IT'S Never Too Late to Dare: Outdoor Adventure Programming for the Age Wave

The retirement of the baby-boom generation will bring many new clients to traditional recreation programs for older adults. Expanding outdoor adventure recreation to include older adults will help to serve this population.

Adapted Physical Education and Therapeutic Recreation in Schools

Adapted physical education is a mandated service, whereas therapeutic recreation and traditional recreation are considered related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. In this article, the authors describe the distinctions between the services, recognition of need for referral, methods of assessment, sample Individualized Education Program goals with short-term objectives and/or benchmarks, strategies for the classroom teachers, and interventions and service delivery models typically used by physical education teachers and recreational therapists.

The value of changes in deer season length: an application of the nested multinomial logit model.

Increasing deer populations can be controlled through manipulatingharvest limits or season length. While such actions often result in benefitsto hunters, both motorists and the agricultural sector also benefit as alower deer population leads to fewer incidences of harmful human-deerencounters. Traditional recreation demand models are often employed toexamine the welfare implications of changes in daily hunting bag limits.Studies measuring the effects of changes in season length, however, arenoticeably absent from the literature. This study uses a nested randomutility model to examine hunter choice over site and season selection toderive the values of changes in season length.

Historical Studies on the parks Founded by DAJOKAN'S Decree

The development of municipal parks in Japan commenced in 1873, when the Decree of DajOkan (the Central Government) for establishing parks as recreational place was published. It can be easily imaged that the new government was terribly rushed with a great many difficulties both in domestic and diplomatic fields and could not afford to be deeply concerned in such a “trivial” matter as recreaton for people. Consequently, it is natural to recognize some alien influences, direct or indirect, upon the preparation of the said Decree.The Decree called forth echoes all over the country and numerous parks were born in a mere ten years. Most of them, however, were based on traditional recreation places having scenic deauty and on grounds of shrines and temples or changed from castle sites. And there were some cases that could not obtain wide favor among people owing to being far from the urban area.
