation atlas, wooden frame atlas, and decoration atlas. It suggests regenerative design strategies for these traditional atlases. Furthermore, through MasterGo and SketchUp, this study elaborated on the regenerative design strategies of residential architecture information atlases in the Mingyue Bay village, including spatial-temporal information atlas, cultural tourism service atlas, scene experience atlas, model simulation atlas, and game interaction atlas. These atlases are integrated into a service platform of rural intelligent tourism, aimed at fostering the global inheritance of residential architecture culture and the revitalization of rural intelligent tourism.
