The Association of Dietary Diversity with Hyperuricemia among Community Inhabitants in Shanghai, China: A Prospective Research.

Hyperuricemia, a major worldwide burden on public hygiene, is closely connected with dietary habits. However, few studies have evaluated the association of dietary diversity with hyperuricemia. To preliminarily reveal the status of a diversified diet in preventing hyperuricemia based on a neighborhood-based, massive-scale cohort in China, a total of 43,493 participants aged 20-74 years old, with no history of hyperuricemia at baseline, were enrolled in the research from April 2016 to December 2019. The Dietary Diversity Score (DDS) was utilized to evaluate the dietary variety and split the participants into the low-, medium-, and high-DDS groups. Information on participants was connected to regional health information systems that acquired data on hyperuricemia instances up to 28 February 2023. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed by Cox proportional hazards models. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) were implemented to analyze dose-response correlation. A total of 1460 individuals with newly diagnosed hyperuricemia were observed over a median follow-up period of 5.59 years. Compared to the low-DDS group, HRs for the medium- and high-DDS groups were 0.87 (95% CI 0.76-0.99) and 0.80 (95% CI 0.70-0.91) in the fully adjusted model, respectively. The risk of hyperuricemia incidence was reduced by 5% for each 1 unit of DDS increase. A linear correlation of DDS with hyperuricemia emerged and further revealed that the intake of 8-10 broad categories of food could decrease the incidence of hyperuricemia. Our results validate the dietary principle of "food diversification" recommended in guidelines. Conclusions should be applied with caution considering the paucity of related evidence in additional nations.

The role of citizenship in the acceptance and completion of COVID-19 vaccine cycle in the resident population with foreign citizenship registered with the Umbrian Health Care System - An analysis of regional data.

Non-italian citizens experienced less access to anti-COVID-19 vaccination, compared to the native population. Literature has found differences in adherence to anti-COVID-19 vaccination among these groups; however, there are apparently no studies that investigated the role of citizenship. Our objective was to investigate the role of citizenship in vaccine hesitancy toward anti-COVID-19 vaccination and the completion of vaccine cycle, in the non-Italian citizens resident in the Umbria Region. This is a population study, performed on resident population in Umbria. Population data were obtained thanks to a record linkage between the Regional Health Information System and the regional DBCOVID Umbria database. On this dataset, a descriptive and logistic regression analyses were performed. The 19.2% of non-Italian citizens did not take even one dose, 2.1% did not complete it and 40.6% did not take the additional dose. The range of values of which these results are an average, however, is very wide, suggesting important differences in COVID-19 vaccine up taking, among different citizenships. The logistic regression shows that citizenships with the highest probability of non-adherence to vaccination, compared to Philippine, was Romanian (OR=7.8), followed by Macedonian (OR=7.3) and Polish (OR=5.9). The study provides evidence of differences among citizenships that pinpoint the importance of understanding the reasons behind these behaviours, to support decisions around health policies tailored to each citizenship.

EASY-NET Program: Effectiveness of an Audit and Feedback Intervention in the Emergency Care for Acute Conditions in the Lazio Region.

The EASY-NET network program (NET-2016-02364191)-effectiveness of audit and feedback (A&F) strategies to improve health practice and equity in various clinical and organizational settings), piloted a novel and more structured A&F strategy. This study compared the effectiveness of the novel strategy against the sole periodic dissemination of indicators in enhancing the appropriateness and timeliness of emergency health interventions for patients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and ischemic stroke in the Lazio Region. The efficacy of the intervention was assessed through a prospective quasi-experimental design employing a pre- and post-intervention (2021-2022) comparison with a control group. Participating hospitals in the Lazio Region, where professional teams voluntarily engaged in the intervention, constituted the exposed group, while the control group exclusively engaged in routine reporting activities. Effectiveness analysis was conducted at the patient level, utilizing regional health information systems to compute process and outcome indicators. The effectiveness of the intervention was evaluated using difference-in-difference models, comparing pre- and post-intervention periods between exposed and control groups. Estimates were calculated in terms of the difference in percentage points (PP) between absolute risks. Sixteen facilities for the AMI pathway and thirteen for the stroke pathway participated in the intervention. The intervention yielded a reduction in the proportion of 30-day readmissions following hospitalization for ischemic stroke by 0.54 pp in the exposed patients demonstrating a significant difference of -3.80 pp (95% CI: -6.57; -1.03; 5453 patients, 63.7% cases) in the exposed group compared to controls. However, no statistically significant differences attributable to the implemented A&F intervention were observed in other indicators considered. These results represent the first evidence in Italy of the impact of A&F interventions in an emergency setting, utilizing aggregated data from hospitals involved in the Lazio Region's emergency network.

Analisis Penerapan Sistem Informasi Kesehatan Daerah (SIKDA) Generik Dalam Meningkatkan Pelayanan Rawat Jalan Di Puskesmas Rawat Inap Ciranjang

The use of good information system technology can help the implementation of the work program of the puskesmas effectively, reports on the performance of the puskesmas can be reported periodically and systematically so that the puskesmas management can make the right decisions. SIKDA at the Medical Record Unit at the Ciranjang Inpatient Health Center just started in April 2019. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Regional Health Information System (SIKDA) in improving outpatient services at the Ciranjang Inpatient Health Center and to analyze the inhibiting factors for the implementation of generic SIKDA at the Ciranjang Inpatient Health Center. The research method used is qualitative analysis with a descriptive approach. The time of the research was conducted in March-May 2023 at the Ciranjang Inpatient Health Center. The results of the study when viewed from the perspective of human factors found that SIKDA at the Ciranjang Inpatient Health Center could not be carried out by every officer in the service unit, there were no special technical staff who managed the information system and there was no further training or outreach. While from the technological factor there are several damaged devices and information systems that are not updated. It can be concluded that generic SIKDA human resources are still lacking in operating generic SIKDA in all outpatient service units due to limited human resources. The technological factor for the application of SIKDA is already very good. However, support from the leadership for the implementation of generic SIKDA is considered to be lacking due to limited facilities and infrastructure, and the availability of human resources. And the benefits generated by the regional health information system (SIKDA) at the Ciranjang Inpatient Health Center are still not being felt due to not being integrated in all outpatient services and software applications that have never been updated again.

The First Saint Petersburg Regional Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Registry on the Basis of the Regional Health Information System: Principles of Functioning, Testing Results, Plan of Development

Aim: to present the principles of functioning of the regional registry of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients in Saint Petersburg on the basis of the City Health Information System (Saint Petersburg IBD Registry).Key points. The Saint Petersburg IBD Registry consists of General Statistical Module and Clinical Module. The General Statistical Module is intended to analyze the prevalence of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, the number of patient visits to medical institutions; to assess the burden on the healthcare system, demographic characteristics, routing and mortality for the whole region. The Clinical Module allows to assess the IBD features in prospective observation. The register case report form is integrated into the patient's status in the Medical Information System of the medical institution. Saint Petersburg IBD Registry operates on the basis of the Saint Petersburg Medical Center of Information and Analysis within the framework of the Regional Medical Data Collection System of the Russian state information system “Regional Fragment of the Unified State Information System in the Healthcare Branch”. The accumulation of prospective data in the Clinical Module continues, which in the near future will make it possible to test and configure the automated analytical block of the registry.Conclusion. The functioning of the Saint Petersburg IBD Registry allows to achieve following primary goals within region: assessment of the epidemiological features of IBD in Saint Petersburg; dynamic assessment of the disease features; assessment and planning of health care resources required to provide care to IBD patients; improvement of approaches to the treatment taking into account the specifics of the region; assessment of the effectiveness and tolerability of specific treatment including biologics.

Based on the need for a standardized and integrated health data system that can be carried out in real time, since 2018, a generic regional health information system (SIKDA) has been implemented in East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency (OKU Timur) to accommodate this need. Implementation of this generic SIKDA aims to provide accurate, precise, and fast health data and information that is useful to provide convenience in policy making, so that it is expected to be able to provide good performance. So that in its implementation it can perform well, it is necessary to have a driving factor, including work attitude and work motivation. This study aims to determine the relationship between work attitude and work motivation and the performance of the Public Health Center Generic SIKDA Management in East OKU District. This study uses a cross-sectional research design. The results of the study showed that both work attitude and work motivation variables had a significant relationship with the performance of the Public Health Center Generic SIKDA Manager in East OKU District.

Ten years onwards: Comparison of the South Eastern European regional public health strategy 2004 and the South Eastern European 2020 strategy

Aim: Regional collaboration has continuously contributed to the development of public health in the South Eastern Europe (SEE) region since 2000 when the Public Health Collaboration in SEE (PH-SEE) was initiated. This article looks into two frameworks for regional collaboration in the area of public health: a framework developed in 2004 by a network of public health professionals and academics, and another one developed by the SEE Health Network as integral part of the SEE 2020 strategy on Jobs and Prosperity in a European Perspective, adopted in 2013. It compares the commonalities and differences of the two frameworks; considers what is still valid and relevant after ten years and which new features have emerged in the new strategy. Methods: A literature review was carried out and a qualitative analysis was applied for the comparison of the two frameworks. Results: Notwithstanding the time gap of nearly ten years, the commonalities between the two regional health strategies are significant. Major consistent goals include: improving equity in health; strengthening human resources for health; improving intersectoral cooperation and governance. The differences between the two regional strategies, including issues around social participation and regional health information systems, are partially due to their different development context. Cross-border policies and quality management have emerged as new or more pronounced topics in the SEE 2020 strategy’s health dimension. Conclusions: Many aspects addressed in the 2004 framework are pertinent with regard to the SEE 2020 health dimension and remain relevant in the current context. Association of walkability and NO2 with metabolic syndrome: A cohort study in China

BackgroundEpidemiological studies have reported an association between traffic-related pollution with risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, evidence from prospective studies on the association of walkability and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) with MetS is still scarce. We, therefore, aimed to evaluate the association of long-term exposure to NO2 and walkability with hazards of incident MetS. MethodsA total of 17,965 participants without MetS diagnosed within one year at baseline were included in our study from a population-based prospective cohort in Yinzhou District, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China. Participants were followed up by the regional Health Information System (HIS) until December 15, 2021. MetS was defined based on the criteria of Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS2004). We used walkscore tools, calculating with amenity categories and decay functions, and spatial–temporal land-use regression (LUR) models to estimate walkability and NO2 concentrations. We used Cox proportional hazards regression models to examine the association of walkability and NO2 with hazards of MetS incidence reporting with hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). ResultsOverall, we followed up 77,303 person-years and identified 4040 incident cases of MetS in the entire cohort. Higher walkability was inversely associated with incident MetS (HR = 0.94, 95 % CI: 0.91–0.99), whereas NO2 was positively associated with MetS incidence (HR = 1.07, 95 %CI: 1.00–1.15) per interquartile range increment in two-exposure models. Furthermore, we found a significant multiplicative interaction between walkability and NO2. Stronger associations were observed for NO2 and incident MetS among men, smokers, drinkers and participants who aged < 60 years and had higher levels of income. ConclusionIn summary, we found living in areas with lower walkability and higher concentrations of NO2 were associated with increased incidence of MetS. The beneficial effect of higher walkability may be attenuated by exposure to NO2.

Achievement of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol targets in Chinese patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease after receiving statins and ezetimibe.

BackgroundThe importance of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) lowering to reduce atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk is strongly emphasized. If the LDL-C goals are not achieved with statin therapy, combination with ezetimibe is recommended. Studies revealed a substantial gap between obtained LDL-C levels and LDL-C target in ASCVD patients. However, little is known about the achievement of LDL-lowering treatment targets in ASCVD patients receiving ezetimibe in addition to statins.Materials and methodsThis was a retrospective cohort study based on EHR data from the regional health information system of Yinzhou, an eastern coastal area of China. ASCVD Patients stratified as very high risk, taking both statin and ezetimibe for lipid control, and had at least one lipid test after ezetimibe initiation were included between January 2013 and July 2020. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the LDL-C values and target value (1.8 mmol/L according to the Chinese guideline, 1.4 mmol/L according to the European guideline) achievements. Multivariable logistic regression was used to explore the influencing factors of target achievement rate.ResultsA total of 1,727 patients were included. The median follow-up time was 15.0 months. Taking 1.8 mmol/L as the target value, the achievement rates of LDL-C over the first 3 follow up years were 50.6, 31.3, and 30.3%, respectively. Taking 1.4 mmol/L as the target value, the achievement rates were 25.6, 15.5, and 16.5%, respectively. Multivariable analysis suggested that male patients (OR = 1.78, 95%CI: 1.27–2.49), combined use of atorvastatin or rosuvastatin with ezetimibe (vs other statins, OR = 4.64, 95% CI: 1.83–11.76), better medication adherence (OR = 1.03, 95% CI: 1.01–1.04) and smoking cessation (vs smoking, OR = 2.26, 95% CI: 1.27–4.02) were associated with a higher achievement rate, while baseline LDL-C level (OR = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.41–0.56) and treatment course of statin before ezetimibe (OR = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.89–0.98) were negatively associated with achievement rate.ConclusionLong-term follow-up data based on a Chinese regional database shows that in very high-risk ASCVD patients taking ezetimibe in addition to statins, achievement rate of LDL-lowering treatment targets is still low and far from satisfactory in real-world setting. More efforts are needed to achieve optimal LDL-C levels.

Analysis of the Implementation of the Generic Regional Health Information System (SIKDA) at Simpang Tiga Health Center Pekanbaru City

The application of the Generic Regional Health Information System at the Community Health Center as a user aims to provide convenience for officers in carrying out reporting activities between sections and also for activities in reporting to the Health Office by using the Generic Regional Health Information System for online patient management. It is hoped that the results of the application of the Generic Regional Health Information System will be input for the benefit of management in preparing a health program planning and is expected to be used as a monitoring system for Community Health Center services by the Head of the Community Health Center and the Health Office to be more effective. This research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. The types of data used are primary data and secondary data. Primary data were obtained from direct observation, in-depth interviews, and document review. The informants of this study consisted of the Head of the Public Health Center, the Person in Charge of the Generic Regional Health Information System, the Operator of the Generic Regional Health Information System, the Police Officer, the Drug Warehouse &amp; Pharmacy Officer and the Cashier of the Simpang Tiga Health Center. The results showed that the implementation of the Generic Regional Health Information System at the Simpang Tiga Health Center was still running up to the registration flow, so it was not interrelated between programs in accordance with the regulations set by the Government. Human resources who operate the Regional Health Information System still have adequate and not in accordance with the minimum educational standards, besides that the operators who run the Regional Health Information System have never received. Existing facilities and infrastructure still do not support the operation of the Generic Regional Health Information System, ranging from network and computer disturbances, which are still insufficient for the implementation of a complete Regional Health Information System flow. Therefore, it is hoped that the puskesmas can pay attention to the existing constraints, so that the operation of the Generic Regional Health Information System runs optimally.

Prevalence of schizophrenia spectrum disorders among adults in the Lazio region, Italy: use of an algorithm based on health information systems

IntroductionMental healthcare provision is undergoing substantial reconfiguration in many regions of the world. Such changes require a broad evidence-based approach incorporating epidemiological data and information of local needs.ObjectivesTo estimate the prevalence of schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) in the Lazio region and its geographical distribution using the regional health information systems (HIS).MethodsCases of SSDs (15-64-year-old) were identified using an algorithm based on data from the hospital discharge registry [ICD IX CM: 295, 297, 298 (excl. 298.0)] and the ticket exemption database [code 044], between 2006 and 2019. Crude, and age- and gender-specific prevalence estimates on December 31, 2019, were calculated. To compare prevalence between different areas within the region, we calculated age- and gender-adjusted prevalence ratesResultsA total of 18,371 cases were identified. Crude prevalence rate was 4.29/1,000 (95% CI 4.29-4.30) and 5.93/1,000 (95% CI 5.92-5.949 for women and men, respectively. An increase in the prevalence rate by age was observed in both genders. The age- and gender-adjusted prevalence rate was 5.03/1,000 (95 % CI 4.96-5.10), with significant differences within the region, ranging from 4.25/1,000 in the province of Viterbo to 5.42/1,000 in the city of Rome and 6.02/1000 in the province of Frosinone.ConclusionsOur results showed that the overall prevalence of SSDs among adults in the Lazio region is similar to estimates published in prior reviews, but an uneven regional geographical distribution was observed. While possible underestimation must be considered, HIS represents a valuable source of information useful for epidemiological surveillance and healthcare planning.DisclosureNo significant relationships.

Diabetes mellitus and colorectal cancer screening in the population of the Italian region Friuli Venezia Giulia

&#x0D; Aims: Colorectal cancer is the most common cancer in Italy, where screening programs are now in place all over the country. We conducted a research to assess whether the use and outcomes of colorectal cancer screening are different between diabetics, who are at increased risk of developing colorectal cancer, and non-diabetics in the Italian Northeastern region Friuli Venezia Giulia.&#x0D; Methods: This was a retrospective population-based study which used the administrative databases of the regional health information system as the sources of information. For the two screening rounds 2010-2011 and 2012-2013, we compared adherence to the program and the results of the fecal occult blood tests and of the colonoscopy among diabetic and non-diabetic residents.&#x0D; Results: Overall, more than 300,000 persons were invited for the colorectal cancer screening in each round. Of them, approximately 8.8% were diabetic. In the regional population, adherence to the screening program was significantly lower among diabetics than among non-diabetics. The proportion of positive fecal occult blood tests was higher among diabetics than among non-diabetics. Among diabetics, the detection rate for initial and advanced adenomas was higher than among non-diabetics, whereas no clear pattern was observed for the detection of cancers.&#x0D; Conclusion: In Friuli Venezia Giulia, efforts should be directed at improving the management of diabetic patients and at reducing the inequalities in access to care due to this comorbidity.&#x0D;

Postvaccination SARS-CoV-2 Infections among Healthcare Professionals: A Real World Evidence Study.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all countries with a global mobilization started to produce and authorize vaccines, prioritizing healthcare professionals (HCPs) to reduce transmission. The aim of this study was to assess post-vaccination infections’ occurrence among HCPs and their correlation with symptom onset. A retrospective cohort study was carried out in the Campania Region from December 2020 to April 2021. Data were retrieved from the Regional Health Information System of the Campania Region (Sinfonia). The study cohort included subjects that had all received at least one vaccine dose. Risk ratios (RRs) adjusted for age and sex (95% confidence intervals) were performed to assess differences in the prevalence between HCPs who tested positive or negative for COVID-19. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between symptoms and vaccination status. Findings revealed that HCPs had a lower risk of contracting COVID-19 after receiving at least one vaccine dose, and this risk decreased with age. Furthermore, not having full vaccination coverage may predict a severe/critical evolution of the disease. This study provides a snapshot of the initial state of the Italian vaccination campaign on HCPs. A surveillance approach using Big Data matched to clinical conditions could offer a real analysis in the categorization of subjects most at risk.

Chronic treatment of COPD: state of the art and real-world analysis of healthcare costs based on medication adherence data.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), represents a serious and growing health problem worldwide. Healthcare should be conceived and structured in a proactive logic mode predicting to promote prevention and supporting the patient in the path of care. This desirable approach could reduce the impact of chronicity on patient' quality of life and health care costs. In this context, the theme of therapeutic adherence represents one of the priorities on which to intervene. To show a real life picture of the health expenditure and economics consequences due to non-adherent COPD therapy. Patients with a COPD diagnosis were selected from the Regional Health Information System Edotto; consumption data was also obtained from the same patients and was based on data relating to prescriptions dispensed by affiliated pharmacies belonging to the Local Health Agency of the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani (LHA BT) in a time period including 2017 and 2018. The assisted patients not adhering to COPD treatment (medication possession ratio between 20% and 80%) in 2017 were included in the analysis. The system Edotto was used to verify how many of them had become adherent in 2018. For both groups of patients, the average cost per patient was assessed, both in terms of pharmaceutical expenditure and hospitalizations due to COPD. Of the 66 patients not adhering to the treatment in 2017, 66.67% (44 patients) became adherent to therapy and 33.33% (22 patients) remained non-adherent to treatment during 2018. The total cost (pharmaceutical expenditure ATC-R03 and the cost derived from hospitalizations due to COPD) for non-adherent patient during 2018 was 73% increase compared to the cost of the patient adhering to treatment (p=.000317), thus resulting a saving of € 992.56 per adherent patient. Adherence to COPD therapy can improve patient health and reduce healthcare costs.

The unified state health information system (UHISZ) is becoming a state-significant information system (IS), which is capable of solving any problems of preserving and strengthening the health of citizens. Purpose of the study is to substantiate the problems of the construction and functioning of the Unified State Health Information System, the solution of which will multiply the capabilities of the Unified State Health Information System to solve the problems of preserving and strengthening the health of citizens and look for new non-traditional ways to improve their health. Results. I n the article, the authors distinguish three levels of problems to be solved. The first level of problems is problems that can be solved at the highest (legislative) level. The second level of problems is the problems that must be solved at the regional level. The third level of problems is the problems faced by ordinary users of the Uniform State Health Information System – doctors and other medical workers. The article initially uses the position – “Any information system is a tool for solving management problems.” The authors trace the stages of creating informatization in the Russian Federation from the complex program “Development and implementation of automated consultative systems for diagnosis, prognosis and choice of treatment tactics in emergency conditions”, which substantiated the development of automated systems for the period 1978–1990 until 2018, when Russia was the National Healthcare Project was launched, which includes the Federal project “Creation of a unified digital circuit in health care based on the unified state health information system (Unified State Health Information System) ”. The article discusses the problem of the privacy of data on the health of a resident of the region and the privacy of knowledge of the factors that determine both the health of a particular resident of the region and those around him. Preserving the complete privacy of a citizen’s “personal space” will lead to the fact that the Unified State Health Information System will have the most general data on the health of a resident of the region. In this case, it will only be possible to solve those problems that characterize the health of the region’s inhabitants, which were solved without any digitalization. The second level of problems is associated with the work of “Uniform State Health Information System” and support programs operating at the level of the regional health care system. The main regional problems associated with “EGISZ” are: problems of licensing of auxiliary programs; problems of accounting for the quantitative parameters of the development of the Uniform State Health Information System and auxiliary programs; problems of control over the work of auxiliary programs; problems of control over the filling of the Uniform State Health Information System; the problem of “user-friendliness of the interface” (especially for departments with cases of “peak work” – emergency departments). Separately, it should be noted the issues that are not problems of the functioning of the Uniform State Health Information System, but more characterize the new opportunities that arise in the presence of the Unified State Health Information System, which has a wide range of knowledge about human health. Uniform State Health Information System allows to solve in a different way the traditional tasks of an informational, organizational, medical, economic, scientific and educational nature that exist in the region. Conclusions. Any information system is a tool for solving management problems. Without eliminating the problems of replenishing the Uniform State Health Information System with data on the factors influencing the health of the inhabitants of the region, it is impossible to effectively solve the problems of preserving and strengthening the health of the citizens of the region. The data, which, in accordance with the Federal Law “On Personal Data”, are included in the list of closed data, are encrypted in the EGIZS. To oblige the regional health authorities to introduce a licensing mechanism for programs interacting with the regional Unified State Health Information System. The development of regional Uniform State Health Information System will lead to a radical change in the view of the traditional tasks of information, organizational, medical, economic, scientific and educational nature, solved in the region.

Semantics Management for a Regional Health Information System in Italy by CTS2 and FHIR.

An infrastructure for the management of semantics is being developed to support the regional health information exchange in Veneto - an Italian region which has about 5 million inhabitants. Terminology plays a key role in the management of the information fluxes of the Veneto region, in which the management of electronic health record is given great attention. An architecture for the management of the semantics of laboratory reports has been set up, adopting standards by HL7. The system has been initially developed according to the common terminology service release 2 (CTS2) standard and, in order to overcome complexities of CTS2 is being revised according to the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard, which has been subsequently introduced. Aspects of CST2 and of FHIR have been considered in order to retain most suitable aspects of both. This integration can be regarded as most worthwhile.

Global Trends of Regional Health Information Systems and Suggested Strategic Utilization of their Medical Information

ObjectivesAlong with the exponentially-growing data produced and accumulated every day through mobile platforms, social networking services, the Internet, and other media, information is becoming increasingly important as a strategic resource. This report presents specific and clear directions and suggests empirical project plans regarding innovations in regional health information systems to promote the utilization of medical information.MethodsWe reviewed and examined documents about global trends and examples of regional health information systems. The problems and solutions of health information utilization and regional health information systems in Korea were analyzed.ResultsThis study presented examples of the establishment of health information systems, problems in the use of local healthcare information, and an empirical project for improvement.ConclusionsThe results of this study imply the need for long-term and systematic approaches for the use of medical information and the establishment of a local healthcare information system, along with implementation plans. As a first step, it is imperative to clarify the goal of building a medical information system, the information that must be provided to build the system, and the data that should be collected to provide such information, while moving away from the mentality of focusing on technology-oriented medical information services. In addition, it is necessary to consider information governance, data-based service development, and the medical innovation framework, which are ways to efficiently manage, utilize, and systemize the data to be collected.
