A digital-computer representation of the cochlear partition has been developed based on the model of Lein [Monograph 212, Biomedical Computer Laboratory, Washington University, St. Louis 1973]. First, a discrete-element representation of the model was developed, which is of the Zwislocki type with each resistance replaced by an infinite R-L ladder network. Suitable approximations were obtained with severely truncated networks. Secondly, a 100-section digital-computer representation was developed, using an adaptive, time-sampled, iterative algorithm that runs at approximately 10 samples per cycle for the highest frequency involved. Steady-state results will be compared with those computed by Lein using the Hamming method. The model was further modified to have lower, nonlinear resistances. The output of the modified model will be compared to experimental data obtained by Rhode and Robles [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 55, 588–596 (1974)].
