An examination of the usefulness of a quantitative appraisal method in nursing human resource management in primary hospital operating rooms: An example of integrated collaborative scheduling.

In recent years, China medical and health services have made great development. However, the management of nursing human resources in operating room of primary hospitals still faces a series of challenges. In the nursing work of operating room, high-quality nursing human resource management is important for improving the efficiency of operating room and ensuring the safety of patients. From January 2022 to December 2022, comprehensive collaborative scheduling and quantitative scoring evaluation methods were carried out in our hospital, and relevant data were collected. The flexible scheduling combined quantitative scoring performance appraisal system and the traditional scheduling plus average distribution performance appraisal system were statistically analyzed and compared in terms of annual surgical cases, annual overtime hours, annual back work hours, annual compensatory rest hours, and average daily working hours. This study was based on 30 medical staff (27 females and 3 males) in the operating room of a primary hospital. The annual operation volume increased by 387 cases compared with before, and the attitudes of patients to the service attitude and preoperative waiting time were significantly improved, reaching more than 95%. In addition, in the survey of surgeons, it was found that their satisfaction with preoperative preparation and operation time was significantly higher than that of the traditional scheduling method, and reached more than 95%. In the survey of nursing staff, it was found that the satisfaction with the traditional scheduling method was about 80%, and the satisfaction directly reached 100% after the comprehensive collaborative scheduling system. Based on the above survey, the satisfaction of nurses, doctors and patients with the new comprehensive collaborative scheduling system has improved compared with before. After the implementation of the comprehensive collaborative scheduling system, the annual surgical volume has increased significantly, and the average daily working hours of nursing staff have decreased. Comprehensive collaborative scheduling is an effective method of nursing human resource management in operating room, which can effectively improve the work efficiency of nurses and the satisfaction of patients, doctors and nurses. In practice, this method needs to be continuously explored and refined to adapt to different application scenarios and requirements.

Quantitative Evaluation Method of Full‐Cycle Life of Hydrogen Production by Electricity Considering Line Electrothermal Coupler

This study introduces a quantitative evaluation method for the lifecycle of electric hydrogen production in microgrids, considering line electric thermal couplers. By analyzing the operational mechanism and benefits of hydrogen production through residual electricity, we systematically evaluated the cost‐effectiveness of Proton Exchange Membrane electrolytic hydrogen production. A comprehensive lifecycle cost model was constructed, including equipment investment, maintenance, operating costs, and line thermocouple failure costs. By combining hydrogen sales, electricity consumption, new energy subsidies, and delayed construction benefits, a lifecycle benefit model was developed to measure economic performance. Experimental results showed that under a 5% power outage rate, the hydrogen distribution network has a short investment payback period, high production, and significant economic benefits, reaching 23.19 million US dollars by the sixth year. This study provides valuable insights for economic decision‐making in electric hydrogen microgrids.

An I–V characteristic reconstruction-based partial shading diagnosis and quantitative evaluation for photovoltaic strings

The partial shading condition (PSC) is the most common abnormality occurred in photovoltaic (PV) systems. Accurate quantitative evaluation of the shaded area and the severity of the shading is of potential importance in optimizing the maintenance strategy for PV systems. In this paper, we propose a PSC diagnosis and quantitative evaluation method by analyzing the measured string current–voltage (I–V) characteristic obtained from the PV inverter with the I–V scanning function, which includes pre-diagnosis of the system abnormality based on the operational power deviation, the diagnosis of PSCs based on the derivatives characteristics of the PV string, and the quantitative evaluation based on the I–V characteristic reconstruction. The quantitative evaluation of PSCs is the main focus in this paper, where the I–V characteristics of the unshaded PV modules in the partially shaded PV string are reconstructed according to different mismatch levels, respectively. The number of shaded PV modules and the corresponding severity of the partial shadings are estimated according to the reconstructed I–V characteristics. The simulation and experimental results verify that both the proposed diagnosis and quantitative evaluation method is effective with decent accuracy, especially for severe mismatch conditions. Experimental results show that the maximal mean absolute error of the quantified shaded area and quantified shaded rate are approximately 1.4446 units of 1/3 PV modules and 0.026, respectively.

A Novel Quantitative Evaluation Method for Viscosity Reduction Effect of Heavy Oil Cold Recovery Based on The Area Diffusion Process

After thermal recovery, the emulsification viscosity reduction technology for heavy oil cold recovery exhibits low energy consumption and low cost, making it a promising technology for ongoing heavy oil reservoir development. The evaluation and optimization of viscosity reducer is very important for the cold recovery of heavy oil. Prior research mostly employed the high-speed shear technique to measure viscosity following emulsion formation in order to evaluate viscosity reducers. This method ignores the seepage emulsification process under low dynamic conditions of formation, resulting in the selected viscosity reducer ' qualified but not ideal '. Based on the regional diffusion process, a quantitative evaluation method for cold recovery of heavy oil viscosity reduction is put forward. This method is used to simulate the static emulsification effect of heavy oil under real formation conditions, and quantitative evaluation is carried out. The outcomes demonstrate that, in comparison to the conventional assessment approach, this method is more accurate in selecting a viscosity reducer. Appropriately increasing the concentration of the viscosity reducer can improve the efficiency of viscosity reduction. The viscosity reduction effect improves with reservoir temperature. Heavy oil and viscosity reduction agent may be quickly matched using the prediction model of viscosity reduction in cold recovery of heavy oil developed by orthogonal experiment. At the same time, through field practice, the viscosity reducer chosen by this way has a good oil increase impact on oilfield production.

The gas production characteristics and catastrophic hazards evaluation of thermal runaway for LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 lithium-ion batteries under different SOCs

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used as electrochemical energy storage systems in electric vehicles due to their high energy density and long cycle life. However, fire accidents present a trend of frequent occurrence caused by thermal runaway (TR) of LIBs, so it is especially important to evaluate the catastrophic hazards of these LIBs. This study conducted the adiabatic TR test coupled gas production test, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry test, and explosion limit test on a commercial LIB with Ni0.5Co0.2Mn0.3 as the cathode material at different states of charge (SOCs). The results show that the TR temperature and the maximum temperature at low SOC are lower compared to that at a high SOC. The probability of LIBs TR at less than SOC = 50 % is small and also causing less harm. For the gas production characteristics, the lower the SOC of the battery, the lower the gas production volume. The peak and steady-state gas production increase with the increase of SOC. For the mixed gases generated during TR, the content of CO2 shows a trend of decreasing with the increasing of battery SOC, while that of H2 and CO increase with the increasing of SOC. For the explosion limit of the mixed gas, the lower explosion limit and upper explosion limit decrease and increase with the increasing of SOC, respectively. Finally, based on the seven parameters related to the TR gas production of LIBs and so on, the analytic hierarchy process method was used to establish a LIB TR disaster-causing hazard evaluation system. The evaluation system can quantitatively evaluate the thermal safety of a LIB. This is instructive for establishing a comprehensive quantitative evaluation method for battery safety in practical engineering applications.

Shear wave elastography to assess stiffness of the human ovary and other reproductive tissues across the reproductive lifespan in health and disease†.

The ovary is one of the first organs to show overt signs of aging in the human body, and ovarian aging is associated with a loss of gamete quality and quantity. The age-dependent decline in ovarian function contributes to infertility and an altered endocrine milieu, which has ramifications for overall health. The aging ovarian microenvironment becomes fibro-inflammatory and stiff with age, and this has implications for ovarian physiology and pathology, including follicle growth, gamete quality, ovulation dynamics, and ovarian cancer. Thus, developing a non-invasive tool to measure and monitor the stiffness of the human ovary would represent a major advance for female reproductive health and longevity. Shear wave elastography is a quantitative ultrasound imaging method for evaluation of soft tissue stiffness. Shear wave elastography has been used clinically in assessment of liver fibrosis and characterization of tendinopathies and various neoplasms in thyroid, breast, prostate, and lymph nodes as a non-invasive diagnostic and prognostic tool. In this study, we review the underlying principles of shear wave elastography and its current clinical uses outside the reproductive tract as well as its successful application of shear wave elastography to reproductive tissues, including the uterus and cervix. We also describe an emerging use of this technology in evaluation of human ovarian stiffness via transvaginal ultrasound. Establishing ovarian stiffness as a clinical biomarker of ovarian aging may have implications for predicting the ovarian reserve and outcomes of Assisted Reproductive Technologies as well as for the assessment of the efficacy of emerging therapeutics to extend reproductive longevity. This parameter may also have broad relevance in other conditions where ovarian stiffness and fibrosis may be implicated, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, late off target effects of chemotherapy and radiation, premature ovarian insufficiency, conditions of differences of sexual development, and ovarian cancer. Summary sentence: Shear Wave Elastography is a non-invasive technique to study human tissue stiffness, and here we review its clinical applications and implications for reproductive health and disease.

Signal-distribution-based crack detection for divertor monoblock inspection using eddy current testing

This study evaluated the applicability of eddy current testing to the surface inspection of a divertor plasma-facing unit in a Tokamak fusion reactor. Artificial slits were introduced on the surfaces of some samples. The eddy current testing was performed to detect these slits. A quantitative detection evaluation method based on evaluating the distribution differences is proposed. The results reveal that the signals of slits near the edge are easily buried by the edge signals and difficult to detect directly from the signal amplitude image. With the aid of the proposed method, not only the slit in the middle of the sample surface but also the slits near the sample edges were successfully detected by eddy current testing.

Expert examination methods greatly facilitate the solution of difficult-to-formalize problems. However, in this case the solution is affected by a subjective factor. The decision-making theory has a number of methodological techniques that diminish its effect on the decision made. This paper presents a method of quantitative evaluation of experts’ competence from the results of an expert examination of the efficiency determination of unique, technically complex systems of special and dual purpose, in particular space-rocket complexes. In an expert examination of projects of such systems, it is suggested that the experts’ competence be quantitatively evaluated in two stages: a preliminary evaluation of the experts’ competence from their factual data and a refined evaluation of the experts’ competence just before the calculation of the expected indices of target efficiency using the results of expert examinations made by the procedure developed. The proposed method of quantitative evaluation of experts’ competence is based on evaluating the qualification of the experts involved in the target efficiency determination of a complex engineering system. A rank matrix constructed on the basis of partial criteria of technical efficiency and additional factors of indirect control is proposed as a tool to eliminate cases where at a high level of expert evaluation consistency the most accurate expert evaluations may be considered anomalous in the expert evaluation of the technical and target efficiency of space-rocket systems. The presented mathematical model of quantitative evaluation of experts’ competence includes parameters that adjust the mathematical model to specific conditions of the expert evaluation (expert evaluation methods employed, measurement scales, specific limitations, etc.). The mathematical model is constructed around the axiom that the “true” estimates of the significance of the objects under evaluation lie within the expert evaluation domain. The paper also presents an enlarged algorithm for adjustment parameter calculation from the results of expert estimate preprocessing. The presented mathematical model and algorithm make it possible to develop a computer program for determining experts’ competence from expert evaluation results.

Fatigue life estimation of nickel-based single crystal superalloy with different inclined film cooling holes: Initial damage quantification and coupling of damage-fracture mechanics models

Quantitative assessment of the initial damage state of a structure and fatigue life prediction on this basis, especially when it is sensitive to manufacturing quality, is crucial for both engineering application and material science. Traditional solutions based on fracture or damage mechanics either require precise constitutive relationships and cumbersome physical mechanism models or simply ignore the initial damage state. This study developed a novel equivalent initial flaw size (EIFS) quantitative evaluation method for film cooling holes in Nickel-based single crystal superalloy turbine blades to address the strong correlation between the initial damage in and fatigue life of the material. The temperature and stress field differences at the edges of holes with different inclination angles were simulated using a solid-liquid-gas three-phase level-set model and considered to represent the same initial damage. Next, the coupled damage–fracture mechanics model was used to achieve equivalent crack insertion, crack propagation, and fatigue life prediction based on the EIFS. The results indicate that this method can provide a highly robust EIFS distribution interval and that the crack geometry correction factor and EIFS distribution range are weakly correlated with the loading conditions (with an error within 2 %). The EIFS-based fatigue life predictions demonstrated a notable degree of accuracy, with the majority of the predicted and experimental fatigue lives falling within a three-fold dispersion band and all predictions remaining confined within a five-fold dispersion band of the actual lifetime. These results represent a substantial advancement in accuracy compared to traditional damage mechanics predictions. Therefore, this study provides a powerful approach for evaluating the fatigue life of turbine blades considering the initial damage state and can be widely applied to guide drilling process optimization and blade fatigue analysis.

Theoretical study on Mα transition parameters of He-like to C-like cobalt ions

The multi-configuration Dirac–Hartree–Fock method is employed to investigate the Mα transitions of He-like to C-like Co ions. This study encompasses various parameters, such as energy levels, wavelengths, transition rates, oscillator strengths, and line strengths. The Breit interaction, vacuum polarization, and self-energy corrections were included in the computation of energy levels. The computed results we obtained align well with both experimental and theoretical findings. The differences for most energy levels, transition wavelengths, and oscillator strengths are all below 0.6%, 0.8%, and 20%, respectively. The uncertainty estimation method of the transitions of line strength is evaluated using quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. The resulting accurate and consistent MCDHF data are expected to be useful for theoretical research on cobalt ions.

Toppling stability of partially buried blocks in granite residual soil slope under extremely heavy rainfall condition

The granite blocks are widely distributed on granite residual soil slopes, particularly in the circumstances of humid granitic terrain. These blocks may be partially buried in the soil slope with their long axis upright, which results in complex toppling mechanisms. The objective of this study is to investigate the mechanical stability of the blocks against toppling failure, considering extremely heavy rainfall. Based on the analysis of limit equilibrium, an analytical formulation taking the influence of the block overhang length and the slope inclination into account is proposed to calculate the factor of safety (FOS) of the blocks partially buried in the soil slope. The results of the model experiments verified the performance of this formulation by showing a consistent behavior regarding the stability of the block with the formulation. The FOS obtained from this analytical formulation first shows a trend of increase and then a decrease according to the overhang length of the blocks. Furthermore, the critical overhang length and the critical slope inclination were found related to the toppling failure of potential blocks. The analytical formula obtained in this study can be used to determine the factor of safety against toppling of the single blocks on granite residual soil slopes, which provide a quantitative method for risk evaluation of toppling disaster in granitic regions.

Novel collision risk measurement method for multi-ship encounters via velocity obstacles and temporal proximity

The collision risk assessment of multi-ship encounters in busy waters is of great significance for collision risk early warning and the intelligent supervision of maritime traffic. In this paper, a quantitative and visual evaluation method is proposed to describe changes in multi-ship collision risk in the velocity space according to multi-ship collision risk characteristics. Non-linear velocity obstacles and closest point of approach were combined to measure the risk of ship collision from the perspective of both the difficulty and urgency of the encounter. The proposed method was verified via case studies using historical Automatic Identification System data for the East China Sea. The method advantages were confirmed via comparison to the conventional time-varying collision risk and collision risk index methods. The results show that the proposed method can quantify changes in multi-ship collision risk more intuitively and effectively. The proposed method could be further developed as a new risk indicator for maritime traffic safety management and could aid in the navigation safety of manned and unmanned ships.

Quantitative evaluation of crowd intelligence innovation system health: An ecosystem perspective

Crowd intelligence innovation (CII) is an open problem-solving model, typically performs on a crowdsourcing-based online innovation platform, which is highly dependent on the engagement and high-quality work of participants. On an online platform, many demanders publish tasks, and innovators submit schemes, which forms a complex CII system. To ensure such a CII system operates sustainably, it is critical for the platform operators to know the current system’s health statuses before taking proper management actions. However, the large influx of participators with varied behaviors makes it extremely difficult to evaluate the health statuses of the system and capture its characteristics. Practicable method for quantitatively evaluating the health status of a CII system is still missing. Therefore, this study proposed a new quantitative health status evaluation method from an ecosystem perspective. First, the crowd intelligence innovation ecosystem (CIIE) was established by mapping the CII system onto the natural ecosystem based on ecological theory. Second, the health status of CIIE was described by its internal health status and external health status using a mixed method. The internal health status of the CIIE was defined and evaluated based on its health characteristics in terms of stability, ascendency, development capacity, and redundancy measurements using ecological network analysis. The external health status was evaluated using the ecological entropy index system. As the primary verification of the feasibility of our proposed approach, a case study of Zhubajie was conducted. These results confirmed the feasibility of our evaluation method. With this method, the health status of CIIEs could be accurately measured, which supported the management and organization the CII systems. Future work will focus on adapting suitable measures to improve the operation of CII.

Abstract 6879: Development of a rapid multiplex immunohistochemistry for characterizing tumor-immune microenvironment

Abstract Intratumoral immune profiles have been related to prognosis and therapeutic efficacy; this could result in personalized treatment based on biomarkers. Although techniques for multifactorial evaluation of different tumor-immune microenvironments have been established, their practical implementation in clinical settings still requires further improvement, where the time required for testing needs to be reduced and the technology needs to be clinically validated. To develop a multiplex, quantitative, and rapid tissue evaluation method based on clinically established standard immunohistochemistry (IHC), we attempted to develop 6-marker rapid multiplex IHC based on our previously reported 14-marker multiplex IHC via the reduction of the number of labels and speeding up the staining procedure (Tsujikawa et al. Cell Reports, 2017). First, we confirmed whether immunological features that were found to be associated with prognosis in 14-marker multiplex IHC analyses could be identified with fewer labels. Quantitative results by selected six markers exhibited significant correlation with those by 14 markers in terms of immune classifications based on the balance of lymphoid and myeloid cells. Next, we developed a rapid staining protocol by optimizing the reaction temperature, chromogen, and washing time, allowing the completion of 6-marker analysis in 5 hours and 49 minutes as opposed to several days required for the conventional multiplex IHC. By using six markers, validation in benign tonsil tissue and head and neck cancer tissue exhibited significant correlation between rapid and standard multiplex IHC in terms of staining intensities, densities of T cells, macrophages, lymphoid/myeloid immune cells ratios, and spatial profiles of intratumoral immune infiltrates. This method may enable a quantitative assessment of tumor-immune microenvironment on a clinically feasible time scale, which promote the development of tissue biomarker-guided therapeutic strategies. A depth-resolved quantitative evaluation method for non-carious cervical lesions treatment with optical coherence tomography

ObjectivesThe aim of this study is prognostic assessment of surface smoothness and the presence of internal bubbles after treatment of non-cancerous cervical lesions (NCCLs) using optical coherence tomography (OCT). MethodsAfter treatment with NCCLs, cross-sectional images of the lesion parts of the sample were non-invasively acquired and analyzed. The surface smoothness between tooth and resin, resin and cemento-enamel junction, and the presence bubble inside resin was confirmed. In addition, using an algorithm that distinguishes between resin and dental structure based on OCT cross-sectional images, we quantitatively analyzed the amount of resin used in treating NCCLs and acquired 3D images. ResultsThe inner structure of the resin in each sample was checked, and the presence of bubbles was confirmed. In addition, the resin sections were separated from the tomographic images acquired by OCT to visualize 3D images. The volume of resin used in the treatment part of each NCCLs samples was quantitatively analyzed as 3.7216 ∼ 14.889 mm3. ConclusionsOCT is able to measure not only the surface abrasion provided by existing intraoral scanner, but also the size and depth location of interal bubbles, which is distinctive advantage of our method. Based on our results, OCT is a significant tool for qualitative and quantitative analysis of dental NCCLs treatment before and after treatment. Clinical significanceThe study used OCT, a non-destructive diagnostic, to reveal the structure of the resin and the location and size of bubbles after NCCLs treatment. These findings could be golden standard in determining the prognosis of NCCLs treatment.

A classification and quantitative assessment method for internal and external surface defects in pipelines based on ASTC-Net

Classification and size quantification of defects on both the internal and external surfaces of pipelines are critical to pipeline integrity assessment. However, defect classification is challenging because of the similarities of defect signals on the internal and external surfaces. In addition, most existing size quantification methods are not sufficiently accurate. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a classification and quantitative evaluation method based on an asymmetric student–teacher with a classifier network (ASTC-Net). First, a novel approach for expanding defect magnetic flux leakage (MFL) data is validated through experiments and simulations. Second, ASTC-Net is built to address the problem of defect classification and quantification. Finally, the superiority of the method is verified by experiments. The results show that this approach pioneers the accurate classification of defects on both internal and external surfaces by achieving an accuracy of 99.41%. Furthermore, a high-precision quantitative assessment of defect size is realized, with length, width, and depth errors of only 0.35 mm, 0.34 mm, and 0.41% of the wall thickness, respectively. These experimental results clearly demonstrate that this method has exceptionally high accuracy in defect classification and quantification, offering vast prospects for its application in pipeline MFL evaluation.

A Two-step Inverse Method for Quantitative Damage Evaluation of Plate-like Structures Using Vibration Approach

This study presents a novel two-step approach to assess plate-like structural laminar damages, particularly for delamination damage detection of composite structures. Firstly, a 2-D continuous wavelet transform is employed to identify the damage location and sizes from vibration curvature data. An inverse method is subsequently then used to determine the bending stiffness reduction ratio along a specified direction, enabling the quantification of the delamination severity. The method employed in this study is an extension from the one-dimensional inverse method developed in a previous work of the authors. The applicability of the two-step inverse approach is demonstrated in a simulation analysis and by an experimental study on a cantilever composite plate containing a single delamination. The inverse method is shown to have the capacity to reveal the detailed damage information of delamination within a constrained searching space and can be used to determine the effective flexural stiffness of composite plate structures, even in cases of complex delamination damage. Application of a water-energy-carbon coupling index to evaluate the long-term operational stability of the anaerobic-anoxic-oxic-membrane bioreactor (A2/O-MBR) process under the influence of rainstorms

In the context of global climate change, sudden rainstorms and typhoons induce fluctuations in hydraulic shocks to wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in coastal areas, causing two challenges of stable effluent quality and low-carbon operation. We established a quantitative evaluation method for resistance of wastewater treatment processes to hydraulic shocks based on the water-energy-carbon nexus using operational data from a WWTP in southeast coastal China from July 2018 to December 2022. The effects of hydraulic shocks on the operational stability of the anaerobic-anoxic-oxic-membrane bioreactor (A2/O-MBR) process were analyzed following five steps. The results showed that the gray water footprint (GWF) of the process was 9.3% lower than that of the A2/O process. The energy footprint (ENF) and carbon footprint (CF) were approximately 2.1 times and 1.7 times higher than those of the A2/O process, respectively. The resistance to hydraulic shocks of the A2/O-MBR process is approximately 5.5 times higher than that of the A2/O process. In conclusion, the A2/O-MBR process exhibits higher process operational stability when subjected to hydraulic shocks, which is more conducive to the efficient and stable operation of WWTPs in rainstorm and typhoon-prone areas. The evaluation methodology provides qualitative technical support for selecting upgrading processes for WWTPs in different regions.

Quantitative evaluation method of triboelectric nano-electroporation based on electrical impedance spectroscopy

Electroporation refers to a biophysical process wherein cell permeability is altered by inducing pores of the cell membrane through application of an electric field. It has found extensive applications in cancer therapy and gene delivery. The alteration of electrical impedance during electroporation was investigated by synergistically employing a self-powered triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) and electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), thus serving as a theoretical foundation for real-time efficacy assessment of electroporation in clinical settings. A self-powered electroporation experimental system was established, and the findings demonstrated that upon reaching the threshold level of cell transmembrane potential, the application time of electric field led to electroporation of the cells, resulting in a decline in the impedance value of the blood. As the electric field persists, the impedance value gradually diminishes; when the blood impedance value changes insignificantly, the degree of cell electroporation is saturated. During the process of tumor cell electroporation, the relationships between HeLa cell impedance Z* and time T and cell concentration C is Z* = 7×10−11T5- 4×10−8T4+9×10−6T3-8×10−4T2+0.0117T-9.3587 C+124.2. Simultaneously, the occurrence and reversibility of electroporation were verified through Propidium Iodide (PI) fluorescence staining. The numerical calculations presented in this paper are based on the extended HANAI theory. Furthermore, the simulations were conducted through finite element analysis and perform equivalent circuit fitting on the experimental data. The numerical and simulation results are consistent with the experimental findings, validating the study's establishment of a quantifiable relationship between electroporation degree and cell parameter Z*、Rc、Xc and RRBC. As evidenced, the alteration in electrical impedance spectra can effectively indicate the extent of electroporation. Therefore, it is expected that employing the EIS approach will become an effective means to measure the therapeutic efficacy of electroporation in future clinical applications.
