The annual dose limits recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection do not apply to dose contributions from natural radiation. However, since radon in dwellings has been identified as a substantial source of human exposure, the Commission is looking into possible control policies. Some of the related problems are discussed. For comparison, the development in Sweden is described. There, a control programme has been tested for some years in practical application.
