Electrolytic scouring required prior to the electrodeposition of non-polymerizable phenols onto an iron oxide layer at low potentials can be accelerated by the addition of polyamines as iron complexing agents. The scouring ability of NH2(CH2)nNH2 diamines increases asn increases. Monoamines display a general tendency to delay electropolymerization.

Role of Amines in the Isomerization Reaction of Polycondensed Maleic Anhydride and Diethylene Glycol

Abstract Aniline and N-ethylaniline were used as model compounds to study the effect of aromatic primary and secondary amines on maleate-fumarate isomerization. Amines were added to the copolymerization reaction of maleic anhydride and diethylene glycol at different degrees of conversion (P). The effect of amines on the relative amount of isomerization was followed with proton NMR. The efficiency of fumarate production decreases in the order P = 0.62 > 0.76 > 0.35 > 0. Mechanisms to account for the effect of aniline and N-ethylaniline on the maleate-fumarate isomerization are outlined.

Abstract An attempt to elucidate the role of amines in general, and of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane in particular, has been made through a study of the title subject by several different approaches. This paper describes the interactions of amines during curing of the rubber phase. When aromatic or cyclic amines were added, maximum stress at break and minimum swelling ratios were observed when the number of alkoxide radicals generated was equal to the number of hydrogen atoms on the nitrogen of the amines. The order of reactivity was thus no amine > aniline > piperazine > m-phenylenediamine. The greatest effect of aliphatic amines also occurred when the concentration of primary amino groups was equal to the concentration of peroxide; but the behavior was complex and dependent on the backing against which samples were molded. A role for amines in the antidepressant effect of exercise: a review.

A review of the literature suggests that exercise may have antidepressant effects and, like other treatments for depression such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), antidepressant medication, and REM sleep deprivation, may enhance aminergic synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. In addition, the effects of exercise and other antidepressants on sleep are similar. Therefore, it is suggested that exercise is an antidepressant that enhances aminergic synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. Many more psychological and physiological studies must be performed in order to verify and quantify this relationship. Present statements that single out norepinephrine, dopamine, or serotonin as the crucial amine may be premature and oversimplified. Future physiological studies must take into consideration the advantages and disadvantages of human and animal subjects. Future psychological studies should be attentive to possible differences in psychological benefits between normal and depressed subjects and should not neglect the possible role of cognitive factors such as subjects' attitudes towards exercising or the feelings of accomplishment that may result from increased physical fitness. There is also a need to measure antidepressant effects in long-term exercise programs and in studies employing various forms of exercise.

Role of Amine in Arylation of Ethylene with Iodobenzene Catalyzed by Rhodium Trichloride

Abstract Rhodium trichloride effectively catalyzes the arylation of ethylene with iodobenzene in the presence of an amine to give styrene, although neither rhodium-powder nor chlorotris(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(I) is effective. The efficacy of the amine in increasing the yield of styrene is remarkable with tertiary and secondary amines but negligible with a primary amine. The difference among these amines in their interaction with rhodium trichloride is explained by their steric hindrance based on the isolation of the Rh(III)–amine complex only with primary amine.

Exploration of affective illness.

This report deals with a series of experimental approaches carried out in clinical studies to attempt to examine the role of amines in relationship to affective state and the mode of action of thymoleptic agents. Attempts have been made to examine enzymes, amines and other metabolites in biological fluids to assess the role of catecholamines and indoleamines in these disorders. Synthesis inhibitors were employed in studies where antidepressant drug-induced remission was initiated and the effect of two inhibitors was assessed on the clinical state. The results are presented and discussed in regard to the significance of the role of serotonin in depressive states and the action of thymoleptic agents.

Role of amines in anaphylactic contraction of guinea pig isolated smooth muscle

The possible role of acetylcholine (ACh,) histamine (His), and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in the contractile response to ovalbumin (Oval) of ileal and tracheal muscle from sensitized guinea pigs was examined. Antagonists to these agents (atropine, mepyramine and methysergide, 5-benzyloxygramine, or 5-HT tachyphylaxis, respectively) were employed singly or in combinations. Care was always taken to ensure specificity of blockade. Results indicate that about half of the peak magnitude of the oval-induced contraction is absent in the presence of a specific inhibitory concentration of mepyramine. This finding suggests that His plays a considerable role in the oval-induced contraction. Contrary to previous reports, similar evidence was not obtained of a role for ACh and 5-HT in the Oval-induced contraction. The source of the agonists released by Oval was also investigated. Pretreatment with compound48/80 almost completely eliminated the Oval-induced contraction of ileal muscle while reducing the tracheal contraction about one-half. It would appear that the Oval-induced ileal contraction involves primarily agonists released from mast cells in the preparation whereas tracheal contraction is only partly dependent on mediators from mast cells.
