Trend Topic in School-based Lesson Study for Learning Community in Transformational Program

Implementation of lesson study encourages Reflective Practitioners to get used to collaborating in learning practice. In Indonesia, educational programs have been designed with collaboration in mind, promoting a reflection process within the learning community. This research focuses on trending topics/themes of reflective practitioners in supporting the sustainability of their learning communities. The participants involved in this study were 75 reflective practitioners consisting of school principals (P), school supervisors (SS), and learning committee teachers (T). Through the Facilitating School Program (FSP) Questionnaire, information was obtained that two topics were becoming trends by all reflective practitioners in Learning Community for Reflective Practitioners (LCRP) activities in schools, namely, commitment to improving quality sustainably 85.3% and conducting research collaboratively 841%. Schools must collaborate with teachers and principals to design straightforward school programs so that these two topics can be implemented smoothly

The Model of Project Management as a Sustainable Pedagogical Device: Case Study Research in the Tertiary Education Environment

The objective of the research was to analyse the use of project management as a sustainable pedagogical device capable of fostering in tertiary education students the development of those transversal skills that enhance their sustainable employability. The qualitative research design was the emergent grounded theory, applied through a case study methodology (first exploratory and then explanatory). The “Seven-factor model of project management as a sustainable pedagogical device” for the development of transversal skills in tertiary education was the main result presented. It is composed of the factors that can be transposed from practice into the context of tertiary education and contains a description of the method for this translation. Moreover, the “holistic project management integration approach in tertiary education” was presented, and it was explained why it is an effective top-down transformation process for integrating project management in every program or academic level. Learning project management proves effective in enhancing students’ employability by fostering a process of critical reflection that enables them to develop a sustainable career aligned with their expectations and personal growth as individuals, professionals, and sustainable citizens.

Rethinking Collective Reflection in Teacher Professional Development

Collective reflection, which has become a de rigueur activity in teacher training and professional development, is predicated upon Schön’s theory of reflective practice. This concept, according to which people learn to be reflective-in-action through reflection on practice, relates primarily to individual and one-on-one mentorship processes. The shift from individual to collective processes has gone largely unstudied and unproblematized. This study of collective teacher reflection in a professional development workshop calls prevailing assumptions into question by bringing an alternative lens, textual trajectories, to bear on this ubiquitous activity to better account for oft-ignored issues of context and identity. Using linguistic ethnographic methods, it traces textual trajectories of key ideas indexed in a collective reflection event. Key findings include the nonlinearity of the reflective process and the centrality of identity-work in collective teacher reflection. This study thus reveals functions of this ritual that belie its ostensible purposes and suggest a rethinking of this practice.

Interprofessional reflective practice to improve pediatric healthcare outcomes

ABSTRACT There is limited research on the combined concepts of interprofessional reflective practice on healthcare outcomes. This research sought to better understand the concepts of interprofessional and reflective practice when utilized together to assess provider perception of improved healthcare outcomes in a pediatric setting. This article explores these concepts while also contributing to the body of knowledge for pediatric healthcare providers and quality improvement (QI) practices. After completion of a reflective QI project, 50 pediatric providers including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians were surveyed utilizing the reflective practice questionnaire (RPQ) along with other QI relevant healthcare data points. The results of this research demonstrated that interprofessional providers perceived the reflective project beneficial to improve their care to the pediatric population. These perceptions were consistent with the sister QI project that revealed significant improvements in care, thus validating the perceptions of the providers. Furthermore, provider participants demonstrated statistically significant overall satisfaction with an interprofessional reflective process. Many strides have been made utilizing both concepts in the educational preparation of healthcare providers with intentions to improve healthcare outcomes. This research supports the concept that pediatric healthcare outcomes may be improved through interprofessional reflective practice.

A New eHealth Investment Appraisal Framework for Africa: Validation.

(1) Background: Decisions to use eHealth are complex and involve addressing a large opportunity cost. Sound choices are essential. Weighing up investment options is challenging in resource-constrained settings where there are frequently insufficient economics data and expertise to conduct adequate appraisals. To address this, a new eHealth Investment Appraisal Framework (eHIAF) for Africa has been designed and developed. The aim of this paper was to validate the new framework to consider whether it is fit for purpose and to refine it as needed. (2) Methods: An online survey of purposively selected eHealth experts was used to conduct a desktop validation of the proposed eHIAF for Africa. The survey covered the framework development process, structure, content, completeness, and utility. Expert opinions were charted, and a reflective and iterative process used to assess the tool and extract recommendations for refinement. (3) Results: Eleven eHealth experts who completed the survey had experience in African countries and elsewhere. The majority agreed with the eHIAF for Africa development approach and output. They provided valuable suggestions for minor refinements and felt that with these amendments, the eHIAF for Africa would be 'fit for purpose'. (4) Conclusions: The eHIAF for Africa is considered appropriate for use by policy- and decision-makers working in resource-constrained settings who face the task of selecting optimal eHealth investments. It has the potential for applicability beyond Africa and the framework should now be tested in African countries.

What is novel about the Metaverse?

The Metaverse is not a radical departure. It is an incremental evolution. Previous virtual worlds, like Second Life, have laid the groundwork for the development of the Metaverse by providing valuable insights into virtual environments and social interactions. Studies of these earlier platforms contribute to a more nuanced understanding of what the Metaverse is, and what it is not. Based on studies of virtual worlds and by applying inductive processes of reflection and abstraction, we propose a framework that supports the identification of attributes that help differentiate the Metaverse from previous virtual worlds from a user experience perspective. We demonstrate the value of the framework by comparing the Metaverse to Second Life. Our framework and comparative analysis ground the current discussions about the Metaverse deeper in the established discourse on virtual worlds. They also shed light on the potential impact of the Metaverse, the special role of its immersiveness and help us to identify lessons learned that can inform the Metaverse's further development.

Service user experiences of participating in a Recovery and Collaborative Care Planning Café framed with CHIME:

The Recovery and Collaborative Care Planning Café (RCCP) used World Café principles[i] to foster inquiry and learning about recovery by talking about important questions in a safe environment that allowed supportive relationships to form. Changing conversations towards recovery and living well with conditions by applying CHIME[ii] as a framework was an important part of the method. CHIME incorporates Connectedness, Hope, Identity, Meaning and Empowerment to help shape conversations. The monthly cafés began with a masterclass exploring each concept in turn and this was then followed by a World Café conversation. Through undertaking a reflective story process with four active service user participants, it became clear that these concepts resonated strongly; their feedback was that the cafe had led to growth and positive health changes and had helped them to develop supportive peer networks and increased stability. This article describes the methodology and explores the impact through service user voices.

Higher education students perceptions of NNESTs' language proficiency: will it affect their learning effectiveness?

Increasingly, higher education institutions are giving more attention to the language proficiency of non-native English-speaking teachers (NNESTs) due to their growing numbers. Despite a recent surge in the literature on NNESTs in the global discourse of English language teaching (ELT), the impacts of NNESTs' language competency within the higher education systems of their countries remain woefully under-examined. Of particular concern is the absence of students' voices. Therefore, this study explores higher education students' perception of NNESTs' language proficiency. Data was collected through class observations of five NNESTs and followed-up semi-structured interviews with five student focus groups recruited randomly from each class. Our results show that while students concur that NNESTs' language proficiency contributes to their learning performance in class, other factors (e.g., the teacher's effective teaching style and charming personality, relaxed class atmosphere, the difficulty level of the teaching materials, and the learners' proficiency level) also perceived to play key roles in boosting students' class learning effectiveness. The findings highlight the need to include students in the design of teaching approaches, course design, and curricula, as well as the reflection process about NNESTs' language proficiency.

Development and Validation of the Marburg Self-Regulation Questionnaire for Teachers (MSR-T)

This study presents the development and validation of a new measurement tool, the Marburg Self-regulation Questionnaire for Teachers (MSR-T). The questionnaire measures the self-regulatory processes of planning, monitoring and reflection in teacher-relevant contexts and aims to help assess and understand teachers’ self-regulatory skills in a broader context. In order to provide a reliable and valid instrument, an integrative framework model was developed and items were generated. In two online studies (N = 255; N = 356) involving German-speaking (trainee) teachers and student teachers, the psychometric properties were examined and the items were revised after conducting confirmatory factor analysis. Further, discriminant and convergent validity was examined by administering our scale along with indicators of professional restraint, self-efficacy and other constructs that are related to self-regulation. The MSR-T encompasses 27 items and showed acceptable to good internal consistencies. Moreover, validity analyses indicated good convergent and discriminant validity, making it an economical yet specific tool that can be used to assess self-regulatory processes, including planning, monitoring and reflection, within a specific context. The context-unspecific wording of the questionnaire allows for transferability to other professional contexts, opening up avenues for the examination of self-regulation research in different fields.

The Influence of Talent Management, Knowledge Management, and Job Satisfaction on Employee Performance at PT Jasamarga Pandaan Tol

This research is a quantitative research aimed at determining and demonstrating the influence of Talent Management, Knowledge Management, and Job Satisfaction on Employee Performance in PT Jasamarga Pandaan Tol. This research utilizes the Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis technique with the assistance of SmartPLS 3.0 software. The analysis includes validity testing, reliability testing, R-square testing, and hypothesis testing. The population and sample used in this research consist of all employees of PT Jasamarga Pandaan Tol, totaling 119 respondents. The sampling technique employed in this research is total sampling, where all members of the population are included as participants. Data collection was conducted through interviews and the distribution of questionnaires via Google Forms. The results of the testing indicate that (1) talent management has a positive and significant partial effect on employee performance, (2) knowledge management has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, and (3) job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. The results of this research have both theoretical and practical implications. The information provided in this research aims to enhance understanding and knowledge in the field of human resource management. It also offers insights for companies as they consider and reflect upon addressing existing issues. The findings serve as valuable input for decision-making and reflection processes. Participation in this research aims to assist the company in addressing specific issues, particularly those related to talent management, knowledge management, and job satisfaction in relation to employee performance.

Transcreation matters: A learner centric participatory approach for adapting cancer prevention messages for Latinos

BackgroundAdvancing health equity requires innovative patient education approaches for adapting English-language evidence-based interventions (EBIs) to resonate with multicultural, multilingual audiences. ObjectiveExamine the benefit, functionality, and practical considerations of transcreation (translation + cultural adaptation) as a critical and salient learner-centric process for developing a Spanish-language intervention (photonovella + video): Un examen sencillo para un colon saludable (A simple test for a healthy colon). Patient/community involvementWe involved patients/community members in a participatory reflective process, from problem identification to intervention design, development, delivery, and impact measurement. MethodsA community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach involving formative research plus systematic iterative pretesting and learner verification checks augmented by a community advisory board guided the transcreation processes. ResultsData collected using a learner-centric approach effectively produced a new Spanish-language EBI and substantiated the value of co-learner/co-design methods. Learner-centric methods identified cultural nuances that were treated as knowledge and integrated into the intervention materials and study design. Pilot testing of the intervention among Latinos receiving care at community clinics demonstrated improved initial colorectal cancer screening uptake, awareness, and perceived susceptibility. DiscussionInherent in the transcreation process was learner involvement that informed essential modification and adaptation of the materials. The transcreation methods led to the development of a culturally salient intervention that maintained theoretical integrity and message intent as well as behavioral activation. Findings have broad implications for the creation and transfer of EBIs to new audiences for greater adoption, engagement, and ‘reach’ of interventions. Practical valueTranscreation aligns with a growing paradigm shift in health communication science that brings to light the beneficial effect that construction and application of cultural knowledge has on patient education toward health equity.

In the Unrest of Implication: Museum Education Methods in Atmospheres of Scandalization

ABSTRACT In this essay, we explore ways in which cultural and museum spaces can be opened up to meaningful discussions about difficult topics and how this can be done through specific educational formats. We attempt to look critically at some of the assumptions that are around in critical museum education theory and practices, e.g. influences coming from standpoint theory. The goal is to understand our own unconscious biases as we develop methods to help address problematic issues such as racism and anti-Semitism. We argue that these biases are shaped by a logic of dichotomy that allows to position oneself on “the good side.” Especially in an atmosphere of scandalization, these dichotomies might hinder mutual learning situations. We propose using Michael Rothberg’s concept of the “implicated subject” to develop approaches and methods that move beyond dichotomous thinking patterns. We will try to illustrate our reflection process with three examples that also show that taking (one’s own) implication seriously has unsettling effects that can stall the development of methods that seek to open spaces also for conflictual discussions.

Mathematical model of radiation scattering on a quasi – periodic structure in an optical fiber

The paper considers a quasi – periodic microheterogeneity structure formed under the effect of optical fiber melting, which can be used as a sensitive element for an optical sensor based on a Fabry – Perot interferometer or an optical radiation scatterer with improved flexibility and strength parameters. Mathematical modeling of the process of transmission and reflection of radiation on the microcavities of the intrafiber structure will make it possible to predict the characteristics of the developed sensors. The simulation was carried out in the COMSOL Multyphysics simulation package. A section of a single – mode SMF-28e fiber with microinhomogeneities located in the core, the dimensions of which were measured in the course of an empirical study, is considered. To solve the problem, a system of equations was compiled that describes the propagation of a plane electromagnetic wave in matter. The results obtained showed that the calculated reflection spectrum qualitatively coincides with the measured value, but does not describe it with high accuracy. This may be due to the fact that the model does not take into account intermode interference in the fiber, and does not have an introduced melt zone around microcavities, since such a melt zone has a complex refractive index distribution and composition

Balletic bodies under lockdown: The consequences of a pandemic for highly disciplined habitus.

Like other elite athletes, ballet dancers are highly dedicated to the pursuit of their vocation. They work to perfect their bodies, their movements and their expression of the art form. The lockdowns that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic represented a significant interruption to the extraordinary but everyday lives of ballet dancers, creating unique environments where exploration of the embodied habitus of ballet can be further investigated. The impacts of lockdown upon dancers were explored via a series of interviews with 12 professional dancers from Germany. Framed by previous research, theorising the balletic body from a Bourdieusian perspective, interview data were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Our research highlights the way in which COVID-19 lockdowns and associated restrictions disrupt the habitus of dancers and results in a form of suffering that is comparable to injury or chronic illness. Our research suggests that individuals respond to the 'structural injuries' of lockdown measures in a manner comparable to the way they respond to physiological injury. Thus, dancers sought to repair or re-establish the social structures they ordinarily inhabit whilst the inevitable limitations of such efforts engendered occasions for reflexive thinking about their role, careers and identity as dancers.

Asking the right questions: The role of reflection for learning in and between projects

Learning is crucial for project-based organisations to improve and survive. As reflection is essential for learning in and between projects, this article examines how reflection unfolds and under which conditions it can act as a project learning mechanism. Using five gate reviews at a Dutch contractor as an embedded single case study, we show that reflection is necessary for but cannot guarantee the learning in and between projects. Reflection is emerging from and embedded in the specific context of interpersonal project work. This reflection-for-action stimulates the learning for the ongoing project, incorporates experience made in previous projects, and draws implications for future projects. However, for reflection to become a project learning mechanism, the reflection process needs to proceed to later phases and higher intensities which depends on the relevance of the project issue at hand, the motivation of project team members to discuss this issue, and the reflection support they receive.

(Audio)visual Artivist Research in Anti-Colonial and Anti-Racist Key

This article conceives of the University as a laboratory for the creation of anti-racist and anti-colonial practices through arts, communication, and education. It proposes the realization of (audio)visual artivist practices with an anti-colonial and anti-racist focus as the articulating axis of artistic creation experiences, art education, and educational research. It suggests the creation and exhibition of commented collages and short films of appropriation as instruments for individuals and groups to question colonialism and racism, both in the fields of audiovisual, visual, and sound culture, as well as in the field of their family, school, and cultural consumption formation; while promoting the re-existence of native and Afro-descendant identities, cultures, knowledge, and memories. It employs conceptual and methodological tools of critical pedagogy, visual anthropology, and film studies to describe how anti-“Indian” and anti-“Black” racism and the appreciation for cultural and physical whiteness can be reproduced and resisted. It recovers testimonies from situated processes of critical reflection on one’s personal and family history in relation to the reproduction of colonial and racist violence. It describes a methodological proposal to make (audio)visual artistic analysis and creation tools in the construction of knowledge and emotions for the social transformation of reality, and instruments to build a culture of peace, social justice, and historical memory.

Encourage reflective and self-assessment processes through the automatic processing of personalized feedback

Technologies in training processes by radically modifying the relationship with (and between) knowledge, have determined the need to experiment with new methodological approaches to innovate didactic action, respond to subjective training needs, satisfy the ever increasing requests coming from the job market. In this paper, we want to deepen a particular action of this process, preliminary to the implementation phase of each training intervention. We refer to the needs analysis (NA) aimed at identifying training needs and requirements of the participants with respect to which to organize and modulate the contents and the didactic action. In the opinion of the author, already the NA, if accompanied by specific actions, can constitute an intentionally structured moment to enhance the effectiveness of training feedback in a diagnostic and self-assessment function and in this work we will describe an automated system designed and developed specifically for this purpose. To examine the application opportunities and to show the potential of the automated system, an experience will be presented that involved students attending the specialization course for educational support activities for pupils with disabilities held at the University of Salerno in the A.Y. 2022/2023.

From digital display to printed page: An exploration of the use of digital comic adaptations and hybridizations in print comic formats

This article identifies some of the adaptations and hybridizations that have come about through the digital mediation of the form of comics. It then presents the results of a practice-based inquiry into the integration of these digital adaptations and hybridizations into existing print comic formats. A reflective design process is employed during the creation of three prototype print comic narratives. These prototypes include print-based approaches to the infinite canvas, panel delivery and hypercomic formats. The inquiry aims to contrast different approaches to spatiality and the design unit of the page in digital and print comics. In doing so it provides an examination of the creative tensions that exist between the fixed, physical configurations of print and the more mutable nature of digital media.

독거노인의 집단미술치료 경험에 대한 질적 사례연구

The purpose of this study is to find out what the elderly living alone experience through the group art therapy program and the process of change due to participation. This was conducted as a program for self-awareness and emotional recovery by facing mental and physical changes expressed in life in old age and internal conflicts and anxiety felt in life. Participants in the study were selected as eight elderly people living alone who experienced bereavement over the age of 65 belonging to the elderly welfare center, and a total of 10 sessions were conducted. As a research method, Stake (1995) and Yin (2009)’s qualitative case study procedures were classified and analyzed into topics containing meaning among the total contents. As a result of the study, the empirical meaning of the group art therapy program of the elderly living alone gave flexibility to the rigid emotional response and showed active changes in the behavioral aspect. The progression of aging according to the characteristics of old age can cause a decrease in overall function, but by continuing self-expression through art work, the speed of cognitive awareness and work response has improved and language literacy has become abundant. Functional learning and emotional stimulation through the use of art media were found to have helped improve achievement and self-exploration, helping to perform positive flexibility, voluntary roles, and self-understanding and reflection processes in the bond between participants.
