In Austria, skid resistance measurements are carried out regularly, using the high-performance road surface tester “Roadstar”, which was developed by the Vienna-based institute Arsenal Research in cooperation with the Stuttgart Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines (FKFS). In an Austrian research project sponsored by the Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology the author developed a model focussing on the stopping process based on the results of Roadstar skid resistance measurements and full braking tests with passenger cars, in order to document the relationship between skid resistance, speed and stopping distance.
