Real-Time Computer Analytical Application in Pressure Transient Analysis of Petroleum Reservoirs

The time element is of prime importance for optimistic petroleum development projects. Therefore, the frontline of “Real-time Analysis” is added into the applications of computer solving techniques for achieving and sketching up the real-time cost effectiveness in analyzing field development programs. It focuses on the phases of real-time well test data acquisition system, real-time secure access to the well test data either on field or in office and real-time data interpretation unit. This interface will yield the productive results for the field of reservoir’s pressure transient analysis and wells’ systems analysis by following the up-to-date preferred, accurate and effective well test analytical principles with modern real-time computer applications and techniques. It also lays emphasis for the comfort and reliability of data in creating best interpersonal working modes within a reputable and esteemed petroleum development organization.

Crack level estimation approach for planetary gearbox based on simulation signal and GRA

The planetary gearbox is a critical mechanism in helicopter transmission systems. A crack level estimation methodology for planetary gearbox has been devised by integrating a physical model for simulation signal generation, a statistic algorithm for feature selection and a grey relational analysis (GRA) algorithm for damage level estimation. The physical model is used to generate simulation datasets for developing and evaluating the diagnostic scheme that will be further calibrated with real world test data during application. The proposed method was calibrated with historical test data and then validated with real-time test data. The estimation results coincide with the actual test records, showing the effectiveness and accuracy of this method in providing a novel way for more accurate health monitoring and condition prediction.

Airborne Real Time Instrumentation System (ARTISt): Studi Analisis dan Perancangannya

ARTISt is an instrumentation system based on Personal Computer (PC) which is installed on board the prototype aircraft to perform presentation of flight test data in real time. The presentation consists of display the data in table mode, graphic mode, mixed mode (table and graphic), and xplot mode (graphic between 2 parameters), and also print and record the data. The data which has been recorded by ARTISt, can be used by other software through the Disk Management System (DMS). A Modified TLS-ESPRIT-Based Method for Low-Frequency Mode Identification in Power Systems Utilizing Synchrophasor Measurements

This paper proposes a method for online identification of modes corresponding to low-frequency oscillations in a power system. The proposed method has considered the effect of colored Gaussian noise produced due to filters used for signal preprocessing. In order to mitigate the effect of colored Gaussian noise, the paper first proposes a modified total least square estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques (TLS-ESPRIT) that utilizes first and second rotational shift invariance properties of the signal. In the next step, the modified TLS-ESPRIT utilizes the signal transformed in an orthogonal basis. The proposed method has been compared with the improved Prony, the TLS-ESPRIT and the fourth-order cumulant-based TLS-ESPRIT (4CB-TLS-ESPRIT) using a test signal for identification of the modes at different noise levels. Robustness of the proposed method is established in the presence of colored Gaussian noise through Monte Carlo simulations. Estimation of modes for a two-area power system, using the proposed method, is carried out in the present work. Comparison of the proposed method with other methods is also performed on real-time probing test data obtained from the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) network.

Real Time Monitoring and Forecasting of Full Scale Aircraft Static Test

To meet the airworthiness certification requirement of the full scale static test for ARJ21-700 commercial aircraft, a real time monitoring and forecasting software is presented. The software contains a database which stores all the material data, finite element analysis (FEA) model and results, strain gages and displacement transducers' information, etc. The software can also compare the test data with the FEA and theoretical results, and forecast the next and the final test results based on the analytical and test data in real time. With the support of this software, aircraft designers can monitor the strain and displacement data through distributed monitors and calculate the structure stress and safety margin in real time and can prevent unexpected accidents. Now this software has already been successfully used in the static test of ARJ21 with its high accuracy and reliability.

Life verification of large capacity Yardney Li-ion cells and batteries in support of NASA missions

Lithium-ion batteries have been used on a number of NASA missions and have been base-lined for use on a number of up-coming aerospace applications. The Li-ion cells and batteries that have been developed together with Yardney Technical Products are especially attractive due to their high specific energy and energy density, good performance over a wide operating temperature range, as well as their good calendar and cycle life performance. However, given that the Li-ion technology is relatively new to the aerospace community and that mature, large capacity prototype cells have continued to evolve over the last 10 years, real-time performance test data is especially valuable in demonstrating the capabilities over a number of environmental and application specific conditions. For this reason, we have focused on performing a number of generic and mission specific performance life tests to establish the viability of the technology to meet current and future applications. In this work, we will describe the results of a number of generic cycle life tests, including 100% depth-of-discharge (DOD) cycling at various temperatures, partial DOD cycling simulating planetary orbiters and low earth orbit (LEO) satellite conditions, as well as partial DOD mission specific testing. We will also describe the results obtained from a number of calendar life tests where the cells were stored under different conditions, such as at different temperatures and different storage modes (i.e. open circuit voltage (OCV) conditions and storage under trickle charge conditions). Methods to quantify the capacity degradation and impedance growth of the batteries when subjected to different electrical and environmental conditions will be discussed, as well as, possible degradation mechanisms that can lead to reduced lifetime. Real-Time Measurement Approach for Tracking the Actual Coefficient of>tex<$Delta V /Delta V_10$>/tex<of Electric Arc Furnace

This investigation develops a new definition of the voltage fluctuation (/spl Delta/V) electric arc furnace. Analysis of voltage flicker spectrum in the 0.25-30-Hz range reveals that the magnitude of each modulation frequency component decreases with frequency, while the standard deviation of each frequency component is high. From the statistics of electric arc furnace real time test data, the loads can be classified as weakly stationary processes, but lack a Gauss probability distribution. Traditionally, the equivalent 10-Hz voltage fluctuation (/spl Delta/V/sub 10/) value can be obtained from /spl Delta/V/3.6. However, the real world tests and statistics indicate that the ratios of /spl Delta/V//spl Delta/V/sub 10/ are 1.8, not 3.6.

A quality systems approach for identifying and controlling sources of error with point of care testing devices

Historically, due to the size and nature of the instrumentation, highly skilled laboratory professionals performed clinical testing in centralized laboratories. Today’s clinicians demand realtime test data at the point of care. This has led to a new generation of compact, portable instruments permitting ”laboratory” testing to be performed at or near the patient’s bedside by nonlaboratory workers who are unfamiliar with testing practices. Poorly controlled testing processes leading to poor quality test results are an insidious problem facing point of care testing today. Manufacturers are addressing this issue through instrument design. Providers of clinical test results, regardless of location, working with manufacturers and regulators must create and manage complete test systems that eliminate or minimize sources of error. The National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) in its EP18 guideline, ”Quality management for unit-use testing,” has developed a quality management system approach specifically for test devices used for point of care testing (POCT). Simply stated, EP18 utilizes a ”sources of error” matrix to identify and address potential errors that can impact the test result. The key is the quality systems approach where all stakeholders – professionals, manufacturers and regulators – collaboratively seek ways to manage errors and ensure quality. We illustrate the use of one quality systems approach, EP18, as a means to advance the quality of test results at point of care.

A Procedure for Comprehensive Investigation of the Fretting-Fatigue Damage of Metals

A procedure for comprehensive investigation of the fretting-fatigue damage of metals and structural alloys is described. A specific feature of the procedure is the possibility to measure and monitor the main mechanical parameters of fretting fatigue using a personal computer for primary processing and accumulation of test data in real time. The procedure developed makes it possible to reduce considerably the experimental error and to increase the informativeness and efficiency of experiments. The magnitude of electric microcurrents in fretting pairs during testing is used as the parameter for the estimation of the level of damaging processes of nonmechanical nature.

Real-Time Flight Test Control and Data Acquisition for Aircraft-Carried Weapons Systems

The Airborne Instrumentation Branch of the U.S. Naval Ordnance Test Station (NOTS), China Lake, has developed a real-time data gathering and flight test technique for weapon-system development testing. This technique uses a telemetry ground station with UHF communications equipment, a real-time digital computer, and data displays. Telemetered data from an aircraftcarried weapon system and an air-data unit are processec ana displayed during the test. Both analog and digital information are presented to a weapon-system engineer on direct-print oscillograph paper. The engineer who acts as the test director is able to change the test conditions during a test to achieve the desired results. This dynamic method of testing shortens the development period of a weapon system by reducing the time required to gather and evaluate performance data.
