Preface: 5th International Conference on Global Economy, Finance and Humanities Research (GEFHR 2023)

The 2023 5th International Conference on Global Economy, Finance and Humanities Research (GEFHR 2023) has been successfully conducted in New York, USA during October 21-22, 2023. This conference aims at summarizing recent research activities relevant to the advanced development in the global economy, finance management, innovation management, business management, electronic commerce, humanities research, and social science, and facilitate communication among relevant experts.
 More than 120 persons have been participated in GEFHR 2023. About 60 presentations including 5 invited talks were presented. The presentations are grouped into 5 areas of particular interest: (1) Global Economy, (2) Finance Management, (3) Business Management, (4) Electronic Commerce, and (5) Humanities Research. We are indebted to all of authors for submitting their original papers. We would like to thank all members of International Board, members of Organizing Committee, and my gratitude to all those who help the success of this conference.

Just Run: Development of a theory-based motivational online intervention for promoting ongoing running participation

Running is a popular form of physical activity yet discontinuation is common. Interventions targeting physical activity adoption have shown modest effects, often with little translation into long-term participation, which may limit the health benefits available to the wider community. This paper details the development of a new online running intervention (Just Run) aimed at improving continuation of running activity in new runners through a motivational and psychological lens, including aspects of design, content, refinement, and usability testing. A six-step intervention mapping process was used to develop a theory-based online intervention using a mix of research designs. Key stakeholders including runners, coaches and relevant experts in physical activity and behavior change provided valuable insight, feedback and refinement of the education to be delivered. The final Just Run intervention included ten modules delivered online over twelve weeks to promote ongoing running participation through videos, testimonials, and activities. Key themes identified through the literature and stakeholder engagement process related to goal setting, self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, social support and overcoming barriers to running participation. Usability testing confirmed the quality and suitability of the education to the target population. Just Run has been developed with a range of stakeholders to address an area of unmet need in the adoption and promotion of running. Just Run is a robust online intervention that has been designed and pre-tested with positive feedback and unique insights from key stakeholders. Further investigation is required to support its implementation to the wider community.

Developing a psychoeducational programme for family caregivers of people living with late stage dementia

AbstractBackgroundFamily caregivers often find it difficult to access information and support in the later stages of dementia. They may have difficulties attending in‐person support groups due to caring responsibilities. If caregivers are able to attend these groups, the information and support is often targeted towards the earlier stages of dementia.MethodAn eight session psychoeducational programme was developed in order to enable caregivers to access peer support and information from professionals with expertise relevant to the later stages of dementia. The programme sessions are held over Zoom and include the following topics: sensory stimulation, nutrition diet and swallowing, legal matters, care in the home and care homes, palliative care and pain management, funeral planning and brain donation. Sessions are co‐facilitated by health and social care professionals with relevant expertise, including a speech and language therapist, dietitian, solicitor and palliative care practitioner. Themes and session content have been co‐created through partnership working between facilitators and programme participants.ResultThe programme has been completed by four groups of caregivers (n = 26). All participants care for someone living with a rare or young onset form of dementia, and include those caring at home as well as caregivers of people living in a care or nursing home. Participants have reported a number of positive outcomes from attending the programme, with one participant stating: ‘Joining this late stage carers group – I was a bit worried about it… it’s absolutely one of the best things I could have done. In some respects, I wish I could have joined this earlier’. The programme is currently being evaluated using a time and cost survey to determine ongoing feasibility.ConclusionThere is a need for accurate and timely access to information and support for family caregivers of people living with dementia in the later stages. Online psychoeducational programmes provide the opportunity for caregivers to access both peer and professional support in their own homes. The development of this programme has benefited from ongoing and iterative input from both caregivers and professionals in the dementia support field.

Expert consensus on quality control for detecting autoantibodies

Autoantibodies are important biomarkers of autoimmune diseases and crucial for disease diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and the evaluation of disease activity and prognosis. Specifying the requirement of quality control for detecting autoantibodies is essential for accurately reporting relevant results. In 2023, National Clinical Research Center for Dermatologic and Immunologic Diseases (Peking Union Medical College Hospital), Experimental Diagnosis Research Committee, Rheumatology and Immunology Physicians Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Autoantibodies Detection Committee, Chinese Rheumatism Data Center invited relevant clinical and laboratory experts to develop the current consensus based on the national standards, the industry guidelines, the national situation, and the experience of quality control regarding autoantibody detection. This consensus aims to standardize the quality control of autoantibody detection in relevant laboratories in China.

Facial nerve function training in patients with peripheral facial paralysis: an expert consensus.

Facial nerve training can prevent facial expression muscle atrophy and promote the recovery of facial para-lysis in patients with peripheral facial paralysis. However, there is still a lack of specific and unified technical standards for facial nerve training, which results in a variety of clinical training methods and uneven levels. In order to standardize the application of facial nerve function training technology for nursing staff, the study convened relevant domestic experts, based on evidence-based combination with the disease characteristics of peripheral facial paralysis and expert clinical experience, conducted in-depth interviews with experts, expert correspondence and expert meetings, and finally formulated the expert consensus on facial nerve function training in patients with peripheral facial paralysis. Overall, suggestions for standardizing the timing, training methods, evaluation methods, health education and other aspects were provided for clinical reference.

Chinese expert consensus on laparoscopic hepatic segmentectomy and subsegmentectomy navigated by augmented- and mixed-reality technology combined with indocyanine green fluorescence imaging

Abstract Augmented- and mixed-reality technologies have pioneered the realization of real-time fusion and interactive projection for laparoscopic surgeries. Indocyanine green fluorescence imaging technology has enabled anatomical, functional, and radical hepatectomy through tumor identification and localization of target hepatic segments, driving a transformative shift in the management of hepatic surgical diseases, moving away from traditional, empirical diagnostic and treatment approaches toward digital, intelligent ones. The Hepatic Surgery Group of the Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Digital Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Digital Intelligent Surgery Committee of the Chinese Society of Research Hospitals, and Liver Cancer Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association organized the relevant experts in China to formulate this consensus. This consensus provides a comprehensive outline of the principles, advantages, processes, and key considerations associated with the application of augmented reality and mixed-reality technology combined with indocyanine green fluorescence imaging technology for hepatic segmental and subsegmental resection. The purpose is to streamline and standardize the application of these technologies.

Improving the pragmatic usefulness of the scoring matrix for the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). A proposal for a more frequency-based approach: The CFIR-f.

The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) is a well-established framework for systematically identifying key factors influencing the implementation of programs. To enhance the classification of existing CFIR definitions, as well as its +2/-2 scoring system, this study incorporated the views of relevant experts to: i) improve how themes are scored; and ii) utilise more information regarding the frequency with which themes are identified. This structured, frequency-based approach to the CFIR's scoring process has been trialled as the CFIR-frequency (CFIR-f). Researchers thematically analysed semi-structured interview data from four groups of policy and program experts (N = 24) delivering two family-based therapies in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Themes identified by less than 50% were excluded from further analysis. Themes identified by 50% or more of expert participants in the four groups were classified as enablers or barriers using clearly defined criteria. Each theme was allocated a score according to how many experts identified it as an enabler or barrier, and then mapped back onto the latest adaptation of the CFIR comprising 67 constructs. The CFIR-f successfully determined three enablers of, and six barriers to, implementation. Enablers included the family-based therapy programs, therapist training and participant monitoring systems. Barriers included referral, data collection and staffing difficulties, NSW adaptation issues and the suitability and safety of the programs for Aboriginal families. The same enablers and barriers were identified using both the CFIR-f and the original scoring approach, and the identified themes were successfully mapped to almost all CFIR constructs (65/67). This paper proposes a more frequency-based approach to CFIR's scoring process (the CFIR-f). By specifically utilising the frequency with which these barriers and enablers are identified, the CFIR-f engenders a list of ranked themes that service providers and policymakers can use to inform their decisions about program modification and implementation.

On the optimization of calligraphy teaching practice path of fine arts in Xinjiang universities

Strengthening the practice of calligraphy courses in fine arts teaching can not only improve students' professional level, but also cultivate their artistic aesthetic and artistic practice ability, thus enhancing students' cultural accomplishment, cultural consciousness, cultural confidence and the formation of a noble personality. This article analyzes and studies the calligraphy teaching practice path of fine arts major in Xinjiang colleges and universities. Starting from the importance of reforming calligraphy teaching of fine arts major in colleges and universities, this article combs and discusses its practice content and current situation, and puts forward the path strategy to optimize teaching practice for discussion by relevant experts and scholars, so as to promote the development of calligraphy teaching in colleges and universities.

Research on the data platform needs of university faculty and students

In todays world, big data permeates every industry, leading to a substantial increase in research data and driving the scientific paradigm towards data-intensive research. With the development of intensive research, the demand for data processing and analysis is growing, particularly pronounced in the fields of research and management in universities. Currently, education in China is transitioning from informatization to digitization to enhance the quality of education, research by faculty and students, and the overall operational quality of schools, thereby achieving high-quality development in higher education. Digitization has become a crucial innovative path for the modernization of education in China and is an important strategy for building a high-quality education system. However, many university teachers and students still face challenges such as time-consuming and labor-intensive data processing, lack of relevant technical expertise, and difficulty in seeking guidance from professional experts. At the same time, the number of professionals in the big data industry is gradually increasing, and they aspire to enhance their professional skills through practical experience, earn additional income, but lack suitable avenues. To address these market challenges and pain points, fill market gaps, promote the academic and research capabilities of university faculty and students, improve personnel management efficiency, and advance scientific research in China, this survey is conducted to propose practical and feasible suggestions and actively engage in implementation.

The Negative Effects of Travel on Student Athletes Through Sleep and Circadian Disruption.

Collegiate athletes must satisfy the academic obligations common to all undergraduates, but they have the additional structural and social stressors of extensive practice time, competition schedules, and frequent travel away from their home campus. Clearly such stressors can have negative impacts on both their academic and athletic performances as well as on their health. These concerns are made more acute by recent proposals and decisions to reorganize major collegiate athletic conferences. These rearrangements will require more multi-day travel that interferes with the academic work and personal schedules of athletes. Of particular concern is additional east-west travel that results in circadian rhythm disruptions commonly called jet lag that contribute to the loss of amount as well as quality of sleep. Circadian misalignment and sleep deprivation and/or sleep disturbances have profound effects on physical and mental health and performance. We, as concerned scientists and physicians with relevant expertise, developed this white paper to raise awareness of these challenges to the wellbeing of our student-athletes and their co-travelers. We also offer practical steps to mitigate the negative consequences of collegiate travel schedules. We discuss the importance of bedtime protocols, the availability of early afternoon naps, and adherence to scheduled lighting exposure protocols before, during, and after travel, with support from wearables and apps. We call upon departments of athletics to engage with sleep and circadian experts to advise and help design tailored implementation of these mitigating practices that could contribute to the current and long-term health and wellbeing of their students and their staff members.

Supporting clinical decision making in the emergency department for paediatric patients using machine learning: A scoping review protocol.

Machine learning as a clinical decision support system tool has the potential to assist clinicians who must make complex and accurate medical decisions in fast paced environments such as the emergency department. This paper presents a protocol for a scoping review, with the objective of summarising the existing research on machine learning clinical decision support system tools in the emergency department, focusing on models that can be used for paediatric patients, where a knowledge gap exists. The methodology used will follow the scoping study framework of Arksey and O'Malley, along with other guidelines. Machine learning clinical decision support system tools for any outcome and population (paediatric/adult/mixed) for use in the emergency department will be included. Articles such as grey literature, letters, pre-prints, editorials, scoping/literature/narrative reviews, non-English full text papers, protocols, surveys, abstract or full text not available and models based on synthesised data will be excluded. Articles from the last five years will be included. Four databases will be searched: Medline (EBSCO), CINAHL (EBSCO), EMBASE and Cochrane Central. Independent reviewers will perform the screening in two sequential stages (stage 1: clinician expertise and stage 2: computer science expertise), disagreements will be resolved by discussion. Data relevant to the research question will be collected. Quantitative analysis will be performed to generate the results. The study results will summarise the existing research on machine learning clinical decision support tools in the emergency department, focusing on models that can be used for paediatric patients. This holds the promise to identify opportunities to both incorporate models in clinical practice and to develop future models by utilising reviewers from diverse backgrounds and relevant expertise.

Outcomes of the Expectant Management of 10 Cesarean Scar Pregnancy Cases in Patients Who Refused the Termination of Pregnancy.

Expectant management of cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) in patients who refuse termination of pregnancy and continue with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is possible with multidisciplinary care and careful monitoring in a tertiary care center. Doctors with the relevant expertise in managing PAS use highly accurate ultrasound as a tool to diagnose, monitor, and manage this disorder, which enables them to determine appropriate surgical strategies and techniques to achieve optimum maternal and fetal outcomes with minimal blood loss and no major maternal mortality and morbidity. In this study, we aim to evaluate expectant management in such patients. This is a retrospective study of 10 patients with a previous history of a uterine scar. Diagnosed with CSP in the first trimester, they refused to terminate their pregnancy and continued with PAS. We studied them over a period of four years from 2018 to 2022 and managed them at Latifa Hospital, Dubai, UAE. Of the 10 patients, nine delivered in the third trimester (around 34 weeks gestation), seven underwent elective surgery, and three underwent emergency surgery. Four patients were exogenous cases and six were endogenous cases at diagnosis during early gestation. Seven patients had a cesarean hysterectomy, and three (with focal placenta accreta) had uterine wall reconstruction surgery. Four patients needed blood transfusions. The average duration of surgery was between 2.5 and 5 hours. There were no miscarriages, no maternal and neonatal deaths, and no significant obstetric complications such as rupture of the uterus or major obstetric hemorrhage. Even though CSP is a potentially life-threatening condition because of serious complications such as PAS if continued, expectant management is possible under multidisciplinary care where the team strictly adheres to clinical protocols and accurate surgery to reduce obstetric hemorrhage.

Implementasi Pembelajaran Sistem Blok Merdeka Belajar Pada SMKN 1 Cilegon

Vocational high schools which produce students ready to enter the world of work require the learning system used to be oriented towards developing students' skill competencies. Through independent learning, SMKN 1 Cilegon implements a block system through teaching factory learning to improve the quality of learning. Teaching Factory is a production-oriented learning that has been adapted to relevant field expertise competencies and is focused on project creation. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of literature study, observation and documentation. The findings from this research show that the skills possessed by these students are average, no one is left behind in understanding and adapting all forms of theory and practice so that the involvement of Teaching Factory learning in this block system is very effective.

Chinese expert consensus on meibomian gland dysfunction: diagnosis and management (2023)

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a common ocular surface disease. In recent years, the meibomian gland-related examination and treatment technologies have evolved rapidly. In order to further optimize the diagnostic process of MGD in China and improve the treatment efficiency of MGD, the Chinese Branch of the Asian Dry Eye Society has organized relevant experts to discuss the clinical characteristics of MGD in China and the progress of research at home and abroad. Based on the expert consensus formed in 2017, the updated consensus opinions have been developed for clinical physicians to refer to in the diagnosis and management of MGD.

Expert consensus on the relevance of intestinal microecology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) affects gut microbial homeostasis, and intestinal microecology (IM) may also affect the prognosis of HSCT through multiple mechanisms. In order to further understand the key issues of the correlation between intestinal microecology and HSCT and to learn and absorb new research progress, the Tumor and Microecology Committee of China Anti-Cancer Association organized relevant experts to discuss together and propose the "Expert Consensus on the Relevance of Intestinal Microecology and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation" for clinicians' reference in their practical work. It is a reference for clinicians in practice and provides a basis for further in-depth research in the field of tumor and microecology.

Transforming health care: A large health organizations' journey to become an age-friendly health system (AFHS) and beyond.

In 2017, the John A. Hartford Foundation partnered with the Institute for Health Care Improvement, American Hospital Association, and Catholic Health Care Organization to define the 4Ms framework to improve quality of care and health outcomes for older adults. The senior leadership of one of the largest integrated healthcare organizations (HCO) in the country recognized the relevance of these recommendations to the aging demographic of the United States. The health system provides care to over 2,000,000 unique patients annually, about 20% of whom are aged ≥65. We describe how commitment to becoming an Age-Friendly Health System (AFHS) has taken this HCO beyond the targets set by the initiative. Steps guiding evolution of the AFHS model of care are as follows: Initiation, assessment, planning, implementation, sustainability. An AFHS leadership team including geriatrics and quality improvement expertise oversees the initiative. Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles are utilized at multiple stages to develop structures for data collection and reporting outcomes. Initiation and assessment stages identified key champions and existing efforts and programs that were leveraged to implement 4Ms best practices. Working committees with relevant expertise for each M selected evidence-based quality measures and designed/adapted training materials. The EHR is used to integrate quality measures and gather outcome data to inform changes in care. Dashboards capturing quality measures for each M have been implemented and pilot-tested at a community-based hospital and these processes are being adapted and disseminated to other settings. Leadership and stakeholders convene regularly to review lessons learned and next steps. On the health system level, partnering with quality management leaders has led to development of processes that feed into organizational level data used to track longitudinal improvements in patient outcomes. Outcome data in each of the 4M domains are presented. Learning points are shared to help others take a systems-approach to age-friendly change.

A New (Digital) Era in Medical Journalism: Leveraging Social Media and Other Online Tools to Increase Reach and Engagement.

Social media is a popular communication and marketing tool in modern society, with the power to reach and engage large audiences. Many members of the medical and radiology communities have embraced social media platforms, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), as an efficient and economic means for performing patient outreach, disseminating research and educational materials, building networks, and promoting diversity. Editors of medical journals with a clear vision and relevant expertise can leverage social media and other digital tools to advance the journal's mission, further their interests, and directly benefit journal authors and readers. For editors, social media offers a means to increase article visibility and downloads, expand awareness of volunteer opportunities, and use metrics and other feedback to inform future initiatives. Authors benefit from broader dissemination of their work, which aids establishment of a national or international reputation. Readers can receive high-quality high-yield content in a digestible format directly on their devices while actively engaging with journal editors and authors in the online community. The authors highlight the multifaceted benefits of social media engagement and digital tool implementation in the context of medical journalism and summarize the activities of the RadioGraphics Social Media and Digital Innovation Team. By enumerating the social media activities of RadioGraphics and describing the underlying rationale for each activity, the authors present a blueprint for other medical journals considering similar initiatives. ©RSNA, 2023.

Reconsidering expertise for public policymaking: The challenges of contestability

AbstractIt is commonly claimed there is a crisis of expertise in liberal democracies and that experts who provide evidence‐based policy ideas have become widely distrusted. This paper reconsiders the nature of this perceived crisis in policy advisory systems. The literature has identified four reasons for this trend—politicisation, diversification, diminished policy capacity, and populism. Building on these claims, this paper suggests that the contestability of policy advice has been the key underlying shift in policy advisory processes. Contestability can be positively useful for testing the robustness of policy proposals. However, if the policy debate has no evidentiary standards, the contest becomes a clash of opinions and slogans. Hence, several approaches have been proposed to strengthen the role of professional expertise and improve the quality and legitimacy of evidence‐informed policymaking. One approach is the rebuilding of bureaucratic capacity to provide evidence‐informed policy advice. However, a technocratic–elitist style that invokes scientific authority would be difficult to sustain politically in relation to complex issues affecting citizen well‐being. A second approach is to improve stakeholder engagement and to enhance respect for the expertise embodied in ‘lived experience’. Thus, rebuilding trust and legitimacy may require broadening the range of relevant expertise through multi‐stakeholder approaches.Points for practitioners Types of expert policy advice have evolved and diversified, with many sources and channels both inside and outside government Contestability of policy advice has become more widespread Public service policy capacity has arguably been weakened through outsourcing, use of consultants, interest group lobbying, and the growing influence of ministerial advisors Evidence‐informed advisory systems have been challenged by fast decision‐making, wicked problems, media misinformation, and populist slogans Rebuilding capacity and trust in high‐quality policy systems requires new thinking, including more inclusive processes and a wider view of relevant expertise.

6.I. Workshop: Assessing health system resilience to future shocks: a new tool for policy making

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of health system resilience, the ability of a health system to prepare for, manage and learn from a shock. Other recent adverse events, such as economic crises, conflict, migration and extreme weather have demonstrated how a wide range of shocks can challenge health systems. Health systems vary in their ability to respond to shocks and other challenges, mitigate adverse impacts, and learn from previous experience. While emergency preparedness and planning is a well established component of health system governance in many countries, no methodology currently exists to systematically test the resilience of a health system to a broad range of shocks. In this workshop, the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (OBS) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) share learnings from an ongoing project with the European Commission (EC) to help EU Member States assess and understand the resilience of their health system to a wide range of future shocks. The resilience testing methodology draws on two conceptual frameworks: the Health System Performance Assessment Framework for Universal Health Coverage (HSPA Framework for UHC) and the Shock Cycle. A specific shock scenario is chosen from a broad range of possible shocks to hypothetically challenge a given health system to its limits. This highlights key structural strengths and weaknesses of the health system. The country-led process culminates in a resilience test workshop that brings together policy makers, civil servants and other relevant experts. The test day is supported by an expert facilitator and research team, who provide background knowledge and structure the test day. Results of the resilience test include an understanding of the health system strengths and vulnerabilities specific to the shock. The test day may also anticipate spill-overs effects to other health system functions, and contribute towards a participatory approach to improve preparedness going forward. The objectives of the workshop are to: - present the new methodology for resilience testing; - showcase country examples that have piloted the methodology; - engage workshop participants in discussion towards a common approach to health system resilience strengthening. The workshop consists of presentations (40 minutes) and audience interaction (20 minutes). The presentations will cover the methodology, pilot countries’ experience, and an EU view of the resilience testing process. The audience interaction will consist of moderated discussion with an element of a digital feedback and Q&A (if settings allow). Discussion will reflect on usability, potential adaptations to suit various national settings, and operationalisation for policy makers so that countries can prepare more systematically for future shocks and long-term challenges. Key messages • Resilience testing is a novel and systematic method to engage policy makers, understand health system vulnerabilities and identify weaknesses requiring action. • Country-led pilots show that shock scenarios can be employed to reveal structural vulnerabilities, which can be addressed to enhance health system resilience.
