This study aims to provide an in-depth overview of the implementation of the E_BMD system in the Kendari City Agriculture Service using qualitative descriptive methods. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the E-BMD system significantly increases efficiency in the management of Regional Property (BMD). Starting from identification to asset disposal. This system facilitates real-time asset recording, increases accuracy, and transparency and facilitates a more transparent and accountable asset procurement process. Although there are obstacles to employee understanding of technology, E-BMD also allows automatic maintenance scheduling, although limited human resources and budget constrain its implementation. In asset disposal, this system helps accelerate the process of eliminating unusable assets, although employee training still needs to be improved. Overall, E-BMD has great potential to increase efficiency, transparency and accountability in regional asset management. However, optimization requires increased human resource competency and improved coordination between agencies. Recommendations include ongoing training for employees and increased budget allocation to support the operation and maintenance of the system on an ongoing basis. These findings indicate that with the right steps, E-BMD can be optimized to support more effective and efficient asset management in the future.

Flexible yet Durable Microneedle Electrodes Based on Nanowire-Embedded Polyimide for Precise Wearable Electrophysiological Monitoring.

A precise recording of electrophysiological signals requires high-performance flexible bioelectrodes to build a robust skin interface. The past decade has witnessed encouraging progress in the development of elastomeric electrodes for wearable electrophysiological monitoring; however, it remains challenging to achieve excellent flexibility, conformal contact, and high durability simultaneously. Herein, we report on an effective method to fabricate flexible yet durable microneedle electrodes (MEs) based on vertically aligned gold nanowires (Au NWs) embedded polyimide (PI), which meet the above three design requirements. The Au NWs embedded PI MEs could build conformal contact with human skin and maintain electrical stability with minimal contact impedance by effectively penetrating the stratum corneum of the skin. In comparison studies, we found our MEs outperformed conventional gel or elastomeric soft electrodes. We further integrated the vertical Au-NW MEs into a wearable healthcare system and achieved wireless real-time recordings of electromyography (EMG) and electrocardiography (ECG) with high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) and low motion artifacts. Our fabrication strategy opens a new route to improve the durability and reliability of emerging nanomaterial-based soft bioelectrodes for long-term wearable healthcare applications.

Orbit symmetry breaking in MXene implements enhanced soft bioelectronic implants.

Bioelectronic implants featuring soft mechanics, excellent biocompatibility, and outstanding electrical performance hold promising potential to revolutionize implantable technology. These biomedical implants can record electrophysiological signals and execute direct therapeutic interventions within internal organs, offering transformative potential in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of various pathological conditions. However, challenges remain in improving excessive impedance at the bioelectronic-tissue interface and thus the efficacy of electrophysiological signaling and intervention. Here, we devise orbit symmetry breaking in MXene (a low-cost scalability, biocompatible, and conductive two dimensionally layered material, which we refer to as OBXene), which exhibits low bioelectronic-tissue impedance, originating from the out-of-plane charge transfer. Furthermore, the Schottky-induced piezoelectricity stemming from the asymmetric orbital configuration of OBXene facilitates interlayered charge transport in the device. We report an OBXene-based cardiac patch applied on the left ventricular epicardium of both rodent and porcine models to enable spatiotemporal epicardium mapping and pacing while coupling the wireless and battery-free operation for long-term real-time recording and closed-loop stimulation.

Information System for Data Collection on Building Tools and Materials Using the Rational Unified Process (RUP) Method

UD. FLORA records the re-inventory of building equipment that has been sold by reading the transactions one by one in the ledger. A proper way is needed to overcome the problems that occur. This research aims to create an information system software. In making information system software, a method is needed that can carry out the stages from initial design to implementation of the software. This research uses the Rational Unified Process (RUP) method, namely a software development approach that is carried out repeatedly (iterative), focuses on architecture (architecture-centered), is more directed based on use cases (use case driven). This research produces a tool data collection application at UD. FLORA using the RUP method. The existence of an information system for data collection on building equipment using the Rational Unified Process method means that UD. FLORA can be helped in managing building equipment data collection. The system enables real-time transaction recording, providing better insight into inventory status, and supporting more accurate decision-making.

Design of a Technology Verification Platform for Space Electromagnetic Interference Signal Testing and Analysis

This paper designs a space electromagnetic interference signal test and analysis technology verification platform. The article firstly introduces the general scheme of the technical verification platform and then describes each component unit of the hardware and the overall structure of the software in detail. The platform can achieve a 10 MHz ~ 50 GHz working frequency band, 1.2 GHz acquisition and real-time recording bandwidth, 6 GB/s recording rate, and 12 TB recording capacity.

Test Stand for Microjet Engine Prototypes

To investigate the functionality and performance of a prototype microjet engine, we constructed a versatile test stand tailored to the specifications of a 400 N prototype. This test stand facilitated a comprehensive study by enabling real-time recording of 45 essential parameters for analysis, encompassing temperatures, pressures, speed, fuel flow, thrust, vibration, and various other monitored metrics. All parameters and control elements were seamlessly integrated via a data acquisition and control system, utilizing a compactDAQ (Data Acquisition) system from National Instruments and a custom Virtual Instrument programmed with graphical language. The test stand offers both manual and automated operation modes, with the flexibility for hybrid operation. For instance, following the idle regime, manual control using a potentiometer can seamlessly transition from automated control via a proportional control (P control) mechanism. Before the experimental campaign, rigorous verification and validation tests were conducted to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the setup. The experimental campaign comprised a series of manual tests focusing on the fuel system and automated tests covering starting, idle, working, and stopping regimes. This structured approach allowed for a comprehensive evaluation across different operational scenarios, providing insights into the engine’s behavior and performance under varying conditions.

Novel arthrometer for quantitative clinical examination of the knee in three planes: Safety, reliability, minimum detectable changes, and side-to-side differences in healthy subjects

Physical examination of the knee joint is used to diagnose the type and severity of knee ligament injury; however, these exams are qualitative and subjective. To perform common physical examinations, we developed an arthrometer which quantitatively measures the load–displacement response in anterior-posterior (AP) translation, internal-external rotation (IER) and varus-valgus (VV) rotation. Here we describe safety, reliability, minimum detectable changes (MDCs), and absolute side-to-side differences in twenty young, healthy subjects (ten male, ten female, mean age: 28 ± 6 years). The arthrometer consists of an instrumented mechanical linkage, a force-moment sensor, and software for real-time visualization and recording of the load–displacement responses. During testing, the subject sits reclined in a chair with their knee fixed at 30° of flexion. Two examiners tested both knees of each subject twice to assess reliability via intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). All subjects completed the test protocol with minimal pain and stated that they would volunteer to be tested again. Each knee required on average five minutes to test. All intra-test reliabilities were excellent (≥0.91). Intra-examiner reliabilities ranged from good to excellent (0.62–0.89), and inter-examiner reliabilities were good to excellent (≥0.72). MDCs for repeat measures were ≤ 4.5 mm, 4.6°, and 2.3° for AP, IER, and VV, respectively. The absolute side-to-side differences for this cohort averaged 3.8 mm in AP, 5.5° in IER, and 2.2° in VV. Our arthrometer was safe, testing was time-efficient, and MDCs in our cohort of healthy subjects support utilization of this device for clinical research.

An integrated, automated and modular approach for real-time weather monitoring of surface meteorological variables and short-range forecasting using machine learning

Weather monitoring and forecasting plays a vital role in a great variety of human activities such as agriculture, transportation, and extreme weather phenomena. This study presents the first outcomes of the development of a fully automated system regarding the real-time recording of basic meteorological parameters and their short-range forecasting (nowcasting). The system itself is divided into five core components: a hardware system for monitoring atmospheric conditions (Commercial Off-The-Shelf structures), a system for storing and managing data, a module for distributing data to support applications, a machine learning algorithm for nowcasting, and a user-friendly interface, all made by modern tools and methods, described analytically. Finally, the nowcasting procedure along with the relative accuracy results, is presented. The nowcasting procedure is based on a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model scheme which is parametrized in such a way that reliable forecasts, up to 2 h ahead of time, can be provided.

Application of PDCA in improving hand hygiene compliance and nosocomial infection quality in orthopedics†

Abstract Objective To explore the effect of the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle on hand hygiene and nosocomial infection quality of orthopedic medical staff. Methods The whole year of 2021 was selected to monitor the quality of hand hygiene and hospitalization. Follow-up monitoring and real-time recording during the period of morning shift and medical operation concentration time, and compare the compliance of hand hygiene before and after implementation, and evaluate the quality of nosocomial infection. Results The hand hygiene compliance of doctors and nurses in stage P was 82%. The compliance of medical staff in stage D was 93%. The compliance of stage C was 94% and that of stage A was 95%. The quality score of hospital self-examination nosocomial infection was also significantly increased. Conclusions The PDCA management cycle can effectively improve the compliance of hand hygiene and the nosocomial infection quality, which is worthy of circulatory application in orthopedic nosocomial infection quality control, especially improving the quality of hand hygiene.

Carbon-based Wearable Pressure Sensor System for Real-time Step Frequency Monitoring

Abstract Wearable pressure sensors have attracted great attention in human motion and health monitoring due to their sensitivity, flexibility and portability that can provide continuous physiological information recording. However, current pressure sensors used for wearable motion monitoring suffer from low sensitivity, poor resistance to interference, and the inability to be mass-produced. In this study, we proposed the utilization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) as sensing materials, fabric as substrates, and screen printing process for fabricating flexible pressure sensors. The fabricated sensors exhibited a high sensitivity at low pressure, and good stability of more than 3000 cycles. Moreover, we designed a wearable step frequency monitoring system for real-time recording of footstep frequency during human walking activities. The results demonstrated that the system accurately monitors frequency under different walking speeds and footstep activities during various movements, providing a promising strategy to develop wearable and wireless sensing system for real-time motion monitoring.

Magnetic Porous Hydrogel-Enhanced Wearable Patch Sensor for Sweat Zinc Ion Monitoring.

Wearable sensors for sweat trace metal monitoring have the challenges of effective sweat collection and the real-time recording of detection signals. The existing detection technologies are implemented by generating enough sweat through exercise, which makes detecting trace metals in sweat cumbersome. Generally, it takes around 20 min to obtain enough sweat, resulting in dallied and prolonged detection signals that cannot reflect the endogenous fluctuations of the body. To solve these problems, we prepared a multifunctional hydrogel as an electrolyte and combined it with a flexible patch electrode to realize real-time monitoring of sweat Zn2+. Such hydrogel has magnetic and porous properties, and the porous structure of hydrogel enables a fast absorption of sweat, and the magnetic property of the addition of fabricated Fe3O4 NPs not only improves the conductivity but also ensures the adjustable internal structures of the hydrogel. Such a sensing platform for sweat Zn2+ monitoring shows a satisfied linear relationship in the concentration range of 0.16-16 µg/mL via differential pulsed anodic striping voltammetry (DPASV) and successfully detects the sweat Zn2+ of four volunteers during exercise and resting, displaying a promising path for commercial application.

Co-occurring autism, ADHD, and gender dysphoria in children, adolescents, and young adults with eating disorders: an examination of pre- vs. post-COVID pandemic outbreak trends with real-time electronic health record data.

Incidence rates of autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and gender dysphoria (GD) are rising not only in the general population, but particularly among children, adolescents, and young adults with eating disorders (EDs). While ED rates have risen during the COVID pandemic, trends in co-occurring autism, ADHD, and GD have yet to be investigated in detail or at scale by way of large electronic medical record data. To investigate trends in rates of co-occurring autism, ADHD, and GD among children, adolescents, and young adults with EDs in years prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic. We utilized a de-identified multinational electronic health records database (TriNetX) with 48,558 individuals aged 5-26 diagnosed with eating disorders (EDs) at least twice between 2017 and 2022. The primary predictor variable differentiated between the years of each person's index (first) ED diagnosis (2017-2019 vs. 2020-2022). The primary outcome variable was the rate of new co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses of autism, ADHD, and GD in the year following each patient's first ED diagnosis. We applied propensity score-matched multivariable logistic regressions to compare primary outcomes between 2017-2019 and 2020-2022. Our analysis included 17,445 individuals diagnosed with EDs in 2017-2019 (8% autism, 13.5% ADHD, 1.9% GD) and 31,113 diagnosed with EDs in 2020-2022 (8% autism, 14.6% ADHD, 3.2% GD). After 1:1 propensity score matching, 17,202 individuals from the 2017-2019 cohort were matched to peers mirroring the 2020-2022 cohort. Those diagnosed in 2020-2022 showed a 19% (aOR[95%CI]=1.19[1.07-1.33]), 25% (aOR=1.25[1.04-1.49]), and 36% (aOR=1.36[1.07-1.74]) increase in odds for autism, ADHD, and GD diagnoses, respectively, within the 365 days after the index EDs diagnosis, compared to the 2017-2019 cohort. Rates of autism, ADHD, and GD are significantly higher in individuals with ED in the post-pandemic 2020-2022 cohort in comparison to the pre-pandemic 2017-2019 cohort, even after controlling for baseline levels of co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses. Such findings reveal a critical gap in our current understanding of the totality of ways in which COVID-19 may have impacted the onset and clinical course of EDs, autism, ADHD, and GD among children, adolescents, and young adults.

Single-molecule sensing inside stereo- and regio-defined hetero-nanopores.

Heteromeric pore-forming proteins often contain recognition patterns or stereospecific selection filters. However, the construction of heteromeric pore-forming proteins for single-molecule sensing is challenging due to the uncontrollability of producing position isomers and difficulties in purification of regio-defined products. To overcome these preparation obstacles, we present an in situ strategy involving single-molecule chemical modification of a heptameric pore-forming protein to build a stereo- and regio-specific heteromeric nanopore (hetero-nanopore) with a subunit stoichiometric ratio of 3:4. The steric hindrance inherent in the homo-nanopore of K238C aerolysin directs the stereo- and regio-selective modification of maleimide derivatives. Our method utilizes real-time ionic current recording to facilitate controlled voltage manipulation for stoichiometric modification and position-based side-isomer removal. Single-molecule experiments and all-atom molecular dynamics simulations revealed that the hetero-nanopore features an asymmetric stereo- and regio-defined residue structure. The hetero-nanopore produced was characterized by mass spectrometry and single-particle cryogenic electron microscopy. In a proof-of-concept single-molecule sensing experiment, the hetero-nanopore exhibited 95% accuracy for label-free discrimination of four peptide stereoisomers with single-amino-acid structural and chiral differences in the mixtures. The customized hetero-nanopores could advance single-molecule sensing.

Benzodiazepine use for anxiety disorders is associated with increased long-term risk of mood and substance use disorders: A large-scale retrospective cohort study

BackgroundBenzodiazepines (BZDs) are widely prescribed for anxiety disorders. However, the long-term implications on mental health remain uncertain, especially the potential association between chronic BZD use and subsequent diagnosis of mood and substance use disorders (SUDs). MethodWe conducted a 5-year retrospective cohort study by analyzing the TriNetX database, a real-time electronic medical record network. The study population was defined as patients aged 18–65 with anxiety disorders (ICD-10-CM: F40-F48). We employed propensity score matching to pair a BZD-exposed cohort (≥12 BZD prescriptions) with a BZD-unexposed control cohort. The outcomes were defined as depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, and SUDs. We employed Kaplan-Meier analyses to assess the survival probability over five years following diagnosis and BZD exposure; log-rank test to obtain the hazard ratio (HR) with 95 % confidence interval (CI). ResultsWe identified and matched 76,137 patients in the study and control cohorts. Compared to the control cohort, the BZD-exposed group exhibited significantly higher risks of being diagnosed with depressive disorders (HR, 2.64; 95 % CI, 2.59–2.68), bipolar disorders (HR, 4.39; 95 % CI, 4.15–4.64), overall substance use disorders (HR, 3.00; 95 % CI, 2.92–3.08), alcohol use disorder (HR, 3.38; 95 % CI, 3.20–3.57), stimulant use disorder (HR, 3.24; 95 % CI, 2.95, 3.55), cannabis use disorder (HR, 2.93; 95 % CI, 2.75–3.11), inhalant use disorder (HR, 4.14; 95 % CI, 3.38–5.06), and nicotine use disorder (HR, 2.72; 95 % CI, 2.63–2.81). ConclusionOur findings demonstrate a concerning association between BZD use and an increased risk of being diagnosed with various mood disorders and SUDs.

A porous elastomer with a cavity array for three-dimensional plantar force sensing

Human gait is an important indicator for diagnosis of various movement-related disorders. Three-dimensional (3D) plantar force monitoring enables real-time recording of contact forces in both the normal and tangential directions in each step, providing useful clues for identification of irregular gait patterns or gait-related health issues. Most flexible sensors for gait monitoring focus on contact forces in the normal direction, being limited to detect forces in the tangential direction. Herein we have developed a porous elastomer with a cavity array (PECA) to measure 3D contact forces for gait analysis. The sensor consists of two fabric electrodes and a dielectric layer of porous Ecoflex elastomer containing a 5 × 5 cavity array, forming four parallel-plate capacitor units in a soft construction. Therefore, a 3D force in any arbitrary direction generates four unique capacitive electrical signals. Importantly, the PECA includes a well-designed combination of micrometer-scale pores and millimeter-sized cavities, dramatically improving the detection sensitivity and linear elasticity range. We have demonstrated high sensitivities of 0.41 N−1 and 0.23 N−1 in the normal and tangential directions, respectively. The flexible PECA-based sensors have been tested to sensitively distinguish various standing postures and different stride lengths for gait analysis, promising reliable translation into areas such as healthcare monitoring, sports training, and rehabilitation engineering.

Flexible and multi-functional three-dimensional scaffold based on enokitake-like Au nanowires for real-time monitoring of endothelial mechanotransduction

Endothelial cells are sensitive to mechanical force and can convert it into biochemical signals to trigger mechano-chemo-transduction. Although conventional techniques have been used to investigate the subsequent modifications of cellular expression after mechanical stimulation, the in situ and real-time acquiring the transient biochemical information during mechanotransduction process remains an enormous challenge. In this work, we develop a flexible and multi-functional three-dimensional conductive scaffold that integrates cell growth, mechanical stimulation, and electrochemical sensing by in situ growth of enokitake-like Au nanowires on a three-dimensional porous polydimethylsiloxane substrate. The conductive scaffold possesses stable and desirable electrochemical sensing performance toward nitric oxide under mechanical deformation. The prepared e-AuNWs/CC/PDMS scaffold exhibits a good electrocatalytic ability to NO with a linear range from 2.5 nM to 13.95 μM and a detection limit of 8 nM. Owing to the excellent cellular compatibility, endothelial cells can be cultured directly on the scaffold and the real-time inducing and recording of nitric oxide secretion under physiological and pathological conditions were achieved. This work renders a reliable sensing platform for real-time monitoring cytomechanical signaling during endothelial mechanotransduction and is expected to promote other related biological investigations based on three-dimensional cell culture.

The Evolution of Cultural Relics: Environmental Sculpture of Huai'an in Metaverse

In recent years, with the rapid development of digital technology, cultural have gradually introduced the concept of digital system. Taking the environmental sculpture of Huai'an city as an example, this paper discusses the application of the meta-cosmic digital system in the cultural relics records, and analyzes the significance of this technology for transnational exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations. Through the in-depth study of the management of Huaian environmental sculpture, this paper finds that the digital system of the universe can also realize the real-time recording, virtual display and global sharing of cultural relics, thus providing a new way and method for the protection and inheritance of cultural relics. At the same time, the use of metaso digital system can also promote the innovation and artistic exchange of urban sculpture, and promote the process of mutual learning among civilizations. Therefore, the application of metaso digital system in cultural records has great theoretical and practical significance.

Scalable and adaptable tactile sensor array with island-bridge-form sensing units for multi-directional stimuli recognition

Multiple mechanical stimuli recognition ability with direction discrimination function is of importance for a tactile sensor. However, typical multi-directional tactile sensor needs complex analysis to classify ambiguous output signals because of the nonspecific response. Besides, conventional sensor array layout with separate output ports for each sensor unit limits the integration and adaptability of the sensor system. This work proposes a novel sensor array configuration with island-bridge-form sensing units to isolate pressure and shear loading. Meanwhile, the reasonable integration scheme with specially-designed circuit effectively reduces the total output ports and data acquisition cost, capable of scaling up the sensor array according to application scenarios easily. A series of experiments and analysis from the characterization of sensing units to real-time recording of multiple mechanical stimuli are conducted, showing the independent, timely and high-sensitivity response of the tactile sensor array, exhibiting the application potential in human–machine interaction, wearable electronics and soft robotics.

Opioid prescribing requirements to minimize unused medications after an emergency department visit for acute pain: a prospective cohort study.

Unused opioid prescriptions can be a driver of opioid misuse. Our objective was to determine the optimal quantity of opioids to prescribe to patients with acute pain at emergency department discharge, in order to meet their analgesic needs while limiting the amount of unused opioids. In a prospective, multicentre cohort study, we included consecutive patients aged 18 years and older with an acute pain condition present for less than 2 weeks who were discharged from emergency department with an opioid prescription. Participants completed a pain medication diary for real-time recording of quantity, doses, and names of all analgesics consumed during a 14-day follow-up period. We included 2240 participants, who had a mean age of 51 years; 48% were female. Over 14 days, participants consumed a median of 5 (quartiles, 1-14) morphine 5 mg tablet equivalents, with significant variation across pain conditions (p < 0.001). Most opioid tablets prescribed (63%) were unused. To meet the opioid need of 80% of patients for 2 weeks, we found that those experiencing renal colic or abdominal pain required fewer opioid tablets (8 morphine 5 mg tablet equivalents) than patients who had fractures (24 tablets), back pain (21 tablets), neck pain (17 tablets), or other musculoskeletal pain (16 tablets). Two-thirds of opioid tablets prescribed at emergency department discharge for acute pain were unused, whereas opioid requirements varied significantly based on the cause of acute pain. Smaller, cause-specific opioid prescriptions could provide adequate pain management while reducing the risk of opioid misuse. ClinicalTrials.gov, no. NCT03953534.

A Narrowband IoT Personal Sensor for Long-Term Heart Rate Monitoring and Atrial Fibrillation Detection.

Long-term patient monitoring is required for detection of episodes of atrial fibrillation, one of the most widespread cardiac pathologies. Today, the most used non-invasive technique is Holter electrocardiographic (ECG) monitoring, which can often prove ineffective because of the short duration of recordings (e.g., one day). Other techniques such as photo-plethysmography are adopted by smartwatches for much longer duration monitoring, but this has the disadvantage of offering only intermittent measurements. This study proposes an Internet of Things (IoT) sensor that can provide a very long period of continuous monitoring. The sensor consists of an ECG-integrated Analog Front End (MAX30003), a microcontroller (STM32F401RE), and an IoT narrowband module (STEVAL-STMODLTE). The instantaneous heart rate is extracted from the ECG recording in real time. At intervals of two minutes, the sequence of inter-beat intervals is transmitted to an IoT cloud platform (ThingSpeak). Settled atrial fibrillation event recognition software runs on the cloud and generates alerts when it recognizes such arrhythmia. Performances of the proposed sensor were evaluated by generating analog ECG signals from a public dataset of ECG signals with atrial fibrillation episodes, the MIT-BIH Atrial Fibrillation Database, each recording lasting approximately 10 h. Software implementing the Lorentz algorithm, one of the best detectors of atrial fibrillation, was implemented on the cloud platform. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity in recognizing atrial fibrillation episodes of the proposed system was calculated by comparison with a cardiologist's reference data. Across all patients, the proposed method achieved an accuracy of 0.88, a sensitivity 0.71, and a specificity 0.99. The results obtained suggest that the developed system can continuously record and transmit heart rhythms effectively and efficiently and, in addition, offers considerable performance in recognizing atrial fibrillation episodes in real time.
