<p style="text-align: justify;"><span>The study of rhetoric is one of the sciences that studies how to process words or sentences in the Arabic language that are beautiful because they have clear meanings, and the style of the language used must be in accordance with the situation and conditions. There are three divisions in rhetoric: the science of meanings, the science of eloquence, and the science of ingenuity. In the science of ingenuity, the researcher chose alliteration and assonance. The aims of this study are: 1.Definition How many Jinas and Sajak in the book of commandments of fathers to children. 2.Definition of the types of Jinas and Sajak in the book Fathers' Commandments to Sons. The library study is based on reading books, magazines, or other research sources to collect data, and the researcher needs deep thinking to get a good research result, then she reads the books and continues to analyze the books in terms of rhetoric.</span></p>

The narrative trap of migrant belonging

ABSTRACT This brief essay considers how US xenophobia and racism function through autopoetic rhetoric. It examines the self-regenerating story that designates Asian American migrants as always-foreign, forever-threats, and never enough. While the analysis centers the experiences of second-generation Asian Americans, it has broader applications for examining how controlling narratives infiltrate law and policy, and it argues for the centrality of rhetorical studies in disrupting harmful mythologies.

Powermapping “Stop Cop City”: abolition ecology for possibilities beyond enclosure

ABSTRACT This essay brings the analytic of abolition ecology into conversation with the critical rhetorical study of social movements, to emphasize the ecological dimensions of racialized violence, settler colonialism, and abolitionist liberation struggles. We do so by advancing the method of rhetorical powermapping, as one way to constellate the rhetorical labor of activists/protectors as they unearth the depth and textures of power temporally and spatially. Putting rhetorical powermapping into practice, we follow the contours of recent insurgent movements to “Stop Cop City” as they unsettle power from within the urban forests of Atlanta, Georgia to broader national and global regimes. Such a practice emphasizes the need for multi-scalar and multi-species systems thinking in any vision of an abolitionist future. Stop Cop City insists we contend more deeply with the ecological dimensions of violence and the indispensability of life amid climate chaos, global militarism, and racialized and gendered repression. It also demands, we argue, that rhetorical scholars adopt alternative methods and analytics to make sense of emerging, decentralized movements on their own terms, the histories and relations that ground them, and the human and more-than-human solidarities they require.

Ableism in the Air: Disability Panic in Stephen King’s The Stand

Abstract This article uses Stephen King’s 1990, uncut release of his famous 1978 horror novel The Stand to reveal the ways the contemporary horror genre implements the language of pandemics and contagious disease to promote ableist ideas about disability. The horror novel villainizes an antagonist as a central function of its plot. When the antagonist is an airborne disease that inflicts disability and death upon its victims, the novel can be a site of production for what I term “disability panic,” a fear and disgust at the possibility of becoming disabled, and a contempt for those who already are. This article argues that The Stand calls attention to how stereotypes and misconceptions around illness-induced disability form in times of crisis. This article merges genre studies in horror, disability language, and rhetoric of disease in literature to uncover how King reveals that the language of the horror novel can contribute to a cultural fear and hatred of disability. This novel, though written decades ago, mimics the language of corona virus disease 2019 in current popular media. This article demonstrates how fear of airborne disease in a horror novel can increase fear of real-life pandemics and contribute to ableist views of those suffering from illness-related disability.

Reformulation Markers in Spanish and Korean: An Intercultural Rhetoric Study

The aim of this paper is to investigate the use of Spanish and Korean reformulation markers against the backdrop of a contrastive / intercultural rhetoric approach (Kaplan, 1966; Hinds, 1987; Clyne, 1994; Connor, 2008, 2011). In order to carry out the analysis, following a line of previous research papers in Murillo (2007, 2012), an empirical study using Spanish and Korean journalistic corpus was performed. The results obtained demonstrate significant disparity between the use of Spanish and Korean RMs when approached from a linguistic-intercultural rhetoric perspective, more specifically as to the use of double reformulation -the repetition of the Korean markers (jeuk… jeuk… / got… got…)-, some particular rhetorical patterns of the Korean marker got, denoting its cultural idiosyncrasy, and the discourse processes, such as ‘definition’, ‘denomination’, and ‘conclusion’, utilizing the selected markers in the two languages.

Pedagogy of the oppressive: building the movement to abolish U.S. legal education

ABSTRACT This essay serves as an urgent cause for action and open call to envision the abolition of U.S. law schools. Traditional legal education’s current manifestation, I argue, serves as a unique system of socialization that advances harm in service of the USA as a settler nation-state. Through a historically grounded analysis of the law school as a project of exclusionary power, this essay identifies traditional U.S. legal education’s (1) pedagogical harm, in the imperial curriculum and instruction of law students; (2) structural harm, in the gatekeeping of legal knowledge; and (3) ideological harm, in the training of future lawyers as agents of settler-state power. Drawing from movements of scholarship-activism in critical legal pedagogy, rhetorical studies, and abolition, this essay proposes radical reforms to the law school as footholds toward freedom. In situating the law school as a critical zone of abolitionist struggle, this essay makes the case that rhetoricians, legal scholars, and advocates aligned with the work of liberation might join across disciplines, jurisdictions, and time to advance “non-reformist reforms” to traditional U.S. legal education. Only through conscious processes of reimagination, I insist, can we more forcefully contribute to the abolition of oppressive formations of power everywhere.

Framing memories of the dead: the rhetorical work of the memory picture in the deathcare industry

ABSTRACT Rhetorical studies of public memory explore the ways in which memory is made material and how those means condition our own embodiment of memory. One space for this type of rhetorical memory work featured in this essay is the encounter with the corpse during funeral services. While research on funeral rhetoric has been foundational to our understanding of memory and epideixis, we focus on the embodied rhetorics that support and sustain the values we have toward the deceased in the processes of encountering them. We share interviews with deathcare workers and a rhetorical ethnography of the deathcare industry to elaborate on the figurative work and backstage processes that make memorializing the dead possible. We contend that “memory pictures” can be understood as material instantiations of memory that shape the processes of encountering and remembering the dead. This article details phases of encountering the recently deceased body and how the deceased body is made into a corpse to remember and mourn. The phases and technical processes of working with corpses are bluntly described with details about preparing, embalming, and displaying dead bodies. The straightforward and sometimes graphic description of these phases and processes may be disturbing or upsetting for readers.

A Forum on Neurorhetorics: Conscious of the Past, Mindful of the Future

ABSTRACT Fourteen years after the special issue on neuroscience and rhetoric in this journal (Neurorhetorics, vol. 40, no. 5), we turn back and look forward. We assess what has been accomplished in neurorhetorics in that time frame, examine what has changed in rhetorical studies and in the neurosciences, and offer suggestions for future research. Eight contributors detail the importance of neurorhetorics for their work and engage a range of topics. Those include neurodiversity, neuropolicy, neurogastronomy, and interdisciplinary collaborations, among others. Ultimately, the forum points toward the need for more critical cultural approaches in neurorhetorics, more policy discussions, new methodologies, and new philosophies that can stretch beyond the “neuro-” prefix and enroll insights from New Materialisms and Global Rhetorics.

Nooses and Nazi swastikas on U.S. campuses: an anti-racist call for a rhetorical reframing of hate symbols as violent technologies

ABSTRACT The terrorizing placement of nooses and Nazi swastikas on U.S. college and university campuses has sustained a climate of fear, trauma, and intimidation. University administration responses often invoke protest from targeted communities over their approach. Examining news reports and university statements between 2010 and 2023, we critique universities’ use of the rhetorical framework of “symbols” (e.g., “heinous symbols of hate,” “racist symbols”). We argue that the “symbolism” framework reflects and reinforces a problem of minimization, if not dismissal, when responding to the impact of these events. Drawing on works by rhetorical studies scholars like Matsuda, Altman, Butler, and Ore, we argue that nooses and swastikas must be understood and treated in relation to their material, violent, spatial, and agential oppressive power and viewed through the relationship between the academic environment of white Christian spaces and anti-Black and anti-Jewish violence and exclusion. Coining the term, “technologies of violence,” we invite a rhetorical shift from hate speech and symbols to acts of violent doing and doing to within the context of historical and contemporary phenomena of systemic racism and antisemitism in academia and society. We offer an anti-racist approach to responding to and studying terroristic objects and acts on campuses.

The role of manuscript Editing And its Impact on the development of Arabic Sciences:A Gloss on the Summary of Meanings by Muhammad ibn Mansour al-Shafshawni as a model”

This study aims to identify the rôle of manuscrit vérification in the development of Arabic sciences, particularly rhetoric and grammar. By examining valuable heritage books such as "Sharh Qatr Al-Nada wa-Ball Al-Sada" by Jamal al-Din Ibn Hisham al-Ansari, verified by Muhyi al-Din Abdul Hamid, "Mukhtasar al-Ma'ani" verified by Maher Muhammad Adnan Othman, and "Hashiya ala Mukhtasar al-Ma'ani" by Muhammad bin Mansour al-Shafshawni, we discovered their immense scientific value from their creation to the present day. These works represent the meticulous efforts of scholars in transmitting knowledge and beauty across generations, forming a bridge between the past and present. Their significance has ensured their fame and numerous annotations and commentaries. Our study reveals that verifying these manuscripts has opened vast horizons for researchers, reinforcing the Arab nation's role in human civilization and facilitating linguistic and rhetorical studies for beginners. It has also highlighted Arab contributions to modern scientific theories in fields such as new linguistics and jurisprudence. Heritage books still require further study to uncover their hidden treasures. Their commentaries and rhetorical writings remain a fertile ground for research, demanding modern scientific approaches to revive this heritage with a new spirit. Eloquence in Adversity: A Hope-Theoretic Exegesis of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 7th March, 1971 Speech and Its Societal Ramifications

This research paper conducts a meticulous exegesis of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's seminal 7th March 1971 speech through the theoretical framework of Hope Theory as propounded by C.R. Snyder. By dissecting the speech’s rhetorical architecture, this study elucidates how Bangabandhu’s strategic deployment of goal-setting, pathway articulation, and agency instillation galvanized a subjugated populace toward the pursuit of sovereignty. The analysis reveals the intricate mechanisms by which Bangabandhu engendered psychological resilience and fostered a robust communal identity, thus transforming rhetorical constructs into catalysts for socio-political mobilization. Furthermore, this paper expounds on the practical implications of hope-infused rhetoric, underscoring its potency in contemporary political discourse and its capacity to fortify national cohesion. The societal ramifications of such rhetorical prowess are profound, offering contemporary leaders a paradigmatic blueprint for engendering collective action and sustaining national morale amidst adversity. This scholarly inquiry contributes to the corpus of rhetorical studies by providing a nuanced understanding of the interplay between hope, rhetoric, and societal transformation.

Fascist energizing: rhetorics of transantagonism as affective metabolism

ABSTRACT This introductory essay argues that trans rhetorics are a crucial method for grappling with the speed, scope, and ascendance of contemporary fascism. Yet, rhetorical studies have yet to robustly engage with trans methodologies and epistemologies, a refusal with dire consequences for academic labor in this climate and the future of the field. Pushing against the scarcity logics that render “trans issues” as “niche” or a “cultural war,” this essay develops a way of reading fascist energizing. Through the concept affective metabolism, I argue trans people are imagined as resources to exhaust, alongside others captured by grievance politics. Consequently, fascist energizing is a way of metabolizing fear into authoritarian control, with consequences for trans people alongside laborers in communities for reproductive justice, climate, and disability justice.

Studying the Quranic Discourse in the Light of the Multiplicity of Dialects and Different Readings (Phonetic and Rhetorical Study).

يهدف البحث إلى بيان قيمة الاختلاف اللغوي الموجود بين القراءات القرآنية واللهجات العربية، وأهمية الأخذ به أثناء النظر في لغة الخطاب القرآني، والبحث في محاسنه وأسراره البيانية. تتمثل إشكالية البحث في كون الاختلاف اللغوي الموجود بين القراءات القرآنية يثير تساؤلات عدة، منها: التساؤل عن العلة القصدية من وراء اختيار القارئ لوجه من وجوه القراءة، أو التساؤل عن علاقة ذلك الاختلاف بالاختلاف الموجود بين اللهجات العربية الفصيحة، وغير ذلك من التساؤلات التي تقتضي البحث عن إجابات شافية. اعتمدنا في هذا البحث منهجًا وصفيًا تفسيريًا يقوم على الأخذ بمبدأ التكامل المعرفي بين العلوم العربية وعلم القراءات، الذي يعد آلية من الآليات الأساسية لفهم الخطاب القرآني، والبحث في خصائصه اللغوية والأسلوبية، وهو منهج يقوم على وصف الظاهرة الصوتية والبلاغية المستخلصة من القراءة القرآنية، واستقراء آراء العلماء فيها، ويشمل هذا الوصف الظواهر الآتية: الإمالة، والإبدال، والنبر، والحذف، والبيان. من النتائج المتوصل إليها في هذا البحث: النبر قرينة صوتية قد يلجأ إليها المتكلم للتمييز بين المعاني، والاستغناء عن الوصف. لوجود الحذف في القراءات القرآنية أثر كبير في توجيه معاني الآيات. النماذج التي أوردناها في هذا البحث تظهر أن من وراء الاختلاف الموجود في القراءات القرآنية علل لغوية قصدية، منها: الإيجاز، والاتساع، والمبالغة، والتخفيف. تشير النتائج المتوصل إليها من خلال هذا العمل إلى ضرورة البحث في أحوال اللغات واللهجات العربية الفصيحة عند دراسة الخطاب القرآني، والتعامل مع القراءة القرآنية بكونها منهجًا من مناهج التعلم والاستدلال، والنظر إليها في أبعادها الصوتية والبلاغية، لمعرفة العلة القصدية منها.

The place of discourse analysis as an analytical method of text and speech interpretation in modern linguistics (on the example of sports communication research)

This article is devoted to the consideration of discourse studies development as well as that of discourse analysis. This method makes it possible to take into account not only the linguistic (verbal) aspect, but also the supra-linguistic (extra-verbal) one, as it also focuses on the situational peculiarities of the text or statements, their pragmatic and functional features, the cultural and historical context, and many other factors. Nowadays discourse analysis is widely used for interdisciplinary research, which determines the relevance of studying the prospects for its further use. This work provides a historical overview of discourse studies formation and development. Various approaches to the key concept interpretation from this area, which is discourse, are analysed. The process of discourse analysis formation as one of the most important parts of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of discourse studies as well as various approaches to its implementation are considered. Some new ways of using discourse analysis to conduct research on various institutional types of communication are proposed, which is demonstrated by the example of implementing this method in the study of sports rhetoric.

THE RHETORICAL MODEL OF IELTS SPEAKING TEST BAND 7 OR ABOVE

Rhetorical studies in various texts have been widely conducted. However, compared to studies in written text, spoken text still received very little scholarly attention. For example, studies on rhetorical structure within the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are hardly found in the literature. Responding to this fundamental need, this study intends to investigate what rhetorical model IELTS test takers employ to make their English-speaking receive excellent scores. This study analyzes ten IELTS speaking tests that receive band seven or above to realize this intention. These ten videos of IELTS speaking tests were taken from YouTube using standard criteria. Their recordings were transcribed to find their rhetorical model, and a top-down analytical approach was employed to find functional moves and strategies to achieve speakers' intentions. The results showed two communicative moves and six strategies as a rhetorical model used by the IELTS test takers who received band seven or above in the present study. This finding implies that understanding the rhetorical model of IELTS speaking may improve awareness of responding to interviewers' requests.

Persuading the emperors: a quantitative historical analysis of political rhetoric in traditional China

The study of rhetoric has a long history in the Western intellectual tradition. However, only minimal efforts have been made to rigorously examine the cultural evolution of various rhetorical strategies in argumentation over time. In this study, we harness the power of fully digitized Chinese dynastic history to systematically analyze how different rhetorical strategies were used to persuade superiors throughout the past two millennia. By leveraging existing literature on Chinese rhetoric and argumentation styles, as well as engaging in extensive consultation with historians of ancient China, we identify and classify rhetorical strategies into distinct categories. We then examine their recorded success in persuasion and any temporal changes in frequency. Our findings point to a cumulative payoff-biased cultural evolution where later dynasties tend to demonstrate higher recorded persuasion success, with the notable exception of the Ming dynasty. Additionally, we detect a temporal decline in the frequency of rhetorical strategies associated with persuasion failures, such as analogy and the use of auspicious/inauspicious signs.

Representations of Structural Deviation In The Poetry of Al-Hutai’a

Al-Hutai'a's poetry is considered one of the most significant examples of ancient Arabic poetry, reflecting artistic development in poetic structure and rhetorical techniques. Al-Hutai'a's poetry manifests various uses of structural deviation, which involves altering the traditional syntactic structure of a sentence to achieve specific aesthetic or semantic purposes. This study aims to analyze and interpret the representations of structural deviation in Al-Hutai'a's poetry, and to understand how this technique has contributed to adding depth and new meanings to poetic texts. The descriptive method is one of the research approaches that aims to describe Al-Hutai'a's poetry through the representations of structural deviation as they are, without intervention or attempt to change them. The researcher attempted to apply this method by systematically collecting and analyzing data to determine and interpret the relationships between the different variables of the research topic. The study of structural deviation in the poetry of Al-Hutai'a represents a valuable contribution to understanding the development of rhetorical techniques in ancient Arabic poetry. The research reveals the importance of structural deviation as a rhetorical tool that enhances the beauty of the text and enriches its meanings, highlighting Al-Hutai'a's skill in using this technique to achieve his poetic aims. This study is a significant addition to Arabic literature and rhetorical studies, as it sheds light on an important aspect of Al-Hutai'a's creativity and his influence on Arabic poetry

A hidden population: A rhetorical genre analysis of the posts in the Baidu depression community

Since its beginning in the 1980s, the mental health rhetoric research (MHRR) has explored the rhetorical construction of mental illness from a genre perspective. Despite a growing body of research on the rhetorical study of mental health in the West, the discourse of depression has been rarely explored in the Chinese context. This study investigates a corpus of 3217 posts in the Baidu depression community in China with an attempt to identify typical rhetorical features of the posts in the depression community as a genre. We intend, through an exploration of the exigences, social actions, and consequences of the posts, to facilitate a better understanding of the depressed population in China. We argue that the social exigences for the posts in online depression communities can be regarded as a failure of the rhetorical environment in real life and that expressing emotions, exchanging information, establishing interpersonal relationships, and communicating across spatiotemporal boundaries are the typified social actions performed by the posts in the Baidu depression community. Moreover, as a genre, the posts have successfully created an ambience of collective intimacy. Taken together, the findings shed light on the rhetorical study of depression in China.

Black vegan rhetoric: race, healing, and conflict in Black women’s blog posts

ABSTRACT Making intersectional interventions within ecofeminism and rhetorical studies, this essay examines Black women’s vegan rhetoric on the website Black Vegans Rock! We argue that Black women’s vegan rhetoric includes two primary themes. First, their vegan rhetoric reveals how Black women find healing and love through veganism. In a world that shows little compassion for their needs, Black women turn to veganism to embrace radical acts of self-love and heal from trauma caused by misogynoir. Second, their vegan rhetoric underscores the challenges of Black women’s self-identification. Black women must navigate the whiteness of vegan spaces and restrictive social norms involving their body and hair, creating hurdles for Black women’s existence in both mainstream (white) vegan movements and Black communities. Through our analysis, we chart Black women’s decolonial ecological practices, which continue to go substantially understudied in ecofeminist and rhetorical studies scholarship.
