Intelligent pet cat care residence design based on cloud platform

In order to provide an intelligent living environment for pet cats, so that owners can understand and control the daily life of pet cats, and communicate and interact with them through voice, a remote pet cat care system was designed. The system uses a remote monitoring function that combines a cloud platform and a camera, allowing owners to keep an eye on their pet cats' movements even when they are away from home. This system uses PLC as the main control unit and STM32 single chip microcomputer as the slave, which can not only collect temperature, humidity, light intensity, pressure and other signals, but also carry out real-time control of the controllable hardware in the system, and transmit the collected data to the cloud platform. 4G communication technology is adopted, and users can remotely complete the intelligent control of all equipment in the system through the cloud platform. To realize real-time monitoring and interaction of pet cats in all aspects; According to the pet cat daily diet, drinking water, exercise and other important data to determine whether the physical health. This can improve the service level of the pet cage industry and inject technological power to make pet cages more intelligent.

Prosthetics for Lower Limb Amputees: A Comprehensive Review of Technologies, Applications, and Future Directions

With improvements in active prosthetics, new possibilities have emerged for managing lower limb amputations, significantly enhancing both functional performance and quality of life for users. Recent technological developments, including electromyography (EMG) sensors, adaptive control systems, real-time feedback mechanisms, and remote-control functionality, have introduced advanced capabilities that mimic natural limb movements, greatly benefiting users of artificial limbs. This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of these advancements and assesses their potential clinical impact. EMG sensors have increased prosthetic control by up to 30% by detecting muscle signals with high precision. Adaptive control systems have enhanced the naturalness of gait by approximately 25%, closely approximating normal human locomotion. Real-time feedback systems, such as haptics and vibration alerts, have improved user confidence and mobility by 40% by providing immediate tactile sensory information about the prosthetic’s position. The addition of remote-control systems has improved efficiency by 20% through easier adjustments and real-time tuning of the prosthesis. Researchers have observed a 35% reduction in recovery time for patients using active prosthetics, which enable quicker walking and reduce the effort required from other limbs. In recreational and sporting contexts, these prosthetics have nearly matched non-amputees in peak speed, achieving up to 50% of human performance in power and non-power metrics. AI-enabled improvements are anticipated to further enhance adaptivity and responsiveness in the future. Overall, these high-tech developments represent a significant advancement in aiding lower limb amputees in their daily lives, with considerable potential for future growth and improvement.

Exosomes derived from diabetic serum accelerate the progression of osteoarthritis

Diabetes mellitus (DM) has been demonstrated to accelerate the progression of osteoarthritis (OA) by largely unknown mechanisms. Studies have shown that DM dysfunctional adipocyte-derived exosomes play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of remote organ functions. The present study aimed to clarify whether and how diabetic adipocyte-derived exosomes mediate the pathological regulation of OA. We found that intraarticular injection of DM serum exosomes in the non-diabetic mice significantly exacerbated OA injury as evidenced by a rough and fractured cartilage surface as well as increased chondrocyte apoptosis, decreased mitochondrial membrane potential (△Ψ) and increased expression of cleaved caspase-3. Mechanistic investigation identified that miR-130b-3p was significantly increased in circulating exosomes derived from DM mice and exosomes derived from HG-treated normal adipocytes, and we demonstrated that transfection of miR-130b-3p mimics significantly exacerbated the mitochondrial function of chondrocytes. Our data also indicated that miR-130b-3p impaired the △Ψ, increased cleaved caspase-3 levels, and decreased the expression of 5′-adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase α1 (AMPKα1), Silent mating-type information regulation 2 homolog 1 (SIRT1), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) in chondrocytes. Pharmacologic activation of AMPKα1 using AICAR reversed the △Ψ and catabolic responses in chondrocytes transfected with miR-130b-3p mimics. Moreover, AICAR decreased the effects of miR-130b-3p mimics on chondrocytes transfected with SIRT1-siRNA or PGC-1α-siRNA. The current study demonstrated that adipocyte-derived exosomal miR-130b-3p under DM conditions suppresses mitochondrial function in chondrocytes through targeting the AMPKα1/SIRT1/PGC1-α pathway, thus exacerbating OA injury.

Remote pulmonary function testing allows for early identification of need for non-invasive ventilation in a subset of persons with ALS

The traditional ALS multidisciplinary clinical practice of quarterly respiratory assessment may leave some individuals in danger of developing untreated respiratory insufficiency between visits or beginning non-invasive ventilation (NIV) later than would be optimal. Remote, or home-based, pulmonary function testing (rPFT) allows patients with ALS to perform regular respiratory testing at more frequent intervals in the home. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical benefit of weekly rPFT compared to standard, quarterly in-clinic respiratory assessments: the number of individuals with earlier identification of NIV need, the magnitude of this advance notice, and the individual factors predicting benefit. Participants with ALS (n = 39) completed rPFT training via telemedicine and then completed one year of weekly self-guided assessments in the home. Over this period, 17 individuals exhibited remotely-measured FVC dropping below 50% of predicted, the value often used for recommendation of NIV initiation. In 13 individuals with clinical detection of this event, the median and range of advance notice of need for NIV was 53 (−61–294) days. Prescription of NIV occurred for 21 individuals on the study, six of whom began NIV as a result of remote testing, prior to indication of need as determined by in-person assessments. Weekly home assessments appeared to be of greatest clinical value in a subset of patients with low baseline respiratory test values and rapid respiratory decline. This has potential implications for clinical management of ALS as well as the conduct of clinical trials that rely on respiratory endpoints.

Objectives This study aims to develop experimental activities using remote-control technology and apply them to prospective middle school chemistry teachers to explore the potential of the developed 'acid-base titration' chemistry inquiry experiment as a new experimental method.
 Methods The participants, consisting of 20 prospective teachers majoring in chemistry education from a university in the central region, engaged in a 4-session experiment where they remotely operated equipment, observed chemical experiment situations, and collected real-time data. Subsequently, based on their remote-controlled experiment experiences, surveys and semi-structured interviews were conducted to assess participants' experiences related to inquiry, alleviation of isolation, and a sense of realism in online settings.
 Results Remote-controlled experiments were divided into 'remote control of equipment' and 'remote control of data processing.'Remote control of equipment' involved sending signals to experimental devices through Blynk, wirelessly transmitting these signals to operate laboratory equipment. 'Remote control of data processing' allowed participants to use remote control functions to store and process experimental data in an Excel file. The developed remote-controlled inquiry experiment program in this study (1) provided prospective middle school chemistry teachers with experiences of basic inquiry functions such as observation and measurement, as well as integrated inquiry functions such as data interpretation and conclusion derivation, even in online experimental situations; (2) confirmed real-time learner-centered interactions, including learner-learner interactions and learner-content/ interface interactions; and (3) demonstrated a high level of presence in terms of teaching, cognitive, and affective realism.
 Conclusions Despite being a remote-based experiment class, it was evident that providing prospective teachers with opportunities for experiences and interactions in scientific inquiry activities could alleviate isolation and enhance a sense of realism. This study is expected to offer insights into designing and implementing the entire process of inquiry teaching in an online context.

The study aims to alleviate the pressure of operation and maintenance of primary and secondary power equipment and improve the work efficiency of operation and maintenance personnel. It explores the early elimination of safety hazards in power equipment and hopes to ensure the safe operation of the power grid. This article designs a remote operation and maintenance master station architecture for power equipment, through specialized power operation and maintenance communication protocols and file transmission methods. It summarizes data to the operation and maintenance master station. The data is then analyzed and processed. The operation and maintenance personnel of equipment with safety hazards are promptly notified. Further, the study distinguishes whether faulty equipment needs on-site operation and maintenance through intelligent technology. It provides remote operation and maintenance functions for power equipment. It reduces the number of on-site operations and maintenance personnel. It improves the level of refined management and operation and maintenance capabilities of equipment. The study has a certain reference value for remote operation and maintenance technology of power equipment.

The Metaverse Smart Farm is a system that combines the digital virtual world with advanced agricultural technology. With this system, farmers can monitor the health of their animals in real time without having to visit the barns, and analyze the data collected through sensors and cameras for more efficient agricultural management. In addition, the barn environment can be adjusted through a remote control function, which is expected to reduce labor and revitalize the livestock industry.

Development of Solar Panel Monitoring System On Automatic Meter Reading

In dealing with era society 5.0, a gas company uses the Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system, which is a remote data reading automation technology system for measuring instrument data in the field, which then conveys the information to the center via communication media data. In the Metering/Regulating Station (M/RS) installation, AMR is connected to the Electronic Volume Converter (EVC) which functions to transmit data from measuring instrument readings in the EVC to the data collection server. The modem on the AMR system uses a power supply from the solar panel system during the day and a battery system at night. The system for handling incomplete data disturbances is currently still in corrective action due to the unavailability of a solar panel monitoring system in the AMR system, causing difficulties for the team in conducting root cause analysis due to problems with battery voltage which are unable to cure AMR. To change the operation and maintenance activities of the AMR system, which was previously corrective action into preventive action, the authors will design and build a long-distance integrated solar panel monitoring system at AMR with the following features monitoring temperature, voltage, and current modules of solar panels, monitoring temperature and battery loading, and AMR remote restart function.

Injury minimization after myocardial infarction: focus on extracellular vesicles.

Despite improvements in clinical outcomes following acute myocardial infarction, mortality remains high, especially in patients with severely reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF <30%), emphasizing the need for effective cardioprotective strategies adjunctive to recanalization. Traditional cell therapy has shown equivocal success, shifting the focus to innovative cardioactive biologicals and cell mimetic therapies, particularly extracellular vesicles (EVs). EVs, as carriers of non-coding RNAs and other essential biomolecules, influence neighbouring and remote cell function in a paracrine manner. Compared to cell therapy, EVs possess several clinically advantageous traits, including stability, ease of storage (enabling off-the-shelf clinical readiness), and decreased immunogenicity. Allogeneic EVs from mesenchymal and/or cardiac stromal progenitor cells demonstrate safety and potential efficacy in preclinical settings. This review delves into the translational potential of EV-based therapeutic approaches, specifically highlighting findings from large-animal studies, and offers a synopsis of ongoing early-stage clinical trials in this domain.

COMBINING MAGNETICALLY ASSISTED AND MATRIX-ASSISTED 3D BIOPRINTING FOR ANISOTROPIC TISSUE ENGINEERING

A major obstacle in biofabrication is replicating the organization of the extracellular matrix and cellular patterns found in anisotropic tissues within bioengineered constructs. While magnetically-assisted 3D bioprinting techniques have the potential to create scaffolds that mimic natural biological structures, they currently lack the ability to accurately control the dispersion of magnetic substances within the bioinks without compromising the fidelity of the intended composite. To overcome this dichotomy, the concepts of magnetically- and matrix-assisted 3D bioprinting are combined here. This method preserves the resolution of printed structures by keeping low viscosity bioinks uncrosslinked during printing, which allows for the arrangement of magnetically-responsive microfibers without compromising the structural integrity of the design. Solidification is induced after the microfibers are arranged in the desired pattern. Furthermore, the precise design of these magnetic microfillers permits the utilization of low levels of inorganic materials and weak magnetic field strengths, which reduces the potential risks that may be associated with their use. The effectiveness of this approach is evaluated in the context of tendon tissue engineering, and the results demonstrate that combining the tendons like anisotropic fibrous microstructure with remote magneto-mechanical stimulation during in vitro maturation provides both biochemical and biophysical cues that effectively guide human adipose-derived stem cells towards a tenogenic phenotype In summary, the developed strategy allows the fabrication of anisotropic high-resolution magnetic composites with remote stimulation functionalities, opening new horizons for tissue engineering applications.Acknowledgments: ERC Grant CoG MagTendon nr 772817, BioChips PoC project nr 10106930, (PD/BD/129403/2017), (CEECIND/01375/2017), (2020.03410.CEECIND), (2022.05526.PTDC), (ED481B2019/025).

Open-source software for respiratory rate estimation using single-lead electrocardiograms

Respiratory rate (RR) is a critical vital sign used to assess pulmonary function. Currently, RR estimating instrumentation is specialized and bulky, therefore unsuitable for remote health monitoring. Previously, RR was estimated using proprietary software that extract surface electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform features obtained at several thoracic locations. However, developing a non-proprietary method that uses minimal ECG leads, generally available from mobile cardiac monitors is highly desirable. Here, we introduce an open-source and well-documented Python-based algorithm that estimates RR requiring only single-stream ECG signals. The algorithm was first developed using ECGs from awake, spontaneously breathing adult human subjects. The algorithm-estimated RRs exhibited close linear correlation to the subjects’ true RR values demonstrating an R2 of 0.9092 and root mean square error of 2.2 bpm. The algorithm robustness was then tested using ECGs generated by the ischemic hearts of anesthetized, mechanically ventilated sheep. Although the ECG waveforms during ischemia exhibited severe morphologic changes, the algorithm-determined RRs exhibited high fidelity with a resolution of 1 bpm, an absolute error of 0.07 ± 0.07 bpm, and a relative error of 0.67 ± 0.64%. This optimized Python-based RR estimation technique will likely be widely adapted for remote lung function assessment in patients with cardiopulmonary disease.

Automated Hand Prehension Assessment From Egocentric Video After Spinal Cord Injury.

Hand function assessments in a clinical setting are critical for upper limb rehabilitation after spinal cord injury (SCI) but may not accurately reflect performance in an individual's home environment. When paired with computer vision models, egocentric videos from wearable cameras provide an opportunity for remote hand function assessment during real activities of daily living (ADLs). This study demonstrates the use of computer vision models to predict clinical hand function assessment scores from egocentric video. SlowFast, MViT, and MaskFeat models were trained and validated on a custom SCI dataset, which contained a variety of ADLs carried out in a simulated home environment. The dataset was annotated with clinical hand function assessment scores using an adapted scale applicable to a wide range of object interactions. An accuracy of 0.551±0.139, mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.517±0.184, and F1 score of 0.547±0.151 was achieved on the 5-class classification task. An accuracy of 0.724±0.135, MAE of 0.290±0.140, and F1 score of 0.733±0.144 was achieved on a consolidated 3-class classification task. This novel approach, for the first time, demonstrates the prediction of hand function assessment scores from egocentric video after SCI.

Design and realization of medical remote monitoring system based on computer vision

Abstract Telemedicine systems, with the development of network technology, have gradually become a new trend in the medical field, which can transmit medical information over a long distance so that experts and doctors can diagnose the patient’s condition and provide emergency assistance over a long distance. This paper puts forward the overall design of the remote monitoring system and its construction objectives, and the construction of the monitoring system to demonstrate in detail the objectives, based on the C/S architecture and the TCP protocol cluster is more suitable for the system design program. Machine vision is utilized to simulate the visual function of the human eye, and the parameters are optimized using the excellent likelihood estimation method to process and extract the monitoring image. The blood oxygen saturation, ECG signal, and body temperature information module are designed to capture physiological information from the user. After testing, this designed remote monitoring system successfully realizes the remote monitoring function of the patient’s oxygen saturation, ECG signal, and body temperature. Meanwhile, an error of ±0.1°C was realized in body temperature detection, and the maximum error of blood oxygen saturation detection was 3%, which all meet the relevant standards. With a simple structure and low price, this system proposes a new method for designing a telemedicine monitoring system.

Recent Advances in Ni‐Catalyzed 1,1‐Difunctionalization of Unactivated Olefins

AbstractUnactivated olefins rank amongst the most important feedstocks in organic synthesis. Their availability makes them particularly useful synthons for subsequent functionalization, particularly in a catalytic manner. Driven by the popularity ascribed by nickel catalysis as a new tool to rapidly forge molecular architectures via one‐or two‐electron manifolds, the recent years have witnessed significant advances in Ni‐catalyzed olefin difunctionalization. While 1,2‐difunctionalization or remote functionalization via “chain‐walk” have become mature disciplines for repurposing the potential of olefins as building blocks, it was only recently that extensions of this chemistry to 1,1‐difunctionalization have been possible. This review summarizes the recent advances in Ni‐catalyzed olefin 1,1‐difunctionalization, holding considerable promise as a new powerful strategy for our ever‐growing synthetic repertoire.

Unmanned RC Rover-Bot for Surveillance, Defense and Attack

The increasing demand for efficient and versatile robotic systems has led to the development of unmanned remote-controlled rover-bots. These advanced robotic platforms serve a crucial role in surveillance, defense, and attack operations. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of an unmanned remote-controlled rover-bot designed for versatile missions in the military and security sectors. The rover-bot integrates state-of-the-art technologies, including remote control, autonomous navigation, surveillance sensors, and offensive capabilities. The surveillance capability of the rover-bot is achieved through the integration of high- resolution cameras. These sensors enable real-time video streaming and enhanced situational awareness to the operator. The remote-control functionality allows operators to manipulate the rover-bot's movements, direction, and speed from a safe distance, reducing human exposure in hazardous environments. For defense purposes, the rover-bot is equipped with robust armour plating, providing protection against various threats. Additionally, it can detect and neutralize attacks, ensuring the safety of personnel. In offensive operations, the rover-bot is armed with advanced weapon systems, such as long-range projectiles and non-lethal munitions, enabling it to engage targets effectively. It can be operated at long range distance and can be made in to a succeed bot. To enhance the rover-bot's capabilities, enabling it to navigate complex terrains and avoid obstacles intelligently. This feature allows the rover-bot to operate in both urban and outdoor environments with minimal human intervention. The presented unmanned remote- controlled rover- bot demonstrates great potential in enhancing the effectiveness and safety of surveillance, defense, and attack operations. The integration of advanced technologies and its versatile design make it a valuable asset in military and security scenarios, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of missions while minimizing human risk.

A remote atmospheric pressure plasma-assisted textile functionalization process on polymeric scaffolds for bone tissue engineering

When adopting polylactic acid (PLA) nonwoven for bone tissue engineering scaffolds, the inert and hydrophobic nature of PLA leads to poor biocompatibility and osteoconductivity, and limits the efficiency of applying bioceramic coatings, such as hydroxyapatite (HAp), for surface functionalization. To tackle these issues, a remote atmospheric pressure plasma (APP) system using a bespoke Pyrex chamber and acrylic acid monomer was designed and employed to functionalize the PLA via depositing carboxylic acid functional groups onto its surface. The remote APP showed being polymeric textile-suitable with an improved efficiency on not only immobilizing carboxylic acid functional groups on the PLA nonwoven than conventional systems but also the alternate soaking process for HAp deposition. Being compared with the neat PLA, the plasma-functionalized PLA exhibited a more hydrophilic surface (from 130.49 ± 1.28° to 117.40 ± 2.53°) with a 30-day stability (from 117.40 ± 2.53° to 119.40 ± 0.75°) and showed better biocompatibility (136 % to the neat PLA) with MC3T3-E1 mouse embryonic osteoblast cells after HAp deposition. The presence of carboxylic acid functional groups and HAp (Ca/P ratio of 1.7) was also identified using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and a scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive X-ray analysis.

Transition-metal-catalyzed remote sp2CH functionalization of aryl sulfonic acids was hardly ever realized owing to competitive ortho-CH functionalization of aryl sulfonates and electron-deficient nature of phenyl ring. Herein, with the assistance of a practical biaryl indolyl directing template, palladium-catalyzed remote sp2CH alkylation of aryl sulfonic acids have been achieved in moderate to good yields with exclusive meta selectivity. Moreover, remote meta-selective CH alkynylation of aryl sulfonic acids was also accomplished with a rhodium catalyst. These meta-CH functionalized products proved to be the superior synthetic precursors, which are difficult to access using the conventional strategy.

Designing remote synchronous auditory comprehension assessment for severely impaired individuals with aphasia.

The use of telepractice in aphasia research and therapy is increasing in frequency. Teleassessment in aphasia has been demonstrated to be reliable. However, neuropsychological and clinical language comprehension assessments are not always readily translatable to an online environment and people with severe language comprehension or cognitive impairments have sometimes been considered to be unsuitable for teleassessment. This project aimed to produce a battery of language comprehension teleassessments at the single word, sentence and discourse level suitable for individuals with moderate-severe language comprehension impairments. Assessment development prioritised response consistency and clinical flexibility during testing. Teleassessments were delivered in PowerPoint over Zoom using screen sharing and remote control functions. The assessments were evaluated in 14 people with aphasia and 9 neurotypical control participants. Modifiable assessment templates are available here: https://osf.io/r6wfm/. People with aphasia were able to engage in language comprehension teleassessment with limited carer support. Only one assessment could not be completed for technical reasons. Statistical analysis revealed above chance performance in 141/151 completed assessments. People with aphasia, including people with moderate-severe comprehension impairments, are able to engage with teleassessment. Successful teleassessment can be supported by retaining clinical flexibility and maintaining consistent task demands. What is already known on the subject Teleassessment for aphasia is reliable but assessment of auditory comprehension is difficult to adapt to the online environment. There has been limited evaluation of the ability of people with severe aphasia to engage in auditory comprehension teleassessment. What this paper adds to existing knowledge Auditory comprehension assessment can be adapted for videoconferencing administration while maintaining clinical flexibility to support people with severe aphasia. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? Teleassessment is time and cost effective and can be designed to support inclusion of severely impaired individuals.
