Exposure to community violence as a mechanism linking neighborhood disadvantage to amygdala reactivity and the protective role of parental nurturance.

Emerging literature links neighborhood disadvantage to altered neural function in regions supporting socioemotional and threat processing. Few studies, however, have examined the proximal mechanisms through which neighborhood disadvantage is associated with neural functioning. In a sample of 7- to 19-year-old twins recruited from disadvantaged neighborhoods (354 families, 708 twins; 54.5% boys; 78.5% White, 13.0% Black, 8.5% other racial/ethnic group membership), we found that exposure to community violence was related to increased amygdala reactivity during socioemotional processing and may be one mechanism linking neighborhood disadvantage to amygdala functioning. Importantly, parenting behavior appeared to modulate these effects, such that high parental nurturance buffered the effect of exposure to community violence on amygdala reactivity. These findings elucidate the potential impact of exposure to community violence on brain function and highlight the role parents can play in protecting youth from the neural effects of exposure to adversity. Understanding the role of childhood nurture, abuse, and stability on gestational diabetes in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults study (CARDIA)

BackgroundTo estimate associations between facets of the maternal childhood family environment with gestational diabetes (GDM) and to test mediation by pre-pregnancy waist circumference. MethodsWe used data from CARDIA, a cohort of individuals aged 18–30 years at baseline (1985–86), followed over 30 years (2016). We included participants with one or more pregnancies ≥ 20 weeks after baseline, without pre-pregnancy diabetes. The primary exposure was the Childhood Family Environment Scale (assessed year 15), including the total score and abuse, nurture, and stability subscales as continuous, separate exposures. The outcome was GDM (self-reported at each visit for each pregnancy). We fit log binomial models with generalized estimating equations to calculate risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), adjusting for age at delivery, parity, race (Black or White), and parental education. We used regression models with bootstrapped CIs to test mediation and effect modification by excess abdominal adiposity at the last preconception CARDIA visit (waist circumference ≥ 88 cm). ResultsWe included 1033 individuals (46% Black) with 1836 pregnancies. 130 pregnancies (7.1%) were complicated by GDM. For each 1 point increase on the abuse subscale (e.g., from “rarely or never” to “some or little of the time”) there was a 30% increased risk of GDM (RR: 1.3, 95% CI: 1.0, 1.7). There was evidence of effect modification but not mediation by preconception abdominal adiposity. ConclusionsA more adverse childhood family environment was associated with increased risk of GDM, with a stronger association among individuals with preconception waist circumference ≥ 88 cm.

“Fatherman” On the Move: Social Transformation Strategy in Indonesian Family Education

“Fatherlessness” has long been a worldwide issue and social trend of our time. Research suggests that high-risk children in single-parent homes have nearly five times greater chance of developing mood disorders than those in co-parenting households. This article discusses “Fatherman”, an agency that voices the vital role of fathers in becoming psychological heroes for their children. The study aims to explore the strategy of the “Fatherman” agency in educating parents in Indonesia and to understand how “Fatherman”’s initiatives relate to gender roles and their broader impact on Indonesian society. This study employed a qualitative research approach by utilizing the content analysis method on several “Fatherman” social media accounts and books. The findings of this study revealed that the strategy adopted by the founders of the “Fatherman” account, namely Ustadz Bendri Jaisyurrahman and Ayah Irwan Rinaldi, makes fathers aware of their important role in the domestic sphere. This can be seen from the testimonials of online course participants, followers of the “Fatherman” account, and readers of the “Fatherman” books. Furthermore, the understanding of fatherhood has changed over time. Fatherhood has always been a multifaceted concept, from just being a provider (nafaqah) to becoming a role model for children, giving marital support, and nurturing. Based on a gender perspective, “Fatherman” still seems ambiguous and semi-patriarchal. The fundamental barrier is that masculinity, as currently constructed, becomes a tension for men to be fully involved in nurturing and household work. While “Fatherman” aims to encourage fathers to actively engage in parenting, they advertently reinforce gender superiority or perpetuate traditional gender roles. The social transformation that “Fatherman” offers is a changing perception of a father’s role in nurturing. Certainly, there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution to the fatherlessness crisis in Indonesia today. However, “Fatherman” agency will be one of the leading voices in providing an understanding of the father’s role.

Goddess, Guru, and Sanghajanani: The Authority and Ongoing Appeal of the Holy Mother Sarada Devi

Saradamani Mukhopadhyay (1853–1920), more widely known as Sarada Devi and, to her devotees, the Holy Mother, presents an illuminating case study of the various means by which, in many respects, a highly traditional and typical rural Hindu woman of her time, operating from within the categories of Bengali Hindu society, was able to navigate these categories in ways that did not undermine, but rather enhanced, her agency, enabling her to shape her social reality in creative and transformative ways. Inhabiting the traditional role of mother and nurturer while carrying it out in a highly non-traditional manner, Sarada Devi played a central, often behind-the-scenes, role as a major influencer of an important modern Hindu spiritual movement—indeed, the first such movement to be able to boast an international following. Having no biological children of her own, Sarada Devi became the mother to this movement and to the monastic order dedicated to carrying forward the vision of her husband, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa (1836–1886), as interpreted both by herself and his disciples, the most prominent of whom was Swami Vivekananda (1863–1902), who is well known for having brought Ramakrishna’s teachings to the Western world through his lectures in America, including at the World Parliament of Religions held in Chicago in 1893 and his founding of the first Vedanta Societies, starting in New York in 1894.

Religion cannot be separated from the culture in which it develops. This study uses discourse analysis about Buddhism and local culture. The method used in this study is Discourse Analysis. Namely a study methodology that focuses on the use of texts used in social and cultural contexts to communicate meaning. In the study "Buddhism and Local Cultures," discourse analysis is used to understand how Buddhism's teachings and practices are discussed and translated in specific local cultures. The research results show that Buddhism has a long history of interacting and adapting to various local cultures throughout the world. In the process, Buddhism not only exerted influence on local culture, but was also influenced and enriched by it. Central Buddhist principles such as tolerance, openness, and respect for diversity, allow him to embrace and nurture local cultures, while maintaining the core of his teachings. However, Buddhism also seeks to critically assess aspects of local culture that may conflict with its basic teachings. Thus, in interacting with local culture, Buddhism practices a balanced approach between adaptation and maintaining core values. This reflects how Buddhism plays an active role in nurturing and nurturing local culture, while ensuring that its central principles are respected and maintained

Pengaruh Keterlibatan Orang Tua terhadap Kesiapan Belajar pada Anak di TK Al-Amien Jember

Parents have a crucial role in nurturing, supporting, and educating their children. In reality, Retnaningtya & Pararamitha (2015) found that most parents only make minimal efforts to control and educate their children's development, with very few being significantly involved in their children's education. The aim of this research is to determine the influence of parental involvement on children's readiness to learn at TK Al-Amien Jember. This research employs a descriptive quantitative method. The total population is 271, with 142 parents as the sample, representing all the students at TK Al-Amien Jember. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling. Data collection utilizes two scales adapted and modified from the parental involvement scale by Hoover-Dempsey and Sandler (2005), consisting of 21 items, and the readiness to learn scale by Slameto (2010), consisting of 20 items. The analysis method involves testing the measurement tool, assumptions, and hypotheses using SPSS for Windows version 21 and MS Excel 2010. The correlation coefficient results indicate a 0.275 correlation between parental involvement and readiness to learn, with a two-tailed Sig value of 0.000. The findings show a positive relationship between parental involvement and readiness to learn. This suggests that the higher the parental involvement, the higher the children's readiness to learn, and conversely, lower parental involvement results in lower readiness to learn in children.

"The place it puts us in emotionally and relationally with our child, it's damaging": understanding the real-world psychosocial needs of caregivers of childhood cancer survivors.

Understanding the lived experiences of childhood cancer caregivers can guide the development of effective psychosocial models of care. We conducted this qualitative study to understand triggers that impact the mental health, quality of life, and mental health supportive care needs of caregivers. A maximum variation sampling strategy was used to recruit study participants for semi-structured interviews. Using a grounded theory approach, transcripts were independently dual-coded using inductive thematic analysis. We conducted a secondary thematic analysis emphasizing the impact of pediatric oncology on caregiver mental health. Our findings highlight caregiver experiences connected to their child's appearance, quality of life, or change in behavior. Caregivers reported the need to transition between the role of nurturer and protector and simultaneously be part of the care team, which increased trauma for caregivers and their children. Caregivers noted that the hardest part of being a caregiver is witnessing, participating, and forcing the child to comply with cancer treatment. Caregivers were left wishing there had been more support for these situations. Our findings reveal real-world experiences that caregivers view as among the most stressful during their child's cancer journey. These events provide insight into the nuanced and most difficult experiences from the caregiver perspective in which emotional support services would be most useful. These insights will inform a future model for mental healthcare. Caregivers' treatment-related stress is associated with the quality of life of pediatric cancer patients. Supporting the mental health, quality of life, and mental health supportive care needs of childhood cancer caregivers through supportive care guidelines may positively impact the caregiver-child relationship long into survivorship.Children's and their caregivers' treatment-related stress are indelibly connected to the quality of life concerns throughout the cancer journey. Measuring Parenting Self-Efficacy from Pregnancy into Early Childhood: Longitudinal Factor Analysis and Measurement Invariance

SYNOPSIS Objective. Parenting self-efficacy is an important and widely examined construct in parenting research. Yet, studies that thoroughly assess the psychometrics properties of scales that assess parenting self-efficacy are scarce. We examined the longitudinal factor structure and measurement invariance of a self-report measure of parenting self-efficacy. Design. A sample of 1,851 first-time mothers completed the 16-item Self-Efficacy in the Nurturing Role questionnaire at 12, 22, and 32 weeks gestation and 3, 12, and 24 months postnatal. Results. Factor analyses indicated that the SENR consisted of two dimensions at all timepoints: Confidence in parenting skills and Lack of insecurity/distress in the parenting role. Strict measurement invariance was found for the SENR across prenatal timepoints, but only metric measurement invariance across postnatal timepoints. Conclusions. Parenting self-efficacy is a multidimensional construct, consisting of cognitive and emotionally laden appraisals of the ability to parent. Across the transition into motherhood, as mothers gain more experience in their parenting role, parenting self-efficacy levels and the way mothers answer the questions that assess parenting self-efficacy change.

A Study on Perception of Entrepreneurs on Entrepreneurship Development Program

Entrepreneurship development programs play a crucial role in nurturing and supporting aspiring entrepreneurs, providing them the necessary skills, knowledge and resources to succeed in the dynamic business environment. This study aims to examine the perception of entrepreneurs towards Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDPs) analyze the relationship between demographic variables of the respondents and their perception of EDPs. The research employed a random sampling method to select participants from the target population. Primary data was collected through a survey administered to 100 respondents who planned to enroll in an EDP program. The data was analyzed using frequency analysis, chi-square testing, and the two-tailed t-test to understand the perception of the respondents towards EDPs. The findings of this study will provide insights into the perception of entrepreneurs regarding EDPs and identify any significant associations between demographic variables and their perception of the programs. The results will contribute to the understanding of how entrepreneurs perceive the effectiveness and relevance of EDPs in their entrepreneurial journey.

Research on the construction and sustainable development of online teaching model for universities based on deep learning

Abstract The worldwide outbreak and pandemic of the New Crown Pneumonia epidemic in 2020 spawned changes in higher education, the most obvious of which was the shift from offline to online teaching models. In this paper, we view online teaching practice activities during the epidemic as a complete dissemination process and systematically study online teaching models in higher education based on convolutional neural network theory. By interpreting the interview records of 100 university teachers interviewed, we can get that 34% of teachers consider themselves as the role of sharers, 29% consider themselves as the leader of students on the learning path, and 24% consider themselves as the role of nurturer for students. Meanwhile, dozens more teachers positioned themselves in various roles that distinguished them from their usual educator roles. From the above data, we can see that the online teaching model has promoted the transformation of teachers’ roles, which is conducive to the development of online teaching and more conducive to promoting the sustainable development of online teaching.

The hectic problem of decreasing character education, especially student manners and decency and high juvenile delinquency in the world of formal education does not affect the existence of Islamic boarding schools as educational institutions that excel in the moral education of their students, with more and more people looking at Islamic boarding schools to educate children's character and morals. they. This certainly cannot be separated from the role of the teacher, caregiver or supervisor of the students. Mrs. Nyai is one of the figures who has a role in nurturing, educating and guiding Santri, especially female Santri. Departing from this phenomenon, this study aims to find out what the meaning of the figure of Mrs. Nyai is for Santriwati at the Al-I'tishom Karawang Islamic Boarding School. This research method uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, because researchers are trying to find out the phenomenon of the meaning of Mrs. Nyai for Santriwati based on the experience and role of Mrs. Nyai in Islamic boarding schools. The theory used in this study is the theory of symbolic interaction and the data obtained by this research were generated through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that Santriwati interprets the figure of Mrs. Nyai as a teacher as well as a parent at the Islamic Boarding School. Based on her communication experience, Santriwati interprets the figure of Mrs. Nyai as a person who is friendly, kind-hearted, has a high sense of sympathy, firm and wise.

Framework for the architecture of exoplanetary systems

In the first paper of this series, we proposed a model-independent framework for characterising the architecture of planetary systems at the system level. There are four classes of planetary system architecture: similar, mixed, anti-ordered, and ordered. In this paper, we investigate the formation pathways leading to these four architecture classes. To understand the role of nature versus nurture in sculpting the final (mass) architecture of a system, we apply our architecture framework to synthetic planetary systems – formed via core-accretion – using the Bern model. General patterns emerge in the formation pathways of the four architecture classes. Almost all planetary systems emerging from protoplanetary disks whose initial solid mass was less than one Jupiter mass are similar. Systems emerging from heavier disks may become mixed, anti-ordered, or ordered. Increasing dynamical interactions (planet–planet, planet–disk) tends to shift a system’s architecture from mixed to anti-ordered to ordered. Our model predicts the existence of a new metallicity–architecture correlation. Similar systems have very high occurrence around low-metallicity stars. The occurrence of the anti-ordered and ordered classes increases with increasing metallicity. The occurrence of mixed architecture first increases and then decreases with increasing metallicity. In our synthetic planetary systems, the role of nature is disentangled from the role of nurture. Nature (or initial conditions) pre-determines whether the architecture of a system becomes similar; otherwise nurture influences whether a system becomes mixed, anti-ordered, or ordered. We propose the ‘Aryabhata formation scenario’ to explain some planetary systems which host only water-rich worlds. We finish this paper with a discussion of future observational and theoretical works that may support or refute the results of this paper.

Higher Education Institutions Role in Nurturing and Strengthening MSME’s and Start- Up India Enterprises for Greater contribution to Indian Economy

National educational policy -2022 focusing on 5+3+3+4 education system then the gross enrollment ratio to higher education will gradually decline over period of time. The higher education institutions are required focus for their survival and existence, for more than three decades’ higher education institutions (HEI) have enjoyed privilege and served to certain extent in providing higher education. However, particularly management school affiliated to universities and autonomous business school are going to face big challenges and problems enrollment to management education, significantly management education institutions will fade away. This article suggests the solutions to the problems that faced by MSME’s and Start Up India enterprises through various initiative are recommended in the article. The solution to above problem recommends that, higher education institutions need to focus on for their survival through very selective services first one, offering research services, consultancy services, training services and teaching to practitioners working in various MSME’s. Secondly, offering fellow program in management- full time and part-time, Executive Fellow program in management, third, innovative courses to serve the industry(MSME’s). Further, these initiatives by higher education institutions create a win-win situation for higher education institutions and MSME’s.

The professions in a comprehensive context: A two-tier framework

This article proposes the expansion of the definition and scope of a “profession” to explicitly incorporate issues of ethics, equity, environment and philanthropy to meet the demands of the 21st century. Governing bodies (professional designations, certificates and licensures) that develop and advance fields of study are tasked with updating the profession’s institutional knowledge, professional standards and best practices. The proposed two-tier framework elevates the significance of learning about the best practices for effectively applying ethical standards, achieving equity, protecting the environment and embracing philanthropy (tier 2) to the level of required technical knowledge (tier 1) in the field. Institutions of higher education have a critical role in nurturing and disseminating this broader two-tier framework early in the education of professionals of the future. Government agencies can directly and indirectly contribute to these efforts by providing resources and incentives. More importantly going forward, expanding the definition of a profession can only produce better-rounded leaders who will be more comprehensively prepared to take on global complex challenges. Adopting the framework will benefit professionals, the professions, employers, the community and the environment.

Maternal postnatal depression and offspring depression at age 24 years in a UK-birth cohort: the mediating role of maternal nurturing behaviours concerning feeding, crying and sleeping.

Background: Maternal postnatal depression (PND) is a risk factor for offspring depression in adulthood. However, few longitudinal studies have examined the role of maternal nurturing parenting behaviours in the association between maternal PND and offspring depression in adulthood. Methods: We examined pathways from maternal PND measured using self-reported Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale at 8 weeks to offspring ICD-10 depression diagnosed using the Clinical Interview Schedule-Revised computerised assessment at 24 years through maternal-reported nurturing behaviours concerning feeding, sleeping and crying measured from pregnancy to age 3 years 6 months in 5,881 members of the UK-based birth cohort study, the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children. Results: The fully adjusted model revealed an indirect effect from PND to adult offspring depression through the combination of all parenting factors (probit regression coefficient [ B]=0.038, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.005, 0.071); however, there was no evidence of a direct effect from early maternal PND to offspring depression once the indirect effect via parenting factors was accounted for ( B=0.009, 95%CI -0.075, 0.093). Specificity analyses revealed indirect effects through maternal worries about feeding ( B=0.019, 95%CI 0.003, 0.035, p=0.010) and maternal perceptions and responses to crying ( B=0.018, 95%CI 0.004, 0.032, p=0.012). Conclusions: The adverse impact of maternal PND on offspring depression in early adulthood was explained by maternal nurturing behaviours concerning feeding, crying and sleeping in early childhood. Residual confounding and measurement error likely limit reliable conclusions. If found causal, interventions providing support to reduce worries around maternal nurturing behaviours and treating depression could reduce adverse outcomes in adult offspring of depressed mothers.

An integrative approach for identification of smoking-related genes involving bladder cancer.

Tobacco smoking is one of the most important environmental risk factors involving bladder tumorigenesis. However, smoking-related genes in bladder carcinogenesis and corresponding genetic effects on bladder cancer risk remain unclear. Weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) underlying transcriptome of bladder cancer tissues was applied to identify smoking-related genes. The logistic regression model was utilized to estimate genetic effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in smoking-related genes on bladder cancer risk in the Chinese and European populations with a total of 6510 cases and 6569 controls, as well as the interaction with smoking status. Transcriptome of cells and tissues was used to profile the expression pattern of candidate genes and their genetic variants. Our results demonstrated that a total of 24 SNPs in 14 smoking-related genes were associated with the risk of bladder cancer, of which rs9348451 in CDKAL1 exhibited an interaction with smoking status (ORinteraction = 1.38, Pinteraction = 1.08 × 10-2) and tobaccosmoking might combine with CDKAL1 rs9348451 to increase the risk of bladder cancer (Ptrend = 4.27 × 10-4). Moreover, rs9348451 was associated with CDKAL1 expression in bladder cancer, especially in smokers (P < 0.001). Besides, CDKAL1 was upregulated in bladder cancer compared to normal adjacent tissues, as well as upregulated via treatment of cigarette smoke extracts. This study highlights the important role of nurture and nature, as well as their interaction on tumorigenesis, which provides a new way to decipher the etiology of bladder cancer with smoking status.

The measurement of the validity of the pattern of the realization and growth of love and its role in the emotional nurturing of young people

Aim: This research aimed to validate a pattern for the realization and growth of love and its role in emotional nurturing from the perspective of existentialism philosophers and its review based on the opinions of Muslim philosophers for the document of transformation in the education system. Methods: This research method is a kind of mixed-method. In the first stage, using data mining, it has extracted the factors and components related to the research topic in the works of existentialism philosophers, and in the second stage, it has interviewed ten experts in the field of education by employing the Delphi method. Finally, the opinions of experts were collected from the perspective of existentialism philosophy and Muslim philosophers regarding the indicators extracted in the design and validation of the pattern of realization and growth of love and its role in emotional nurturing. Results: According to the extracted model, the following factors were evaluated by experts in the form of a questionnaire and in several stages. The factors included Christian (divine) love, task-orientation, negation of natural love, negation of selfishness, love for others, divine love, existential unity, awareness, ignoring the distracting exteriors, coming out of oneself, love for God aspects in others. Conclusion: Regarding that the difference between the averages is more than 0.2, the results of fuzzy data analysis indicated that the stages of the distribution of the questionnaire and the average of the opinions of experts were calculated once again. And since the difference between the averages of the third and fourth questionnaires was below 0.2, it can be concluded that there is a good consensus among the experts, and the results of the four stages of the fuzzy Delphi process confirmed the accuracy and validity of the results.

Analyzing informal value transfer networks through the lens of social exchanges

PurposeThis study aims to focus on how informal value transfer networks, Hawala business in particular, used social exchanges in their business dealings. More specifically, the conducted research looked into how social exchange theory was used in Hawala business relationship initiation and management.Design/methodology/approachTwenty-one depth interviews were conducted with Hawala Network members, and Hawala customers, in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The collected qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis and NVivo 11 software.FindingsThe study outcome indicated that Social Exchange Theory was a principal relationship driver in Hawala Networks. Especially, trust had a pivotal role in evolvement and nurturing of Hawala Network business and social exchanges. Other relationship variables, namely, reciprocity, religious affiliation, reputation and information sharing had a significant part in relationship building as well. Results supported a prominent influence of time in carefully controlled and rigorously assessed transformation of Hawala relationships. This metamorphosis converted an exchange from short-term into a long-term orientation where limited amount transactions changed into large sum transactions and restricted information exchange moved to elaborate information sharing. In addition, findings revealed that monetary and non-monetary interactions between Hawala Network members took the form of a homogeneous club, with shared social, cultural, religious and ethnic values. In particular, financially constrained and illiterate social groups preferred Hawala services due to ease of servicing in the form of minimal bureaucracy, fast transfers and low service charges. These marginalized fractions of society had limited access to formal banking which made Hawala business their main (and in most cases only) source for sending and receiving financial remittances. Hawala Networks provided an effective alternative to formal banking for disadvantaged communities.Originality/valueThis study provided unique and useful insights into the nature of social exchanges within Hawala Networks. Especially, it provided clarification on how informal networked businesses used Social Exchange Theory to by-pass the need for legal protection and formal contracts. Furthermore, the study highlighted the role Hawala business played in providing essential banking services (e.g. transfer of money and micro-lending) to educationally and economically deprived individuals.
