The didactic activity within the music education lesson must be carried out in order to develop the personality of the students both by knowing and studying the school program and by acquiring among the students some values specific to culture and civilization of the Romanian people, we consider that the process of cultivating the musical feeling in students through the knowledge and experience of popular music is Romanian people within the musical education lessons. The knowledge of popular music is an art that teaches the listener how to learn to listen to popular music, interpret, create, improvise, so as to develop the skills of knowledge, understanding, feeling of popular music. By carrying out the educational approach aimed at cultivating the students musical feeling towards the knowledge and experience of popular music, students will improve national and human values as: truth, beauty, kindness, compassion, love, gratitude, appreciation, happiness, peace.

Towards a multifactorial framework of the Roma’s victimisation: Discrimination, risky situations, and acceptance of violence as correlates of physical assault and harassment

The European Roma population faces violence and discrimination, but the causes of their victimisation are not well understood. This study used a multi-theoretical framework to analyse data from a representative sample of 2,913 Roma surveyed in European Union Minorities and Discrimination Survey II. The results showed that police stops perceived as ethnically motivated, exposure to risky situations, and acceptance of violence when insulted predicted physical victimisation and harassment. To reduce victimisation, recommendations include sensitising police officers, diverse police patrols, crime-reduction measures in neighbourhoods, and education on nonviolent communication. Further research is needed to understand other forms of victimisation among the Roma. The study highlights the usefulness of testing multiple risk factors from different criminological theories to address victimisation of the Roma ethnic minority.

Comparative Analysis of Dermatoglyphic Traits in Albanian and Roma Populations in Kosovo

We examined dermatoglyphics of children in three Albanian and one Roma population sample (collected from 641 individuals from the Albanian populations and 226 individuals from the Roma population of both sexes). We compared Albanian and Roma populations based on four finger (whorl, radial and ulnar loop, and arch) and thirteen palmar traits (pattern frequencies in the Thenar/I interdigital area, II, III, and IV interdigital area, Hypothenar and axial »t« triradius position). The differences between the populations were more evident for palmar traits. In our study the Albanian and the Roma populations showed the best separation when finger and palmar traits are separately analyzed. As expected, the Albanian and the Roma populations separated in statistical analyses of most traits; the main reason for this is the different origins of two ethnic groups. The observed difference also indicates a low level of admixture between the Albanians and the Roma despite them living beside one another for several centuries.

Immunogenetic Background of Chronic Lymphoproliferative Disorders in Romanian Patients-Case Control Study.

The implications of the genetic component in the initiation and development of chronic lymphoproliferative disorders have been the subject of intense research efforts. Some of the most important genes involved in the occurrence and evolution of these pathologies are the HLA genes. The aim of this study is to analyze, for the first time, possible associations between chronic lymphoproliferative diseases and certain HLA alleles in the Romanian population. This study included 38 patients with chronic lymphoproliferative disorders, diagnosed between 2021 and 2022 at Fundeni Clinical Institute, Bucharest, Romania, and 50 healthy controls. HLA class I and class II genes (HLA-A/B/C, HLA-DQB1/DPB1/DRB1) were investigated by doing high resolution genotyping using sequence specific primers (SSP). Several HLA alleles were strongly associated with chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. The most important finding was that the HLA-C*02:02 (p = 0.002, OR = 1.101), and HLA-C*12:02 (p = 0.002, OR = 1.101) have a predisposing role in the development of chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. Moreover, we identified that HLA-A*11:01 (p = 0.01, OR = 0.16), HLA-B*35:02 (p = 0.037, OR = 0.94), HLA-B*81:01 (p = 0.037, OR = 0.94), HLA-C*07:02 (p = 0.036, OR = 0.34), HLA-DRB1*11:01 (p = 0.021, OR = 0.19), and HLA-DRB1*13:02 (p = 0.037, OR = 0.94), alleles have protective roles. Our study indicates that HLA-C*02:02 and HLA-C*12:02 are positively associated with chronic lymphoproliferative disorders for our Romanian patients while HLA-DRB1*11:01, HLA-DRB1*13:02, and HLA-B*35:02 alleles have a protective role against these diseases.

Genetic Characterization of Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Romanian Adult Patients.

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) represents a group of disorders affecting the structure and function of the heart muscle, leading to a high risk of heart failure and sudden cardiac death (SCD). DCM frequently involves an underlying genetic etiology. Genetic testing is valuable for risk stratification, treatment decisions, and family screening. Romanian population data on the genetic etiology of DCM are lacking. We aimed to investigate the genetic causes for DCM among Romanian adult patients at tertiary referral centers across the country. Clinical and genetic investigations were performed on adult patients presenting to tertiary hospitals in Romania. The genetic investigations used next-generation sequencing panels of disease-associated DCM genes. A total of 122 patients with DCM underwent genetic testing. The mean age at DCM diagnosis was 41.6 ± 12.4 years. The genetic investigations identified pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in 50.8% of participants, while 25.4% had variants of unknown significance. Disease-causing variants in 15 genes were identified in people with DCM, with 31 previously unreported variants. Variants in TTN, LMNA, and DSP explained 75% of genetic causes for DCM. In total, 52.4% of patients had a family history of DCM/SCD. Left ventricular ejection fraction of <35% was observed in 41.9% of patients with disease-causing variants and 55% with negative or uncertain findings. Further genotype-phenotype correlations were explored in this study population. The substantial percentage (50.8%) of disease-causing variants identified in patients with DCM acknowledges the importance of genetic investigations. This study highlights the genetic landscape in genes associated with DCM in the Romanian population.

Der Völkerbund und der Schutz der deutschen Minderheit in Rumänien

The study analyzes the way in which the German minority in Romania related, in the period 1920–1933, to the system ensuring the protection of linguistic, racial and religious minorities that operated under the authority of the League of Nations. We note that, while the German minorities in other European states (Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia) were more active in their relationship with the League of Nations, sending petitions to Geneva, the sizable German minority in Romania did not turn to this “international court” in order to raise the problems it was facing in its relations with the Romanian state authorities. Although they were dissatisfied with the content of some laws adopted in the first interwar decade, the Germans in Romania did not refer to the League of Nations, as the Hungarian, Jewish or Russian minorities in Romania did, on issues related to agrarian reform and education laws. The German community in Romania chose the path of internal politics to make their demands known and pursue their economic, political and cultural objectives. Even if at certain moments the Germans in Romania considered the option of appealing to the League of Nations, this option had rather the role of “sensitizing” the ruling parties to the needs of the German minority. Nevertheless, I have identified and analyzed two petitions accepted by the League of Nations Secretariat, which are related, in a way, to the particular problems of the German minorities and to Romania’s post-imperial state status

A Comparative Analysis of Liver Injury Markers in Post-COVID Syndrome among Elderly Patients: A Prospective Study.

In the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, understanding its prolonged impact on vulnerable populations has become a critical area of investigation. This study aimed to elucidate the distinctive post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) and liver injury in Romania's elderly population, hypothesizing unique demographic, clinical, and healthcare factors influencing the manifestation. A longitudinal design was employed, enrolling COVID-19 patients from the Victor Babes Hospital for Infectious Diseases and Pulmonology in Timisoara, Romania. Participants were stratified into three groups based on age and Long COVID status. The study focused on a variety of demographic, clinical, and biological parameters, including liver function tests, to assess the trajectory and severity of liver injury over six months post discharge. Involving 238 participants, the study revealed a significant increase in the duration of hospitalization for those over 65 (15.8 ± 8.2 days) compared to younger groups (p < 0.001). Notably, elderly Long COVID patients exhibited a marked elevation in liver enzymes post discharge, with median ΔALT and ΔAST of 24.1 U/L and 30.2 U/L, respectively, suggesting ongoing liver injury (p < 0.001). Significant metabolic disruptions were observed, with the ΔFasting glucose showing a substantial median decrease of 21.1 mmol/L in the elderly group (p < 0.001). A pronounced reduction in ΔGGT (16.7 U/L) and ΔLDH (48.7 U/L) was noted, indicating a recovery in liver function and reduced tissue damage (p < 0.001). Coagulation profiles and liver fibrosis risk scores, particularly ΔFIB-4 and ΔAPRI, also significantly improved post discharge, indicating a reduced risk of ongoing liver complications. This study confirms the hypothesis of more severe PASC and liver injury among the elderly Romanian population. Significant improvements post discharge suggest a degree of recovery, yet the persistent alterations in liver enzymes, glucose metabolism, and fibrosis risk scores call for continued monitoring and tailored management strategies.

To What Extent Does Cardiovascular Risk Classification of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Differ between European Guidelines from 2023, 2021, and 2019? A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background and Objectives: Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) is intricately associated with an increased cardiovascular (CV) risk, highlighting the imperative for tailored intervention in the prevention and management of CV diseases. To assess the CV risk and subsequent interventions in patients with diabetes, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) has been consistently developing and updating specific guidelines for risk assessment and patient management since 2019. The 2023 risk classification method has significantly changed, introducing a novel probability-based assessment through the implementation of SCORE2-Diabetes instrument. This marks a shift from the risk factor-based classification employed in the 2019 and 2021 methods, representing an innovative approach in risk assessment for individuals with T2DM. This study aims to evaluate the differences in the CV risk classification among hospitalized patients with T2DM using the three proposed methods within the Romanian population, a European population considered to be at very high cardiovascular risk. Materials and Methods: in a consecutive-case, population-based study design, 70 patients hospitalized with T2DM from a European population characterized by very high CV risk were assessed for CV risk using the three proposed methods. The differences between these classifications were subsequently analyzed. Results: In the study group, according to 2023 classification, one patient (1.4%) was classified with moderate CV risk, eight (11.4%) with high cardiovascular risk, and sixty-one (87.2%) with very high cardiovascular risk. A total of 36 patients (51.4%) were classified differently compared to 2021 criteria, the differences being statistically significant (p = 0.047), while 13 (18.6%) were different compared to 2019 criteria, the differences being statistically non-significant (p = 0.731). By comparing the 2021 to the 2019 ESC Guidelines recommendations, 40 patients had a one-step decrease in cardiovascular risk category, from very high to high risk. Conclusions: Most patients included in the analysis were classified as very high CV risk (87.2%). Within a European population characterized by very high CV risk, the SCORE2-Diabetes instrument proves to be a valuable tool, contributing to most step-ups in CV risk classes within the 2023 classification. In a very-high-risk demographic, the 2023 algorithm resulted in different classifications in contrast to the 2021 method but similar classifications observed with the 2019 method.

L’art, l’artiste et la presse:les armes de la propagande et de l’idéologie communiste en Roumanie. L’exposition Flacăra, 1948

After the proclamation of the Romanian People’s Republic in December 1947, a new direction in art developed. The Flacăra exhibition marks the beginning of Soviet-style socialist realism, which gradually takes hold of the Romanian art scene. The press played an essential role in the establishment of realism and exercised a particular form of control. The Communist Party realised that art and the press could be a powerful tool to convey the Marxist-Leninist ideology. The article analyses the press discourse on the works presented in Flacăra.

Biographical-poetic journeys: A conversation with Yeison F. García López

Inspired by W. E. B. Du Bois’s notion of double consciousness, Yeison F. García López assumes multiple identities: Afro-Colombian and Afro-Spanish. This multiplicity allows García López to assert a politically active citizenship, articulated through his migrant journey, his Afro-descendant and Colombian heritage, and his connection with Madrid society. This conversation delves into how García López’s body of work as a poet, theorist, activist, and cultural agent contributes to an emerging Spanish, global, and transatlantic LatinX Latinity (LatinXness) from the Spanish capital. Overall, García López’s efforts shine a spotlight on Spain’s present-day plurality, highlighting the contributions of Africans and Afro-descendant people. He establishes connections among migrant communities of Latin American, Afro-descendant, and Asian origin as well as migrants from Eastern Europe descent, and Roma people and subverts Eurocentrism, colonialism, and white supremacy. García López’s publications and cultural initiatives serve as a platform to amplify the voices of Madrid’s migrant and racialized people, promoting culture as a form of resistance, healing, and empowerment.

Spatio-Temporal Pattern of Tuberculosis Distribution in Romania and Particulate Matter Pollution Associated With Risk of Infection.

The study proposes a dynamic spatio-temporal profile of the distribution of tuberculosis incidence and air pollution in Romania, where this infectious disease induces more than 8,000 new cases annually. The descriptive analysis for the years 2012-2021 assumes an identification of the structuring patterns of mycobacterium tuberculosis risk in the Romanian population, according to gender and age, exploiting spatial modeling techniques of time series data. Through spatial autocorrelation, the degree of similarity between the analyzed territorial systems was highlighted and the relationships that are built between the analysis units in spatial proximity were investigated. By modeling the geographical distribution of tuberculosis, the spatial correlation with particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution was revealed. The identification of clusters of infected persons is an indispensable step in the construction of efficient tuberculosis management systems. The results highlight the link between the distribution of tuberculosis, air pollution and socio-economic development, which requires a detailed analysis of the epidemiological data obtained in the national tuberculosis surveillance and control program from the perspective of geographical distribution.

Health of the romany people and COVID19 primer: reflections upon cultural competence

The Romani people are identified by their language, anthem and flag. Its origins are attributed to India, having passed through successive diasporas to other countries and continents, but it remains very little known, a fact that supports behaviors of strangeness, prejudice and discrimination. In Brazil, there is a predominance of the Calon ethnic group from the Iberian Peninsula, who arrived among those exiled to the country. Social macro determinants such invisibility and inequities can be mitigated through public policies. This article communicates, through the methodology called case study (report of the process over the years), the historical trajectory of work in primary health care aimed at the Romani people in an urban presence in the city of Rio de Janeiro/Brazil, from 2008 to 2023, bringing some academic contributions from its own leaders, showing their intersectoral citizen participation in primary and secondary prevention in addition to health promotion, to the communities to which they belong and dedicate themselves. From a professional perspective, with the experience of coexistence, the cultural competence and leadership skills of the Romani leaders were highlighted. Therefore, intercultural education must be promoted in possible healthcare spaces, also aiming to develop professional cultural competence in a multi-ethnic country.

DARK TOURISM IN ROMANIA: THE BELLU CEMETERY

This article focuses on the most important aspects of dark tourism and deals with the Romanian population's perception of the Bellu Cemetery of Bucharest, a must-see dark tourism attraction. The main purpose of this research was to collect and analyze the opinions of Romanians regarding dark tourism, especially their opinion about the practice of tourism in this cemetery. The objectives to be achieved were (1) to determine the main motives for visiting the cemetery, (2) to determine the most popular gravestones, (3) to determine if and why people believe the cemetery is haunted, and (4) to determine the ethical concerns of being a tourist there. Accordingly, a survey was conducted for the defined scope. It was found that Romanians of all ages are positive about the concept of dark tourism and are willing to practice it.

Molecular Analysis of HLA Genes in Romanian Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection.

Hepatitis B, a persistent inflammatory liver condition, stands as a significant global health issue. In Romania, the prevalence of chronic hepatitis B virus (CHB) infection ranks among the highest in the European Union. The HLA genotype significantly impacts hepatitis B virus infection progression, indicating that certain HLA variants can affect the infection's outcome. The primary goal of the present work is to identify HLA alleles and specific amino acid residues linked to hepatitis B within the Romanian population. The study enrolled 247 patients with chronic hepatitis B; HLA typing was performed using next-generation sequencing. This study's main findings include the identification of certain HLA alleles, such as DQB1*06:03:01, DRB1*13:01:01, DQB1*06:02:01, DQA1*01:03:01, DRB5*01:01:01, and DRB1*15:01:01, which exhibit a significant protective effect against HBV. Additionally, the amino acid residue alanine at DQB1_38 is associated with a protective role, while valine presence may signal an increased risk of hepatitis B. The present findings are important in addressing the urgent need for improved methods of diagnosing and managing CHB, particularly when considering the disease's presence in diverse population groups and geographical regions.

P1197 ERAP2 genetic variant rs2248374 is linked to paradoxical skin reactions induced by TNF-alpha inhibitors in Romanian patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Abstract Background The endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidases (ERAPs) are responsible for trimming protein residues to optimal length for major histocompatibility complex class-1 mediated antigen presentation process. Genome-wide association studies have shown the influence of ERAP1 and ERAP2 genetic variants in disease susceptibility for autoimmune disorders. Their role in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) however remains obscure due to literature data paucity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2248374 (G/A) of ERAP2 gene in disease susceptibility and response to treatment in Romanian population with IBD. This SNP is of particular importance because the G allele produces a truncated ERAP2 transcript undergoing nonsense-mediated decay and therefore individuals with GG genotype have no functional ERAP2 enzyme. Methods The study involved 186 IBD patients (87/99 UC/CD, 91M/69F) and 150 healthy controls (77M/73F) all unrelated and of Romanian ethnicity. Extraintestinal manifestations (EIM) were documented in 43 IBD patients (19UC/24BC). Among patients with biological treatment against TNF-alpha (N=113) there were 31 (27.4%) primary non-responders and 13 (11.5%) with paradoxical skin reactions. All subjects were genotyped for ERAP2 rs2248374 (G/A) using TaqMan Allelic Discrimination Assay (C_25649529_10 Real-Time PCR System, Applied Biosystems by Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA). Association tests were performed with OpenEpi online software using Two by Two Table statistics. P-values (2-tail from Mid-P exact test) were considered significant if &amp;lt;0.05. Results Controls and patients were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for the investigated SNP. No significant differences were observed in relation with the risk of disease or with the therapy response. The minor allele A frequency was significantly lower in IBD patients with paradoxical skin reactions (27%) versus patients without these manifestations (50%, p=0.02, OR 0.36). The genotype AA, responsible for full ERAP2 expression, had 0% frequency in the group with adverse skin reactions compared with 23.2% in patients without (p=0.04, OR 0.0). The GG genotype which is related with no ERAP2 protein expression was more frequent in the subgroup of patients with EIM (41.8%) than in patients without EIM (26.7%), showing a marginal association (p=0.06, OR 1.97). Conclusion Our results point to the fact that ERAP2 rs2248374 AA genotype exerts a protective effect over paradoxical skin reaction induced by TNF antagonist agents, and GG genotype shows marginal association with the presence of EIM in Romanian patients with IBD. We consider these results worthy of replication in larger cohorts of patients.

The Influence of HLA Polymorphisms on the Severity of COVID-19 in the Romanian Population.

In this study, we aimed to investigate whether specific HLA alleles found in patients from Romania and the Republic of Moldova were associated with the severity of COVID-19 infection and its associated mortality. We analyzed the HLA alleles at the -A, -B, -C, -DRB1, and -DQB1 loci in a cohort of 130 individuals with severe and extremely severe forms of COVID-19, including 44 individuals who died. We compared these findings to a control group consisting of individuals who had either not been diagnosed with COVID-19 or had experienced mild forms of the disease. Using multivariate logistic regression models, we discovered that the B*27 and B*50 alleles were associated with an increased susceptibility to developing a severe form of COVID-19. The A*33 and C*15 alleles showed potential for offering protection against the disease. Furthermore, we identified two protective alleles (A*03 and DQB1*02) against the development of extremely severe forms of COVID-19. By utilizing score statistics, we established a statistically significant association between haplotypes and disease severity (p = 0.021). In summary, this study provides evidence that HLA genotype plays a role in influencing the clinical outcome of COVID-19 infection.

Colorectal Cancer Risk Prediction Using the rs4939827 Polymorphism of the SMAD7 Gene in the Romanian Population.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is globally recognized as a prevalent malignancy known for its significant mortality rate. Recent years have witnessed a rising incidence trend in colorectal cancer, emphasizing the necessity for early diagnosis. Our study focused on examining the impact of the SMAD7 gene variant rs4939827 on the risk of colorectal cancer occurrence. The composition of our study group included 340 individuals, comprising 170 CRC diagnosed patients and 170 healthy controls. We performed genotyping of all biological samples using the TaqMan assay on the ABI 7500 Real-Time PCR System (Applied Biosystems, Waltham, MA, USA). This investigation focused on the rs4939827 gene variant, assessing its association with CRC risk and clinicopathological characteristics. Genotyping results for the SMAD7 gene variant rs4939827 revealed a 42.6% prevalence of the C allele in CRC patients (p = 0.245) and a 22.8% prevalence of the T allele in control subjects (p = 0.109). This study concluded that there was an elevated risk of CRC in the dominant model for CC/CT+TT, with a p-value of 0.113 and an odds ratio (OR) of 2.781, within a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 0.998 to 3.456. The findings of our research indicate a correlation between variants of the SMAD7 gene and the likelihood of developing colorectal cancer in our study population. Consequently, these results could be instrumental in facilitating early diagnosis of colorectal cancer utilizing information on single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and genetic susceptibility to the disease.

Adolescents’ Resilience Evaluation Scale – ARES-i25 and the Analysis of its Psychometric Characteristics

This study was designed considering the necessity of a questionnaire (validated on Romanian population and built after consulting the available papers on the subject) for evaluating the resilience of adolescents. It was focused on further developing the ARES ("Adolescents’ Resilience Evaluation Scale”, built in 2018 as a pilot-study, with 62 subjects). This new form (ARES-i25) includes new theoretical aspects, new items and it was completed by 423 subjects. Using factorial exploratory analysis, five factors (which explained 72,1% of the variance of resilience) were identified: tenacity and self-efficiency; self-confidence; learn from life experiences; rapid recovery after trauma; social and familial resources. The reliability was proven by its internal consistency (α= .83 on a general level, and subscales .71&lt;α&gt; .89), while its concurrent validity was proven by .05&lt;r&gt; .75 (comparing the results to those of BRS - Smith et al., 2008) thus proving the adequate psychometric qualities of the new form of ARES-i25. Future studies will focus on extending the sample and on applying ARES-i25 in other countries and creating programs for developing resilience.

Contributions from Research with (and Not without) Roma Women to Social Work during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Scientific literature has evidenced that some social work practices and research tend to foster assimilation and silence ethnic minorities. In the case of Roma, previous research has shown that many social welfare practices do not consider their voices and end up in actions for surveillance and control over social transformation. However, the successful practices in social work with the Roma population that overcome these limitations remain underexplored. This work contributes to this gap in the scientific literature by uncovering one key criterion of some successful actions in this regard. Through the communicative methodology, six women’s focus groups and 30 life stories were conducted. In total, this included 47 Roma women and 33 Roma men from three different Spanish regions, as well as interviews with 30 professionals from education, social services, and civic organizations. The results from the studied context present evidence of a main successful criterion in some social work practices: the inclusion of scientific evidence in the intervention with co-creation with the end-users through egalitarian dialogue. That is, in this context, through the use of scientific evidence together with the co-creation process, the results were very positive.
