Gender aspects must be part of pharmacology teaching. Pharmacology offers a wealth of examples that prove on the one hand that sex and gender aspects of drug therapy are clinically relevant and on the other hand show that there are still striking omissions in pharmacological research and drug approval. And we should not forget that drug therapy is more than just applied pharmacology and includes, for example doctor-patient communication in the context of a prescription conversation. Moreover, it is not only that sex can make differences in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics and thus in drug therapy-sex and gender can also play a role in (medical) education. Finally, gender-related discrimination continues to be a problem in our society and universities have set themselves the task of having an impact on society as the so-called "third mission". Pharmacology and drug therapy are excellent for working not only on this mission but also on creating awareness among future physicians of the importance of fair and appropriate consideration of sex and gender in medicine and society.

Anatomy plays a vital role in medical education, serving as a fundamental basis for understanding various medical disciplines, conducting physical examinations, and interpreting medical imaging. Furthermore, a solid grasp of anatomy is essential for the effective implementation of first-aid procedures. The objective of this research was to investigate the relationship between medical students' performance in anatomy and first-aid courses, as well as to assess students' perspectives on the significance of anatomy in first-aid practices. Over the course of 3 academic years, 2 online surveys were administered to students prior to the commencement of the first-aid course. The 1st survey measured their knowledge of anatomy, while the 2nd evaluated their attitudes toward the relevance of anatomy in first aid. The attitude survey was subsequently readministered at the conclusion of the first-aid course. The findings revealed a significant correlation between the scores obtained in the anatomy knowledge test and those achieved in the first-aid course. While the initial attitude survey indicated a positive outlook among students, with a preference for higher response scales, the follow-up results showed a decrease in the selection of higher scales and an increase in the selection of lower scales. Although these shifts were not statistically significant, they suggest that the first-aid course may not have adequately emphasized the importance of anatomical knowledge. Despite students recognizing the relevance of anatomy in first aid, there is an opportunity to strengthen this connection more effectively within the framework of first-aid instruction.

Introduction Professional identity shapes the effectiveness, motivation, and well-being of allied health clinical educators (CEs). Burnout, characterised by emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and reduced personal accomplishment, can undermine these outcomes, diminishing both teaching quality and educator retention. While burnout in healthcare professionals is well documented, limited research has explored its relationship with educator identity among allied health professionals (AHPs), particularly in Asian contexts. This study examines the interrelationship between burnout, job satisfaction, and educator identity among AHP CEs, and identifies contextual factors that influence these experiences. Methods An exploratory qualitative study was conducted across multiple healthcare institutions in Singapore using a constructivist paradigm. Sixteen AHP CEs representing diverse disciplines participated in semi structured focus group discussions guided by Maslach and Jackson’s burnout framework. Data were analysed thematically through iterative coding and team based discussion to identify recurrent patterns and relational dynamics between burnout and educator identity. Results Participants described burnout as a multifaceted experience influenced by workload pressures, limited institutional recognition, and insufficient protected time for educational work. Contributing factors included inadequate career pathways and constrained access to faculty development. A strong sense of educator identity and job satisfaction emerged as protective buffers, whereas weak identification with the educator role appeared to heighten burnout risk. Supportive communities of practice and organisational cultures that value teaching were key in sustaining motivation and professional fulfilment. Discussion These findings underscore the need for systemic and institutional strategies to strengthen the educator identity of AHP CEs. Enhancing professional recognition, fostering collegial support, and promoting meaningful engagement in education may mitigate burnout and sustain a resilient allied health education workforce.

The article analyzes the progressive role of higher education in ensuring economic growth and sustainable development of the state, especially in conditions of crises and dynamic changes in the world landscape. It is emphasized that in order to overcome crisis phenomena and build an innovative economy, it is necessary to significantly increase the educational level of the population, as well as use the experience of highly developed countries, in particular in the field of qualified migration. The author notes that the traditional model of education, focused on the transfer of knowledge, is insufficient to solve the complex problems of sustainable development. Based on his own pedagogical experience, the thesis is put forward about the need for higher education institutions to transition from simple informing to the formation of competencies on the basis of interdisciplinarity, action orientation and value aspect. The central part of the study is the analysis and justification of innovative pedagogical approaches that effectively integrate the principles of sustainable development into the teaching of psychological and pedagogical disciplines. The scientific research is focused on the implementation of effective innovative approaches to teaching psychological and pedagogical disciplines in higher education institutions through the prism of sustainable development, namely: project-based learning (PBL), service-learning, gamification and simulations, and the use of ICT. Examples of educational and creative tasks for students of the specialty «Preschool Education» are given, which are used when teaching professional psychological and pedagogical disciplines and are aimed at solving problems of sustainable development.

Background: Recovery is an emerging approach. In Chile, attempts are being made to introduce the Recovery Model with specific guidelines for the care of people diagnosed with Severe Mental Disorders. The participation of nurses in this process is peripheral to the biomedical model. Objectives: To explore the participation of nurses in the recovery process of people hospitalised in Psychiatric Intensive Care between 2023 and 2024. Methods: Qualitative research, collective-case multisite study design in four hospitals. With the approval of four ethics committees, 18 nurses who signed informed consent were interviewed. Rapid qualitative analysis was performed. Results: Nursing care is mainly related to the caregiving, educational, and management roles. Recovery is associated with clinical improvement, and different components are identified, such as family and social support, the ability to resume control of one’s life, the existence of a future life plan, and the ability to manage one’s own illness. Conclusions: The results are consistent with elements described in contemporary approaches to recovery, incorporating autonomy, confidence in the person’s abilities, and shared decision-making. However, they are still far from modern approaches to personal and non-clinical recovery. Nursing needs to redirect its efforts toward recovery with a paradigm shift toward a model in which the person affected by a mental health condition is the protagonist of their own health process.

The U.S. Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system faces persistent workforce shortages. Thousands of military personnel transition out of service each year with EMS-related training, yet little is known about their roles or willingness to pursue civilian EMS careers. Despite low national unemployment rates among veterans, many remain underutilized in healthcare occupations. We aim to describe the current roles of nationally certified military EMS clinicians and assess their interest in transitioning to civilian EMS employment. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of National Registry-certified EMS clinicians actively serving in the U.S. military. Respondents recertifying between October 2021 and April 2022 were invited to complete a voluntary, one-time survey. The analytic sample included military-affiliated clinicians aged 18-85 who reported an EMS job role and responded to a question about interest in civilian EMS transition. Descriptive statistics multivariable Poisson regression with robust standard errors were used to characterize EMS roles and identify factors associated with transition interest. Referent groups for categorical variables were selected based on the subgroup with the largest number of respondents. Among 1,937 included respondents, the median age was 32 years (interquartile range: 27-40), and most were male (66.6%) and White, non-Hispanic (58.3%). Respondents represented all major military branches, with the largest proportion from the Air Force (60.3%). Most held emergency medical technician certification (82.5%). Overall, 60.5% expressed interest in civilian EMS employment after separation. Transition interest was highest among clinicians in the Army (prevalence ratio: 1.23; 95% confidence interval: 1.11-1.36), Navy (1.31; 1.17-1.45), and Coast Guard (1.13; 1.01-1.27) compared to the Air Force. Those in educational or non-traditional roles had higher prevalence of interest than those in hospital-based roles, while older clinicians had significantly lower prevalence of interest. Findings from this convenience sample suggest that a substantial portion of military EMS clinicians, particularly younger personnel and those affiliated with the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard, may be interested in transitioning to civilian EMS roles. While not representative of all military EMS personnel, these patterns highlight the potential utility of structured veteran-to-civilian EMS pathways. Future research using more representative sampling strategies is needed to confirm these trends and inform workforce development efforts.

Purpose This study aims to explore the current state of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) in the workplace and discuss a potential digital divide in relation to genAI. Design/methodology/approach Using a quantitative approach, we study career-relevant predictors – family socio-economic status, education and work characteristics – and their relationship with different indicators of digital divide – access, genAI use, attitude toward AI and perceived AI literacy. To test our hypothesis, we used logistic and linear regression analyses. Additionally, latent profile analysis was conducted to identify patterns regarding work characteristics within the sample. Findings Among the 1,341 participants, 326 individuals were genAI users. Our results show that higher family socio-economic status, education and enriched and demanding work can be linked to a more positive attitude toward AI and higher perceived AI literacy. In the case of access and frequency of use, the results were mixed. Originality/value Our findings offer a novel contribution by examining a potentially upcoming digital divide in the case of genAI. We focus on how the career adaptation of the workforce might develop in the age of genAI. Importantly, we highlight that not all individuals may have an equal opportunity to adapt to genAI, which could hinder their future career development and reinforce patterns of inequality. Future research should address how to promote inclusivity and consider individual differences in adapting to genAI.

The phenomenon of online gambling among students has become a serious concern in today's digital era. Although religious education has been taught in schools, the reality is that many students do not fully understand the negative impact of online gambling practices. Previous studies have focused more on students or adolescents in general, without highlighting the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in shaping student understanding at the Vocational High School (SMK) level. This is a research gap that needs to be bridged through more contextual and applicative studies. This study aims to reveal the extent of students' understanding of online gambling and analyze the strategies used by PAI teachers in strengthening awareness of the dangers of this behavior. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with a case study design, located at SMK PGRI Sooko Mojokerto. Data collection techniques include observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which are then analyzed using interactive models from Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results show that students' understanding of online gambling is mostly obtained from social media and the friendly environment, with an initial understanding that tends to be permissive. However, after experiencing direct negative impacts, such as impaired learning focus, decreased motivation, and moral guilt, students' attitudes began to change towards rejection. On the other hand, PAI teachers apply educational strategies through contextual lectures, open dialogue, visualization of case studies, and spiritual strengthening through routine religious activities. This strategy is not only preventive, but also touches the emotional and spiritual aspects of students comprehensively. This study recommends strengthening collaboration between schools, parents, and external parties such as religious institutions and law enforcement in an effort to prevent online gambling practices. In addition, it is necessary to develop a PAI learning model that is more responsive to today's digital issues. The limitations of this study lie in the scope of a single location, so further research is recommended to involve more schools to expand the generalization of the findings.

Abstract Black women remain acutely underrepresented in senior leadership roles within higher education, often experiencing precarious appointments during times of institutional instability—a phenomenon known as the “glass cliff.” While existing research addresses the barriers to leadership access, limited scholarship explores what happens once Black women assume these high-risk roles. This study asks, “What are the lived experiences of Black women in high-level leadership roles in higher education, and how do they describe navigating workplace cultures shaped by the intersections of race and gender?” Using narrative inquiry, the researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with five Black women who have held high-level academic leadership positions. Participants were recruited through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were thematically analyzed using a five-step coding process, with multivocality and researcher reflexivity employed to ensure rigor. Findings revealed eight interrelated themes, including the impact of racial and gender identity on professional trajectories, limited mentorship and sponsorship, inequitable compensation, and persistent organizational cultures reflective of glass cliff conditions. Participants described feeling devalued, under-supported, and excluded from critical decision-making spaces. Despite these challenges, they demonstrated resilience and emphasized the importance of culturally affirming support systems, intentional recruitment practices, and transparent institutional cultures. This study contributes to higher education leadership literature by demonstrating how misogynoir and racialized organizational risk shape Black women’s leadership experiences post-appointment. The findings call for urgent structural reforms in recruitment, support, and retention strategies to ensure that Black women not only access leadership roles but are positioned to thrive within them.

Generative AI (GAI) is rapidly transforming the work processes of academic staff of higher education institutions (HEIs). Previous study focused on students’ use of GAI but the impact of GAI on faculty remains underexplored, especially in business schools in which there is a strategic importance in fostering innovation and developing future leaders. The integration of Generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, is revolutionizing how business educators carry out their work in business schools. This paper presents a scoping review of a structured literature search identifying a core canon of recent articles addressing how GAI is changing the work conducted in business schools of Higher Educational Institutions. Literature searches were conducted in Web of Science (WoS) and Education Resources Information Centre (ERIC) databases from 2019 to 2024, using tailored search terms encompassing GAI, academic staff, business education and HEIs. A total of 502 articles were identified, with 211 from WoS and 291 from ERIC. After several stages of manual screenings, 15 final articles were obtained for this scoping review. The findings of the analysis reveal that GAI tools have integrated in the four major teaching work processes in business education: Curriculum Design, Pedagogical Methods, Student Engagement and Interaction and Assessments. In addition, the study surprisingly figured out that much less emphasis was given to the research side of the duties of academic staff. Our findings suggest that, under the human-GAI collaboration in teaching work processes in business schools, the role of educators have changed to be: Quality Controller, Scenario Facilitator, Strategic Mentor and Ethical Gatekeeper for the four major teaching work. Future research should focus on discipline-specific study, empirical evaluations of teaching work processes at tool-specific level, and in different cultural context. More research should also be conducted on researching work processes and institutional administration. This study contributes to the discourse of digital transformation and the potential of human-GAI collaboration in higher education.

Objectives. To analyze the dynamics of health status among children in Ukraine based on preventive examination data over the past decade, with a focus on the prevalence of postural disorders, scoliosis, and visual and hearing impairments, as well as to identify challenges in teaching the discipline Physical Education among schoolchildren and students. Materials and Methods. The study relied on official statistical data from the Center for Medical Statistics of the Central Medical Education Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for 2013–2023. Bibliographic, epidemiological, medical-statistical, and analytical methods were applied. Results. Although most health indicators of the child population showed predominantly positive dynamics between 2013 and 2023, deterioration was observed in 2023 compared to the pre-war year 2021. In preschoolers, the prevalence of decreased visual acuity during the war rose by 24.1%, while the incidence of scoliosis increased 1.28-fold. Analysis across age groups (preschoolers, middle, and high school students) revealed a rise in pathology with age: postural disorders increased sixfold and decreased visual acuity 4.1-fold, indicating the negative impact of educational workload. The study highlights the role of physical activity, physical education, and sports in strengthening overall health and preventing or correcting posture and vision disorders. Conclusion. Given that regular physical education classes are not mandatory in higher education, greater emphasis should be placed on physical education in schools, with lessons made more engaging and diverse. Parents should also be informed about the value of regular physical activity for their children. Furthermore, physical education should be reinstated as a compulsory subject in higher education, with special attention to preparing boys physically for potential future service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

India is home to more than 150 zoological parks that play a vital role in biodiversity conservation, education, and tourism. However, these facilities generate considerable quantities of biodegradable waste daily, including animal manure, bedding litter, uneaten feed, and garden residues. Traditional disposal methods such as open dumping, incineration, or basic composting lead to foul odors, greenhouse gas emissions, and potential pathogen spread. In the Indian context, where climatic conditions and organic waste composition vary widely, integrated anaerobic digestion (AD) and composting systems have emerged as a sustainable and economically feasible strategy for zoo waste management. Anaerobic digestion produces renewable biogas energy, while composting of the digestate ensures safe stabilization and nutrient recycling. This review consolidates recent developments in India (2018–2025) related to integrated AD–composting technologies, focusing on the composition of zoo waste, process optimization, and environmental and economic outcomes. Case studies from the National Zoological Park (New Delhi), Mysuru Zoo (Karnataka), Nehru Zoological Park (Hyderabad) and Nandankanan Zoo (Bhubaneswar) demonstrate the feasibility of these systems. The review emphasizes that integrated waste-to-energy and composting models can reduce waste volume by up to 80%, achieve near-zero landfill disposal, and contribute to India’s national missions such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Waste to Wealth Programme. Challenges related to technology adoption, operational expertise, and policy implementation are also discussed, along with recommendations for future research and inter-institutional collaboration. Overall, the integration of anaerobic digestion and composting provides a sustainable, circular solution for managing zoo waste in India, aligning environmental stewardship with clean energy generation and nutrient recovery.

Digital skills represent a key dimension of digital transformation, shaping the innovation potential, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability of the European economy. The aim of this paper is to compare the development of digital skills in EU-27 countries from 2018 to 2024 and identify the strengths and weaknesses within the European context. The analysis is based on secondary data from the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI). From the total of 36 indicators included in DESI, 12 variables were selected, with an emphasis on 3 core digital-skills metrics: Internet use, ICT specialists, and ICT graduates. To assess their interrelationships and linkages with overall digital transformation performance, non-parametric correlation analyses (Kendall’s Tau and Spearman’s rank correlation) were applied. Furthermore, across-year nonparametric tests (Friedman ANOVA with Kendall’s coefficient of concordance, W) were used to evaluate year-to-year differences and the stability of country rankings over 2018–2024. The empirical results confirmed that higher levels of digital skills are associated with stronger digital transformation performance among EU member states, while significant cross-country disparities persist. Germany and the Nordic economies (Finland, Sweden, and Denmark) achieved the best results, while Southern and Eastern European countries such as Bulgaria, Portugal, and Greece lagged behind. These findings highlight the strategic role of digital education, ICT specialization, and lifelong learning initiatives in promoting sustainable digital transformation and competitiveness across Europe. In addition, panel regression analysis confirmed that digital infrastructure, particularly FTTP coverage and Very High Capacity Networks, is a key driver of digital skills development, whereas the effects of business digitalization appear indirect or delayed. The outcomes provide relevant implications for broadband deployment and user-centric digital public services to support the objectives of the EU Digital Decade 2030. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the determinants of digital skills and digital transformation performance, providing evidence-based guidance for targeted digital policies aimed at reducing the digital divide and strengthening digital transformation performance within the European Union.

ABSTRACT Access to higher education is considered an important avenue for upward social mobility. However, the question of which city to attend university and its influence on migration trajectories remains underexplored. Drawing on a 2022 survey of university graduates from eight Chinese cities, this study examines how the location of a university affects mobility within the urban hierarchy. The findings reveal that universities function as springboards in graduates’ migration trajectories. The study highlights the spatial role of universities in talent distribution, a process that is both shaped by and reinforces the hierarchical structure of the urban system.

Introduction: Tissue-mimicking materials play an integral role in clinical education through providing a controlled, risk-free environment for skill development. While commercially available phantoms enhance trainee proficiency and patient safety, their high cost and limited accessibility hinder widespread adoption. Consequently, clinical training often relies on supervised practice, constrained by logistical challenges and patient safety concerns. To address these limitations, ADAMgel was developed as a low-cost, non-toxic, and recyclable biomaterial designed to replicate human tissue properties [1]. Its successful integration into procedural training models highlights its potential as an effective simulation medium. ADAMgel offers several advantages, including versatility, affordability (<£2/kg), self-healing properties, bacterial resistance, and compatibility with diathermy and harmonic scalpels. Additionally, it closely mimics human tissue under ultrasound imaging, making it particularly valuable for sonography-based training. However, a lack of comprehensive mechanics data has restricted broader implementation in medical training. This study systematically evaluates the mechanical properties of six ADAMgel formulations to refine their suitability for simulation applications. Methods: Six formulations were prepared with varying concentrations of psyllium husk, glycol, antifoam, water, and gellan gum to assess their impact on mechanical performance. Each underwent standardised tests, including Ultimate Tensile Strength, Young’s modulus in both tensile and compression modes, and durability evaluations. All tests were conducted in triplicate to ensure statistical reliability on the 15/01/24, with data incorporated into mathematical models for analysis. Results: A controlled preparation protocol ensured consistency, facilitating reproducible comparisons. Mechanical properties varied significantly across formulations. V5 exhibited the highest ultimate tensile strength (1308.12 Pa) and compressive resistance (6540.60 Pa), indicating superior load-bearing capacity. In contrast, V1 demonstrated the lowest tensile resilience (687.5 Pa), reinforcing the inverse correlation between increased water content and structural integrity. Young’s modulus in tension revealed that V4 was the most rigid (4216.03 Pa), while V1 and Standard formulations displayed greater elasticity. Durability testing indicated no material degradation following cyclic loading, supporting ADAMgel’s durability for repeated use. Gum-based formulations (V5, V4) demonstrated enhanced mechanical stability, whereas lower-viscosity variants (V1, V3) showed greater deformability, making them suitable for applications requiring flexibility. The incorporation of gellan gum (V5) significantly improved tensile properties, highlighting its potential for load-bearing applications in surgical training. Discussion: These findings underscore ADAMgel’s adaptability and provide empirical data for optimising formulations to better mimic specific tissue types. Future research should focus on refining ADAMgel’s composition to bridge the gap between synthetic and biological tissue properties, further enhancing its efficacy in procedural training models. Ethics Statement: As the submitting author, I can confirm that all relevant ethical standards of research and dissemination have been met. Additionally, I can confirm that the necessary ethical approval has been obtained, where applicable.

ABSTRACT This study explores how an emotion-centred pedagogical intervention can promote the use of Basque among children and adolescents in multilingual residential care homes (RCH). The intervention integrates the Emotional and Conscious Translanguaging (ECT) approach with non-formal education, organised leisure, play, and informal speech. The participants – primarily new speakers acquiring Basque as L1 or L2 often lack opportunities to use the language spontaneously. Moreover, they seldom engage with it in emotionally meaningful ways. An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was employed, drawing on field journals from seven educators, evaluation notebooks from 72 participants, five semi-structured interviews, and a short quantitative questionnaire validated by five experts. The findings suggest that ECT supports Basque internalisation, reduces communicative anxiety, and increases motivation through informal emotional expression. Its integration into organised leisure activities proved effective across age groups, reinforcing the role of educators as emotional and linguistic referents and highlighting the importance of emotionally safe learning environments. Overall, the results indicate that affective approaches to minority language development have strong pedagogical potential in non-formal educational contexts. They also contribute to inclusive practices and to safeguarding children’s linguistic rights in multilingual, emotionally complex settings.
