Shampoos are one of the cosmetic products used in daily life. Synthetic preservatives and detergents have sometimes been the cause of adverse effects among consumers. A more radical approach in reducing the synthetic ingredients is by incorporating natural extract whose functionality is comparable with their synthetic ingredients.this herbal shampoo was formulated using natural ingredient like Fenugreek seeds), Acacia concinna (shikakai), Sapindus mukorossi (reetha), Ocimum sanctum (tulsi), Aloe vera (aloe), Hibiscus rosa sinensis (china rose), Azadirachta indica (Neem), Lawsonia inermis (henna),Citrus lemon (lemon), with proven efficacy of hair care preparation is prepared. The combination of several such ingredient of herbal origin has made it possible to secure highly effective dry powder shampoo. The formulation at laboratory scale was done and evaluated for number of parameters to ensure its safety and efficacy.The main obeject of this present study is to prepare and evaluate an herbal shampoo and determine physiochemical function that emphasizes on safety.which is use to remove grease, dirt, dandruff..

What would environmental impact assessment look like if we started from scratch today? Designing better EIA for developed neoliberal nations

ABSTRACT After more than five decades of practice, environmental impact assessment (EIA) has failed to convince sceptics that it represents value for money. It increasingly overlaps with constantly emerging sustainability requirements. The completed assessments are extremely long, exceed the cognitive capacities of decision makers to assimilate information, cannot address motivated reasoning, and therefore inevitably lead to trade-offs that threaten the very environmental components EIA was designed to protect. In this paper, for the minority of nations with highly developed existing environmental legislation and management only, we propose three radical approaches that include: (1) the adoption of ‘satisficing’, to deliver a streamlined assessment that is good enough; underpinned by (2) better application of ‘acceptable harmrules’ embedded in existing environmental legislation in many jurisdictions to prevent significant harm to environmental media; and (3) an ‘externalities charge’ on developers (irrespective of whether EIA is required) to force more aggressive scoping through market incentives and to fund a shift towards adaptive environmental assessment and management that manages environmental outcomes. Better environmental protections could be delivered using a far more streamlined EIA process, associated with the creation and maintenance of more accurate and comprehensive datasets that can provide better evidence for emerging artificial intelligence tools.

A photocatalytic C(sp)ꟷB bond formation employing SOMOphilic alkynyl sulfones and nucleophilic boryl radicals

Alkynylboron compounds are important scaffolds with broad applicability in Organic Synthesis. In contrast to polar or metal-catalyzed processes, here we employ a radical approach for the addition of nucleophilic boryl radicals to electrophilic SOMOphiles for the construction of the C(sp)ꟷB bond. The reaction renders the corresponding alkynylated amine boranes with broad functional group compatibility. In addition, we carried out theoretical studies by means of DFT to understand the reactivity and selectivity of the addition process.

Copper-Catalyzed Asymmetric Radical Oxysulfonylation of 2-Vinylbenzoic Acids to Access Chiral Sulfonyl Phthalides.

This study presents the development of a radical enantioselective alkene oxysulfonylation approach for the synthesis of enantioenriched sulfonyl phthalides via a catalyst system consisting of a copper salt and an OPPA ligand. The reaction proceeded under mild conditions with a wide range of substrates, good yields, and excellent enantioselectivities. Mechanistic studies suggested that the reaction proceeded through a radical-mediated process. Scalable synthesis and transformation experiments also demonstrated the applicable potential of this method.

Photocatalyst‐Free Chiral Phosphoric Acid‐Catalyzed Enantioselective Minisci‐Type Alkylation of N‐Heteroarenes

AbstractIn this study, we present an efficient radical approach for the enantioselective Minisci‐type alkylation of N‐heteroarenes, using chiral phosphoric acid (CPA) as a catalyst under mild conditions, without the need for metals, photocatalysts, and other additives. Prochiral α‐aminoalkyl radicals generated from RAEs were successfully introduced to N‐heteroarene derivatives, including pyridine, quinoline, and isoquinoline, resulting in a range of valuable chiral alkylated N‐heteroarenes with secondary amines in high yields and good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98 % ee). The chiral phosphoric acid catalyst not only activates the substrate and induces asymmetry but also facilitates essential electron transfer processes.

Azole Derivatives: Cutting‐Edge Agents in Cancer Therapy

AbstractMonocyclic 5‐membered heterocycles including imidazoles, thiazoles, oxazoles, and their related compounds have gained significant attention in medicinal chemistry because of their potent anticancerous activity. These small heterocyclic molecules possess versatile properties, including biological activity, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and chemical diversity that give them immense potential as anticancer agents. It is also a fact that inherent characteristic of azoles to combine with many biological molecules through hydrogen bond, stacking, and hydrophobic interaction makes them effective against almost all cancer types. In the present paper the author discusses the way which is connected with chemical structure of monocyclic azoles and their anticancer activity namely the ability of these compounds to intercalate with DNA, to inhibit some enzymes and to interfere cellular signaling pathways. Interestingly, several azole derivatives have been seen to be effective in preclinical efficacy studies as well as in clinical trials and are considered to be potent in overcoming the problem of resistance and side effects of the common anticancer agents. As the synthetic chemistry progresses, the structural system of the azoles has diversified and development in the pharmacology has become more specific. This has helped in enhancing the formation of new molecules in the azole class with improved selectivity and efficacy. Furthermore, the comprehensive review explains how computational chemistry and structure‐activity relationship (SAR) approaches are applied to the design of future‐generation azole compounds. In light of these facts, this article is designed to give a broad overview of the current state of monocyclic azole‐based anticancer agents in an attempt to further assert its therapeutic promise and spur further attempts at infusing the said agents into the cancer therapeutics fray. The discoveries made in this study may allow the development the radical different therapeutic approaches, which could lead to improved and targeted treatment of cancer.

The ingredients used in formulation of Herbal Shampoo are Ficus Religiosa leaves (Powder), Hibiscus Leaves (Powder), Reetha (Powder), Shikakai (Powder), Aloevera, then prepared by mixing with each other and evaluated for its organoleptic and physio-chemical characteristics and performance tests in terms of wetting time test, pH, solid contents, surface tension, dirt dispersion, foam Stability, and Viscosity was performed. The combination of several such ingredient of herbal origin has made it possible to secure highly effective dry powder shampoo. The formulation at laboratory scale was done and evaluated for number of parameters to ensure its safety and efficacy The Formulated Herbal Shampoo was clear and good appealing. It demonstrated good froth stability, detergency, good cleansing, small bubble size, low surface strain, and execution of good conditioning property. The physicochemical evaluation of the formulated shampoo showed ideal results. However, to improve its quality, product performance, and safety, further development was required.

Scalable membrane-assisted ion exchange (MEM-IE) strategy for organic acid purification in biorefinery process

The transition towards a carbon-neutral society necessitates radical approaches in the bio-refinery pipeline, particularly in the production of organic acids. The current downstream process from a dilute fermentation broth is limited by the extensive use of acids and bases, along with heavy reliance on energy-intensive distillation. In this work, we propose an entirely membrane-based process to purify organic acids (e.g., gluconic acid) from a crude solution of catalytic dehydrogenation of glucose. To facilitate downstream purification, we introduce an innovative membrane-assisted ion exchange (MEM-IE) strategy, which is a scalable process that can protonate ionic compounds entirely in the solution phase. Instead of a solid ion exchange resin, a bulky yet soluble acidification agent is used to protonate the target compound, which can be easily separated via a size exclusion membrane. We selected non-toxic poly (4-styrene sulfonic acid) (H-PSS, 75 kDa) as the acidification agent to selectively protonate gluconate ions and to enable facile fractionation. The proposed MEM-IE strategy can overcome the scale-up limitation of traditional solid ion exchange resins and can be applied to many types of ionic compounds. The versatility of the proposed process was also demonstrated on formate and lactate compounds. A techno-economic evaluation using the Verberne cost model showed that the proposed process achieves an 80 % reduction in energy consumption compared to the fermentation-based process, and the return on investment (ROI) of a 330 ton-per-day plant was less than a year. The proposed membrane-based process for the purification of organic acids, particularly the MEM-IE strategy, offers a sustainable and energy-efficient downstream separation platform.

Radiation-Induced Breast Angiosarcoma-A Single-Institution Experience.

Introduction: Radiation-induced breast angiosarcoma (RIBAS) is a rare adverse event associated with postoperative breast irradiation. The data from the literature indicate that RIBAS occurs in less than 0.3% of patients treated with adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer. Given the rarity, diverse clinical presentation, poor prognosis, and lack of consensus on the management, this study aimed to present experiences of our specialized cancer center with RIBAS, in terms of the incidence, presentation, management, and outcomes. Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 10,834 breast cancer patients treated at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia between January 2013 and June 2024 to detect patients that had breast-conserving surgery, followed by postoperative irradiation, and developed angiosarcoma in the irradiated area at least 3 years after radiotherapy, without distant metastases. The incidence, latency period, management, and treatment outcomes were analyzed. Results: A total of nine female patients with RIBAS were identified and included in this study. The median age at RIBAS diagnosis was 64 years (range: 36-68), with a median latency of 64 months (95% CI > 57) from irradiation to diagnosis. The mean tumor size was 55 mm (SD 32.78). Patients were followed for a median of 30 months (range: 7-40) after initial RIBAS surgery. Local recurrence occurred in seven patients (77.8%), with five undergoing re-do surgery with curative intent. Three patients developed distant metastases during follow-up. The median overall survival (OS) was 31 months (95% CI > 30), with a 3-year survival rate of 15.2% (95% CI 2.5-91.6%). The median local recurrence-free interval was 10 months (95% CI > 3). Median OS after RIBAS local recurrence and after breast cancer treatment was 17 months (95% CI > 15) and 108 months (95% CI > 88), respectively. Conclusions: RIBAS is a rare but increasingly prevalent adverse event associated with BC irradiation, marked by an aggressive disease course and high relapse rates. Awareness, prompt diagnosis, and a radical surgical approach with wide clear margins are critical for improving patients' outcomes.

Photogeneration of β-Borylsilyl Radical via Decarboxylation of N-Hydroxyphthalimide Esters.

Gem-borylsilylalkanes are versatile intermediates in organic synthesis, and the traditional synthesis methods have mainly focused on metal reagents, the insertion reactions of diazo compounds, and hydrosilylation/hydroborylation reactions of unsaturated bonds. Herein, a novel, efficient gem-borylsilylalkanes synthesis via a radical approach is reported. This method introduced a β-gem-borylsilyl NHPI ester as the precursor of the β-borylsilyl radical that, coupling with radical acceptors under photo conditions, and the corresponding gem-borylsilylalkanes bearing unsaturated bonds, facilitate subsequent transformations.

This trend underscores the importance of having a mobile-friendly online presence for entrepreneurs to effectively reach their target audience. E-commerce is a tool through which firms can attain competitive advantage. Therefore it is interesting to further explore how firms exactly go about implementing e-commerce systems, and which path firms take from e-commerce idea generation up to realization of e-commerce success.To comprehensively understand the impact of e-commerce on small businesses, it is crucial to conduct a multiple case studies analysis using a qualitative research design. Small businesses experience challenges before, when, and after integrating e-commerce into their operational structures internally and externally, such as perceiving the technology as an unnecessary business cost, lack of resources to fund e-commerce infrastructure, and absence of managerial support to adopting a radical approach to innovation and growth of the business. The analysis of the impacts of e-commerce on small businesses helps to determine the opportunities and challenges in the business operation process.

Towards the Integration of Ethico-Socio-Scientific Issues in Science Teaching in South Africa: A Conceptual Analysis

AbstractScience teaching and learning is facing a new dilemma. It has to move from its old perception of science as a purely positivistic and value-free enterprise into regarding it as what it really is: a value-laden human endeavour characterised by historical, cultural, social and political parameters. Science teachers now have to deal with ethical, and social issues encountered in their teaching of science. In essence school science has moved from its conventional form of being a pure science to more of a social subject that has to talk about day to day social and ethical issues. This conceptual paper explores the problems that science teachers face in their teaching. The paper goes further to suggest radical approaches that teachers may use to teach these issues successfully. The incorporation of radical approaches is relevant in order to address this issue which has the potential to adversely affect the teaching and learning of science. Relevant examples from the South African context are cited throughout the paper.

Photoinduced Radical Approach for Desulfurative Alkylation of Cysteine Derivatives to Make Unnatural Amino Acids.

Unnatural amino acids (UAAs) are highly valuable molecules in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical sciences, and material science. Herein, we present a photocatalytic radical approach for desulfurative alkylation of cysteine derivatives with arenethiol as the hydrogen atom transfer catalyst for making UAAs and peptides. The formate salt, acting as the hydrogen atom donor, in situ generates the highly reductive CO2 radical anion species, which is the key to unlocking the C-S bond cleavage process with a simple benzoyl protecting group. No photocatalyst is required for the radical initiation and propagation, which makes such a visible-light-induced process mild, efficient, and sustainable.

Integrating Process Re-Engineering Models in Cement Production to Improve Energy Efficiency

The demand for cement has significantly increased, growing by 8% in the year 2022 and by a further 12% in 2023. It is highly anticipated that this trend will continue, and it will result in significant growth by 2030. However, cement production is highly energy-intensive, with 70 to 80% of the total energy consumed during the clinker formation, which is the main cement production process. Minimising energy losses requires a radical approach that includes optimising the performance of the kilns and significantly improving their energy efficiency. One of the most efficient approaches to optimise the performance of the kilns and reduce energy losses is by integrating process re-engineering models, which leverage process data analytics, machine learning, and computational methods. This study employed a model-based integration approach to improve energy efficiency during clinker formation. Energy consumption data were collected from two semi-automated cement production plants. The data were analysed using a regression model in Minitab (Minitab 21.1.0) statistical software. The analysis resulted in a linear energy consumption equation that links energy consumption to both production and energy loss. Dynamic simulations and modelling using Simulink in MATLAB were performed based on a proportional–integral–derivative (PID)-controlled system. The dynamic behaviour of the model was evaluated using data from Plant A and validated with data from Plant B. The energy efficiency equation was established as a mathematical model that explains energy improvements based on incorporating parameters for the cement kiln system and disturbances from the environment.

Safety-driven radical approaches in routine thyroid surgery: roles and challenges

Bevezetés: Pajzsmirigyműtét kapcsán olyan sebészi megoldásra kell törekednünk, amely egyszerűvé és hatásossá teszi a hormonpótlást, és megelőzi a kiújulást. Ennek a leginkább az elvi lobectomia felel meg. Célkitűzés: Kísérletet teszünk a biztonságos radikalitás kritériumainak és műtéttechnikai aspektusainak meghatározására. Anyag és módszer: 2001 és 2023 között 2215 pajzsmirigyműtétet végeztünk, melyek közül 86,1% uni- vagy bilateralis lobectomia, 12,3% közel totalis resectio volt. Substernalis megjelenéssel 28,9%-ban, míg recidív elváltozással 5,3%-ban találkoztunk. Partialis sternotomiára 1,8%-ban volt szükség. Eredmények: Az operált 2215 pajzsmirigy-elváltozás 27,9%-a daganat, 19,6%-a hyperplasia, míg 18,1%-a gyulladás volt. A 216 papillaris carcinoma patológiai jellemzői közül az okkult forma (42,1%), az enkapszulált megjelenés (30,1%), a többgócúság (26,4%), a kétoldali megjelenés (12,5%) és a kevert jelleg (8,3%) érdemes kiemelésre. A centrális régió 41%-ban tartalmazott pozitív nyirokcsomót. A daganatokban szignifikánsan gyakoribb volt az egyidejű Hashimoto-típusú gyulladás, mint a hyperplasia. Átmeneti nervus recurrens bénulás 3,3%-ban, míg definitív 0,49%-ban fordult elő. Megbeszélés: A radikalitást a lehető legkisebb reziduális állomány elérése, míg a biztonságot az idegek és a mellékpajzsmirigyek funkciójának megőrzése jelenti. Ezt a két célt egyformán veszélyeztető tényezők: az állományban zajló gyulladás, daganat, substernalis elhelyezkedés, recidíva és a fel nem ismert centrális paratrachealis nyirokcsomóáttét. A rutinszerű idegpreparálással egybekötött thyreoidectomia eredményeit elemezve, csak a recidív elváltozások esetében volt szignifikánsan nagyobb a kiújult bénulások száma. Következtetés: A vérmentes műtéti terület biztosítása, az idegek preparálás alatti hűtése, a felső pólus ereinek ágankénti ellátása, illetve a nem gyulladásos szövetű pajzsmirigyek eltávolítása során szerzett preparatív gyakorlat segíti a biztonságos radikalitást nemcsak a daganatok, de a hyperplasia, gyulladás, sőt recidíva miatt végzett thyreoidectomia során is. ‘My enemy’s enemy is my friend’? European radical left parties’ response to Russia’s war in Ukraine

The 2022 Russian (re)invasion of Ukraine highlights the need to understand better how European parties react towards aggressions by anti-liberal authoritarian states. In this article, we focus on the still relatively understudied yet crucial case of the radical left. Since our initial quantitative overview shows that there is no united front on positions of radical left parties towards Russia’s actions, we argue for the necessity of a deeper analysis of radical left strategies. A similar empirical analysis, however, is lacking. To fill this gap, we provide a qualitative content analysis of the reactions to Russia’s 2022 aggression on Ukraine from different ideological sub-types of radical left parties from the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Poland and Portugal. We conclude that there is a clear heterogeneity in the way the radical left approaches the invasion of Ukraine, which, albeit not perfectly, corresponds with ideological and strategic sub-types within the party family. Therefore, it makes little sense to regard the party family as a whole as ‘pro-Russian’. The findings invite further comparative studies on varying reactions to Russia’s aggressions within and across particular party families.

Exploring Product Design Innovation through Repair Techniques: Insights from Knowledge and Experience

Repair has been a longstanding activity in human society. However, in modern times, the production strategy of “planned obsolescence” has led to a decline in product quality and lifespan, resulting in closed and non-repairable products. Additionally, advertising manipulates consumers' desires, leading them to prefer replacing old items with new ones rather than repairing them. This has resulted in issues such as overconsumption, massive waste, and recycling challenges. Nevertheless, many DIY repair enthusiasts promote repair activities through communities and online media, highlighting the joy and creativity of repair. This unique relationship of care between people and objects extends the life of products and alters their original appearance and function, creating new possibilities to meet consumers’ needs. This study analyzes actual cases to explore how DIY repairers innovate during the repair process, reinterpret old items, and elucidate the interaction between people and objects. Furthermore, it argues that repair activities represent a radical approach to mitigating waste and are crucial for advancing sustainable development.

Was Margaret Thatcher a conservative? Thatcherism and society

ABSTRACT There is a long-lasting political debate on Thatcher’s ideological affiliations. Was Thatcherism more connected to conservative or old (neo)liberal ideas? While some commentators have highlighted Thatcher’s individualism, free-market ideas and radicalism as proof that her ideology was undoubtedly neoliberal, others have emphasized her moral and authoritarian views as typically conservative. The present article analyses Thatcherite views on human nature, civil society institutions and tradition, as well as radical Thatcherite approaches to traditional British institutions. Through a qualitative approach that focuses on Thatcher’s speeches and interviews but which also pays attention to the material produced by her allies, and governmental plans and policies, the article concludes that while Thatcherism resonated with new and old conservative arguments on these issues and held a broad conservative worldview, it also followed a rare but not unconservative radical approach to what its proponents believed were ‘corrupted’ institutions.

A Confucian Criticism of Scientism: Revisiting the 1923 Controversy of the Life-View

The life-views ( renshengguan ) of the supporters of scientism and of metaphysics in the 1923 controversy are distinct in their concept of the person, with consequences bearing on the nature of a proposed social order. This distinction became apparent when I deciphered the structure based on Confucian and Lebensphilosophie sources that underlie their views. Analysis demonstrates the radical approach of the supporters of science who are generally committed to a homogeneous context regardless of human or material. One attendant consequence of their argument is a concept of the person who realizes themselves in isolation from their surroundings. In contrast, the implicit framework of this-worldliness adopted by the supporters of metaphysics departs from the emotive and moral core of the person, acknowledging the resilience of lived experience. Endorsing the idea of human interrelatedness and interaction they denoted the heterogeneous context of human relations, contending that the person realizes herself in considerate responsiveness.

Imaging in pelvic exenteration-a multidisciplinary practice guide from the ESGAR-SAR-ESUR-PelvEx collaborative group.

Pelvic exenteration (PE) is a radical surgical approach designed for the curative treatment of advanced pelvic malignancies, requiring en-bloc resection of multiple pelvic organs. While the procedure is radical, it has shown promise in enhancing long-term survival and is now comparable in surgical mortality to elective resections for primary pelvic cancers. Imaging plays a crucial role in preoperative planning, with MRI, CT, and PET/CT being pivotal in assessing the extent of cancer and formulating a surgical roadmap. This paper presents clinical practice guidelines for imaging in the context of PE, developed jointly by ESGAR, SAR, ESUR, and the PelvEx Collaborative. These guidelines aim to standardize imaging protocols and reporting to improve the preoperative assessment and facilitate decision-making in the multidisciplinary treatment of pelvic cancers. Our recommendations underscore the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and the need for clear and precise imaging reports to optimize patient care. KEY POINTS: MRI is mandatory for local staging in pelvic exenteration. Structured reporting (using the template provided in this guide) is recommended.
