Analisis Penentuan Frekuensi Pengiriman Guna Meminimalkan Biaya Transportasi Dengan Menggunakan Metode Distribution Requirement Planning (DRP)

PT. SM, a company engaged in fertilizer production. The purpose of the study is to identify and address the problems facing companies with less optimal shipping frequency and high transportation costs. In this study, DRP techniques were selected because they allowed the planning and scheduling of product distribution to be efficient. The research process begins with data collection such as product demand, operational cost, and shipping routes. Analysis is conducted to identify more effective sales management solutions. The results of the survey showed that the DRP method reduced sales costs significantly compared to the methods the company previously used. Based on calculation, the total distribution cost of the company incurred before applying the DRP method in a given delivery period is Rp 22.050.000. After applying the DRP methode, the total distribution cost reaches Rp 14. 700. 000,- equivalent to savings of Rp 7. 350. 000 or about 33.33%. Thus, the implementation of DRP methods not only reduces transportation costs but also improves the efficiency of product distribution management.. Keywords : Cost Analysis, DRP, EOQ, Forecasting

Transportation and production collaborative scheduling optimization with multi-layer coding genetic algorithm for non-pipelined wells.

The marginal wells in low-permeability oil fields are characterized by small storage size, scattered distribution, intermittent production, etc. The construction of large-scale gathering pipelines has large investment. So the current production mode is featured by single well tank oil storage, oil tank truck transportation and manual tank truck scheduling. At present, oil well production and crude oil transportation scheduling mainly rely on manual formulation, which has poor coordination and seriously restricts the release of oil well production capacity and the reduction of transportation cost. A mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model representation was proposed in our previous work. The scale of the built model variables is huge, and the model solution time is long. In this paper, a genetic algorithm based on multi-layer coding is proposed. The first layer of the design code is the driving path of the oil tanker, and the second layer is the crude oil loading and unloading amount and the cumulative time. The algorithm expands the search domain by flipping, exchanging and shifting the code. In the case analysis part, the exact algorithm and the genetic algorithm designed in this paper are used to solve cases of different scales (5, 10, 30 and 200 oil wells) respectively, and the correctness and effectiveness of the algorithm are verified. The results show that, compared with the exact algorithm, the genetic algorithm designed in this paper can quickly solve a feasible scheduling scheme under different oil well scales, especially in the case of large-scale (200 wells) oil well groups. The optimal one-time result in the calculation example (200 wells) takes 1062.3s to run, and the total driving distance of all tank trucks in the obtained feasible scheme is 11280km. This study can guide oilfields to quickly formulate dispatching plans and minimize travel distances in non-pipeline well tanker dispatching.

Energy and exergy analysis of solar convective drying under arid climate of hydroxide sludge

In the industry, the drying process is a fundamental operation that consumes a lot of energy and time. This method is used in order to manage the huge mass and volume produced by the drinking water treatment plants as well as the reduction of transport costs. The present work aims to study the drying kinetics of hydroxide sludge in order to obtain the drying curves at different temperatures (40, 60 and 80°C) and drying air flows of 150 and 300 m3.h−1 as well as energy and exergy efficiency analysis. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the increase in drying temperature results in a shorter drying time. In order to evaluate the solar dryer performance, an energy analysis was carried out. An analysis of the exergy at the drying chamber and evaporation transfer was performed. The convective dryer’s energy and exergy efficiencies are ranged from 2.72 to 5.07% and 42 to 63% respectively.

Strawberry (Fragaria L.) transportation model in Mexico for Closed Market

The objective of this research is to develop a transportation model for the optimization of strawberry distribution in Mexico in a closed market through the use of linear programming. The formulation of this model includes the objective function and supply and demand constraints derived from various calculations and research. The information gathered comes from official sources such as SIACON, INEGI and the Foreign Trade Information Cube of the Bank of Mexico. On the other hand, transportation costs are calculated using GlobalMap© and the resolution of the model through LINDO 6.1® software. This model allows for the identification of optimal routes and quantities for distribution between strawberry supplying and demanding states, and not only optimizes internal logistics, but also reduces transportation costs.

Study of Flax Shive Pellet Combustion in Cyclone-Bed Furnace with Bubbling Fluidised Bed

Flax shive is a by-product of flax processing enterprises. It can be used as fuel in municipal and industrial energy enterprises along with other types of agricultural waste (straw, sunflower husk, rice husk, etc.). The use of agricultural waste as fuel is very important for the sustainable development of municipal and industrial energy in small towns and villages, as it allows for the recycling of waste, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and the creation of new jobs in the production of pellets from waste. Flax shive has a low bulk density in its initial state. To achieve a significant reduction in transport and storage costs, flax shives should be produced as pellets. The pellets from flax shives can be combusted in a fluidised bed of inert material. To do this, an optimal hydrodynamic structure of the bed should be created, taking into account the rapid heating of pellets placed in the bed, as well as the efficient combustion of coke residue and volatile substances. Studies on a cold model showed that the hydrodynamic structure of the fluidised bed is influenced by the way the inlet air is distributed into the fluidised bed. Studies were carried out with flat inlet air distribution, with convex inlet air distribution (64% of the total amount of air for fluidisation is supplied under the central part of the air distribution grate) and with concave air distribution (80% of the air for fluidisation is supplied under the peripheral part of the air distribution grate). Concave air distribution creates optimum conditions for pellet combustion. Intensive particle circulation is noted in the lower part of the fluidised bed, which prevents the pellets entering the bed from settling on the air distribution grate. At the same time, in the upper part of the bed, conditions for uniform thermal destruction of pellets across the entire cross-section of the furnace are created. Experiments on a pilot furnace with vortex afterburning of volatile substances in the furnace’s disengaging space were carried out using a grid plate, forming a concave inlet air velocity profile. The combustion efficiency of pellets made of flax shive in such a furnace was 98.91–99.84%.

OPTIMIZING READY-MIXED CONCRETE TRANSPORTATION BY A TRUCK MIXER ROUTING MODEL FOR CONCRETE PLANTS

This study aims to develop a truck mixer routing model to increase the efficiency of concrete delivery operations in concrete plants and to propose suitable solution methods for the model. In this study, a mixed-integer linear programming model was developed, based on a variant of the vehicle routing problem known as the capacitated vehicle routing problem with time windows, by incorporating constraints specific to concrete transportation. The objective of the model is to reduce transportation costs by minimizing the total distance travelled by truck mixers and the total number of truck mixers used. The model was first addressed by exact solution methods in Gurobi Optimizer. Since the vehicle routing problem is classified as an NP-hard problem, the complexity of the model increases with the number of customers, leading to a longer computation time. Thus, the model was addressed by a heuristic method developed for this study. The results show that the Gurobi Optimizer provided optimal solutions for up to 15 customers and 15 vehicles within a reasonable computation time, whereas the heuristic method quickly provided near-optimal solutions with a 3.39% cost increase on average.

Bridging Innovation Distances: High‐Speed Rail and Patent Agency Utilization in China

ABSTRACTInnovation intermediaries are instrumental in enhancing the efficacy of the innovation process, yet their accessibility tends to be geographically restricted, particularly in underdeveloped regions. This study examines whether the development of transportation infrastructure can alleviate these spatial frictions, promoting cross‐regional utilization of intermediary services and subsequently improving innovation outcomes. Leveraging a unique database on patent agency utilization for all invention patents in China from 2003 to 2019, and employing high‐speed rail (HSR) as a natural experiment, we estimate a staggered difference‐in‐difference model at the city‐pair level. Our findings suggest that reductions in transportation costs lead to a substantial increase in cross‐city PAU after HSR connection, especially in sectors with higher technology sophistication requiring more face‐to‐face interactions between inventors and agents. This research uncovers a novel mechanism through which HSR influences innovation and provides policy implications for optimizing innovation intermediaries through infrastructure development.

Mothers' Experiences with Postnatal Home Visits by Community Health Nurses in Selected Districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana

Background: Efforts have been made to improve maternal and child health care globally, with a focus on promoting postnatal care for mothers and babies. Timely intervention during the postpartum period can potentially avert health issues from progressing into chronic conditions, which could have lasting consequences on women, infants, and their families. In spite of the known significance of postnatal visits for enhancing maternal and child health care, concerns still exist regarding maternal and infant health care in the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole. This study aimed to explore and describe mothers’ experiences of postnatal home visits received from community health nurses’ (CHNs) in selected districts of the Ashanti Region, Ghana. Method: Qualitative research method was used to collect data from the study participants. Semi-structured interviews were conducted using 15 postnatal mothers. Data were analysed using a thematic analysis approach. Results: One main theme and two categories emerged from the overall analysis of the data from the mothers. Theme emerged was: experiences of mothers during postnatal home visits. The two key categories included: 1. Encouraging experiences with postnatal home visits; highlighting emotional support, skilled nursing care, dedicated time and continuous support from some CHNs and 2. Barriers to effective postnatal home visitation; emphasizing challenges such as negative attitudes of some CHNs, resource constraints, cultural conflicts with evidence-based modern practices and inconsistent caregivers. Conclusion: Mothers appreciated the convenience of receiving baby assessments and immunizations at home, avoiding long queues and reducing transportation costs. Furthermore, trusting, respectful relationship between nurses and mothers significantly enhances communication, making mothers more receptive to guidance and health advice. Attentive listening, emotional support, and consistent care from community health nurses contribute to a positive bond, leading to greater comfort and confidence among mothers in discussing health concerns.

The tariff regulation of railway freight transportation in EU

The article examines the provisions of the EU legislation on the tariff regulation of rail freight transportation, as well as the prospects of their implementation in the domestic system of industry regulation. It is emphasized that the implementation of European rules of tariff regulation on railway transport is an important factor in the development of a competitive environment in the market of transport services, as well as a necessary prerequisite for the attraction of internal and external investments in the development of the railway industry. Such adaptation is extremely important for reducing transport costs, improving the quality of services and the overall efficiency of rail freight transportation. The key provisions of the Directive of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe of 21.11.2012 № 2001/14/EU “Creation of a single European railway space”, which defines the rules for collecting fees for the use of railway infrastructure by freight transport operators, are highlighted. It is emphasized that the Directive envisages the separation of infrastructure management and transport operations to prevent conflicts of interest and stimulate fair competition among market operators. It also defines railway companies’ rights to access infrastructure and establishes transparent pricing mechanisms. The article examines the European experience of creating independent regulatory bodies authorized to monitor market practices, monitor compliance with safety standards, and ensure fair pricing mechanisms. It was concluded that the implementation of the provisions of the EU legislation on the tariff regulation of rail freight transportation will ensure a significant increase in the competitiveness of domestic rail transport by improving the access of national carriers to the European transport infrastructure, optimizing logistics on rail transport, ensuring transparency and reasonableness of pricing, creating equal conditions for national railway operators. The importance of the consistent implementation of the provisions of the EU legislation on the tariff regulation of rail freight transportation in the context of the Europeanization of domestic legislation on rail transport and the regulatory approximation provided for by the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU is emphasized.

One Shoe to Fit Them All? Effect of Various Carbon Plate Running Shoes on Running Economy in Male and Female Amateur Triathletes and Runners at Individual Training and Race Paces

Carbon plate running shoes (CPRSs) have gained widespread popularity among elite and amateur runners, representing one of the most substantial changes in running gear over the past decade. Compared to elite runners, however, amateurs run at lower speeds and show more diverse running styles. This is a meaningful difference as many previous studies on CPRSs focus either on highly trained male runners and higher speeds or only on a single CPRSs manufacturer. The present study aims at bridging this gap by investigating how CPRSs from four different manufacturers affect running economy in amateurs of both sexes at their individual running speeds. For this purpose, 21 trained amateur triathletes (12 men; 9 women) completed an incremental treadmill test until volitional exhaustion, yielding running speeds at ventilatory thresholds 1 (vVT1) and 2 (vVT2). In a second session, subjects ran five trials of 3 × 3 min (speeds of 90% vVT1, ½ (vVT1 + vVT2), and 100% vVT2), wearing one out of four different pairs of CPRSs or their own preferred non-CPRS shoes in each trial. Our results show that tested CPRS models resulted in a significant reduction in the mean energy cost of transport, compared to the non-CPRS control condition, with Cohen’s d amounting to −1.52 (p = 0.016), 2.31 (p < 0.001), 2.57 (p < 0.001), and 2.80 (p < 0.001), respectively, although effect sizes varied substantially between subjects and running speeds. In conclusion, this study provides evidence that amateur athletes may benefit from various manufacturers’ CPRS models at their typical running speeds to a similar degree as highly trained runners. It is recommended that amateur athletes evaluate a range of CPRSs and select the shoe that elicits the least subjective sensation of fatigue over a testing distance of at least 400–1000 m.

Comparative Assessments of At-Sea and Inland Low- and Medium-Pressure CO2 Transport

Developing cost-efficient systems for transporting CO2 is key to accelerating the deployment of carbon capture and storage. The present work explores the impact of reducing the pressure of tank-based inland and at-sea transport on their techno-economic performance. The study uses established techno-economic models for CO2 transport, adjusted with the most up-to-date knowledge on the costs of low-pressure containment and transport. In particular, the impact of cargo tank material and design on the transport costs show that low-pressure cargo tank systems can be 50% less expensive than medium-pressure systems if materials with similar price and strength can be used. This results in reductions in transport costs as high as 30% for long distances. This is partly driven by the currently suggested size limitation on medium-pressure shipping that limits its economies of scale. If this limitation is alleviated, the cost advantage of low-pressure shipping compared to medium-pressure is more limited (10–20%) although it remains advantageous. The same scaling effects on capacity were not found for truck and barge inland transport, thus yielding 1–10% cost reductions of low-pressure transport relative to medium-pressure transport. These results imply that future systems may combine medium-pressure inland and low-pressure at-sea transport and that efficient solutions connecting the two must be investigated.

Research on Low-Carbon Site Selection Decision Model and Algorithm for Green Logistics

This work proposes a low-carbon site selection decision model and algorithm for green logistics. The focus is to minimize carbon emissions while optimizing the distribution network. With the development of smart shared logistics and increasing environmental awareness, there is an urgent need to tackle issues in urban logistics, including pollution, resource inefficiency, high carbon energy usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. By integrating geographic, environmental, and operational data, the proposed site selection model incorporates multi-objective optimization to balance carbon efficiency with cost-effectiveness in logistics site selection. We employ a hybrid algorithm combining Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to solve the complex decision-making process. The model is tested using real-world logistics data, and the results demonstrate significant reductions in carbon emissions and transportation costs when compared to conventional logistics site selection methods. Further sensitivity analysis reveals that the model is robust under varying transportation demands and geographic constraints. Also, we highlight the role of green logistics in achieving corporate sustainability goals aligning with global carbon neutrality initiatives. We believe this model offers a practical approach to fostering environmentally responsible supply chains and will contribute to the advancement of sustainable logistics operations, helping organizations make informed, eco-friendly decisions in site selection.

The Logistics Cost of Cikarang Dry Port: A General Review

High logistics costs in Indonesia are thus one of the principal economic inefficiencies that restrain the country's growth and competitiveness in the global marketplace. In this context, the paper focuses on the contribution of the Cikarang Dry Port (CDP) to the national economy. This qualitative research draws on an extended narrative review of the Cikarang Dry Port. These results reflect how the CDP is pivotal in reducing logistics costs, benefiting clients and manufacturing firms around the dry port area through bettered transportation and logistics service provision. The study also puts much emphasis on the fact that logistics efficiency is not only crucial at the level of individual enterprise performance but also, more broadly, for Indonesia's economic landscape. The CDP consolidates supply chains and reduces transportation costs, ultimately building overall cost competitiveness for Indonesian enterprises in more state and international markets. The study calls for the Indonesian government to invest in developing and upgrading the infrastructure of the Cikarang and Bekasi areas. These strategic investments would also help reduce the overall cost of logistics, thereby creating an enabling environment for business operations and playing a role in the economic development and growth of the nation.

Research on Route Optimization of RO-Ro Ship Based on Ant Colony Algorithm

This study is based on an ant colony algorithm for route optimisation of roll-on roll-off (RO-RO) vessels, aiming to minimise the total cost of RO-RO shipping routes. The model takes into account factors such as port berthing cost, fuel consumption and sailing time, and ensures the stability and efficiency of the optimisation results by adjusting the algorithm parameters such as pheromone initialisation, pheromone evaporation rate and ant colony size. The results of the study provide a practical solution for ro-ro ship route optimisation, which significantly reduces the operating costs and also provides key technical support for shipping companies to compete in the global market. In addition, the study demonstrates the potential of the optimisation model to reduce transport costs, improve shipping efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, providing an effective technical support for shipping companies in an increasingly competitive global market. Through this optimisation approach, shipping companies are able to better manage their route selection, resource allocation and operational processes, enhancing market competitiveness and promoting sustainable development of the shipping industry.

Simulation study on hydrogen concentration distribution in hydrogen blended natural gas transportation pipeline.

Hydrogen is a clean energy source, and blending it with natural gas in existing pipeline networks is a key transition solution for transportation cost reduction. However, during the transportation process, a non-uniform distribution of hydrogen concentration occurs in the pipeline due to gravity. Therefore, it is necessary to study the hydrogen concentration distribution law of hydrogen-blended natural gas in pipelines. The undulation and ball valve pipelines, which are common in transport pipelines, were constructed in this study. The effects of the undulation angle, height, pipeline diameter, ball valve opening, and temperature on the distribution of the hydrogen concentration were investigated using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methods. The results indicated that the hydrogen concentration gradient changed gently with the larger diameter of the undulating pipeline, minimizing hydrogen accumulation. Higher undulation angle and smaller height differences reduces the hydrogen accumulation risk. Increasing vertical height difference of the pipeline from 5 m to 15 m increased the hydrogen volume fraction gradient by1.3 times. In the ball valve pipeline, the velocity fluctuation decreased as the ball valve opening increased. However, the hydrogen accumulation phenomenon was obvious. The opening increased from 25% to 100% and the hydrogen volume fraction gradient increased more than two times. Selecting delivery conditions with low hydrogen blending ratios, high temperatures, low pressures, and high flow rates reduces the occurrence of hydrogen buildup in the pipeline.

Reduction of Transportation Cost: Examinig the Moderating Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Implementation in Bangladesh

This study investigates the role of logistics strategies Route and Node Optimization, Shipment Consolidation, and Demand Forecasting in reducing transportation costs in the logistics sector of Bangladesh. It also explores the moderating effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the effectiveness of these strategies. With the increasing complexity of logistics operations and the growing need for cost-efficient practices, this research highlights how traditional logistics methods can be augmented with advanced AI technologies to optimize operations and achieve significant cost reductions. Data were collected through structured surveys involving 300 respondents from logistics companies in Bangladesh. Using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Multiple Regression Analysis, the relationships between the independent variables (logistics strategies), the moderating variable (AI implementation), and the dependent variable (Transportation Cost Reduction) were evaluated. The results reveal that Shipment Consolidation had the most significant impact on transportation cost reduction, followed by Demand Forecasting and Route and Node Optimization. AI implementation was found to positively moderate these relationships, enhancing the efficiency of each strategy. The findings underscore the transformative potential of AI in logistics operations, particularly in developing economies. The study contributes to both theory and practice by providing actionable recommendations for integrating AI into logistics to achieve cost efficiency. Future research directions are suggested, including exploring longitudinal impacts and expanding the study scope to other regions.

A diet containing mango peel silage impacts upon feed intake, energy supply and growth performances of male dairy calves

The major challenges for disposal of waste from fruit processing factories are high transportation costs, limited landfill availability and environmental pollution. Therefore, developing efficient waste management techniques to reduce transportation costs and environment pollution is important. In 2021, global mango production was estimated to be at 57 million tons and mango peel (MP) represents 7–24% of the whole fruit weight. MP has been considered for use as ruminant feed in the form of fresh, dried, or silage. Fresh MP was abundant during the mango season and high in fermentable carbohydrate, which can easily breakdown and pollute the environment if a proper waste management method is not implemented. Thus, in this study, fresh MP was ensiled after sun-drying for one day and then fed to male dairy calves as a roughage source to evaluate its effect on feed intake, digestibility, energy balance, BW gain, feed efficiency and blood metabolites. Eight growing crossbred weaned male dairy calves (Holstein Friesians × Zebu) were allocated into two groups [Control (n = 4) and mango peel silage (MPS, n = 4)]. This experiment lasted for 12 weeks and calves were housed in 3.0 × 1.5 meters individual pen with concrete floor. Before feeding times, the weights of feed ingredients were weighed and mixed for 15 min. Calves were then given their respective diets ad libitum twice a day, at 0800 and 1600 h. Daily feed offered and refusals were recorded to determine the daily feed intake. A digestion trial was performed over the last five days of the experiment. BW and measurements were recorded every two weeks to determine the weight gain and body physical changes. Blood was collected at the end of experiment to analyze serum biochemical parameters. Ensiling improved the energy and protein content and decreased fiber content of MP, thereby improving the forage quality. Feeding a diet containing MPS at 30% of DM weight, compared to an isonitrogenous Control diet increased (P < 0.05) feed intake, energy supply and energy balance, changes in body measurements, weight gain, feed efficiency, and glucose concentration, as well as lowered (P < 0.05) the blood urea nitrogen concentration of male dairy calves. Ensiling fresh MP after sun-drying for one day led to stable, high-DM silage. Therefore, ensiling fresh MP could improve the feed supply for ruminant production and be an effective waste management strategy for fruit processing businesses.

Evaluation of the determinants of honey producers' market outlet choices in Huye District, Southern Province of Rwanda

Beekeeping is a profitable and socially beneficial farming business among Sub-Saharan Africa’s rural forest-based communities. Honey production, which is crucial for farm household health and nutrition in Rwanda’s forest-based rural communities, is growing significantly. However, various factors influence farm household heads’ decisions regarding the best outlets for delivering honey to the nearest market. It is vital to identify these factors to optimize honey production and marketing activities. Hence, this research was conducted in Rwanda’s Southern province, where agriculture and forestry are the primary economic activities to identify the potential factors. Using a cross-sectional approach, with primary data collected over a specific period, the economic data of honey producers were analyzed using STATA version 16. In total, 152 respondents were sampled using multi-stage sampling technique. A multivariate probit regression was used to assess the determinants of market outlet choices for honey producers. The results showed that education level, distance to market, training and credit access, extension service, market information, farming experience, time spent on honey collection, quantity sold, communication, and transport cost significantly influenced honey producers' market outlet choices. To increase profits, honey producers should increase honey collection time and sales, improve client communication, form cooperatives, and negotiate better prices with potential buyers. Driving personal vehicles can also reduce transportation costs. The government and industry stakeholders can support producers by offering credit loans, market information, extension services, marketing infrastructure, and adult education. To improve honey marketing channels, industry connections should be strengthened, and capacity-building training provided to raise producer awareness.

ОПЫТ ПРИМЕНЕНИЯ НАНОБЕТОНА В ПРОИЗВОДСТВЕ ТРЕХСЛОЙНЫХ СТЕНОВЫХ ПАНЕЛЕЙ В УСЛОВИЯХ КРАЙНЕГО СЕВЕРА

For the construction in the Far North, it is important to use high-strength building materials with high frost resistance, strength and low density. Such materials include nano concrete, which includes stabilized dispersions of carbon nano-tubes. The strength and relatively light weight of the reinforced concrete product based on nano concrete determines its high characteristics of the object, which leads to a reduction in transportation costs, labor intensity, installation of structural elements and reduces the cost of the construction object by 20%. A 6x6-meter garage has been proposed as an experimental building in the conditions of the Far North. For the construction, three-layer nano concrete wall panels were man-ufactured using mobile plant technology. The use of nano concrete made it possible to reduce the thickness of the concrete layer in the structural element on each side to 25 mm and reduce the weight of the product, as well as reduce the consumption of cement in the concrete mixture.

An integrated model approach for disaster impact reduction: lessons from a slow onset disaster in Chile

Purpose The prolonged drought in Chile’s Coquimbo region has created a permanent state of emergency, forcing the state to spend millions each year distributing drinking water to rural communities. The purpose of this article is to detail a study focused on optimizing the supply of drinking water through trucks in the 15 communes of the region and how the problem was faced in a context of a slowonset disaster. Design/methodology/approach A geo-referenced census and optimization analysis of the 5.541 households that receive drinking water was conducted to determine the feasibility of removing trucks from the system. To generate a greater reduction in distribution costs, it was suggested to incorporate water distribution infrastructure projects, changing the concept of ‘expenses’ to ‘investment’. Findings The study was born out of the concern for the increased demand for drinking water from rural areas. The proposed and implemented framework allowed an additional 20% reduction in the initial transportation costs; this confirmed the assumption that the proposed optimization model alone would not offer a robust solution and was complemented and integrated with this type of alternative, forming an “integrated model”. Research limitations/implications The paper has implications for the resilience of territories affected by climate change. Practical implications The methodology can be replicated in other areas where similar interactions occur. Social implications Families impacted by drought can improve their quality of life and reduce distress in the face of the constant emergency. Originality/value This research aims to contribute knowledge from the perspective of a slow-onset disaster where water resources are scarce. It presents a framework where two disciplines converge, resulting in an “integrated model” that, through its implementation, reduces the costs of resource delivery while simultaneously improving the sanitary conditions of the beneficiary families.
