Resorption of deciduous teeth of 720 children between the ages of 6 and 12 years was studied in intra-oral full/mouth periapical radiographs. No difference due to sex was observed and the resorption of teeth was uniform on both sides of the jaws. At each age a typical pattern of resorption was noticed which may be useful as an aid in appraising the development and maturation of an individual. The data were compared with similar figures of contemporary American studies. The American children showed accelerated root resorption except at an early stage of resorption of the mandibular molars which in the Indian material was slightly more advanced. The results suggest that retardation in Indian children was due to poor nutrition and inadequate prenatal and postnatal care.
