The dimensions of uncertainty and ambiguity in adolescents and young adults' romantic relationships: A systematic review

Contemporary romantic relationships in adolescence and young adulthood no longer follow a linear trajectory but come to be increasingly characterized by high heterogeneity. Social networks have also constituted a new context for interaction, which has given rise to the tendency to enact behaviors characterized by uncertainty and ambiguity. This study aims at providing a framework of the existing literature contributions on the dimensions of relational uncertainty and relational ambiguity in adolescents and young adults' romantic relationships. A state-of-art systematic review was performed on PsycInfo, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Science Direct, adopting the PRISMA statement. Through a qualitative analysis, four themes emerged from the 23 included articles: (a) the definitions of relational uncertainty and relational ambiguity, (b) the impact on the quality of the romantic relationship, (c) communicative and individual outcomes, and (d) coping strategies.

Good-enough Care? How Patients' Perceptions of Counselors' Professional Skills Relate to Everyday Life in Forensic Long-stay Units.

The overall goal of long-term forensic care is to strive toward acceptable levels of adaptation and quality of life (QoL) of the forensic patient in the institutional context. While the bulk of the literature has focused on the deleterious consequences of personality pathology in this regard, research investigating the contribution of the quality of the therapeutic relationship has remained rather scant. Assuming that the perceived competence of the direct counselor, as perceived by patients, forms an important aspect in this regard, the central aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between patients' perceptions of their therapist's professional skills, their self-reported maladaptive behavior on the ward, and their experienced QoL. To this end, we recruited patients (N = 60) in long-stay forensic units and investigated their perceptions of 10 specific skills displayed by their therapist, along a "too little-too much" rating scale. The results revealed that patients who had the overall impression that their counselor was equipped with an adequate set of professional skills showed less maladaptive behavior and perceived a higher QoL on the ward. Conversely, at a more specific competence level, only a positive relationship between a counselor's predictability and self-reported QoL was found. Taken together, these results highlight that an overall professional skill evaluation matters in the context of forensic patients' adaptation and QoL in their long-stay units, with the counselor's predictability serving as a crucial aspect in obtaining the most favorable outcomes.

Exploring the formation of destination loyalty from destination personality and self‐congruity: A mediating role of destination relationship quality

AbstractThis study proposes a new concept of the tourist‐destination relationship called destination relationship quality. It consists of four elements: destination satisfaction, destination trust, destination commitment, and destination attachment. The study investigates how destination personality and self‐congruity influence tourists' destination loyalty through destination relationship quality. Data were obtained through systematic sampling from 424 Chinese tourists in Guangzhou, China. Using partial least squares structural equation modelling analysis, this study confirmed that destination personality and self‐congruity are antecedent factors of destination relationship quality, which ultimately affect tourists' destination loyalty towards a destination. The study contributes to tourist‐destination relationship research by indicating the mechanism for establishing destination relationship quality so that researchers can further apply this concept in their future studies. The results of this study are helpful for tourist destination marketers to attach importance to the establishment of destination personality and create core differences in tourist destinations when developing marketing strategies.

Partner support behaviors and relationship quality in interracial and intraracial Black romantic relationships

AbstractA convergent, mixed‐methods design was used to understand associations between partner behaviors and relationship quality among people in interracial and intraracial romantic relationships. Across two samples, 224 individuals (including 55 couples) who were in a relationship in which they and/or their partner identified as Black completed measures of perceived partner responsiveness, partner responses to stress, and relationship quality. Participants in the first sample also provided open‐ended responses about the role of race in their relationship. Participants who reported higher partner responsiveness, more supportive partner responses to their stress, better overall dyadic coping, and fewer unsupportive partner responses to their stress reported higher relationship quality. The strength of the associations for perceived partner responsiveness and partner responses to stress with relationship quality did not differ based on the racial composition of the relationship. Qualitative responses revealed additional support processes and barriers to support that may be unique to different relationship compositions. These findings expand understanding of the most effective support behaviors that Black individuals and their romantic partners use in their relationships and illuminate how support processes might differ depending on an individual's race and the race of their partner.

Effect of the Hair Beauty Shop Store Attributes on Relationship Quality and Revisit Intention

This study aims to improve the service quality of beauty shops by identifying the causal relationship between store attributes, relationship quality, and revisit intention of hair beauty shops, and to contribute to strengthening marketing strategies for customer satisfaction management and increasing sales. To analyze the survey data, a survey was conducted targeting customers who used hair beauty shops located in Gwangju Metropolitan City, and 263 copies were used in the final analysis. As a result of analyzing the collected data using the SPSS 25.0 statistical package program, it was found that service expertise, price, store atmosphere, and sales promotion of hair and beauty shop store attributes had a significant impact on customer satisfaction, and the service of store attributes was found to have a significant impact on customer satisfaction. Professionalism, price, and store location convenience were found to have a significant impact on immersion, trust, and revisit intention. Additionally, customer satisfaction, trust, and commitment in relationship quality were found to have a significant impact on revisit intention. As a result of the above results, it can be seen that hair beauty shop customers are influenced by relationship quality and revisit intention through factors such as service expertise, price, and store location convenience. Based on these results, the hair beauty shop is strengthening its service expertise. It requires efforts for self-development and service quality, and suggests management and marketing strategies that can increase customer satisfaction by setting appropriate prices.

This study used 363 questionnaires for statistical analysis from December 1 to 20, 2023 targeting consumers who used meal kit stores. As a result of the analysis, first, brand, safety, quality, and price, which are optional attributes of unmanned meal kit stores, had a positive effect on satisfaction. Second, quality and price, which are optional attributes of unmanned meal kit stores, had a positive effect on trust. Third, brand, quality, design, and price, which are optional attributes of unmanned meal kit stores, had a positive effect on repurchase intention. Fourth, safety and price, which are optional attributes of unmanned meal kit stores, had a positive effect on recommendation intention. Fifth, satisfaction and trust, the quality of relationships, had a positive effect on repurchase intention. Sixth, satisfaction and trust had a positive effect on recommendation intention. Therefore, companies need to build an unmanned automation system with enhanced safety in consideration of factors related to the purchase behavior of consumers who purchase meal kits, and it can help establish product directions and marketing strategies to improve meal kit standards to provide some implications.

Assessment of the Quality of Life and Relationship of Mental Status Among Parents with Cerebral Palsy Children in a Single Centre Study

Introduction: Children with cerebral palsy (CP) in Bangladesh suffer immensely, with no means or hope for a decent life and a public system lacking basic facilities.This study aims to analyze the quality of life (QoL) and depression status of parents among children with CP, as well as the relationship between these factors and their demographic profile. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study in which data were collected from the Pediatric Department of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Savar. The participants included 150 children with CP between January 2018 and December 2020. Results: The mean age of the mothers (29.86±6.14) was between 25 and 29 years (32.7%). The most common type of CP was spastic CP among 100 mothers (66.7%). A significant relationship was observed between the mother’s age during marriage and World Health Organization quality of life (WHOQoL-BREF), physical health (P<0.01), psychological health (P<0.01), and the age group of 31-35 years had the lowest scores (Mean±SD 62.00±5.16, 51±0.683) in both domains. A strong correlation (P<0.001) was observed between QoL, physical health (r=0.319), psychological (r=0.365), social (r=0.390) and environmental (r=0.388). From the box plot, QoL showed that spastic CP posed good QoL for mild depression while all other types had neither poor nor good QoL. Conclusion: A hidden issue in every parent is that CP children are the misfortune of their fate that increases their level of depression and consequently decreases their QoL.

An interpretative phenomenological analysis of daily meditation and its impact on one’s sense of self

The present study investigated the impact of daily meditation on sense of self. There is extensive research regarding the physical and mental health benefits that meditation can bring about, yet literature is still limited on the influence this has on an individual’s sense of self. The aims of the current study were to contribute to the existing body of research on meditation and the self and to gain a better understanding of the link between meditation and the self. Furthermore, to look at the potential social health benefits that meditation induces. This was achieved using a qualitative methodological approach applying Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), with an epistemological stance of interpretivism and an ontological position of social constructionism. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted in collecting qualitative data. Three super-ordinate themes emerged which were: 1. Inside Out Positivity, 2. “Quieting the Mind to Hear the Heart”, 3. The Holistic Experience, with eight corresponding sub-ordinate themes. The key findings were that meditation increased feelings of kindness and compassion and improved the quality of relationships for the participants. Participants felt more positive and calmer in their daily living and reported higher levels of awareness. Another key finding was that participants had a better perception of themselves and felt like meditation gave them more perspective of mind. Additionally, participants noted physical changes with greater bodily connection to breathing and had more mental clarity. Finally, participants reported enhanced feelings of spirituality and spoke of power and consciousness beyond themselves. The implications of these findings are that meditation can be a useful intervention for social health issues such as poor relationship quality or feelings of social exclusion by increasing compassion and awareness. Meditation is a useful tool for reducing stress and feeling present. Meditation would also be a beneficial method for positive self-perception and identity.

Understanding the self concept in the Islamic perspective influences the quality of interpersonal communication. Our research aims to relate a comprehensive understanding of self-concept in Islam to individuals' everyday communication practices. This research employs a qualitative approach with a literature review. The findings indicate that a strong understanding of self-concept in Islam positively impacts interpersonal communication quality. This underscores the importance of integrating religious values into everyday communication practices. In conclusion, understanding the concept of self in Islam can enhance interpersonal relationship quality, providing a significant contribution to the development of psychology as a discipline. Therefore, it is crucial to integrate religious values into communication training programs to strengthen interpersonal skills within society.

The customer's position is the spearhead of business, including modern retail, for this reason, this research aims to find ways to optimize customer retention in modern retail with the role of relationship quality, and customer experience in Ramayana department stores. The population in this study were customers of Ramayana department stores in the DKI Jakarta area. The sampling technique used proportional random sampling with a sample size of 400 customers of Ramayana department stores. The data analysis method used in this research is path analysis using JASP software. This research produces conclusions 1). Relationship quality is proven to have a positive and significant influence on Customer Experience at Ramayana Department Store. 2) Customer Experience is proven to have a positive and significant influence on Customer Retention at Ramayana Department Store. 3) Relationship quality has a positive effect on Customer Retention through Customer Experience as full mediation at Ramayana Department Store.

Social media marketing activities for influencing voter citizenship behaviour: brand relationship quality as a mediator

ABSTRACT Social media marketing activities (SMMA) have become a crucial factor in the political arena, setting political parties apart from one another. This research, based on social identity and social exchange theory, aims to investigate the impact of SMMA on voter citizenship behaviour (VCB) through brand relationship quality (BRQ) as a mediator in the Indian context. Data was collected from eligible Indian voters, out of which 372 responses were valid and were analyzed using structural equation modelling. The research found that all proposed hypotheses were valid except for one. SMMA had a significant influence on BRQ, which in turn had a significant relationship with VCB. However, the direct impact of SMMA on VCB was insignificant, meaning that the relationship was indirect and mediated through BRQ. Furthermore, the educational qualification of voters was found to moderate the relationship between BRQ and VCB. This paper emphasizes the importance of various dimensions of SMMA in building and maintaining relationships with voters and influencing their citizenship behaviour, providing valuable insights for social media managers of political parties.

Investigating the impact of coach behaviours and coach-athlete relationships on psychological safety

ABSTRACT The aims of the present study were two-fold: (a) to examine the links between two sets of perceived coach behaviours (supportive and controlling) and psychological safety, as well as (b) to explore whether the quality of the coach-athlete relationship explains the link between the two sets of coach behaviours and psychological safety. A total of 295 Turkish athletes (42% female and 58% male) in team sports with a mean age of 21.69 (±4.71) completed a multi-section questionnaire that measured the three main variables of the study, namely, coach behaviours, coach-athlete relationship quality, and psychological safety. Structural equation modelling revealed that both perceived coach behaviours (supportive and thwarting/controlling) and coach-athlete relationship quality predicted athletes’ psychological safety in their team. Moreover, the quality of the coach-athlete relationship explained the association between athletes’ perceptions of coach behaviours and psychological safety within the team context. The findings of this study contribute to growing research that examines the processes by which psychological safety can be nurtured in sports. While evidence thus far suggests that a coach orchestrates the environment, the findings of this study would seem to suggest that athletes, through good-quality relationships with their coaches, can stimulate the creation of a psychologically safe environment. The findings are discussed with a particular emphasis on future research directions and practical applications.

Parenting in African American families: Profiles of general and culturally specific dimensions of parent-adolescent relationships during late adolescence.

Developmental and parenting frameworks suggest that factors at the individual-level and multiple levels of adolescents' contexts are important determinants of how African American parents prepare their children to live in a racially stratified society. Using a person-centered approach, this study explored heterogeneity in profiles of African American parent-adolescent relationships (PARs) using indicators of parent-reported ethnic-racial socialization (cultural socialization, preparation for bias), general parenting practices (autonomy support, monitoring, behavioral control), and relationship quality (warmth, communication, conflict). We also examined how adolescents' characteristics, parents' personal and psychological resources, and contextual sources of stress and support contributed to profile membership. Data were from the Maryland Adolescent Development in Context Study (1991-2000) and consisted of 589 African American caregiver-adolescent dyads (caregivers: 89% female; 57.2% married; adolescents: 50.7% female; Mage = 17, SD = 0.64, range = 15-19 years old). Latent profile analysis revealed four profiles: (a) No-Nonsense High Socializers, (b) Indulgent Average Socializers, (c) Unengaged Silent Socializers, and (d) Authoritative Cultural Socializers. Adolescent characteristics (gender, depression, and problem behavior), parents' personal and psychological resources (parenting self-efficacy, centrality, private regard, and depression), and contextual sources of stress and support (stress: economic hardship, family stress, neighborhood disadvantage and support: marital status, family cohesion, family organization) were correlated with profile membership. Findings suggest that variability in African American PARs is shaped by an extensive set of individual and contextual factors related to adolescents and the family and neighborhood context. These findings have important implications for future research and how to target multiple potential levers for change in African American parenting practice.

When distance enhances closeness

Exploring international students’ long-distance relationships with their back-home families is important for understanding how to support their stability and growth. Using qualitative interviews and surveys, this research explored perspectives from both international students and their parents about their remote interactions while oceans apart. Findings indicate three transformative shifts that enhanced the quality of student-parent relationships through their distance: a) incidental to intentionally motivated interactions, b) task-oriented to person-centered attention, and c) authoritarian to communally-oriented dispositions. These shifts fostered a greater sense of trust, support, and intimacy between international students and their back-home parents. Interweaving Construal Level Theory with the findings, this study offers implications for informing international students and their parents on developing effective, long-distance relationships.

The Impact of Social Media Engagement on Friendship and Relationship Quality

The purpose of this study is to test the theory of how social media impacts the relationship of young men and women that compares the time spent on social media to the quality of relationships, both platonic and romantic, for students studying psychology at Clark Atlanta University. Past research on generation Z adults indicated that there has been a great decrease in interest in being in a monogamous relationship. This study is unique because not only does it focus on romantic relationships, but it includes friendships and how social media may play a significant factor. The hypothesis of the present study was that student social media activities will have an impact on relationship and friendship quality. The participants were Clark Atlanta students studying psychology. The data collection method was a survey created on Qualtrics. The results indicated that the participants do love their partners; however, desire more. Research shows that they are not necessarily satisfied in their relationships and that it does not meet their original expectations. Within their friendships, they have disagreements every so often, but they are able to maintain a healthy relationship as they practice good communication between one another. The majority stated that their most used application is a social media platform with an average of 15 hours a week. The expectations were thus confirmed. Implications of the results for future studies include a longitudinal study on the role of social media in romantic commitments. The results of this study can contribute to the field of psychology and help initiate positive change for young adults and adolescents who are currently consumed by social media and digital realities and ideas they acquire due to their excessive usage.
