Automated remote management and control system of the laboratory equipment

The paper deals with the hardware and software implementation of automated remote management system of laboratory equipment for studying fundamentals of electronics and circuit technology. This system gives the possibility to create the virtual model of a real stand. The original software has enabled to compare information from the memory of microcontroller keeping in laboratory stands with etalon model, and reveal discrepancies of set connections and template data. Graphical interface allows for operation control of students and correction of studying process. Automation of configuring and the following checking procedures has accelerated the work and decreased error frequency, made it possible to improve the quality of learning, increase efficiency of laboratory researches and control accuracy, intensify the check procedure and use self-checking in case of independent execution of tasks.

In this paper, a novel intelligent healthcare system and the sensor network deployment strategy based on the multimodal fused information are analysed. The system could be analysed from two levels, the systematic level and the specific level. From the systematic perspective, the focus is the health monitoring system based on the cloud computing platform. The specific level is the embedded technology in application of the medical equipment. This study will be the medical care combined with the general cloud technology, mobile technology, built a cloud platform sharing of medical information system, for medical institutions and patients and family members and the other related personnel to provide the fast and efficient service which can be reflected from the three aspects. (1) Medical end. The doctor can view the patient's medical records from medical terminal clouds or some other physiological information. (2) The pulse signal detection and processing. (3) Cloud platform management system. Cloud management platform is mainly through the remote medical management system to conduct the core comprehensive business management. The experiment result proves the feasibility of the system.

Micro-Thermoelectric Generation Modules Fabricated with Low-Cost Mechanical Machining Processes

Micro/small-scale thermoelectric generation modules are able to produce continuous, noise-free and reliable electricity power using low temperature differences that widely exist in nature or industry. These advantages bring them great application prospects in the fields of remote monitoring, microelectronics/micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), medical apparatus and smart management system, which often require a power source free of maintenance and vibration. In this work, a prototypical thermoelectric module (12 mm × 12 mm × 0.8 mm) with 15 pairs of micro-scale thermoelectric legs (0.2 mm in width and 0.6 mm in height for each leg) is fabricated using a low-cost mechanical machining process. In this process, cutting and polishing are the main methods for the preparation of thermoelectric pairs from commercial polycrystalline materials and for the fabrication of electrode patterns. The as-fabricated module is tested for its power generation properties with the hot side heated by an electrical heater and the cold side by cold air. With the heater temperature of 375 K, the thermoelectric potential is about 9.1 mV, the short circuit current is about 14.5 mA, and the maximum output power is about 32.8 μW. The finite element method is applied to analyze the heat transfer of the module during our test. The temperature difference and heat flux are simulated, according to which the output powers at different temperatures are calculated, and the result is relatively consistent compared to the test results.

The design of remote discharge scenario management system on EAST

The discharge scenarios on EAST plasma control system (PCS), characterized by different waveform parameters and different hardware requirements, will need a systematic discharge scenario management system for remote and local operators, in order to optimize storage structure and rationally manage discharge time. The remote management of discharge scenarios will require extending the functionalities of the present PCS “future shot” and “next shot” modules. Taking advantage of database technique, the operators can acquire detail information of all discharge scenarios directly without PCS user interface and search the specified scenarios by key words. In addition, the system can elect optimal scenarios automatically based on discharge schedule and plasma pulse setting for later artificial selection. To this purpose, a new remote discharge scenario management system (RDSMS) basis for Web is being conceived on EAST. The system contains a database with functions of “user management”, “scenario verification”, “prepared scenario management”, “actual discharge scenario management” and “discharge schedule management”. This paper will present the relevant conceptual design and give an account of the test results for implementation on EAST discharges.

Two Countermeasures Against Hardware Trojans Exploiting Non-Zero Aliasing Probability of BIST

The threat of hardware Trojans has been widely recognized by academia, industry, and government agencies. A Trojan can compromise security of a system in spite of cryptographic protection. The damage caused by a Trojan may not be limited to a business or reputation, but could have a severe impact on public safety, national economy, or national security. An extremely stealthy way of implementing hardware Trojans has been presented by Becker et al. at CHES'2012. Their work have shown that it is possible to inject a Trojan in a random number generator compliant with FIPS 140-2 and NIST SP800-90 standards by exploiting non-zero aliasing probability of Logic Built-In-Self-Test (LBIST). In this paper, we present two methods for modifying LBIST to prevent such an attack. The first method makes test patterns dependent on a configurable key which is programed into a chip after the manufacturing stage. The second method uses a remote test management system which can execute LBIST using a different set of test patterns at each test cycle.

Virtual Machine Co-migration for Out-of-band Remote Management

In Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) clouds, users manage the systems in virtual machines (VMs) called user VMs through remote management systems (RMSes). To allow users to manage their VMs during failures inside the VMs, IaaS usually provides out-of-band remote management. This management is performed indirectly via an RMS server in a privileged VM called the management VM. However, it is discontinued when a user VM is migrated. This is because an RMS server in the management VM at the source host is terminated on VM migration. Even worse, pending data is lost between an RMS client and a user VM. In this paper, we propose D-MORE for continuing out-of-band remote management across VM migration. D-MORE provides a privileged and migratable VM called DomR and performs out-of-band remote management of a user VM via DomR. During VM migration, it synchronously co-migrates DomR and its target VM and transparently maintains the connections between an RMS client, DomR, and its target VM. We have implemented D-MORE in Xen and confirmed that a remote user could manage his VM via DomR after the VM has been migrated. Our experiments showed that input data was not lost during VM migration and the overhead of D-MORE was acceptable.

A Healthcare Information System for Secure Delivery and Remote Management of Medical Records

With the rapid merger of healthcare business and information technology, more healthcare institutions and medical practices are sharing information. Since these records often contain patients’ sensitive personal information, Healthcare Information Systems (HISs) should be properly designed to manage these records in a secure manner. We propose a novel security design for the HIS complying with the security and privacy rules. The proposed system defines protocols to ensure secure delivery of medical records over insecure public networks and reliable management of medical record in the remote server without incurring excessive costs to implement services for security. Investments and benefits in computer supported systems for remote monitoring and management in real time

Contemporary computer supported technologies unify a multitude of functions, from geological explorations, through planning, design, mining, auxiliary and logistic activities, monitoring, analysis, decision making to the real time management. This approach requires the information-management systems with a multi-level hierarchy structure, with high monitoring-management efficiency. Accepting the challenges of time, the Serbian mining took the starting position in this technological game timely, with some good ideas and projects, but without efficient realization. There is an opposite example however, in 2000, a computer system for remote monitoring and management in the real time at the 'Majdan III' open pit mine was built. Fourteen years of continual monitoring of this systems operation and the quantity of technical and technological data on its functioning, has provided a reliable and objective depicting of the monitoring-management efficiency, investments, costs and benefits. This paper presents the actual results achieved with this system and comparatively analyze investments and benefits for the similar systems in coal and non-ferrous metal mines.

PSTN 환경에 최적화된 RAS-RMS 연동 프로토콜 개발 및 차별화된 처리과정 구축

The emergency call device has been installed and operated for the elevator passenger safety, but the call can not be connected or delay to the operator in an emergency. The application of the Internet of Things(IoT) technology is required for the systematic management and reliability of the emergency call device installed in the elevator. To meet these requirements it is necessary to apply the RMS(Remote Management System). Emergency call device periodically reports the operating status information and the emergency call history information of the emergency call device to the RMS in the PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) environment, and transmits the call request information in an emergency. RAS(Remote Access Server) plays a role of converting the PSTN signals to TCP / IP. RMS reports a significant outbreak call and abnormal operating conditions to administrators. In this study, we developed optimized protocol to PSTN environment that is required by RMS and implemented its differentiated process. And a RAS-RMS Protocol was added to the Application Layer. Development protocol consisting of simple structure as compared to CoAP, MQTT or HTTP can work properly in low-spec CPU and transmit elevator emergency key information easily.

The Patient Remote Intervention and Symptom Management System (PRISMS) – a Telehealth- mediated intervention enabling real-time monitoring of chemotherapy side-effects in patients with haematological malignancies: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial

BackgroundOutpatient chemotherapy is a core treatment for haematological malignancies; however, its toxicities frequently lead to distressing/potentially life-threatening side-effects (neutropenia/infection, nausea/vomiting, mucositis, constipation/diarrhoea, fatigue). Early detection/management of side-effects is vital to improve patient outcomes, decrease morbidity and limit lengthy/costly hospital admissions. The ability to capture patient-reported health data in real-time, is regarded as the ‘gold-standard’ to allow rapid clinical decision-making/intervention. This paper presents the protocol for a Phase 3 multi-site randomised controlled trial evaluating a novel nurse-led Telehealth intervention for remote monitoring/management of chemotherapy side-effects in Australian haematological cancer patients.Methods/DesignTwo hundred and twenty-two patients will be recruited from two hospitals. Eligibility criteria include: diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia/Hodgkin’s/non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma; aged ≥ 18 years; receiving ≥ 2 cycles chemotherapy. Patients will be randomised 1:1 to either the control or intervention arm with stratification by diagnosis, chemotherapy toxicity (high versus low), receipt of previous chemotherapy and hospital. Patients allocated to the control arm will receive ‘Usual Care’ whilst those allocated to the intervention will receive the intervention in addition to ‘Usual Care’. Intervention patients will be provided with a computer tablet and software prompting twice-daily completion of physical/emotional scales for up to four chemotherapy cycles. Should patient data exceed pre-determined limits an Email alert is delivered to the treatment team, prompting nurses to view patient data, and contact the patient to provide clinical intervention. In addition, six scheduled nursing interventions will be completed to educate/support patients in use of the software. Patient outcomes will be measured cyclically (midpoint and end of cycles) via pen-and-paper self-report alongside review of the patient medical record. The primary outcome is burden due to nausea, mucositis, constipation and fatigue. Secondary outcomes include: burden due to vomiting and diarrhoea; psychological distress; ability to self-manage health; level of cancer information/support needs and; utilisation of health services. Analyses will be intention-to-treat. A cost-effectiveness analysis is planned.DiscussionThis trial is the first in the world to test a remote monitoring/management intervention for adult haematological cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Future use of such interventions have the potential to improve patient outcomes/safety and decrease health care costs by enabling early detection/clinical intervention.Trial registrationACTRN12614000516684.Date registered: 12 March 2014 (registered retrospectively).

Interoperating remote laboratory management systems (RLMSs) for more efficient sharing of laboratory resources

In this paper we propose a novel Application Programming Interface (API) design pattern for inter-communication between Remote Laboratory Management Systems (RLMSs) accommodating different levels of functional support and thereby allowing more efficient sharing of laboratory resources regardless of their hosting RLMS. Afterwards, we present initial results and demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of this pattern by developing an API for two common RLMSs, Sahara and the iLab shared Architecture (ISA). As a result, users logging into a Sahara server managed to access and manipulate a radio-activity experiment hosted on an ISA server.

Modeling Inpatient Glucose Management Programs on Hospital Infection Control Programs: An Infrastructural Model of Excellence

Objective: Better glycemic control for hospitalized diabetic patients significantly reduces health expenditures and improves disease outcomes. We developed a dynamic dashboard with a remote management system and evaluated its impact on inpatient glycemic control.Methods: This was an observational institution-wide study; study participants were enrolled from a 1,500-bed public medical center from 2016 to 2018. We evaluated the impact of a dynamic dashboard system, which analyzed and monitored all glucose data with virtual glycemic management recommendation by a team of endocrinologists, over 3 × 1-year periods: 2016 (pre-implementation), 2017 (development), and 2018 (implementation).Results: A total of 51,641 discharges with 878,159 blood glucose measurements were obtained during the 3-year period. After implementation of the dashboard system, the proportion of patients with poor glycemic control (hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia) was reduced by 31% (from 10.2 to 7.0 per day per 100 patients with glucose monitoring; P<.001); hyperglycemia decreased by 25% (from 6.1 to 4.6 per day per 100 patients with glucose monitoring; P<.001), and hypoglycemia decreased by 45% (from 4.2 to 2.3 per day per 100 patients with glucose monitoring; P<.001). Furthermore, the trend in the proportion of patients within the treat-to-target range showed significant improvement (P<.001) during the development period, with effectiveness maintained throughout the implementation period.Conclusion: We successfully installed a dynamic, electronic medical records-based dashboard monitoring system to improve inpatient glycemic control. PTU-315 Coeliac – supported, self help and management programme (c-sshamp); uk’s first remote web-based management system for stable coeliac patients

<h3>Introduction</h3> The 1:150 prevalence of coeliac patients in UK carries an economic burden and has created a dilemma for the NHS in how best to deal with the increasing numbers. The 2010 BSG guidelines on the “Management of coeliac disease in UK”,¹advocates that all coeliac patients should receive longterm review with someone experienced in coeliac management. Many Clinical Commissioning Groups have therefore recommended discharging these patients for community review. Unfortunately, we often find that these patients have not received the appropriate care and support they need, and are being re-referred back to the hospital once potentially avoidable long-term complications have already occurred. We set out to try and prevent this by developing a alternative, cost efficient, safe and effective method of managing our stable coeliac patients. <h3>Method</h3> A 7 year retrospective analysis of all serology, duodenal histology and dietetic referrals requested through the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital was used to create a database of all local coeliac patients. With the support of Coeliac UK and our own local Coeliac Forum Group, we have developed personalised web-sites, using Patient Knows Best (PKB), to assist with the remote management of community based coeliac patients, whilst still providing hospital based specialist over-view. <h3>Results</h3> We now have a database of 1264 coeliac patients. Since January 2014 we have steadily started moving our more stable patients on to our Coeliac – Supported, Self Help And Management Programme (C-SSHAMP). Presently this offers a personalised websites with a novel coeliac symptomatic monitoring system, an alert system if a patient score badly, a library of self help advice sheets and a record of their virtual consultations. The system provides a direct portal of access between patients and their specialists, can be converted into 14 different languages and has both iPhone or Android apps developed. Annually blood tests are reviewed through a virtual (telephone) clinic to monitor and support patients. <h3>Conclusion</h3> C-SSHAMP is the first remote web-based management system in UK for stable coeliac disease patients. We believe we can automate much of the BSG guidance about annual review, whilst providing a “remote” presence which will act as a gentle reminder to improve compliance with acceptance and adjustment to a strict gluten free diet. Evaluation of a Remote Monitoring System for Diabetes Control

PurposeThe use of technology to implement cost-effective health care management on a large scale may be an alternative for diabetes management but needs to be evaluated in controlled trials. This study assessed the utility and cost-effectiveness of an automated Diabetes Remote Monitoring and Management System (DRMS) in glycemic control versus usual care. MethodsIn this randomized, controlled study, patients with uncontrolled diabetes on insulin were randomized to use of the DRMS or usual care. Participants in both groups were followed up for 6 months and had 3 clinic visits at 0, 3, and 6 months. The DRMS used text messages or phone calls to remind patients to test their blood glucose and to report results via an automated system, with no human interaction unless a patient had severely high or low blood glucose. The DRMS made adjustments to insulin dose(s) based on validated algorithms. Participants reported medication adherence through the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8, and diabetes-specific quality of life through the diabetes Daily Quality of Life questionnaire. A cost-effectiveness analysis was conducted based on the estimated overall costs of DRMS and usual care. FindingsA total of 98 patients were enrolled (59 [60%] female; mean age, 59 years); 87 participants (89%) completed follow-up. HbA1c was similar between the DRMS and control groups at 3 months (7.60% vs 8.10%) and at 6 months (8.10% vs 7.90%). Changes from baseline to 6 months were not statistically significant for self-reported medication adherence and diabetes-specific quality of life, with the exception of the Daily Quality of Life–Social/Vocational Concerns subscale score (P = 0.04). ImplicationsAn automated system like the DRMS may improve glycemic control to the same degree as usual clinic care and may significantly improve the social/vocational aspects of quality of life. Cost-effectiveness analysis found DRMS to be cost-effective when compared to usual care and suggests DRMS has a good scale of economy for program scale up. Further research is needed to determine how to sustain the benefits seen with the automated system over longer periods.

B/S Structure-Based Remote Management System in CNC

A multi-user remote transmission of CNC machining management system was developed based on B/S structure, which combines network management model with CNC machining technologies and replaces the traditional file-copy format. This system not only provides convenience for users to use CNC equipment but also greatly improves efficiency and safety. In this project, a JSP (Java Server Pages) dynamic web site was developed in the MyEclipse environment, which can carry out many functions, including management of users’ information and documents taking advantage of database technology, transmitting and operating NC code and source files which CAD/CAM software generated. This is an attempt of centralized CAD/CAM network manufacturing.

A Multilayer Secure Biomedical Data Management System for Remotely Managing a Very Large Number of Diverse Personal Healthcare Devices.

In this paper, a multilayer secure biomedical data management system for managing a very large number of diverse personal health devices is proposed. The system has the following characteristics: the system supports international standard communication protocols to achieve interoperability. The system is integrated in the sense that both a PHD communication system and a remote PHD management system work together as a single system. Finally, the system proposed in this paper provides user/message authentication processes to securely transmit biomedical data measured by PHDs based on the concept of a biomedical signature. Some experiments, including the stress test, have been conducted to show that the system proposed/constructed in this study performs very well even when a very large number of PHDs are used. For a stress test, up to 1,200 threads are made to represent the same number of PHD agents. The loss ratio of the ISO/IEEE 11073 messages in the normal system is as high as 14% when 1,200 PHD agents are connected. On the other hand, no message loss occurs in the multilayered system proposed in this study, which demonstrates the superiority of the multilayered system to the normal system with regard to heavy traffic.

实验教学是各大高校的实施重点，为满足实验教学需要，让教师有更好的手段进行日常实验教学，学生能更有效的参与到实验环节，并与教师有更充分的交流和互动，同时教学部门也能对实验教学的流程进行监督和监管，设计与研发了一套远程实验课的管理系统，在该远程实验课管理系统的设计基础之上，结合云平台技术进行了进一步的深入分析和扩展，强化了这套系统在云平台上的应用，并能减少后期的运维成本。 Experimental teaching is the implementation focus of colleges and universities. To meet the re-quirements of the experimental teaching, I design a set of management system of the remote ex-periment. In this way, teachers will have a better method for routine experiment teaching, students are more effective to participate in the experiment and have better communication and interaction with teachers, and at the same the teaching departments can process supervision and regulation of experimental teaching. Based on the remote experiment management system design, and combined with cloud platform technology for further in-depth analysis and extension, the ap-plication of the system on the cloud platform can be strengthened, and the late operational cost can be reduced.

PERFORM: a system for monitoring, assessment and management of patients with Parkinson's disease.

In this paper, we describe the PERFORM system for the continuous remote monitoring and management of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. The PERFORM system is an intelligent closed-loop system that seamlessly integrates a wide range of wearable sensors constantly monitoring several motor signals of the PD patients. Data acquired are pre-processed by advanced knowledge processing methods, integrated by fusion algorithms to allow health professionals to remotely monitor the overall status of the patients, adjust medication schedules and personalize treatment. The information collected by the sensors (accelerometers and gyroscopes) is processed by several classifiers. As a result, it is possible to evaluate and quantify the PD motor symptoms related to end of dose deterioration (tremor, bradykinesia, freezing of gait (FoG)) as well as those related to over-dose concentration (Levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID)). Based on this information, together with information derived from tests performed with a virtual reality glove and information about the medication and food intake, a patient specific profile can be built. In addition, the patient specific profile with his evaluation during the last week and last month, is compared to understand whether his status is stable, improving or worsening. Based on that, the system analyses whether a medication change is needed—always under medical supervision—and in this case, information about the medication change proposal is sent to the patient. The performance of the system has been evaluated in real life conditions, the accuracy and acceptability of the system by the PD patients and healthcare professionals has been tested, and a comparison with the standard routine clinical evaluation done by the PD patients' physician has been carried out. The PERFORM system is used by the PD patients and in a simple and safe non-invasive way for long-term record of their motor status, thus offering to the clinician a precise, long-term and objective view of patient's motor status and drug/food intake. Thus, with the PERFORM system the clinician can remotely receive precise information for the PD patient's status on previous days and define the optimal therapeutical treatment.
