Rapid growth in the telecommunication industry has placed wireless technology at the frontier for both consumer and commercial applications. Recently, interest in Gb/s throughput has focused attention on unlicensed millimeter (mm)-wave opportunities such as the 24.1-24.2-, 28-, 38-, and 57-64-GHz bands. Here, we present the first investigation of real-time, 24-GHz, GbE, wireless data communication in non-line-of-sight (NLOS) and multipath-rich scenarios. Our results show that wireless systems deployed in this band can deliver up to 1.25-Gb/s aggregate data rates in typical modern building environments while penetrating a range of commonly used construction materials. Channel modeling using MATLAB simulation for the prediction of radio propagation loss along the corridors was performed. Comparison of the simulation model and the experimental results showed good agreement. © 2014 IEEE.
