The electron structure of the V2 molecule has been calculated by means of the DV-Xα method. The configuration 3πu46σg27σg2(lδg↑)2 has been obtained for the ground state, which corresponds to a quintuple bond, and the equilibrium state 1.78 A. The term of the ground state3Σg− and the bond length are in agreement with the experimental data.
