Growth and ripening of berry grapesBerry enlargement shows a characteristical double‐sigmoid curve. It can be shown that there was an increase up to a maximum in the amount of endogenous auxin and cytokinin during the period of the first berry growth and a sudden decrease after having attained a short stop of berry growth. Accumulation of sugars in the fruits begins during period I1 of growth enlargement, at the same time the content of ABA increases. Possible relations between phytohormonal regulation of berry growth and the role of plant hormones as to translocation of carbohydrates from the leaves into the berries are discussed.
