Structure of News Text on the Arrest of the Head of Front Pembela Islam in Online Media

The study was to find and describe the structure of the news text on the arrest of the Front Pem-bela Islam chairman in cases of violating health protocols in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic on BBC News Indonesia and Kompas.com online media. The research was a descriptive qualitative by utilizing van Dijk's model with a social cognition approach focusing on the text schemes which included macro structure, superstructure, and micro structure. The research data were the fragments of discourse of articles on online media BBC News Indonesia and Kompas.com which contained news of healt protocals violations. The re-search applied listening technique and a note-taking technique as a follow-up. To check the re-search data, triangulation and interactive analysis techniques were needed to analyze the data. This study foud out that the online media BBC News Indonesia and Kompas.com had a macro structure regarding the arrest of Rizieq Shihab for violating one of the Covid 19 health protocols, that was gathering crowds. the superstructure was found in the introduction, content, and clos-ing; the microstructure section was found in semantics (background and intent), syntax (sentence forms and pronouns), lexicon, and graphics. The study concluded that according to the Teun A van Dijk scheme, the news on Rizieq Shihab's health protocol violations during the Covid 19 pandemic of BBC News Indonesia and Kompas.com had a macro text structure, superstructure, and micro structure.

Why some do but too many don\u2019t? Barriers and enablers to physical activity in regional Tasmania \u2013 an exploratory, mixed-methods study

BackgroundThe interconnectedness of physical inactivity and sedentarism, obesity, non-communicable disease (NCD) prevalence, and socio-economic costs, are well known. There is also strong research evidence regarding the mutuality between well-being outcomes and the neighbourhood environment. However, much of this evidence relates to urban contexts and there is a paucity of evidence in relation to regional communities. A better understanding of available physical activity (PA) infrastructure, its usage, and community perceptions regarding neighbourhood surroundings, could be very important in determining requirements for health improvement in regional communities. The aims of this research were to 1. Explore and evaluate the public’s perception of the PA environment; and 2. Evaluate the quantity, variety, and quality of existing PA infrastructure in regional Northwest (NW) Tasmania.MethodsA mixed methods approach guided data collection, analysis, and presentation. Quality of PA infrastructure was assessed using the Physical Activity Resource Assessment (PARA) instrument and public perception about PA environment was evaluated using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire – Environmental (IPAQ-E) module. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive summative methods and a team-based researcher triangulation approach was utilised for qualitative data.ResultsOverall, a wide array of high-quality PA infrastructure (with minimal incivilities such as auditory annoyance, litter, graffiti, dog refuse, and vandalism etc.) was available. Survey respondents rated neighbourhoods positively. The overall quality of PA infrastructure, rated on a scale from 0 to 3, was assessed as high (all rated between 2 to 3) with minimal incivilities (rated between 0 and 1.5). Of note, survey respondents confirmed the availability of numerous free-to-access recreational tracks and natural amenities across the 3 local government areas (LGAs) studied. Importantly, most respondents reported minimal disruption to their routine PA practices due to the COVID-19 pandemic.ConclusionThis exploratory research confirmed the availability of a wide range of high-quality PA infrastructure across all three LGAs and there was an overwhelming public appreciation of this infrastructure. The challenge remains to implement place-based PA interventions that address extant barriers and further increase public awareness and utilisation of high-quality PA infrastructure.

The Political Communication Tactics of the National Democratic Party (NasDem) for Winning the Legislative Election

This article discusses the political communication strategy of a party, especially the National Democratic Party (NasDem) in Central Java in the 2019 Legislative Election. This study uses the Elaboration Likelihood ModelTheory from Petty and Cacciopo, when the persuasion of messages in the campaign can be accepted by the public so that they can win the 2019 Legislative Election contestation. This study uses a postpositivism paradigm, with qualitative descriptive research methods and triangulation of data sources, while this research focuses on the candidates for members of the NasDem Party. They are now legislative members in the DPRD of Central Java Province. The results of this study indicate that the Political Communication Tactics used by the Central Java NasDem Party in winning the 2019 Election Contestation was communicating with a traditional approach by personally meeting the cloud community, organizations community, community leaders, Islamic figures (Kiai), former officials, RT and RW. Those ways were carried out by the model of house visit, 'nguwongke uwong',. This study indicates that three legislative candidates who are currently sitting in the DPRD of Central Java have been elected.

INFLUENCE OF TEACHERS’ PREPAREDNESS AND INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES ON TRANSITION OF LEARNERS WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT FROM INTEGRATED PRE-PRIMARY TO PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN NAROK COUNTY, KENYA

Transition of pre-primary learners with visual impairment from integrated pre-primary to primary schools in Narok County has been low. Thus, the study assessed school dynamics influencing transition of learners with visual impairment from integrated pre-primary to primary schools in Narok County, Kenya. The study objectives were; to establish the influence of teachers’ preparedness and instructional resources on transition of learners from integrated pre-primary to primary schools in Narok County. The study was based on the Ecological Systems Theory and Transition Theory. The study employed mixed methods approach and in turn used concurrent triangulation research design. The target population consisted of 16 headteachers, 3 Educational Assessment and Resource Centre officers and 208 teachers and 160 learners with visual impairment all totalling to 387. The study adopted the Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample size determination formula where a sample size of 266 respondents was sampled. The study used purposive and stratified sampling method to select the sample. 15 headteachers and three EARC Officers were sampled using purposive sampling. Stratified random sampling method was used to select 135 teachers while 113 learners were selected using simple random sampling. Questionnaires were used to collect data from teachers, interview guides were used to collect data from headteachers and EARC Officers while an observation checklist was used to collect data from the learners. Pilot testing of the instrument was done on 2 headteachers, one EARC officer, 12 teachers and 5 learners with visual impairment from the neighbouring Bomet County. Validity was established through expert judgement. Reliability was established using test re-test technique and reliability index, r = 0.867 was determined using Cronbach Alpha Method. Qualitative data were analysed thematically along the objectives and presented in narrative forms. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and inferentially using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Analysis with the help of Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 23) and presented using tables. The study established that teachers’ preparedness and instructional resources influence transition of learners with visual impairment from integrated pre-primary to primary schools. The study recommends that Ministry of Education should redesign the teacher training curriculum to encompass components of special needs education to equip them with skills to handle and teach learners in integrated school microsystems. Ministry of Education should also allocate more funds to schools to enable the school management to provide adequate, but suitable instructional resources for learners with visual impairment.<p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0936/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>

Influence of Capacity Building of Counsellors on Teenage Pregnancy in Public Secondary Schools in Ruiru Sub-County, Kiambu County, Kenya

Capacity building plays an important role in equipping counsellors with skills to enable them undertake their tasks of reducing incidences of teenage pregnancy in public secondary schools. However, in Ruiru Sub- County, cases of teenage pregnancy in public secondary schools are still high. Thus, this study sought to assess the influence of capacity building of counsellors on teenage pregnancy in public secondary schools in Ruiru Sub- County, Kiambu County, Kenya. The objectives were; to assess the level of teenage pregnancy and the influence of capacity building of counsellors, motivation of counsellors, provision of counselling materials and implementation of counselling reports on teenage pregnancy in public secondary schools. The study was based on the open systems theory and theory of planned behaviour. The study applied a mixed methodology and thus adopted a concurrent triangulation research design. Qualitative data were analysed thematically along the objectives and presented thematically in narrative forms. Quantitative data were analysed descriptively using frequencies and percentages and inferentially using One-Sample t-Test analysis with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 23) and presented using tables. The study established that there have been many cases of teenage pregnancy in public secondary schools. It was also found that implementation of counselling programmes has been a challenge with capacity building of counsellors not effectively undertaken in secondary schools. The study recommends that secondary schools should organize seminars and workshops to train teachers and peer- counsellors on how to undertake counselling activities. The Ministry of Education (MoE) should set and allocate some amount of money to offer as incentives to teachers and students who undertake counselling activities and tasks besides their classroom activities.

Career maturity is the ability of students to make decisions, plan and choose jobs for themselves, especially in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 which competes with technological advances. Online group guidance using discussion techniques is an approach to guidance and counseling provided by counselors or BK teachers to counselees or students by exchanging ideas and information between group members in which there are activities to share information about careers, discussions and online questions and answers. which is done in groups by paying attention to the principles of group guidance. The purpose of this study was to determine the application of online group guidance services for class XII students at Madrasah Aliyah Assakinah. Qualitative descriptive with triangulation research design is the method used in this study. The subjects in this study were ten students of class XII at Madrasah Aliyah Assakinah. Based on the results of interviews, observations and documentation studies, there are differences in students before being given online group guidance services on career maturity using discussion techniques. Students who have been given online group guidance services on career maturity using discussion techniques show better career maturity. Technology Behavior Model—Beyond Your Sight with Extended Reality in Surgery

Extended Reality Smart Glasses is a new pattern that uses extended reality technology to present a visual environment that combines the physical and virtual worlds. However, the surgical technique using Smart Glasses implementation is still unknown, to the infancy in clinical surgery, derived to the limits of existing technology. This study researched the acceptability and possibility of XRSG for medical experts. It combines human seen behavioral control with information technology research to construct a new “Extended Reality Technology Behavior Model” using method Technology Acceptance Model and Theory of Planned Behavior. To improve the accuracy of the study, statistical analysis, exploratory analysis, and cross-sectional research triangulation were used to collect data in five hospitals in Malaysia using a convenience sampling method and a questionnaire on behavioral influences. From the collected data, PLS-SEM analysis was used to reflect the relationship between variables. The strong positive results suggest that using XRSG by medical experts helps to improve the composition, interactivity, standardization, and clarity of medical images, resulting in increased efficiency and reduced procedure time and felt the usefulness and ease of use of XRSG through their behavior, providing a basis for technology acceptance in surgery.

Parental Perspectives of Work-Family Conflict and Guilt in Collegiate Athletic Trainers: A Descriptive Qualitative Design.

Work-family guilt has been reported among athletic trainers (ATs) working in the intercollegiate setting; however, it has yet to be fully explored from a descriptive, in-depth perspective. To better understand the experiences of work-family conflict and guilt of intercollegiate ATs who are parents. Descriptive qualitative study. Intercollegiate athletics. Twelve collegiate ATs (females = 6, males = 6) participated in the study. All 12 were married (12 ± 7 years) with an average 2 ± 1 children (range = 1-4). The ATs reported working 51 ± 9 hours per week and spending 11 ± 7 hours per week on household duties or chores. One-on-one interviews were conducted with all participants. An inductive descriptive coding process was used to analyze the data after saturation was met. Peer review and researcher triangulation were completed. Conflict and guilt were discussed as unavoidable given the equally demanding roles of AT and parent. The resulting guilt was bidirectional, as each role is equally important to the AT. The management theme was specifically defined by 3 subthemes: creating a separation between work and parenting roles, the benefits of having a supportive workplace, and the importance of having coworkers and supervisors with shared life experiences. The ATs experienced work-family conflict and feelings of guilt from their parental responsibilities. The guilt described by the ATs was bidirectional, as they placed high value on both their parenting and athletic training roles. Guilt was balanced and managed by reducing the spillover from the parental role into work or work into time at home. By separating roles and having supportive workplace environments, including coworkers and supervisors who had similar life experiences, ATs felt they were better able to meet work and home demands.

Addressing Changes in Professional Behavior by Teacher Bonuses: A Mixed-Methods Approach

How can a bonus program affect the performance of teachers in classrooms? This paper collected data from teachers employed in Brazilian state-run schools to examine the key mechanisms through which a teacher bonus scheme can have a causal effect on the academic achievements of students. Using mixed-methods research and data triangulation from questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with teachers, this study finds limited empirical evidence supporting the bonus program of the state of São Paulo. The bonus program created no additional incentive for educators to start/continue working in state schools, and it was not responsible for the improvement of teaching activities.

Concept maps and visualisation as a means of triangulation in management accounting and control research

PurposeInterpretive research in management accounting and control provides rich insights from empirically based studies, but it has been criticised for lacking generalisability and potential subjectivity. On the latter, triangulation is useful, and this paper aims to offer some insights on a triangulation technique thus far not commonly reported in management accounting/control research.Design/methodology/approachDrawing on a study of the roles of management accountants in performance management systems, this paper offers some insights from empirical experiences on the use of concept maps as a tool to assist triangulation and improve understanding of complex empirical phenomena.FindingsThe concept maps as utilised revealed additional insights which were not recounted by interviewees during the normal interview time. This is a potentially important finding for consideration of future researchers.Practical implicationsIn this paper, how concept maps were used is detailed, and it is hoped that future researchers will find their use beneficial in interview settings.Originality/valueThus far, concept maps seem under-utilised in management accounting and control research. This paper gives some initial insights on how they may be used in case study settings.

Separate collection and bio-waste valorization in the Italian poultry sector by material flow analysis

Poultry meat production and consumption face several challenges under economic, social and environmental perspectives, and increasing concerns are associated with food loss and waste minimization. One of the main issues is related to the absence of a homogeneous and standardized separate collection of bio-waste at country level, which makes chicken bones, skin and food waste valorization a challenging goal. The present research, implementing the material flow analysis to the Italian poultry sector, aims at measuring poultry-related co-products and by-products, exploring food waste, chicken bones and skin and the current trends in the Italian bio-waste separate collection. Then, it discusses alternative separate collection strategies and sustainable consumption habits. Data have been collected according to a research triangulation approach, whereas system boundaries consider slaughterhouse, distribution and final consumption stage. It emerges that more than 1.50 Mt of live animals have been processed to obtain 0.46 Mt of fresh meat and 0.76 Mt of co-products and by-products, of which more than 0.32 Mt are represented by chicken bones and skin. In addition, more than 0.15 Mt of food waste have been recorded. The research adds an extra step towards the identification of awareness campaigns and separate collection strategies at national level.

Posttraumatic stress and psychological impacts of human wildlife conflict on victims, their families and caretakers in Botswana

ABSTRACT This article highlighted the consequences associated with negative human-nature interactions among local communities and the complexities that stakeholders deal with (or do not) when it comes to human-wildlife conflict (HWC). The study utilized concurrent triangulation research design to ascertain the magnitude as well as explore the psychosocial impacts of HWC on primary, secondary, and vicarious victims. The key findings revealed that local people exposed to life threatening wildlife attacks express fear and animosity toward wild animals and often feel rejected and disappointed from a fragmented government service delivery system. Unsightly scars and repeated surgeries on victims of HWC remind them of the horrific and traumatic events of their encounters with wildlife. The results offer valuable insights into the social and psychological impacts HWC. Psychosocial intervention and constructive surgery are required to enable HWC victims to face their new normal after these accidents.

JEJAK KOLONIAL DAN PERAN ORIENTALISME DALAM KUMPULAN CERPEN TEH DAN PENGHIANAT KARYA IKSAKA BANU

The colonial period was the planting of orientalist concepts towards the East, where the differences between East and West were very much shown. This of course did not escape the views of several Indonesian writers and writers who then tried to record this phenomenon in their literary works. One of the Indonesian writers, Iksaka Banu, who discusses the conflict between the natives and the Dutch, the Dutch and ethnic Chinese, to the conflict between the Dutch and the Dutch in various experiences and one of them is Iksaka Banu's latest collection of short stories entitled Teh dan Penghianat which was just published in 2019. This research using qualitative descriptive method aims to describe the form and role of orientalism in the collection of Teh and the traitor by Iksaka Banu by taking two short stories as material for analysis, namely 'Teh dan Pengianat' and ‘Belenggu Emas’. The data collection technique was carried out by document study techniques in short stories, namely by collecting data in the form of document archives, including books and journals. Meanwhile, the data triangulation process in the form of theoretical triangulation, data source triangulation and researcher triangulation, was carried out by the author to check the validity of the data. By using the theory put forward by Edward Said, this research concludes that in the short story Teh dan Pengtangan, there can be found several depictions of the East in the context of orientalism which symbolized by indigenous and ethnic Chinese. Meanwhile, in the short story Belenggu Emas, the depiction of the east in the context of orientalism is described as an indigenous community that needs to be improved or educated

Effects of lean distributed manufacturing on factory’s resilience: the current practice in UK food manufacturing sector

PurposeLean distributed manufacturing (LDM) is being considered as an enabler of achieving sustainability and resilience in manufacturing and supply chain operations. The purpose of this paper is to enhance the understanding of how LDM characteristics affect the resilience of manufacturing companies by drawing upon the experience of food manufacturing companies operating in the UK.Design/methodology/approachThe paper develops a conceptual model to analyse the impact of LDM on the operational resilience of food manufacturing companies. A triangulation research methodology (secondary data analysis, field observations and structured interviews) is used in this study. In a first step, LDM enablers and resilience elements are identified from literature. In a second step, empirical evidence is collected from six food sub-sectors aimed at identifying LDM enablers being practised in companies.FindingsThe analysis reveals that LDM enablers can improve the resilience capabilities of manufacturing companies at different stages of resilience action cycle, whereas the application status of different LDM enablers varies in food manufacturing companies. The findings include the development of a conceptual model (based on literature) and a relationship matrix between LDM enablers and resilience elements.Practical implicationsThe developed relationship matrix is helpful for food manufacturing companies to assess their resilience capability in terms of LDM characteristics and then formulate action plans to incorporate relevant LDM enablers to enhance operational resilience.Originality/valueBased on the literature review, no studies exist that investigate the effects of LDM on factory’s resilience, despite many research studies suggesting distributed manufacturing as an enabler of sustainability and resilience.

Professional Socialization: A Retrospective View From Graduation to Full-Time Employment

Context It is assumed that after the transition to practice, athletic trainers will have developed stronger decision-making strategies, will have become comfortable within their role, and will be able to reflect on how their employer assisted them through the transition-to-practice process. Objective The goal of this study was to gain an understanding of how athletic trainers have gone through the transition-to-practice process and what resources they relied on during and after the transition. Design Qualitative study, phenomenological design. Setting Semistructured interviews. Patients or Other Participants Twelve athletic trainers (10 women, 2 men; 4.0 ± 2 years certified) agreed to participate. Data saturation guided the total number of participants for this study. Data Collection and Analysis Videoconference interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim using Zoom. Credibility of the study was maintained using several mechanisms, including expert/peer review, member checks, and researcher triangulation. Results Two themes emerged as different points in time of the athletic trainer's transition to practice. The first theme was pre–entrance into the workforce, and within this theme, athletic trainers were able to reflect on the strategies and resources that were provided to them by their professional master of athletic training program. Within the second theme, post–entrance into the workforce, athletic trainers were able to recall the resources that were provided to them by their employers and those additional resources that were sought out individually. Conclusions Athletic trainers recognized how their master of athletic training programs prepared them for the transition-to-practice process based on the didactic coursework and intentional clinical education experiences. Athletic trainers also recognized the resources that were and were not provided to them to assist them in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities, as well as realizing the additional resources they needed to enhance their own clinical practice.

Teacher Practices in the Implementation of the New Business Subjects’ Curriculum in Uganda: A Case of Selected Secondary Schools in Kabale District

The study aimed at identifying the teacher practices that support the implementation of the new business subjects’ curriculum in selected secondary schools of Kabale district, Uganda. The study was underpinned by Ralph W. Tyler’s (1949) principles of curriculum theory. Based on the pragmatist perspective, a concurrent triangulation research design was adopted. Data were collected from 37 business subject teachers and 13 directors of studies across 13 secondary schools in Kabale district, making a total of 50 participants. Data were collected using semi-structured in-depth interview schedules, and survey questionnaires. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics while qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis approach by Braun and Clarke (2006). Findings revealed that ICT integration, assessment and evaluation, lesson planning, use of teaching aids, and integration of teaching methods were the major teacher practices that business subject teachers use to support implementation of the new business subjects’ curriculum. It emerged that business subject teachers had some knowledge on ICT; were fully equipped in designing assessment items; dominated class sessions with both teacher-centeredness and learner-centeredness; and prepared prior actual implementation process for consistency and timely completion of the syllabus. The quantitative findings revealed that: the majority (56%) of business subject teachers applied a combination of teacher practices in a single lesson. The findings provide insights into the teacher practices that support business subject’s teachers in the implementation of the new curriculum and could be useful in informing the development of guidelines for the implementation of the same.

Clinical Education Coordinators' Selection and Deselection Criteria of Clinical Education Experiences

Context Athletic training students have identified clinical education as the most important aspect of their education when transitioning to practice. However, athletic training students have been frustrated with a lack of engagement, mentorship, and diversity within their clinical education experiences. As such, the selection and deselection of clinical sites is critical to creating effective learning experiences. Objective To explore how clinical education coordinators (CECs) select and deselect clinical education experiences (sites and preceptors) for clinical integration and immersion. Design Consensual qualitative research. Setting Individual teleconference interviews. Patients or Other Participants Thirteen CECs (age = 42 ± 8 years, experience in current role = 8 ± 8 years) from accredited professional master's programs who were in their position for at least 1 year and had at least 1 immersive rotation. Data Collection and Analysis All interviews were audio recorded and transcribed. A 3-person data analysis team used a multiphase process to identify the emerging domains and categories. Trustworthiness was established through member checking, multiple researcher triangulation, and auditing. Results Two themes emerged from the participant responses: accreditation compliance and strategic choices. We found participants expressed the theme of accreditation compliance as a major facilitator when selecting or deselecting clinical education placements. Strategic choices, such as student aspirations and focus on the quantity over the quality, were used by CECs to select clinical education placements which develop student autonomy and provide diverse experiences. However, the CECs engaged in convenient preceptor selection based on geographical location and previous relationships. Conclusion(s) Our findings suggest CECs leverage convenient clinical education opportunities that comply with accreditation expectations. CECs should be strategically selecting clinical education opportunities that move beyond accreditation minimum standards and focus on high-quality experiential learning, which leads to autonomous practice and embraces the diversity of the profession.

Implementation of Visualization and Modeling Technologies for Transportation Construction

State departments of transportation (DOTs) increasingly use visualization and modeling technologies for delivering transportation projects across the United States. Advanced and innovative technologies have the ability to improve various construction processes and tasks while making the construction process more efficient and productive. Visualization and modeling technologies, which include building information modeling for infrastructure, light detection and ranging, virtual reality, and augmented reality, are becoming more commonplace in transportation construction. Yet, the use of these technologies varies among state DOTs. The intent of this study is to investigate the use of visualization and modeling technologies for transportation construction. This study employed a triangulation research methodology including an extensive literature review, survey questionnaire of DOTs, and seven case studies. Results of the study show that 92% of state DOTs use visualization and modeling technologies for construction. Then, 81% of DOTs use visualization and modeling technologies for constructability reviews, 38% use them for documentation of as-builts and simulating bridge and structure construction, and 35% use them for quality management, inspections, and monitoring progress of work. The main barriers to using visualization and modeling technologies include legal concerns with using digital models as contract documents, incompatibilities in software and hardware between the DOTs and contracted parties, and the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities required to use visualization and modeling technologies for construction. The findings from this study provides valuable information for state DOTs to approach their implementation and use of visualization and modeling technologies for transportation construction delivery.
