Plantlet formation through organogenesis from callus cultures of the important rattan (cane) species Calamus flagellum is described. Shoot apical meristem explants produced callus on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing 9.05 μM 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and shoots differentiated optimally, from callus, on MS medium containing 8.88 μM 6-benzyladenine and 5.36 μM α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). Regenerated shoots were rooted on MS medium with 0.53 μM NAA. Regeneration of plantlets from shoot meristems via primary callus production and a two-step organogenesis process, required 18 weeks.
