The aim of this study was to demonstrate the importance of outreach projects in the students' education, taking as an example the Rondon project, and to identify the potential professional and personal benefits acquired by the outreach workers who participated. A narrative review of literature was carried out, from strategic search in the databases Scientific Electronic Library Online, Virtual Health Library and Google Scholar, for scientific papers published between 2008 and 2018. From a total of 506 items obtained in 03 search strategies, with different descriptors, 09 papers were selected that corresponded to the proposed objectives. Results showed that the actions of the Rondon Project play an important role in the academic education, because by interacting in society, undergraduates learn to work as a team, develop creativity and citizen awareness, presenting a better practical-theoretical learning, getting a different view of the realities and social inequalities, and starting to present a more humanized character.
