The National Science Foundation is inviting proposals for support from its Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program. NSF provides two kinds of support for projects that provide active research opportunities for undergraduates: REU Site grants to fund new programs for undergraduate research, and REU Supplement grants that may be added on to existing NSF research grants in order to fund undergraduate participation. The goal of the REU Program is to provide opportunities for undergraduates to become involved in research and to gain otherwise unobtainable experience in mathematical and scientific fields. Proposals for REU funding should address the philosophy of the proposer's approach to undergraduate education. Programs that would encourage participation from groups that are underrepresented in scientific fields are especially encouraged.
