Uterine epithelioid trophoblastic tumor with the main manifestation of increased human chorionic gonadotropin: A case report

BACKGROUND Epithelioid trophoblastic tumor (ETT) is an extremely rare malignant gestational trophoblastic neoplasm commonly presenting with abnormal vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, and increased human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This study reported a case of uterine ETT with the main manifestation being increased hCG. CASE SUMMARY A 39-year-old female was referred to the Ningbo Maternal and Child Hospital of China in December 2022, complaining of increased hCG levels for 1 month. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed gestational trophoblastic tumor, and hysteroscopic electrotomy and curettage of intrauterine hyperplasia were performed. The patient was diagnosed with uterine ETT through postoperative pathological examination and immunohistochemical results. Total laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy were performed, and hCG levels returned to normal. The patient was without recurrence during the postoperative 3-month follow-up. CONCLUSION This study reported a case of uterine ETT with the main manifestation being increased hCG, highlighting that ETT should be considered in the presence of abnormal hCG. A total laparoscopic hysterectomy is recommended.

A retrospective study of postoperative adjuvant therapy following immunotherapy combined with targeted therapy and sequential curative surgical procedures for initially unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma

Objective: To report the clinical efficacy of adjuvant therapy based on pathological results following immunotherapy combined with targeted therapy and sequential curative surgical procedures in patients with initially unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: This is a retrospective case series study. Data from 100 patients who underwent adjuvant therapy based on pathological results following immunotherapy combined with targeted therapy and sequential curative surgical procedures with long-term survival were collected from December 2018 to December 2022 at the Faculty of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery, First Medical Center, Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital. According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 47 cases were included, among which patients who met the discontinuation criteria and maintained a drug-free tumor-free status. Thirty-nine male and eight female patients were included, with an age of (54.2±18.8)years(range:38 to 73 years) at initial diagnosis. At the time of initial diagnosis, 43 cases (91.5%) were classified as Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC) stage C. Survival curves were made using Kaplan Meier method. Results: Forty-seven patients underwent R0 resection, all achieved a drug-free tumor-free state through postoperative adjuvant therapy based on pathological examination results. Thirty-six patients(76.6%) maintained a drug-free tumor-free survival status for more than 6 months,28 patients(59.6%) for more than 12 months,and 8 patients(17.0%) for more than 24 months. The longest drug-free tumor-free survival in this cohort reached 48 months. The median follow-up time in this study was 32 months. After diagnosis, the overall survival rates at 1- and 3- years were 97.7%(95%CI:93.4% to 100%) and 90.7%(95%CI:82.5% to 99.8%). The postoperative recurrence-free survival rates at 1- and 3- years were 91.0%(95%CI:83.0% to 99.8%) and 71.3%(95%CI:58.7% to 86.5%). Conclusions: The adjuvant therapy based on pathological results following immunotherapy combined with targeted therapy and sequential curative surgical approach provides long-term survival benefits for patients with initially unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Standardized adjuvant therapy maybe sustain long-term tumor-free status,and achieve drug-free tumor-free survival.

Management of pediatric vanishing testes syndrome based on pathological diagnosis: a single-center retrospective study

This study aims to explore the optimal management strategy for pediatric vanishing testes syndrome (VTS) based on pathological characteristics. We retrospectively analyzed clinical data and pathological results of children with unilateral VTS who underwent surgical treatment at our center from July 2012 to July 2023. The children were categorized into the testicular excision group and testicular preservation group based on the surgical approach. Clinical characteristics and outcomes were compared between the two groups. Pathological examination results of excised testicular tissues were collected and analyzed, and long-term follow-up was conducted. A total of 368 children were included in this study. The age of the children at the time of surgery was 27 months (range, 6–156). Among them, 267 cases (72.6%) had VTS on the left side, and 101 cases (27.4%) on the right side. There were no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05) in age, affected side, contralateral testicular hypertrophy (CTH), testicular location, and preferred surgical incision between the testicular excision group (n = 336) and the testicular preservation group (n = 32). In the preservation group, two children experienced scrotal incision infections, showing a statistically significant difference compared to the excision group (P < 0.05). Pathological examination of excised tissues revealed fibrosis as the most common finding (79.5%), followed by vas deferens involvement (67%), epididymis involvement (40.5%), calcification (38.4%), and hemosiderin deposition (17.9%). Seminiferous tubules (SNT) was present in 24 cases (7.1%), germ cells (GC)in 15 cases (4.5%), and ectopic adrenal cortical tissue(EACT) in 1 case (0.3%). VTS belongs to a type of non-palpable testes (NPT) and requires surgical exploration. Considering the risk of scrotal incision infection after preserving atrophic testicular remnants and the unpredictable malignant potential, we recommend excision.

ASPERGILLOSIS IN BROILER CHICKEN IN TUNJUK VILLAGE, TABANAN DISTRICT, TABANAN REGENCY, BALI

In the development of broiler farming in Indonesia, it is necessary to be aware of diseases that often attack livestock, namely Aspergillosis fungal infection. This case study aims to confirm the diagnosis in the death of 30-day-old broiler chickens of male sex who experienced clinical symptoms of lethargy, nasal discharge, shortness of breath, swollen eyelids, and difficulty eating for 3 days so that they were separated from the rest of the chicken population obtained at one of the farms located in Tunjuk Village, Tabanan District, Tabanan Regency, Bali. Examination of case animals included signaling, anamnesis, epidemiological data, clinical symptoms, anatomical pathology and histopathology examination, bacteriology and mycology examination, and parasitology examination. The results of the anatomical pathology examination showed congestion in the brain, petechie in the ventriculus, hemorrhage in the intestines, hemorrhage in the lungs with white nodules and white nodules in the kidneys. Histopathological examination found septa hyphae and conidiophore. In the mycological examination, the case animals identified Aspergillosis in the lung and kidney organs grown on SDA (Sabouraud Dextose Agar) media and observation under a microscope using 10% KOH dye and methylene blue. In the bacteriological examination, samples of lung and intestinal organs were cultured on general Nutrient Agar (NA) media, followed by selective Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (EMBA) media, primary tests, gram staining, biochemical tests and sugar tests until the results showed that there was a secondary infection of Klebsiella sp in the lung organ samples. The results of the examination related to parasites in the feces of case chickens by qualitative methods, namely natif (direct), sedimentation concentration, and buoyancy concentration were confirmed not to be found worm eggs or coccidia. From this case study it can be concluded that the case chicken was infected with Aspergillosis. Prevention of the spread of Aspergillosis should be done by improving farm management such as housing sanitation and good husbandry methods to prevent the risk of livestock experiencing the disease.

NEWCASTLE DISEASE AND AVIAN INFLUENZA IN BROILER THAT VACCINATED ON ONE DAY OLD

Newcastle disease and Avian Influenza are highly contagious viral diseases that can affect poultry with high mortality rates, and are zoonotic diseases that endanger humans. In this case study, broiler chickens aged 12 days were vaccinated at hatching and came from Yangapi Village, Tembuku, Bangli showed clinical symptoms of drooping neck or torticollis, no appetite, and greenish white diluted feces. Examinations are continued at each laboratory to obtain a definite diagnosis. The methods used are anatomical pathology examination, histopathology preparations, HA-HI examination, bacterial identification, and qualitative examination for paracites. The results of anatomical pathology examination found pathognomonic lesions, like ptechie in the proventriculus and ventriculus, enlargement and congestion in the lungs, hemorrhagic trachea, and hyperemic intestines. The results of histopathological examination showed marked changes with single-core inflammatory cells or lymphoid suggesting an infectious agent in the form of a virus. The results of the virology laboratory examination with the HA and HI test showed that the case chicken was positively infected by Newcastle Disease and Avian Influenza viruses. Bacteriology laboratory by culture of lung and intestinal organ samples was carried out on Nutrient Agar, followed by selective media Eosin Methylene Blue Agar, primary tests, gram staining, biochemical tests and sugar tests until the results showed that Escherichia coli bacteria grew from the chicken intestines and were classified as normal flora. The results of the examination related to parasites in the feces of case chickens by qualitative methods, natif, sedimentation concentration, and floating were confirmed not to be found worm eggs or coccidia. From this case study, it can be concluded that the case chicken was infected with Newcastle Disease and Avian Influenza viruses.

THYPLITIS HAEMORRHAGICA ET NECROTICAN IN THE INCIDENCE OF COCCIDIOSIS IN BROILER CHICKENS AGED 32 DAYS

Coccidiosis is a parasitic disease that often infects the digestive system of poultry and is caused by protozoan parasites from the genus Eimeria spp. Eimeria tenella is one of the most pathogenic protozoan species and has a predilection for the cecum and causes bloody diarrhea. The purpose of this paper is to determine the infectious agent that causes the death of 32 days old, female broiler chickens originating from one of the chicken farms in Petak Village, Gianyar District, Gianyar Regency. Clinical signs observed in chickens are weakness, pale wattles, dull looking feathers, clumps in the corners of the cage, and bloody diarrhea and dirty cloaca. Based on the results of the anatomical pathology examination, it showed that there was hemorrhage and thickening of the cecum wall (thyplitis haemorrhagica et necrotican). On histopathological examination, schizonts, hemorrhage, necrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration were found in the cecum and on parasitological examination, Eimeria sp oocysts were found. which has sporulated in chicken feces samples with moderate infection intensity. Conclusion: the case chicken was diagnosed as infected with coccidiosis by Eimeria tenella. Sanitation and improved cage management need to be carried out to prevent the occurrence of coccidiosis in chickens.

Value of early pregnancy ultrasound combined with ultrasound score in the evaluation of placenta accreta in scar uterus: A retrospective cohort study.

The objective of this study is to investigate the value of early pregnancy ultrasound combined with ultrasound score (USS) for the evaluation of placenta accreta (PA) in scar uteri. Thirty cases of PA in scar uteri diagnosed by ultrasound at our hospital between June 2021 and June 2022 were selected retrospectively (observation group). In addition, 30 patients had placenta attached to the anterior wall of the uterus and covered the internal orifice of the cervix; however, no PA was selected in the same period (control group). The results of surgical pathology and ultrasound examination in the first trimester of pregnancy (11-14 weeks of pregnancy, fetal top hip length 4.5-8.4 cm) were analyzed. Ultrasonic image characteristics of the 2 groups were scored using an ultrasonic scoring scale. The ultrasonic signs and ultrasonic scores of the 2 groups were analyzed. The diagnostic value of ultrasound and USS for PA in the scarred uterus alone and in combination was analyzed based on the gold standard of surgical and pathological results. The rich blood flow signal at the junction of the uterine serosa and bladder, the rate of blood flow in the cavity of the placental parenchyma, the thinning rate of the myometrium after placenta, and the abnormal rate of the low echo area after placenta in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < .05). The USS of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < .05). The sensitivity (93.33%) and accuracy (95.00%) of the combined examinations were significantly higher than those of ultrasound (70.00% and 83.33%, respectively) (P < .05). The sensitivity and accuracy of combined examination were slightly higher than those of USS examination (83.33% and 90.00%), but the difference was not statistically significant (P > .05). There was no significant difference between the specificity of combined examination (93.33%) and ultrasound (96.67%) and USS (96.67%) (P > .05). Early pregnancy ultrasound and USS evaluation have high application value in the diagnosis and evaluation of early scar uterine PA. The combination of the 2 methods can further improve the sensitivity and accuracy of diagnosis.

Postoperative lymph node metastasis status and related factors in patients with early-stage, low-risk endometrial cancer assessed by the Mayo criteria

Objective: To investigate the postoperative lymph node metastasis status and related factors of patients with early-stage low-risk endometrial cancer evaluated by the Mayo criteria in order to make the preoperative evaluation more accurate. Methods: A total of 172 patients with early-stage low-risk endometrial cancer who underwent surgery in Sichuan Provincial Cancer Hospital from 2009 to 2018 and were evaluated as early low-risk according to the "Mayo criteria" were retrospectively enrolled, and were divided into lymph node metastasis group (7 cases) and non-metastasis group (165 cases) according to the results of postoperative pathological examination. The postoperative pathological examination results and prognosis of all patients were collected. The lymph node metastasis of the two groups was analyzed. The multiple logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors of lymph node metastasis, and the area under the curve (AUC) of the relevant factors was calculated by using the receiver operating characteristic curve to predict the postoperative lymph node metastasis of patients. Results: The age of 172 patients was (53.0±8.6) years, and the follow-up [M(Q1,Q3)] was 64.1 (46.2, 91.4) months, among whom 2 relapsed and 1 died. Among the 7 patients with lymph node metastasis, 5 cases had pelvic lymph node metastasis, 1 case had pelvic lymph union and abdominal para-aortic lymph node metastasis, 1 case had isolated abdominal para-aortic lymph node metastasis, 3 cases had two lymph node metastases, and 4 cases had intrailiac lymph nodes being the most common metastasis site. Multivariate analysis showed that preoperative serum cancer antigen (CA) 125 was the relevant factor for postoperative lymph node metastasis, with an OR value (95%CI) of 1.022 (1.001-1.043) (P=0.042), with AUC (95%CI) of CA125 predicting lymph node metastasis of 0.850 (0.761-0.939) (P=0.002), and the optimal cut-off value of CA125 was 29.305 U/ml with the sensitivity of 85.7% and the specificity of 80.6%. Conclusions: When CA125>29.305 U/ml, patients with early-stage low-risk endometrial cancer assessed by the Mayo criteria, had an increased risk of lymph node metastasis. Therefore, adding preoperative serum CA125 level as an evaluation index on the basis of the classic "Mayo criteria" may help conduct more accurate preoperative evaluation and better identify early-stage low-risk EC patients.

Prediction of Lymphovascular invasion status in breast cancer based on magnetic resonance imaging radiomics features

ObjectiveThis study intended to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of using clinical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics features to predict lymphovascular invasion (LVI) status in breast cancer (BC) patients. MethodsA total of 182 BC patients were retrospectively collected and randomly divided into a training set (n = 127) and a validation set (n = 55) in a 7:3 ratio. Based on pathological examination results, the training set was further divided into LVI group (n = 60) and non-LVI group (n = 67), and the validation set was divided into LVI group (n = 24) and non-LVI group (n = 31). General data and MRI examination indicators were compared. Multivariate logistic regression was utilized to analyze MRI radiomics features and clinically relevant indicators that were significant in the baseline information of patients in training set, independent risk factors were identified, and a logistic regression model was built. The accuracy of logistic model was validated using ROC curves in training and validation sets. ResultsAge, pathohistological classification, tumor length, tumor width, presence or absence of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) cho peak, presence or absence of spicule sign, peritumoral enhancement, and peritumoral edema were statistically significant (P < 0.05) between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis presented that spicule and peritumoral edema were independent risk factors for LVI in BC patients (P < 0.05). The ROC curve illustrated that AUC of the logistic regression model in the training set was 0.807 (95%CI: 0.730–0.885) and that in the validation set was 0.837 (95%CI: 0.731–0.944). ConclusionRadiomics features of spicule sign and peritumoral edema were independent risk factors for LVI in BC patients. A logistic regression model based on these factors, along with age, could accurately predict LVI occurrence in BC patients, providing data support for diagnosis and modeling of LVI in BC patients.

Value of high‑risk human papillomavirus detection combined with colposcopy in the diagnosis of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions.

In the present study, the diagnostic value of high risk-human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) combined with colposcopy for the detection of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions was evaluated. A total of 397 patients with confirmed cervical disease were enrolled between August 2020 and December 2021. According to the pathological diagnosis, the patients were divided into cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade I (CIN I; n=153 cases), CIN II (n=101 cases), CIN III (n=86 cases) and cervical cancer (n=57 cases) groups. The HR-HPV-positive rate of the patients with different lesion types was compared, and the consistency of colposcopy and pathological examination results were assessed. For cervical cancer and precancerous lesions, the diagnostic value and efficacy of HR-HPV testing, colposcopy and combined HR-HPV testing and colposcopy examination were compared using pathological examination results as the gold standard. The results of the present study demonstrated that in patients with cervical cancer, the positive rate of HR-HPV (100.00%; n=57/57) was higher than that in patients with precancerous lesions, and the positive rate of HR-HPV in patients with CIN I type (36.60%, n=56/153) was lower than that in patients with CIN II (83.17%, n=84/101) and CIN III (82.56%, n=71/86) types (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the HR-HPV-positive rate between patients with CIN II and CIN III (P>0.05). Cohen's κ coefficient for colposcopy examination and pathological examination of patients with cervical cancer and precancerous lesions was 0.622, the diagnostic accuracy was 90.43% (n=359/397), the positive predictive value was 65.57% (n=40/61), and the negative predictive value was 94.94% (n=319/336). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis demonstrated that the area under the curve of the combined examination in the diagnosis of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions was 0.904, which was higher than that of colposcopy (0.820) or HR-HPV testing (0.802) alone (P<0.05). The results of the present study indicated that HR-HPV detection combined with colposcopy has diagnostic value for cervical cancer and precancerous lesions.

Analysis of clinical data of different endometrial pathological types in perimenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding.

Early detection and diagnosis are important for improving the therapeutic effect and quality of life in patients with endometrial cancer (EC). This study aimed to analyze the clinical data of different endometrial pathological types in perimenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) in order to provide evidence for the prevention and early diagnosis of EC. A total of 462 perimenopausal women with AUB were enrolled in this prospective observational study. Endometrial biopsy was performed in patients with suspected endometrial lesions. According to the pathological examination results, the patients were divided into endometrial polyp group (EP) (n = 71), endometrial hyperplasia without atypia group (EH) (n = 59), atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) (n = 36), and EC group (n = 27). The history risk factors and ultrasonic imaging characteristics of endometrium among the four groups were compared. Twenty-seven women were diagnosed with EC (5.84%). The prevalence rate of AEH and EC in the group of 51- to 55-year-old women was significantly higher than that in the groups of 40- to 45-year-old women and of 46- to 50-year-old women (P < 0.05). The age, body mass index, and history of diabetes gradually increased with the development of endometrial pathological types. In addition, the correlation index of endometrial blood flow increased gradually, and the proportion of uneven endometrial echo, unclear endometrial-myometrial junction (EMJ), and ovarian cyst also increased gradually. However, no statistically significant difference was found when comparing endometrial thickness (ET) and endometrial volume (EV) among endometrial pathological groups (P > 0.05). The ET, EV, endometrial vascularization index, endometrial flow index, and vascularization flow index in the ovarian cyst group were significantly higher (P < 0.05), and the proportion of uneven endometrium echo and unclear EMJ were significantly higher compared with that in the non-ovarian cyst group (P < 0.05). The most common cause of perimenopausal women with AUB was benign endometrial lesions. However, women aged 51-55 years old with endometrial high risk factors and ovarian cyst should be alert to AEH and EC. Endometrial biopsy needs to be performed to determine endometrial malignancy in necessity.

Follicular Ameloblastoma of the Mandible in a Young Adult Patient: Case Report

Introduction: Ameloblastoma is a locally invasive tumor that grows slowly and attacks the maxillofacial area. There are various histological variants of ameloblastoma. The most common is follicular ameloblastoma. They are characterized by slow growth and are relatively aggressive locally, with the primary site of origin being the mandible. Late recurrence after surgical management is relatively common and is related to the histologic type, site of origin, and initial treatment modality. The mandibular bone is also a relatively common location for this tumor. Optimal surgical treatment of ameloblastoma should minimize recurrence, restore function and aesthetics, and minimize morbidity at the donor site. Segmental mandibular resection surgery is tumour surgery by removing part of the mandible. Case report: A 15-year-old female patient came with complaints of a mass in the mandible area. The mass infiltrated the right mandible. The surgical intervention performed on this patient was a segmental resection operation. From the results of the Anatomic Pathology (AP) examination, follicular ameloblastoma was found in the right mandibular region. Conclusion: The patient's age and histopathological pattern of the tumor influence the treatment plan. Keywords: Follicular Ameloblastoma, Benign, Segmental resection surgery

Intense 18 F-Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen Uptake and Mild 18 F-FDG Uptake in a Biopsy-Proven Pulmonary Hemangioma.

We present intense radiotracer activity in a soft tissue density abutting the aortic arch of the left lung on 18 F-prostate-specific membrane antigen PET/CT scan in a patient with prostate cancer, mimicking metastatic disease from prostate cancer versus primary lung malignancy. 18 F-FDG PET/CT scan, however, shows no elevated FDG activity. The results of pathology examination from resected specimen are consistent with pulmonary hemangioma.

Biofilm formation is a risk factor for late and delayed complications of filler injection.

Biofilm formation is a major cause of delayed-graft complications. Similarly to implants, dermal fillers carry the risk of biofilm formation, which can lead to the development of nodules, chronic inflammatory reactions, abscesses and other complications. In this study, we investigated the late or delayed complications associated with biofilm formation on dermal fillers. In this retrospective analysis, we analyzed all cases of complications caused by filler injections at a single center between January 2017 and December 2022, the majority of which comprised nodule formation and chronic persistent inflammatory reactions. The risk of biofilm formation with fillers was summarized and analyzed based on the results of bacterial culture and pathological examination. Sixty-one patients were enrolled, including 42 cases of nodule formation, 15 of chronic inflammatory reactions, and 4 of active infection. Bacterial culture of the tissue samples obtained from seven patients after surgical treatment were positive, and comprised four cases of Staphylococcus aureus, one case of Staphylococcus epidermidis, one case of Staphylococcus saprophyticus and one case of Mycobacterium abscessus. The corresponding histopathological results indicated extensive mononuclear lymphocyte infiltration, with a giant cell reaction in the fibrous connective tissue. The results of this study suggest that biofilm formation is a significant risk factor for late and delayed complications following filler injection, and is caused by the contamination of resident bacteria and recessive infection at the injection site.

Impact of Tumor Subclassifications for Identifying an Appropriate Surgical Strategy in Patients with Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is subclassified into small and large duct types. The impact of these subclassifications for identifying appropriate surgical strategies remains unclear. This study included 118 patients with ICC who underwent liver resection. Based on the pathological examination results, the participants were divided into the small duct-type ICC group (n = 64) and large duct-type ICC group (n = 54). The clinicopathological features and postoperative outcomes were compared between the two groups to investigate the impact of subclassification for selecting appropriate surgical strategies. Ten patients in the small duct-type ICC group had synchronous or metachronous hepatocellular carcinoma. The large duct-type ICC group had higher proportions of patients who underwent major hepatectomy, extrahepatic bile duct resection, portal vein resection, and lymph node sampling or dissection than the small duct-type ICC group. The large duct-type ICC group had significantly higher incidences of lymph node metastasis/recurrence and pathological major vessel invasion than the other. The small duct-type ICC group exhibited significantly higher recurrence-free and overall survival rates than the large duct-type ICC group. Further, the large duct-type ICC group had a significantly higher incidence of lymph node metastasis/recurrence than the small duct-type ICC at the perihilar region group. Suitable surgical strategies may differ between the small and large duct-type ICCs. In patients with large duct-type ICCs, hepatectomy with lymph node dissection and/or biliary reconstruction should be considered, whereas hepatectomy without these advanced procedures can be suggested for patients with small duct-type ICCs.

TRICHURIOSIS INFECTION AND COCCIDIOSIS IN LANDRACE PIGS

A one-month-old female Landrace pig died after being suspected of being infected with nematode worms and protozoa parasites. The purpose of this study was to establish a diagnosis of death from case pigs. The pigs were taken from a close house farm owned by Mr. Wayan Suastika in Payangan village, Gianyar, with a total population of 20 and had never been dewormed. Case pigs showed symptoms such as anorexia, experiencing blackish diarrhea mixed with a little blood, no appetite, and pale mucosa. The case pig died one day after being taken from the farm, and was necropsied on November 18, 2022 at the Veterinary Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University. Organs that underwent changes such as the brain, trachea, lungs, heart, spleen, liver, kidneys and intestines were taken to the Veterinary Pathology Laboratory for histopathological examination. Examination of feces using the flotation method and the Mcmaster method, as well as making permanent preparations to identify worms were carried out at the Veterinary Parasitology Laboratory. The results of post-mortem examination found typical anatomic pathology in the form of haemorrhagic colon, necrosis and catarrhal or mucohemorrhagic enteritis with mucus, fresh blood and/or necrotic debris in the lumen, along with infection with nematode worms in the colon with a total of 235 individuals. From the results of stool examination, Trichuris suis worm eggs and Eimeria spp. oocysts were found. Based on the results of pathological and parasitological examinations, it can be concluded that cases of death in pigs are caused by Trichuriosis and Coccidiosis. As a suggestion, pigs should be kept in cages with floors made of concrete or cement. If an earthen yard is used, excreta disposal should be regular and the manure disposal site should be made of closed concrete wells so as not to attract beetles.

The Relationship between Degree of Differentiation with the Incidence of Lymphovascular Infiltration Triple Negative Breast Cancer in West Sumatera

Background: The degree of differentiation and the incidence of lymphovascular infiltration in Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) are several determinants of the prognosis and survival of sufferers. This disease has a more aggressive clinical course than other breast cancer phenotypes. Targeted therapy has not been able to improve survival in TNBC patients. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the degree of differentiation and lymphovascular infiltration in Triple Negative Breast Cancer in West Sumatra. Methods: This is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The number of study samples was 44 TNBC patients at the Ropanasuri Special Surgery Hospital, Ibnu Sina Islamic Hospital, and RSUP Dr. M. Djamil, Padang, in 2016–2021. The data studied were the degree of differentiation and lymphovascular infiltration from the results of anatomical pathology examination which were analyzed using the Chi Square test. Results: The most histopathological types in TNBC were Invasive Carcinoma Mammae of No Special Type (79,5%) with the most age range of patients over 60 years (43,2%). The majority of the degrees of differentiation found were grade II (75%), lymphovascular infiltration negative category (65,9%), and there was a significant relationship (p &lt; 0,001) between the degree of differentiation and lymphovascular infiltration in TNBC Conclusions: There was a relationship between the degree of differentiation and lymphovascular infiltration in TNBC, namely the higher the histopathological grade of cancer cells, the higher the probability of experiencing lymphovascular infiltration.

Kliniğimizde Gerçekleşen İntra-Uterin Fetal Ölüm Vakalarının Retrospektif Olarak Değerlendirilmesi

The present study aims to retrospectively analyze the frequency, demographic characteristics, affecting risk factors and outcomes of intra-uterine fetal death (IUFD) cases delivered between 2015 and 2022 in our clinic, a tertiary center. Between January 2015 and December 2021, 92 pregnant women between 22-41 weeks of gestational age who gave birth due to IUFD in Muğla University Education and Research Hospital clinic were included in the study. Age at presentation, gravida, parity and body mass index (BMI) data, gestational weeks, and if after birth, birth weight, mode of delivery, infant sex and pathologic examination results were recorded. There were 92 cases of IUFD between the specified dates. The ratio of cases to the number of births was 1.03%. Of the cases, 88 (95.65%) were singleton pregnancies and 4 (4.34%) were multiple pregnancies. The mean age was 29.47±5.71 years. Among the cases, 1 (1.08%) pregnant woman was under 18 years of age and 1 pregnant woman was over 40 years of age. The mean BMI was 25.54±3.90 kg/m2 and 2 (2.16%) pregnant women were morbidly obese (≥40 kg/m2). The mean gestational age was 31.07±4.87 weeks. When the causes of IUFD were evaluated, placental abruptio1n was observed in 12 (13.18%) pregnant women. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy were present in 6 (50%) of the pregnant women with placental abruption. While 5 (5.49%) pregnant women had diabetes mellitus, 2 (2.19%) had placenta previa. A total of 7 (7.60%) pregnant women had anhydroamniosis, a sign of uteroplacental insufficiency, during hospitalization, while 20 (21.97%) pregnant women had fetal anomaly. One (1.09%) pregnant woman developed disseminated intravascular coagulation. In addition, 3 (3.26%) pregnant women had COVID-19 and were hospitalized. The predictability of IUFD cases is low. But despite this, each center can partially reduce the incidence of IUFD with a pro-active approach by evaluating its own outcomes and identifying risk factors.

ANATOMICAL PATHOLOGY AND HISTOLOGICAL OF SMALL INTESTINAL ORGANS IN BROILER INFECTED WITH ASCARIDIA GALLI

Infection with Ascaridia galli still attacks poultry farms, especially chickens in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the causes of changes in anatomy pathological and histology in small intestine of broiler. The study was taken from Alif which had clinical symptoms of weakness and anorexia on July 5, 2022 in Gresik Jawa Timur. The results of anatomical pathology and histological examination showed changes in the duodenum and jejunum organs showing hemorrhagic and inflammatory cell infiltration. The results of parasite examination found A.galli worms in the lumen of the small intestine and A.galli worm eggs from feces. In this study, clinical symptoms and anatomy pathological and histology changes of the small intestine in the broiler were caused by infection with A. galli worms.

Mercury species analysis and tissue distribution in rats after continuous administration of Cinnabaris

Cinnabaris is a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) commonly used for sedation and tranquilization in clinics, and its safety has always been a concern. This study intends to investigate the species and tissue distribution of mercury in rats after continuous administration of Cinnabaris. In the experiment, 30 rats were randomly divided into the control group(equivalent to 0.5% carboxy-methyl cellulose sodium), low-dose Cinnabaris group(0.2 g·kg~(-1)), high-dose Cinnabaris group(2 g·kg~(-1)), pseudogerm-free control group(equivalent to 0.5% sodium carboxymethyl cellulose), and pseudogerm-free Cinnabaris group(2 g·kg~(-1)). They were orally administered for 30 consecutive days. Ultrasound-assisted acid extraction method combined with high performance liquid chromatography and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(HPLC-ICP-MS) was adopted to determine inorganic mercury [Hg(Ⅱ)], methylmercury(MeHg), and ethylmercury(EtHg) in different tissue, plasma, urine, and feces of rats. The optimal detection conditions and extraction methods were optimized, and the linearity(R~2&gt;0.999 3), precision(RSD&lt;7.0%), and accuracy(spike recoveries ranged from 73.05% to 109.5%) of all the mercury species were satisfied, meeting the requirements of analysis. The results of mercury species detection showed that Hg(Ⅱ) was detected in all the tissue of the five experimental groups, and the main accumulating organs were the intestinal tract, stomach, and kidney. MeHg existed at a low concentration in most tissue, and EtHg was not detected in all groups. In addition, pathological examination results showed that hepatocyte vacuolar degeneration, loose cytoplasm, light staining, and mononuclear cell infiltration were observed in the high-dose Cinnabaris group, low-dose Cinnabaris group, and pseudogerm-free Cinnabaris group, with slightly milder lesions in the low-dose Cinnabaris group. Hydrous degeneration of renal tubular epithelium could be seen in the high-dose Cinnabaris group and pseudogerm-free Cinnabaris group, but there was no significant difference between the other groups and the control group. No abnormal changes were found in the brain tissue of rats in each group. This paper studied the different mercury species and tissue distribution in normal and pseudogerm-free rats after continuous administration of Cinnabaris for 30 days and clarified its effects on the tissue structure of the liver, kidney, and brain, which provided supporting evidence for the safety evaluation of Cinnabaris.
