Green innovation efficiency measurement of manufacturing industry in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region of China based on Super-EBM model and Malmquist-Luenberger index

Promoting sustainable development in manufacturing is a paramount goal, with a focus on advancing green innovation. This study constructs a system for evaluating green innovation efficiency and employs the Super-EBM model, incorporating unexpected output, to assess the efficiency of green innovation in 13 cities across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region from 2011 to 2020. The study further conducts dynamic analysis using the Malmquist-Luenberger index. Results reveal that, statically, the overall green innovation efficiency in the manufacturing industry of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is inefficient. There exists a considerable gap in green innovation efficiency among Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, with Beijing and Tianjin demonstrating superior performance compared to Hebei. Substantial variations exist in the green innovation efficiency of manufacturing across different cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Only Beijing, Qinhuangdao, and Baoding achieve DEA-effective green innovation efficiency in the manufacturing industry, while the other cities do not. Dynamically, the green innovation efficiency of the manufacturing industry in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is on the rise. There is a varying degree of improvement in green innovation efficiency in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, with Hebei showing the highest improvement, Tianjin ranking second, and Beijing having the least improvement. With the exception of Langfang and Hengshui, the green innovation efficiency in the manufacturing industry is improving in most cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, with Hebei witnessing the most significant improvement. This study aims to integrate “environmental pollution” into the evaluation index system for green innovation efficiency. It assesses green innovation efficiency in the manufacturing industry of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, considering both static and dynamic perspectives. This clarification offers insights into the level of green innovation, contributing valuable information for the advancement of high-quality development in the regional manufacturing industry.

Mechanism and evolution trend of digital green fusion in China's regional advanced manufacturing industry

This paper has observed pivotal changes in innovative frameworks at the intersection of the digital revolution and sustainable initiatives. Within Industry 4.0, the fusion between intelligent manufacturing and green innovation has become a central driver for sustainability. Integrating these two pivotal forces to harness their collective efficiency is crucial. However, current literature offers limited insights into their combined impact, and the direction of their evolving trends still needs to be defined. Considering this, the research elucidates the core concepts and traits of digital-green fusion (DGF) within regional advanced manufacturing (RAMIDGF). Moreover, this research proposes a double-helix fusion mechanism model. Utilizing data from the advanced manufacturing sectors in six key Chinese urban clusters, this paper adopts a comprehensive analytical toolkit that includes the Coupling Modified Model, Kernel Density Estimation, Markov Chain algorithms, and the Dagum Gini Coefficient for trend analysis. The findings indicate that between 2009 and 2021, RAMIDGF exhibited a trend of initial growth followed by a decline, showing a strong correlation with per capita GDP (RGDP). The principal source of variation in RAMIDGF stems from differences between urban agglomerations, with the Yangtze River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei clusters exhibiting transitional behavior and a ‘ladder-type trend’ in RAMIDGF. As metropolitan clusters become more economically integrated, the probability of transitional behavior in RAMIDGF heightens. However, achieving elevated leapfrog development proves challenging, with an inherent risk of decline. Spatial spillover implications, agglomeration characteristics, and club convergence tendencies mark the RAMIDGF process. These findings expand upon new paradigms for regional sustainable development, offering novel avenues for realizing high-quality growth.

Spatial Pattern Evolution of the Manufacturing Industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt and Its Impact on PM2.5

Instead of being merely an important embodiment of regional productivity, the manufacturing industry also serves as a significant sector of economic operation and the supply chain system that is highly dependent on resources and the environment. Studying the spatial pattern of the manufacturing industry and its environmental effect is extremely significant for optimizing the spatial layout of urban industry, allocating production factors in a rational manner, and promoting the green transformation of industry. In this regard, this study aimed to further reveal the spatial pattern characteristics of the regional manufacturing industry and its impact on PM2.5. Using data from micro-enterprises in the manufacturing industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, its spatial pattern characteristics are explored and an econometric model is constructed to analyze the impact of the manufacturing industry on PM2.5 by comprehensively applying approaches including kernel density estimation, nearest proximity index, and Dagum Gini coefficient decomposition. Three research conclusions were drawn: (1) an obvious “core-edge” feature is present in the spatial distribution of the manufacturing industry in the studied area showing an apparent pattern of “high in the east and low in the west”. The core density of the manufacturing industry in the central cities is significantly higher than that in the surrounding cities. (2) In the manufacturing industry and its subdivisions, the characteristics of spatial agglomeration are unveiled, while the agglomeration and spatial differences are diminished during the study period for the spatial equilibrium of the manufacturing industry. (3) A significantly positive impact is exerted on PM2.5 pollution that is not limited to local cities by the manufacturing industry, which, due to the development differences within the study region, is also heterogeneous. In view of this, policy proposals for aspects such as forging a green manufacturing cluster area, establishing an industrial integration development platform, giving play to regional advantages and technological potential, etc., are put forward in this study, so as to provide a useful reference for optimizing the industrial pattern and promoting the green transformation of industries.

The Evaluation Prediction System for Urban Advanced Manufacturing Development

With the rapid development of the economy, it is important to reasonably evaluate the development status of the regional manufacturing industry. Given this, this article expands the evaluation indicators of urban advanced manufacturing (UAM) from the perspective of the push–pull-mooring (PPM). Then, it uses a machine learning (ML) method to predict the evaluation results of other cities through a small amount of sample data. The results show that: (1) From the current development status of UAM in Guangdong Province (GD), cities in the Pearl River Delta region occupy a dominant position. However, cities in eastern, western, and mountainous regions have strong development potential and lead cities. Therefore, each region has cities with high levels of development and has a demonstrative role. (2) By comparison, it was found that the overall development level of UAM in GD is not significantly different from that of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. However, due to significant differences in their extreme values, the proportion of cities above the average in the overall population is relatively small. This indirectly proves that GD’s UAM not only has a phased nature, but also has a demonstrative role. (3) The prediction effect of the perceptron model is better than other methods. Although neural network models have better prediction performance than other machine learning models, they should not overly rely on complex network structure prediction data. By comparing the results, the reliability is verified. Finally, according to the life cycle theory, we propose a targeted development path for different UAM.

Do External Impacts Cause Differences between Regional and National Business Cycles?: Focusing on the Dongnam Metropolitan Area

Purpose – This study analyzes large differences and similarities through comparison with national level business fluctuations, including differences between regions within the Dongnam metropolitan area, focusing on the impact of major domestic and international economic shocks. Design/Methodology/Approach – This study conducted econometric analysis using the Markov switching model with the monthly manufacturing production indexes of each region from 2000 to 2020 as data. Findings – The characteristics of Dongnam metropolitan area, distinguished from other regions nationwide, are as follows. First, the regions’s manufacturing focuses on the heavy chemical industry and did not shrink, even during the 7th cyclical recession caused by the global IT bubble bursting. Second, the manufacturing sector in the Dongnam metropolitan area continued a downward trend, even during the 11th cyclical expansion. However, economic impact was found to have varied in size by region. Our analysis results show that Busan was more affected by internal and external impacts than Ulsan and Gyeongnam, showing slower recovery. Ulsan was shown to have much higher manufacturing resilience than other regions, despite several internal and external economic impacts. Finally, Gyeongnam showed several recession phases in 2008 and after 2016, but the duration was found to have been much shorter than in Busan. Research Implications – The impact and characteristics of business cycles caused by external shocks were found to have varied by region. The results imply that regionally specialized industrial support measures are required together with economic stabilization policies at the national level. It was also found that separate measures at the regional level need to be implemented in connection with governmental support measures for regional manufacturing industries.

Research on Comprehensive Evaluation of High-quality Development of China's Regional Manufacturing Industry

Promoting the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry is an inevitable choice under the background of the developme nt of my country's new era. The article focuses on the connotation of the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry and builds an evaluation index system for the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry from four dimensions: high-end, innovative, service-oriented, and green. , using the vertical and horizontal scale method to evaluate and analyze the high-quality development level of the manufacturing industry in 30 provinces and cities from 2010 to 2020. The results show that the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry in my country is unbalanced among regions, showing a trend of strength in the east and weakness in the west. Based on the empirical results, corresponding policy recommendations are put forward for different regions.

Does Fiscal Expenditure Promote the Upgrading of Regional Manufacturing Industry? Empirical Test Based on the Dual Perspective of Infrastructure and Basic Public Services

The Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee set the tone that China’s manufacturing industry should upgrade to advanced, intelligent and high quality. In the traditional theory of industrial structure upgrading, fiscal expenditure is not the main influencing factor. In the new pattern of “dual circulation” development of Chinese economy, the important role of government in economic development should not be ignored in the study of the high-end upgrading of manufacturing industry. Using the panel data of 28 provinces in China from 2008 to 2016, this paper deeply studies the economic effect of the most important expenditure on basic public services and infrastructure on the upgrading of manufacturing industry, as well as the regional heterogeneity and the nonlinear characteristics of the technological progress stage. It is found that the economic effect of general budget expenditure and basic public service expenditure on the high-end upgrading of manufacturing structure shows the characteristics of strong heterogeneity and marginal decline, which mainly comes from the promotion effect of the two types of fiscal expenditure in the eastern region and the hindrance effect in the central and western regions. Especially in the five western provinces where industrialization is slow and heavily dependent on transfer payments, infrastructure expenditure and basic public service expenditure show negative economic effects around 2010, but this does not completely mean the failure of the policy effect of local governments. Poverty reduction and poverty alleviation in such underdeveloped areas often rely more on the development of labor-intensive manufacturing industry. With the improvement of the level of innovative technological progress, the role of basic public service expenditure in promoting the upgrading of manufacturing industry will be gradually strengthened. This paper holds that under the new pattern, the eastern provinces should increase investment in information infrastructure, promote the reform of affordable housing, and release the restrictions on both the household registration of high-skilled talents and the school district of children’s basic education. The central provinces should give further play to the role of the market in allocating resources, and focus on improving the quality of public services such as education and medical treatment to the eastern region, so as to better undertake the transfer of high-skilled talents and manufacturing industry in the eastern region. For special provinces with slow industrialization and mainly relying on central transfer payments, we can appropriately increase the proportion of special transfer payments, strengthen the guidance of subsidies and financial policies on social capital, and stimulate the vitality of market players. Under the background of “tax cut and fee reduction”, this paper provides empirical evidence for the improvement of government fiscal expenditure efficiency, the regional policy design of the upgrading of manufacturing industry, and the optimization of fiscal expenditure structure.

Modelling the Heterogeneity of the Mutual Influence between Russian Regions in the Manufacturing Industry

As factors affecting interregional interactions play an important role in regional economic development. Thus, developing a methodology for assessing these interactions is becoming urgent. The article proposes a methodological approach to analyse the factors influencing possible interactions between Sverdlovsk oblast and other constituent entities of the Russian Federation in the manufacturing industry. It is hypothesised that the elements of an interregional interaction matrix are proxy variables characterising the degree of this interaction. An economic analysis of relations and production chains between Sverdlovsk oblast and other constituent entitles confirmed this hypothesis. First, based on the spatial distribution of manufacturing output in the examined regions, values of an indicator showing the strength of their mutual influence were determined. Second, the impact of economic, infrastructural and institutional factors on the obtained indicator, characterising the inter action between Sverdlovsk oblast and other regions, was assessed using quantile regression. In this case, such a technique was chosen instead of the classical ordinary least squares (OLS) regression that incorrectly estimates the dependencies between the studied variables. This is expressed in the fact that the regression coefficients de pend on q-quantile of the dependent variable. We have revealed that price levels of the examined regions do not affect their possible interactions with Sverdlovsk oblast. Simultaneously, the dissemination of knowledge acts a driver of interaction between the considered regional manufacturing industries. The research findings can be used to prepare strategies, programmes and schemes for the placement and development of industries, considering the potential of Sverdlovsk oblast and other Russian regions.

Regional Manufacturing Industry Demand Forecasting: A Deep Learning Approach

With the rapid development of the manufacturing industry, demand forecasting has been important. In view of this, considering the influence of environmental complexity and diversity, this study aims to find a more accurate method to forecast manufacturing industry demand. On this basis, this paper utilizes a deep learning model for training and makes a comparative study through other models. The results show that: (1) the performance of deep learning is better than other methods; by comparing the results, the reliability of this study is verified. (2) Although the prediction based on the historical data of manufacturing demand alone is successful, the accuracy of the prediction results is significantly lower than when taking into account multiple factors. According to these results, we put forward the development strategy of the manufacturing industry in Guangdong. This will help promote the sustainable development of the manufacturing industry.

A Literature Review of High Quality Development in Manufacturing

China's economy has entered a new stage of development. High-quality manufacturing development is an important part of the high-quality development of the Chinese economy, and promoting high-quality manufacturing development is a strategic requirement in response to changes in the internal and external situation. This paper reviews and summarizes the important achievements of the research on the high quality development of manufacturing industry in recent years from four perspectives: connotation, path, evaluation system and evaluation of the high quality development of regional manufacturing industry, and points out the shortcomings of the current research.

Evaluation and spatial agglomeration analysis of the green competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry at the provincial level.

The pressures to maintain a low-carbon economy makes green competitiveness (GC) a significant issue in China. It has been found that the development of Internet and E-commerce contributes significantly to GC of regional economy, yet there are still lack of quantitative investigation on their effects, which can be used to further guide the economic development. Therefore, this study constructs a new evaluation index for the green competitiveness of the regional manufacturing industry in China by introducing Internet application indicators and E-commerce development indexes into its evaluation system. The results show Jiangxi and Gansu moved upward significantly in the GC ranking over the period. The development of the Internet and E-commerce has the most significant impact on GC of regional manufacturing. The lack of green manufacturing capabilities and green innovation drivers led to a decline in the GC ranking of Liaoning, Tianjin, Guangxi and Heilongjiang. Finally, this study uses Moran’s I index to investigate the spatial agglomeration effect of the green development of the manufacturing industry at the province level. The results show an increase in the GC of China’s regional manufacturing industry, and the GC of manufacturing industry shows a significant agglomeration effect. Based on the above conclusions, the proposal to promote the balanced development of the GC of the manufacturing industry is proposed.

Research on the Upgrading Path of Regional Equipment Manufacturing Industry

Constructing the upgrading path of regional equipment manufacturing industry based on innovation network is of great significance for solving the transformation and upgrading problems of regional equipment manufacturing industry in China, further catching up with the development level of equipment manufacturing industry in developed countries, and alleviating the regional gap. Based on literature analysis and industrial upgrading theory, this paper puts forward the basic principles and general ideas of upgrading path design of regional equipment manufacturing industry, focusing on designing industrial upgrading path based on key common technologies, industrial upgrading path based on industrial chain optimization and industrial upgrading path based on innovation platform, and finally puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.

Innovation network characteristics and equipment manufacturing industry upgrading: based on the mediating effect of innovation ability

In order to strengthen the guiding and supporting role of the innovation-driven development strategy, and to promote the structural optimization and efficiency improvement of the equipment manufacturing industry, this paper analyzes the structure, function and characteristics of the regional equipment manufacturing industry innovation network, and proposes a conceptual model and theoretical hypothesis that the innovation network based on the mediating effect of innovation capability affects the upgrade effect of the regional equipment manufacturing industry. Through a questionnaire survey of 219 enterprises in my country’s equipment manufacturing industry and structural equation model verification, it measures the action path and industrial upgrading law of innovation network influencing regional equipment manufacturing industry upgrading.

In this context, the geographical continent transition taking place among Turkey’s automotive industry, within the limits of qualitative studies, creating a historical perspective, the region, released today stems from the importance of global integration centers. The employment growth of a region is a crucial factor of development in a developing economy. The economic growth and employment growth of an economy is significantly important for the well being of the people. The welfare of an economy is determined by the poverty level of the people. Again, poverty level significantly determined by the employment growth status of the region. When the employment growth increases in favor of the poor people, it reduces the poverty status of the poor people. Therefore, the study of the employment growth is vital for the development as well as well being of the people in a region. The North Eastern Region is a developing region in India. The study of the region is vital in the formulation of economic as well as public policy for the development of the region. The present paper studied the employment growth of the manufacturing industry in the North Eastern Region of India during the periods from 2001 to 2011. The paper applied the shift share technique that used to estimate the regional growth, employment growth etc. to furnish the objective. The study found that employment growth in the regional manufacturing industry increased in most of the states of the NER of India during the analysis periods. However, half of the states of the NER of India show disadvantages for the manufacturing industry of the region. The present paper suggested that to increase the employment growth in the manufacturing industry of the region, government should develop the infrastructure facilities in favor of the considered industry of the region.

The purpose of this paper is to integrate industrial design into mechanical design, improve the core competitiveness of mechanical products, and become a benign development path for the transformation and upgrading of traditional machinery enterprises. To provide perfect and feasible ideas, theories and concrete methods and means for traditional enterprises; Through the research and analysis of the present situation of the development of traditional machinery industry, this paper finds out a series of problems existing in the upgrading and transformation of traditional manufacturing industry in the emerging stage, combined with the core ideas of informatization and industrialization under the background of industrial design 4.0, taking Anshan old industrial base as an example. An innovative development model suitable for the integration of industrial design and regional machinery manufacturing industry is developed. And take the industrial design public service as the support, adjust measures to the local conditions. This paper analyzes the integration level of regional manufacturing industry by measuring the similarity coefficient of manufacturing industry structure and regional division index between Jinan, the capital city of Shandong province, and other cities in the region from 2012 to 2017. From 2012 to 2017, the similarity coefficient of industrial structure of Shandong capital city cluster is declining; the regional division index is rising; and the industrial transformation of Jinan in the region has made remarkable progress, which is conducive to the continuous improvement of regional integration level.
