The Effect of Role-Playing Methods on Early Childhood Social-Emotional Development

This research is a quantitative study using an experimental method. The research design employed is a one-group pretest-posttest aimed at (1) determining the social skills of children in Group B at KB Al-Qalam before the role-playing method is applied, (2) determining the socio-emotional skills of children in Group B at KB Al-Qalam after the role-playing method is applied, and (3) analyzing whether there is an influence of the role-playing method on the socio-emotional development of early childhood children in Group B at KB Al-Qalam. The independent variable in this study is the role-playing method, while the dependent variable is the socio-emotional skills of the children. The sample in this study consists of all children in Group B at KB Al-Qalam, totalling 15 children. The data obtained from the research show that (1) the social skills of children in Group B at KB Al-Qalam before the role-playing method was applied were in the very low category, with a percentage of 60%, (2) the socio-emotional skills of children in Group B at KB Al-Qalam after the role-playing method was applied were in the moderate category, with a percentage of 33%, and (3) there is an influence of the role-playing method in developing the socio-emotional skills of children in Group B at KB Al-Qalam.

Roleplay Based English Language Learning Strategies and Interactive Programs to Improve the Speaking Skills and Interest of Elementary School Students in Rural Areas in Indonesia - Systematic Literature Review

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of roleplay-based English learning strategies and interactive programs in improving the speaking skills and interest of elementary school students in rural areas in Indonesia. Through a systematic literature review, various community service activities conducted by the team from the Nursing Study Program at STIKes Mitra Husada Medan have shown positive responses from various parties, including religious leaders, community leaders, and local government. These activities combine theory (60%) and direct practice (40%), where the roleplay method has proven effective in improving the English-speaking skills of children aged 10-13 in Bangun Sari Village, Silau Laut District. The findings of this study emphasize the importance of early English language learning in the era of globalization. Interactive, media-based, and game-based methods have been proven to increase students' interest, motivation, and speaking skills. These innovations are expected to address challenges such as limited resources and learning support in rural areas, reducing the quality gap in language education between urban and rural regions. Thus, children in villages will have greater opportunities to compete globally.

Effectiveness of Role-play Method: A Meta-analysis

To investigate the effectiveness of role-play methods in education. Meta-analysis was conducted, and publication bias test and heterogeneity test were performed. Robustness was also tested by the removal-by-removal method. Finally, subgroup analyses were conducted to explore the effects on teaching effectiveness under different moderating variables. Twelve articles with 22 effect size samples involving 907 participants, including 821 university students and 86 secondary school students, were finally included. Meta-analysis demonstrated that teaching with the role-play method had a more significant positive effect on students than the control group (ES=0.818, 95% confidence interval 0.600-1.035). We also found that the role-play method had the most significant impact on students' Skills. This study demonstrates that role-play can enhance learning in all dimensions by allowing students to take on different roles and situations.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE ROLE PLAY METHOD IN TEACHING ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILL TO THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMA NEGERI 4 PALEMBANG

This research aimed to assess the impact of the Role-play method in teaching English speaking skill to tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 4 Palembang. The research method was used a pre-test and post-test one-group design. The population and sample were consist of 292 students from all tenth-grade classes. The researcher selected one class, namely class ten F, consisting of 32 students, After several learning sessions using the role-play method, students were given a post-test to assess the improvement in their speaking skill. The test was used an oral test. The pre-test and post-test assessments were conducted by two raters to ensure the objectivity of the results. The collected data were analyzed using the paired t-test hypothesis testing technique. The inter-rater reliability results for the pre-test were 0.95, indicating that the test was reliable. The inter-rater reliability results for the post-test were 0.99, and the paired t-test calculation result was 24.032. The analysis results showed a significant influence in students speaking skills after the implementation of the Role-play method, as indicated by the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. This research concluded that the role-play method was effective in improving the English speaking skills of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 4 Palembang.

EyeGPT for Patient Inquiries and Medical Education: Development and Validation of an Ophthalmology Large Language Model.

Large language models (LLMs) have the potential to enhance clinical flow and improve medical education, but they encounter challenges related to specialized knowledge in ophthalmology. This study aims to enhance ophthalmic knowledge by refining a general LLM into an ophthalmology-specialized assistant for patient inquiries and medical education. We transformed Llama2 into an ophthalmology-specialized LLM, termed EyeGPT, through the following 3 strategies: prompt engineering for role-playing, fine-tuning with publicly available data sets filtered for eye-specific terminology (83,919 samples), and retrieval-augmented generation leveraging a medical database and 14 ophthalmology textbooks. The efficacy of various EyeGPT variants was evaluated by 4 board-certified ophthalmologists through comprehensive use of 120 diverse category questions in both simple and complex question-answering scenarios. The performance of the best EyeGPT model was then compared with that of the unassisted human physician group and the EyeGPT+human group. We proposed 4 metrics for assessment: accuracy, understandability, trustworthiness, and empathy. The proportion of hallucinations was also reported. The best fine-tuned model significantly outperformed the original Llama2 model at providing informed advice (mean 9.30, SD 4.42 vs mean 13.79, SD 5.70; P<.001) and mitigating hallucinations (97/120, 80.8% vs 53/120, 44.2%, P<.001). Incorporating information retrieval from reliable sources, particularly ophthalmology textbooks, further improved the model's response compared with solely the best fine-tuned model (mean 13.08, SD 5.43 vs mean 15.14, SD 4.64; P=.001) and reduced hallucinations (71/120, 59.2% vs 57/120, 47.4%, P=.02). Subgroup analysis revealed that EyeGPT showed robustness across common diseases, with consistent performance across different users and domains. Among the variants, the model integrating fine-tuning and book retrieval ranked highest, closely followed by the combination of fine-tuning and the manual database, standalone fine-tuning, and pure role-playing methods. EyeGPT demonstrated competitive capabilities in understandability and empathy when compared with human ophthalmologists. With the assistance of EyeGPT, the performance of the ophthalmologist was notably enhanced. We pioneered and introduced EyeGPT by refining a general domain LLM and conducted a comprehensive comparison and evaluation of different strategies to develop an ophthalmology-specific assistant. Our results highlight EyeGPT's potential to assist ophthalmologists and patients in medical settings.

The Role of the Environment in Increasing the Effectiveness of Communication, Information and Education (KIE) Through the Role Play Method on Knowledge of Preventing Sexual Violence in Middle School Children

This study evaluated the effectiveness of the Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) program using the role play method to enhance knowledge about preventing sexual violence among students at An-Nabilah Islamic Middle School, Gunung Kaler District, Tangerang. The research involved 69 student respondents, with the majority being 13 years old (75.4%) and female (73.9%). The initial assessment of students' knowledge about sexual violence prevention showed an average score of 49.35, with a standard deviation of 4.105, and a range of 40 to 60. After the educational intervention, the average score significantly increased to 87.46, with a standard deviation of 4.89, and a range of 80 to 95. The improvement in scores, with a difference of 38.11, indicates a substantial enhancement in knowledge following the CIE program. The Wilcoxon test further confirmed these findings, showing a significant increase in knowledge, with an average increase of 35.00 and a sum of ranks of 2415.00 from 48 respondents. The study concludes that the CIE program using the role play method is highly effective in increasing students' knowledge about preventing sexual violence, highlighting its potential as a valuable educational tool in school settings.

Detection of non-communicable diseases among adolescents as an effort to enhance community participation

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a global health threat, causing high morbidity and mortality rates worldwide, including in Indonesia. The Special Region of Yogyakarta ranks second nationally in the prevalence of NCDs. One of the preventive and control measures for NCDs is through Integrated NCD Posts (Posbindu PTM), targeting individuals aged 15 to 49 years. Recognizing the importance of involving adolescents in NCD prevention and control, this community service program aims to provide education and training for adolescents on NCDs and risk factor detection. The activities were conducted using lecture and roleplay methods, involving 12 adolescents as active participants. Participants were given an understanding of the functions and importance of Posbindu PTM, as well as strategies for preventing and controlling NCDs. During the training, participants took turns practicing as Posbindu PTM cadres, performing duties according to procedures at stations one through five. Evaluation results indicated a significant increase in participants' knowledge, with the average score improving from 71.6 to 87.5. It is expected that adolescents' involvement in this program can strengthen early detection and control efforts for NCD risk factors.

Role Play Method for Social Emotional and Cognitive Development of 4-5 Years Old Children at Paud Amelia 1 Nedam, Sarmi district, Sarmi Regency

The Role Play method is one of the important methods to be applied in the teaching process, especially for early childhood. It is very helpful for children to develop social emotional and cognitive during their growth. The purpose of this research is to find out how the role of the Role Play method in the social emotional and cognitive development of Early Childhood. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data processing techniques through observation and interviews using teachers as respondents. With the application of this Role Play method, it really helps children to appear confident in front of their friends, children dare to show the ability to collaborate in the classroom, help peers, this also helps children be confident in their abilities, and be able to show self-control and patience, besides that children are able to manage their emotions and are able to imagine and create. In using this method, there are several things that need to be considered so that it can be right on target, one of which is that the teacher must prepare himself and prepare what is needed before using this method. It should also be noted that the Role Play method has supporting factors and inhibiting factors.

Evaluation of learning abilities after role-playing method: Comparing outcomes of Active and Observer.

During a role-play simulation session, despite supporting observer learning, educators disagree about whether the learning outcomes of observers are like those of active participants. Evaluation of the degree of knowledge acquisition by these two types of learners during the same role-play session. We carried out a quasi-experimental pre-post intervention study to identify the learning outcomes among learners serving in observer (group 1) and active (group 2) roles during a role-play simulation session. The role play involved 29 learners. In both groups, 65% of learners improved their overall score. The median post-test score was significantly higher in both groups (p=0.0001). Likewise, learners in group 1 (p=0.023) and in group 2 (p=0.008) showed an improvement in the overall score in the within-group evaluation study. The between-group evaluation study showed no statistically significant difference in overall score improvement (p=0.58), number of learners improving (p=0.05) or percentage improvement (p=0.3). Based on these findings, it is suggested that role-playing method is effective in achieving student-learning outcomes regardless of their status as active or observer.

PENINGKATAN KETERAMPILAN BERBICARA MENGGUNAKAN METODE BERMAIN PERAN SISWA KELAS V SD NEGERI 05 GURUNG

This research aims to describe speaking skills in fifth grade elementary school students using the role playing method. This research conducted by qualitative approach through classroom action research. The subjects in this research were fifth grade students at SD Negeri 05 Gurung. Data collection uses observation and interview techniques. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data display, and drawing/conclusions. The results of the research stated that speaking skills with the aspects assessed in the test, namely aspects of pronunciation, intonation and vocabulary, after applying the role-playing method in thematic learning increased by an average of 16.7 points from the average in cycle I of 68.3 to 85 at the end cycle II. These results also indicate an increase of 40% in learning completion from 60% of students who completed in cycle I to 100% completion in cycle II. So the use of the role playing method is very suitable as a learning method. Students also responded in the very good category to the use of role playing methods in thematic learning. Thus, the role playing method is able to improve speaking skills in fifth grade elementary school students, and is recommended for use in learning speaking skills.

Penguatan Keterampilan Komunikasi dan Kepercayaan Diri Melalui Public Speaking: Penerapan Metode Presentasi dan Bermain Peran di Kalangan Siswa SMP

Public speaking is an essential skill that should be mastered by all individuals, including middle school students, as it is valuable not only in academic settings but also in social and professional contexts. This community service initiative aims to enhance public speaking skills and boost the confidence of middle school students through a combination of presentation and role-playing methods. The training consisted of a series of sessions where students were given opportunities to prepare and deliver structured presentations, as well as practice speaking in simulated, real-life scenarios. The results of the program showed significant improvement in both the verbal and non-verbal communication skills of the students. Those who initially lacked confidence became more capable of organizing effective presentations, utilizing appropriate body language, and responding to their audience effectively. Additionally, the training helped students overcome anxiety associated with public speaking, increasing their courage to speak in front of others. While some students may still require a more personalized approach, the overall methods proved to be effective in developing public speaking skills. This training is expected to provide long-term benefits in students' soft skill development and could serve as a sustainable program within schools.

The Effect Students Recording Project as the Learning Material of the Roleplay Technique toward Students Speaking Skill

Speaking is a very important skill for students, and role-playing is recommended to improve it. This study investigated how role-playing exercises supported by video recordings affect students' speaking ability in various contexts. This study involved 24 students in a vocational school in Karawang as the research sample using a pre-experimental method of one group pre-test and post-test design. The results of t-test for each speaking component were obtained using SPSS. Pronunciation has p-value of 0.698 &gt; 0.050, grammar 0.775 &gt; 0.050, vocabulary 0.775 &gt; 0.050, fluency 0.673 &gt; 0.050, and comprehension 0.350 &gt; 0.050. With an average pre-test score of 52.43 and a post-test score of 73.06, this study concluded that role-playing exercises, when supported by video recordings, significantly improve students' overall speaking ability. The findings in this study were that many students were more interested in using the role-playing method with a video record of their project. Where they can see directly the results of their role play, and discuss together the aspects of speaking that are still lacking.

The main problem in this research is how the application of the role playing method affects the learning outcomes of speaking skills for class III MIN 3 Selayar Islands. This research aims to determine the effect of applying the role-playing method on the speaking skills learning outcomes for class III MIN 3 Selayar Islands. This research uses a quantitative approach with an experimental type of research, meaning the experimental method is to study the influence of certain variables on other variables, through trials. under specially created conditions. To analyze the data that will be obtained from the research results, descriptive and inferential statistical analysis will be used. The data collected in the form of pretest scores and posttest scores were then compared. The results of the research show that Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted, meaning that there is an influence of the use of the role-playing method on the speaking ability of Class 3 MIN 3 Selayar Islands students. The test results show that there are differences in scores in students' speaking abilities before and after learning the role-playing method.
