This study examines the impact of work-family conflict, social support, psychological well-being, and emotional fatigue among female workers based on a review of previous literature. The analysis reveals that work-family conflict experienced by female workers can lead to decreased workplace performance and quality of family interactions. However, high social support can help reduce emotional fatigue and increase life satisfaction among female workers. Moreover, high psychological well-being can be achieved with full support from the surrounding environment, while emotional fatigue can be alleviated through increased social support and effective conflict management between work and family. In conclusion, it is important for companies and families to provide adequate support to female workers to address work-family conflict and enhance their overall well-being.

УЛОГА ДИМЕНЗИЈА КВАЛИТЕТА ПОРОДИЧНИХ ИНТЕРАКЦИЈА И ШКОЛСКОГ ЖИВОТА У ПРЕДИКЦИЈИ ШКОЛСКЕ ДИСЦИПЛИНЕ

The problem of school discipline has a long history, however, it still represents an important disturbing factor in the course of teaching. As the teaching staff faces difficulties in eliminating unwanted behavior of students and maintaining discipline, it is essential to have a good knowledge of the etiology of school discipline in order to effectively work on its prevention. The subject of this research is the examination of the predictive power of dimensions of the quality of family interactions and school life in predicting school discipline. The sample consisted of 200 respondents, fourth-grade students of high schools from the territory of the city of Leskovac. School discipline is operationalized by the School Indiscipline Scalе, dimensions of the quality of family interactions with the Scale of the quality of family interactions, while the Quality of School Life Questionnaire was used to examine the dimensions of the quality of school life. The expected correlations of certain dimensions of the quality of school life and family interactions with the dimensions of school indiscipline were determined. Through the procedure of hierarchical regression analysis, it was determined that the dimensions of the quality of family interactions are not single statistically significant predictors of the dimensions of school indiscipline

Schizophrenia and family burden in Morocco: assessment in a sample of 150 caregivers

BackgroundThere have been few studies conducted in Africa about the burden on families of patients with schizophrenia. This study had two main objectives: assessing the burden of those families and identifying the socio-demographic factors associated with this one.MethodsWe included 300 participants: 150 were primary family caregivers of 150 patients with schizophrenia. A questionnaire was used to collect their sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, and their objective burden using the FBIS (Family Burden Interview Schedule).ResultsPatients were mostly men (n = 122, 81%), the mean age was 32.4 years ± 10.1, and more than half of the patients were psychoactive substance users. Participants (caregivers) were mostly women (n = 90, 60%). Their mean age was 51.9 ± 12.8 years, with a percentage of 62 (41%) illiteracy, while 98 (65%) were parents. The mean score of the family burden was 21.82 (0–48). The most affected categories were family routine, family interaction, and finances. The burden of families was associated with five sociodemographic variables: the female gender of the caregiver (p = 0.01), the male gender of the patient (p = 0.02), his young age (p = 0,004), his education level (p < 0.0001), and his psychoactive substance use (PAS) (p < 0.000 1).ConclusionThe three main constraints encountered by families caring for a patient with schizophrenia were disruption of daily activities, deterioration in the quality of family interactions with those around them, and lastly financial difficulties. These results highlighted the need to set up intermediary socio-medical structures, which would act as a link between conventional hospital services and families.

Parenting strategies and quality of family interaction in the children's perception

The aim of this study is to perform a comprehensive analysis of children's and adolescents' perceptions of parenting strategies and the quality of family interaction, focusing on a comparison between fathers and mothers. A non-probabilistic sampling method based on convenience was employed to select 10 participants, consisting of male and female children and adolescents aged between 6 to 18 years old. The research instruments include a demographic questionnaire and the Family Interaction Quality Scale, which have been proven to be valid and reliable. Statistical analysis using a two-sample independent t-test reveals that the factors Involvement and Positive Communication have statistical significance with a p-value less than 0.05. Scores for these two factors were higher for mothers compared to fathers. These results highlight the importance of considering the roles and approaches taken by both parents in the context of family interaction quality. The findings are expected to serve as a reference in designing more effective family education interventions or programs, especially in improving the dynamics and quality of interactions among family members from the children and adolescents' perspective.

Behind The Screen: Exploring The Phenomenon of Obsessive Love for Cell Phones in Family Relationships

This study investigates the phenomenon of obsessive love for cell phones in the context of family relationships. The main objective is to understand how this obsession affects the family dynamics, the interactions between parents and children and the emotional connection in the family nucleus. A multidimensional approach was translated combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Data were collected through questionnaires that assessed cell phone dependency and parental perception of the quality of family interactions. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted to explore parents' experiences and perceptions of how obsessive love for cell phones affects their relationship with their children. The results revealed the possible negative effects of this obsession, such as emotional disconnection, decreased effective communication, and reduced family involvement. Consequences for children were also identified, such as a feeling of lack of attention and a lesser connection with their parents. This study highlights the importance of establishing a healthy balance between cell phone use and attention to family relationships. The findings conclude a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with an obsessive love of mobile devices and offer a foundation for developing strategies and practices that promote healthy technology use and richer, more connected family relationships.In summary, this study examines the impact of obsessive cell phone love on family relationships, highlighting the need for mindful, mindful attention to family interactions in an increasingly digital environment

Longitudinal associations between the quality of family interactions and school-age children's narrative abilities in the context of financial insecurity.

This longitudinal study investigates whether the quality of family interactions at 3-5 years of age predicts narrative abilities in 7-9-year-old children from socioeconomically disadvantaged families. The sample consists of 67 children and their parents receiving social welfare. Family interactions were filmed during mealtime at home and coded using the Mealtime Interaction Coding System. Children's narrative abilities were measured based on their capacity to coherently elaborate and resolve stories from the Attachment Story Completion Task. Results revealed that children exposed to family interactions of higher quality make their narratives more accessible and understandable and include more appropriate expression of affects in their stories 4 years later, even after accounting for maternal education and verbal abilities. The results of this study highlight the importance of considering family interactions in the context of financial insecurity when studying socioemotional competence in childhood.

Household chaos and mother-adolescent communication.

Household chaos creates unpredictability and stress in families' lives compromising the quality of family interaction and communication. This study examined how mother and adolescent perceptions of daily household chaos relate to adolescent disclosure of information to mothers. We also explored indirect effects through mother and adolescent responsiveness. Participants included 109 mother-adolescent dyads who completed a 7-day diary study (adolescent age 14-18 years, 49% female, 38% White, 25% Asian, 17% Hispanic, 7% Black, 13% multiple/other ethnicities). Multilevel models revealed that on days when adolescents reported more household chaos than usual, they were more likely to disclose information to their mothers. On days when mothers and adolescents perceived more household chaos, they perceived their relationship partner as less responsive, and on days when mothers and adolescents perceived less responsiveness from their relationship partner, they reported less adolescent disclosure. There was a significant indirect effect among mothers' reports at the daily level, such that on days when mothers reported more household chaos than usual, they reported their adolescents as less responsive, and in turn, as disclosing less information to them. Averages across the week showed that mothers who reported higher average levels of household chaos compared to other families reported less adolescent disclosure. Mothers and adolescents who reported more household chaos compared to other families perceived their relationship partner as less responsive, and less adolescent responsiveness predicted less adolescent-reported and mother-reported adolescent disclosure on average compared to other families. The Family Caregiving Environment Associates with Adolescent Patients’ Severity of Eating Disorder and Interpersonal Problems: A Cross-Sectional Study

The quality of family interactions may be a critical factor for restrictive eating disorders (REDs). Adolescent patients with RED have interpersonal problems that can be inferred by observing their behaviours during family interactions. To date, the assessment of the association among RED severity, interpersonal problems, and patients' interactive behaviours in the family is partially explored. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore how adolescent patients' interactive behaviours observed during the Lausanne Trilogue Play-clinical version (LTPc) were associated with both RED severity and interpersonal problems. Sixty adolescent patients completed the EDI-3 questionnaire to assess RED severity using the Eating Disorder Risk Composite (EDRC) and Interpersonal Problems Composite (IPC) subscales. Moreover, patients and their parents took part in the LTPc, and patients' interactive behaviours were coded as participation, organization, focal attention, and affective contact in all the LTPc four phases. A significant association emerged between patients' interactive behaviours during the LTPc triadic phase and both EDRC and IPC. Better patients' organization and affective contact significantly correlated with lower RED severity and fewer interpersonal problems. These findings suggest that investigating the quality of family relationships and patients' interactive behaviours may contribute to better identifying adolescent patients at risk for more severe conditions.

Predictive factors of disordered eating among adolescents in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Due to excessive concerns and focus on weight control and body shape, adolescents often resort to inappropriate behaviours and attitudes towards eating, resulting in physical and psychological issues. This study aimed to assess possible relationships and predictor variables between disordered eating and age, BMI, body appreciation, self-esteem, quality of family interactions, psychosocial health and childhood trauma experience in adolescents of both sexes in the city of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina). A cross-sectional study was carried out on a suitable sample of 724 high-school students aged 14-19 years. The following tools have been used: socio-demographic questionnaire, The Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), Body Mass Index (BMI), Body Appreciation Scale (BAS), Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale, Quality of Family Interaction Scale (KOBI), and Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory, version 4.0 (PedsQLTM) and Childhood trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). Collected data were analyzed in SPSS v. 20.0 software using Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Body appreciation is the most significant predictor for developing disordered eating across the entire sample of adolescents (β = -0.325, P < 0.05) and individually for male adolescents (β = -0.199, P = 0.010) and female adolescents (β = -0.379, P < 0.001). In addition to this variable, BMI has proved to be a statistically significant predictor in explaining the eating behaviours of female adolescents (β = 0.185, P < 0.001), while this happens to be self-esteem for male adolescents (β = -0.211, P < 0.022). The most significant risk factors for developing disordered eating in adolescents are body appreciation, BMI and self-esteem. Results of this research can contribute to enhancement of intervention programmes which promote a positive body image and aim to prevent disordered eating in adolescents of both sexes.

KVALITET PORODIČNIH INTERAKCIJA KAO PREDIKTOR SAMOEFIKASNOSTI I ŠKOLSKOG USPEHA ADOLESCENATA

The main goal of the research was to check whether the dimensions of the quality of family interactions are statistically significant predictors of adolescents’ self-efficacy and school success. The sample was convenient and consisted of 187 adult adolescents (102 boys and 85 girls). The Quality of Family Interactions Scale and Self-efficacy Questionnaire for Children were used.The results of the multiple regression analysis indicate that the quality of family interactions is a significant predictor of adolescents’ social self-efficacy, explaining 46% of the variance of this criterion variable (R2 = .46; F(5, 181) = 30.33; p ˂ .001), with the dimension of paternal acceptance showing statistical significance with a positive direction of the β coefficient (β = .48; p ˂ .001). The model in which dimensions of family interactions are predictors of emotional self- efficacy is statistically significant and explains 40% of the variance of this criterion variable (R2 = .40; F(5, 181) = 23.70; p ˂ .001). Significant predictive power is shown by the dimensions of paternal acceptance (β=.45; p=.00) and maternal acceptance (β = .28; p ˂ .05), both dimensions with a positive direction of the β coefficient. In relation to academic self-efficacy, the model made up of dimensions of family interactions is statistically significant and explains 51% of the variance of this variable (R2 = .51; F(5, 181) = 37.47; p ˂ .001), with the dimension of maternal acceptance being the only significant predictor with positive direction of the β coefficient (β = 42; p ˂ .001). When it comes to predicting school success, the family interaction dimensions model is statistically significant (R2 = .25; F(5, 181) = 12.09; p ˂ .001). Predictive potential is shown by the dimensions of paternal acceptance (β = .43; p ˂ .001) and maternal acceptance (β = .44; p ˂ .001), both dimensions with a positive direction of the β coefficient. The dimension of paternal rejection proved to be a significant predictor, but with a negative direction of the β coefficient (β = -.43; p ˂ .001). The main conclusion of the research is that the experience of parental acceptance significantly contributes to adolescents’ self-efficacy and school achievements. The Role of Family Function and Triadic Interaction on Preterm Child Development-A Systematic Review.

Preterm infants are at high risk of developmental disability/delay and are more dependent on their caregiving environment for regulation due to their neurological immaturity. A premature birth is also a major stressor to the family system that constitutes the infant's caregiving environment. The following systematic review investigates whether families with preterm children differ from families with full-term children in their interactions, and what impact the quality of family interaction has on child development. Using the Cochrane model, we conducted a systematic review of quantitative studies published in psycINFO, socINDEX, and PubMed, concerning family quality in triadic interactions in families with premature infants and children, and at least one child development outcome variable. The quality of these studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale assessment form for cohort studies (NOS). Eleven studies were included in the review. Quality of family interactions is either equal to or poorer in families with preterm children, compared with families with full-term children. Importantly, the link between quality of family interactions and child development outcome is stronger in preterm children compared with full-term children, regarding both positive and negative influence. Our results highlight the importance of strengthening family interactions in order to promote development in preterm children. Notably, this review provides the first systematic overview of family function and the quality of triadic interactions in preterm families. The limited number of studies with a family-system focus makes it difficult for us to draw any definitive conclusions, while underscoring the need for more observational studies, particularly post-infancy, to be able to identify specific aspects of family interactions that may be critical for preterm child development.

Marital satisfaction, parenting stress, and family alliance: Parental perspective taking as a moderator.

Research has shown that family alliance (FA), operationalized as the quality of mother-father-child triadic interactions, is important for child socioemotional development. However, few studies have investigated the predictors of FA, and there are few longitudinal studies available. Accordingly, this study first examined whether mothers' and fathers' marital satisfaction and parenting stress during infancy predicted FA five years later, when their children entered kindergarten. Second, the moderating role of both parents' perspective-taking capacity as a moderator of these longitudinal associations was examined. The study was conducted with 113 intact families (mother-father-child). Marital satisfaction, parenting stress, and perspective taking were reported by both parents and FA was assessed by observation. Contrary to expectations, neither parent's marital satisfaction or parenting stress was directly related to family alliance. However, significant moderating effects were found for both parents' perspective taking, such that higher paternal and maternal parenting stress predicted poorer FA only among parents with relatively lower perspective-taking capacities. These findings suggest that some aspects of the quality of family interactions when children enter school can be predicted by mothers' and fathers' personal dispositions assessed as early as five years prior.

Psychopathological and Interactive-Relational Characteristics in Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Adolescent Outpatients.

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is described as behaviors that directly and intentionally inflict damage to body tissue without suicidal intent and for reasons not linked to cultural expectations or norms. Literature has confirmed several “specific risk factors” related to NSSI behaviors; emotional reactivity, internalizing problems, alexithymia traits, and maladaptive family functioning can predispose an individual to intrapersonal and interpersonal vulnerabilities related to difficulties in regulating one’s own cognitive-emotional experience. The present study aims to analyze and define the psychopathological and family interactive-relational characteristics of adolescents with NSSI through a case-control study. Thirty-one patients with NSSI and thirty-one patients without NSSI paired for sex, age, and psychiatric diagnosis (ICD-10) were recruited in Padua among two Child Neuropsychiatry Units before the COVID-19 pandemic. Results show a higher prevalence of internalizing problems, alexithymia trait related to “difficulty identifying feelings”, and lower quality of family functioning related to inclusion of partners, child involvement, and child self-regulation. These results carry significant implications for the clinical management and therapeutic care of non-suicidal self-injury patients and further confirm the need for an in-depth investigation of internalizing problems, alexithymia, and quality of family interactions.

Reciprocal influences between marital quality, parenting stress, and parental depression in Chinese families of children with oppositional defiant disorder symptoms

An increasing body of research showed families with ODD children struggle with impaired quality of family interactions, such as low marital quality and high parenting stress. Yet relatively little is known about their interplay in families of children with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) symptoms. To examine longitudinal, reciprocal associations, we utilize a three-year, cross-lagged design with a sample of 340 Chinese families of children with ODD symptoms. We also examined the role of parental depression. Marital quality, parenting stress, and parental depression were measured at each wave (T1, T2, and T3) across three years. Results support the “spillover” hypothesis in both directions, such that parenting stress significantly and directly predicts low marital quality, and impaired marital quality predicts parenting stress largely through parental depression. Our findings clearly evidenced the reciprocal relationship between marital and parent-child relationship, and further revealed two different processes for their interplays, among families of children with ODD symptoms. The present study extended the prior understanding of associations between marital and parent-child subsystems and provided suggestions for enhancing the quality of whole family life for families of children with ODD symptoms.

Daily associations between family interaction quality, stress, and objective sleep in adolescents

ObjectiveTo better understand the short-term impact of family interactions on adolescent sleep, this study examined daily associations between family interaction quality and sleep duration, sleep maintenance efficiency, and subjective sleep quality. MethodsParticipants were 517 diverse youth (Mage = 15.4 years, Range = 15-18) in the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study who completed daily reports of family interaction quality, mood and subjective sleep quality and provided actigraphy-based estimates of sleep duration and sleep maintenance efficiency. ResultsFollowing days when youth reported that they got along with their parents, they slept 26 minutes (95% CI [2.93, 49.88]) longer. Youth who reported greater quality interactions with other family members on average had longer sleep duration, and youth who reported higher levels of family stress perceived lower sleep quality. ConclusionsFindings highlight the importance of considering daily family life, including the quality of brief family interactions, as an entry point for future sleep interventions for adolescents.

Developmental Trajectories of Adult Romantic Attachment: Assessing the Influence of Observed Interactions With Family of Origin

The present study evaluates longitudinal trajectories of adult romantic attachment during adulthood using latent growth curve modeling. We also tested how observed family interactions were related to trajectories of attachment-related anxiety and avoidance from ages 25 to 31 years (on average). Stability coefficients for attachment variables across 6 years were around .50. Growth modeling results suggested that people tend to become less anxious as they mature into adulthood and that there were individual differences in changes during this period. Although family interaction quality in the adolescent years predicted levels of romantic attachment anxiety and avoidance in young adulthood, this association did not extend to changes in attachment between the ages of 25–31 years. Overall, it seems that attachment variables demonstrate some degree of consistency over time even as the average trend is for declines in anxiety. Moreover, adolescent interactions with parents were not strong predictors of changes in attachment during adulthood. This is consistent with the view that family relationships during adolescence are associated more strongly with the stable components of attachment rather than dynamic aspects in adulthood.

Infant attachment configurations with mothers and fathers: Implications for triadic interaction quality and children's parental preferences

Positive and cohesive mother-father-child triadic interactions have substantial benefits for socio-emotional growth in early childhood. Nonetheless, the joint contributions of infant-mother and infant-father attachment relationships to triadic interaction quality are not well understood. The present study examined associations between attachment configurations with mother and father in infancy (i.e., double secure, double insecure, or discordant) and observed triadic interaction quality in early childhood, as well as the possible mediating role of children's preferences for one parent over the other during the triadic interaction. Infant-mother and infant-father attachment quality were assessed in laboratory procedures at one year of age in a predominantly White and middle-class sample (N = 67) of American families. Triadic family interaction quality and children's parental preferences were assessed from semi-structured observations at age 3. Results indicated that double secure families exhibited significantly better triadic interaction quality than both double insecure and discordant families, with no differences between the latter two groups. Children in discordant families were disproportionately likely to show a preference for one parent over the other. In turn, stronger parental preferences were related to less cohesive, less affectively positive, and more disengaged triadic interactions, and mediated links from attachment discordance to both lower cohesiveness and greater disengagement. Findings speak to the importance of incorporating observational assessments of dyadic and triadic family interactions involving both mothers and fathers to elucidate family system influences on early development.

Linking Foster Family Characteristics and Mental Health Symptoms of Youth in Care

Youth in foster care are disproportionately at risk for developing internalizing and externalizing problems (Lawrence et al., 2006); however, a history of maltreatment prior to foster care placement does not automatically result in poor mental health outcomes. Among non-foster care youth, the quality of family interactions has been related to adjustment outcomes, such that low family cohesion and high family conflict is associated with poor mental health symptoms (Caples & Barrera, 2006). While little is known about these constructs in foster care placements, they may help explain the variance in internalizing and externalizing problems for youth in foster care. The present study aimed to examine whether characteristics of the foster care environment (i.e., conflict, cohesion) across various placement types (i.e., traditional foster homes, group-care settings) could help explain the link between previous maltreatment exposure and mental health problems. The sample included 178 youth in foster care (Mage = 15.18, SD = 1.76) and their foster caregivers living in the Midwest. Youth participants completed self-report measures about prior maltreatment history, current family environment characteristics, and youth internalizing symptoms. Foster caregivers completed measures on current family environment and youth externalizing symptoms. Results indicated that caregiver report, but not youth report, of family cohesion was negatively associated with youth report of internalizing problems. When examining the indirect effects, youth report of family conflict partially accounted for the link between youth self-report of maltreatment and internalizing symptoms (B = 0.106, 95% CI = 0.026–0.186). Caregiver report of family conflict fully accounted for the association between youth self-report of maltreatment and caregiver report of youths’ externalizing symptoms (B = 0.108, 95% CI = 0.005–0.211). Findings highlight the importance of utilizing multiple informants when measuring foster family environment and suggest that family conflict is particularly salient for the mental health of youth in foster care.

Perfectionism and Family Interactions As Determinants of Somatization in Adolescents

The overall goal of this study was to examine vulnerability factors for the occurrence and development of somatization in adolescents. A review of the literature in the field of family relations and perfectionism indicates that these are dimensions that are related to somatization in children and adolescents, but also in adults. The research was conducted on students from two primary and two secondary schools in Mostar (N = 600). The average age of the participants is M = 14.5 (SD = 1.77). The following measuring instruments were applied: Sociodemographic Features Questionnaire; Perfectionism Scale for Children and Adolescents (Flett, Hewitt, Boucher, Davidson, &amp; Munro 2000); Adaptive/maladaptive perfectionism scale (Rice and Preusser 2002); Scale of quality of family interactions (KOBI; Vulić-Prtorić 2004) and Scale of somatic symptoms of anxiety (SOMA; Vulić-Prtorić 1999). The results of multiple regression analyses indicate the importance of the contribution of the dimensions of perfectionism and family relations in explaining somatization in adolescents. The structure of the predictors is different, depending on the gender of the participants.
