Omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 are unsaturated fatty acids which commonly found in vegetable oil. They are interested for healthy food consumption, preventing atherosclerosis, heart attack and other diseases. Batchwise process of hydrolysis using catalyst was conducted to prepare fatty acid from corn oil. Multistage hydrolysis at low temperature was needed to obtain the acids on high conversion without decomposition. It was an explorative research, which purposed to determine the effect of solven for separating fatty acids, and the number of stages for reaction conversion. The oil hydrolyzed with 1% w /w Hydrochloric as catalyst, 1/1 and 1/3 volume ratio of oil and water. One stage for oil hydrolysis was kept on 3-4 hours. Each stage was analyzed to determine the triglycerides conversion. The process was supposed to be finished when it reached maximum conversion. Then fatty acids separated from glycerol by settling, and processed for the next stage with the same condition. Short chain alcohol was suitable for separating fatty acids from corn oil relatively. More stages gave higher reactionconversion.
