Fluoroform (CF3H), a large-volume industrial by-product and potent greenhouse gas, has emerged as an attractive CF3 source for the development of trifluoromethylation reagents and reactions. This article highlights the recent reports since 2017 on the use of fluoroform in organic synthesis. Topics include direct trifluoromethylation facilitated by organic and inorganic bases, preparation of trifluoromethylation reagents based on transition metals and borazine, and radiolabelled fluoroform.
