Systematic method for design of switched-capacitor filters

A method is proposed for the design of switched-capacitor filters (SCFs) from analogue RLC filters (ARF) via the linear transformation (LT) and the equivalent voltage-controlled source transformation (EVCST). Seven basic building blocks are described for the design of any general SCF. The method is especially well suited for the design of bandpass and lowpass SCFs. An example is given to illustrate the efficiency of the technique.

Effect of impulse noise on data transmission using FDPSK

The receiver impulsive characteristic (RIC) for binary frequency differential phase-shift keying (FDPSK) is evaluated. Numerical results for the error rate of the receiver preceded by an RLC filter are given. The results are compared to those of the widely used TDPSK.

On the synthesis of RC active networks with prescribed root sensitivity

The paper presents an optimization procedure whereby the root sensitivity can be optimized to a prescribed value, whose modulus and argument can be controlled independently. The method of optimizing Q and W_{n} . sensitivity is described. It is shown that Q and W_{n} , sensitivity can be reduced to zero by adjusting the argument or the magnitude of the pole sensitivity. Two types of networks are considered for the present synthesis. Details of passive sensitivity analysis are given. It is shown that the passive sensitivities are very low and comparable to those of passive RLC filters. The present method is compared with that of Cheung's. To illustrate the method, a bandpass filter having Q = 10 is designed, and the theoretical considerations are confirmed by the experimental results.

On resolution measurements with Ge(Li) detectors and RLC filter using pole-zero cancellation technique

A comparison between the conventional RC-CR filter network and the RLC with pole-zero cancellation is presented. The results obtained, show an insufficient filtering of low frequencies by the RLC filter.

First-harmonic approximation in nonlinear filtered circuits

The criteria given by Loeb and by Belevitch for the stability of oscillations in nonlinear filtered circuits are compared. It is shown that for a single parallel RLC filter both criteria are equivalent, but that for more complicated filters the criterion of Loeb is only a necessary condition for stability.

Distortion of Angle-Modulated Signals in Misaligned Linear Filters

Differences in distortion are calculated for sinusoidally phase modulated signals that are passed through dissimilar single-tuned RLC filters. The differences in distortion of two identical signals are related to filter tolerances. A two-tone phase modulated signal is shown to experience significant distortions relative to a single-tone phase modulated signal, although the difference tone is hardly distorted, if passed alone.

Interchannel correlation in a bank of parallel filters

The first-order effects of interchannel noise correlation on the fasle alarm and incorrect dismissal probabilities are computed for a bank of parallel RLC filters by expanding the envelope distribution of the n filter outputs in a power series. The correction to the false alarm probability due to noise correlation is found to decrease with increasing threshold-to-rms-noise ratios. If the filter-separation-to-filter-bandwidth ratios are larger than 0.2, it is less than 15 and 0.2 per cent for threshold-to-rms-noise ratios exceeding 12 and 14 db respectively. The correction to the incorrect dismissal probability, which is computed by considering the signal output of three contiguous filters, increases with increasing threshold-to-rms-noise and signal-to-threshold ratios. Even for filter separations larger than the filter bandwidth, it may be in excess of 100 per cent if the threshold-to-rms-noise ratio exceeds 12 db and the signal-to-threshold ratio is larger than 1.2.

A Markoff envelope process

It is shown that the envelope of a narrow-band Gaussian noise constitutes a first-order Markoff process if the power spectrum of the noise is the same as would be obtained from a singly tuned RLC filter with white noise at the input.
