A Real Time Quality Monitoring System for Engineering Industry: A Practical and Rapid Approach Using Embedded Vision System with LabVIEW

With increased expectations for engineering products of high quality and safety standards, the need for accurate, fast and objective quality determination of these characteristics in engineering products continues to grow. Embedded vision provides one alternative for an automated, non-destructive, fast and cost-effective technique to accomplish these requirements. In this work, the authors are developed an integrated system which has two major components: an Embedded Vision System (EVS) and a Real Time Monitoring System (RTMS). This work describes design and development of prototyped Production Line System (PLS) based on a practical and fast approach using EVS and LabVIEW with IMAQ Vision Assistant as image processing tool. Experimental results show that this integrated system is faster and produces a lower error rate than humans produce in the quality inspection process.

Development and Application of Real-Time Quality Monitoring System of Hot Mixed Asphalt Mixture

As the stability of quality of hot mixed asphalt mixture (including gradation, asphalt aggregate ratio, temperature, etc) is the premise of good pavement performance of asphalt pavement, it is regarded the key of ensuring service life and pavement performance of road to ensure the quality of hot mixed asphalt mixture. This research is oriented at developing real-time quality control & monitoring system of asphalt mixture further on the basis of the established quality control system of mixing plant. The functions and operating principles of the system are introduced in this article.

Compaction Quality Control of Earth-Rock Dam Construction Using Real-Time Field Operation Data

AbstractCompaction quality is critical to the stability and durability of earth-rock dams. The traditional quality inspection method relies primarily on testing randomly sampled spots of a job site, which may cause unreliable representation of the compaction quality of the entire work and lead to delays not only in performing the construction work but also in identifying and rectifying quality issues. In this paper, a quality-inspection process is developed that monitors compaction operations of earth-rock dam construction in real time and establishes a multiple regression model to predict compaction quality by using independent variable data obtained from the real-time quality-monitoring system. These independent variables include compaction operation parameters (i.e., compaction passes, roller velocity, vibration status, and pavement thickness) and earth-rock aggregate’s moisture content and gradation. A Real Time Quality Monitoring System for the Lighting Industry: A Practical and Rapid Approach Using Computer Vision and Image Processing (CVIP) Tools

In China, the manufacturing of lighting products is very labour intensive. The approach used to check quality and control production relies on operators who test using various types of fixtures. In order to increase the competitiveness of the manufacturer and the efficiency of production, the authors propose an integrated system. This system has two major elements: a computer vision system (CVS) and a real-time monitoring system (RTMS). This model focuses not only on the rapid and practical application of modern technology to a traditional industry, but also represents a process innovation in the lighting industry. This paper describes the design and development of the prototyped lighting inspection system based on a practical and fast approach using computer vision and imaging processing (CVIP) tools. LabVIEW with IMAQ Vision Builder is the chosen tool for building the CVS. Experimental results show that this system produces a lower error rate than humans produce in the quality checking process. The whole integrated manufacturing strategy, aimed at achieving a better performance, is most suitable for a China and other labour intensive environments such as India.
