The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the use of Kodak 910 monomer (methyl-2-cyanoacrylate) as an aid to pulmonary segmental resection in dogs. Methyl-2-cyanoacrylate, a rapidly polymerizing plastic adhesive, has been used as a sealing agent in bronchopulmonary,1-3vascular,4-12intestinal,13-15ocular,16renal,17esophageal,18and tracheal19surgery. It was hoped that this new material might decrease the incidence of air leaks and space problems after pulmonary segmental resection. Method and Results Resection of the apicoposterior segment of the left upper lobe was performed in eight dogs through the anatomic intersegmental plane of dissection. Vessels crossing the intersegmental plane were ligated. The segmental bronchi of the anterior and lingular segments of the left upper lobe were dissected free. The left upper lobe was overexpanded, and the anterior and lingular bronchi were occluded by noncrushing vascular clamps. Expansion of the raw segmental surface was obtained.
