What Questions Do Patients Ask About Biologic Therapies for Chronic Sinusitis With Nasal Polyps?

Objective: The objective of this study is to explore the questions commonly asked online about biologic therapies for use in treatment of chronic sinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and the quality of the available content. Methods: Most common search terms were identified via Google Trends. People Also Ask (PAA) questions were identified and extracted with their associated website using an online data-scraping program [Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Minion, Keywords Everywhere]. Sources were evaluated using Flesch Kincaid Grade Level (FKGL) and Flesch Reading Ease (FRE, higher number = better) score for readability; Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) Benchmark criteria for quality assessment (0-4, 4 = all criteria met). Results: A total of 143 unique PAA questions and unique websites were identified. Questions were organized into 3 categories: questions about biologic therapies overall (38.46%), about CRSwNP (37.76%), and about treatment options for CRSwNP (23.78%). Websites answering PAA questions were from commercial (60.14%), medical practice (13.99%), academic (13.29%), and government (12.59%) sources. FKGL scores found the average reading level to be at approximately a 12th grade level (SD = 3.297) alongside a low reading ease FRE score of 37.6 (SD = 16.77). Mean JAMA criteria scores were 0.9895 (SD = 0.848), indicating largely low-quality materials. Conclusion: Biologic therapies are a novel treatment option for CRSwNP, and participants are seeking more information about these treatments and disease state. Online resources regarding biologics should be presented at a lower reading level. Sources with evidence-based information are needed. Physicians should be aware of these limitations in online material and counsel accordingly by curating and directing patients to good sources.Level of Evidence: Step 4.

Artificial Intelligence Tools and Bias in Journalism-related Content Generation: Comparison Between Chat GPT-3.5, GPT-4 and Bing

This study explores the biases present in artificial intelligence (AI) tools, focusing on GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and Bing. The performance of the tools has been compared with a group of experts in linguistics, and journalists specialized in breaking news and international affairs. It reveals that GPT-3.5, widely accessible and free, exhibits a higher tendency rate in its word generation, suggesting an intrinsic bias within the tool itself rather than in the input data. Comparatively, GPT-4 and Bing demonstrate differing patterns in term generation and subjectivity, with GPT-4 aligning more closely with expert opinions and producing fewer opinative words. The research highlights the extensive use of generative AI in media and among the general populace, emphasizing the need for careful reliance on AI-generated content. The findings stress the risks of misinformation and biased reporting inherent in unexamined AI outputs. The challenge for journalists and information professionals is to ensure accuracy and ethical judgment in content creation to maintain the quality and diversity of content in journalistic practices.

YouTube as a source of education in perioperative anesthesia for patients and trainees: a systematic review.

Online video sharing platforms like YouTube (Google LLC, San Bruno, CA, USA) have become a substantial source of health information. We sought to conduct a systematic review of studies assessing the overall quality of perioperative anesthesia videos on YouTube. We searched Embase, MEDLINE, and Ovid for articles published from database inception to 1 May 2023. We included primary studies evaluating YouTube videos as a source of information regarding perioperative anesthesia. We excluded studies not published in English and studies assessing acute or chronic pain. Studies were screened and data were extracted in duplicate by two reviewers. We appraised the quality of studies according to the social media framework published in the literature. We used descriptive statistics to report the results using mean, standard deviation, range, and n/total N (%). Among 8,908 citations, we identified 14 studies that examined 796 videos with 59.7hr of content and 47.5 million views. Among the 14 studies that evaluated the video content quality, 17 different quality assessment tools were used, only three of which were externally validated (Global Quality Score, modified DISCERN score, and JAMA score). Per global assessment rating of video quality, 11/13 (85%) studies concluded the overall video quality as poor. Overall, the educational content quality of YouTube videos evaluated in the literature accessible as an educational resource regarding perioperative anesthesia was poor. While these videos are in demand, their impact on patient and trainee education remains unclear. A standardized methodology for evaluating online videos is merited to improve future reporting. Evaluating the reliability and quality of YouTube videos regarding medial collateral ligament knee injury as a patient education resource

ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to assess the educational reliability and quality of videos shared on YouTube regarding medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries of the knee. MethodsUsing the search keywords “medial collateral ligament” on YouTube, the first 50 videos were evaluated by two independent reviewers. Video characteristics were extracted, and each video was categorized by upload source and content type. Three scoring systems were used to evaluate the videos: the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Benchmark Score to assess a video's reliability; the Global Quality Score (GQS) to assess educational quality; the novel MCL Specific Score (MCL-SS) to assess MCL-specific content quality. Linear regression analyses were conducted to explore relationships between video characteristics and scores. ResultsCollectively, the videos were viewed 5,759,427 times with a mean number of views per video of 115,189 ​± ​177,861. The mean JAMA score was 1.8, GQS was 2.1, and MCL-SS was 5.6, indicating both poor reliability and quality. Only videos uploaded by physicians showed a statistically significantly higher mean MCL-SS (P ​= ​0.032) but were still of low quality with a mean MCL-SS of 9.2 ​± ​5.9. Multivariate linear regression revealed that videos uploaded by physicians were statistically significant predictors of greater MCL-SS (β ​= ​4.108; P ​= ​0.029). Longer video durations were statistically significant predictors of greater GQS (β ​= ​0.001; P ​= ​0.002) and MCL-SS (β ​= ​0.007; P ​< ​0.001). ConclusionsYouTube videos regarding MCL injuries, despite their popularity, were found to be on average having poor overall reliability and quality as measured by JAMA, GQS and MCL-SS. Learning to Persuade on the Fly: Robustness Against Ignorance

How Can Platforms Learn to Make Persuasive Recommendations? Many online platforms make recommendations to users on content from creators or products from sellers. The motivation underlying such recommendations is to persuade users into taking actions that also serve system-wide goals. To do this effectively, a platform needs to know the underlying distribution of payoff-relevant variables (such as content or product quality). However, this distributional information is often lacking—for example, when new content creators or sellers join a platform. In “Learning to Persuade on the Fly: Robustness Against Ignorance,” Zu, Iyer, and Xu study how a platform can make persuasive recommendations over time in the absence of distributional knowledge using a learning-based approach. They first propose and motivate a robust-persuasiveness criterion for settings with incomplete information. They then design an efficient recommendation algorithm that satisfies this criterion and achieves low regret compared with the benchmark of complete distributional knowledge. Overall, by relaxing the strong assumption of complete distributional knowledge, this research extends the applicability of information design to more practical settings.

Is YouTube a Sufficient and Reliable Source to Inform Patients About Cardiac Rehabilitation?: A Cross-sectional Study.

There is a growing concern surrounding the utility of medical content on social media. In this study, the popularity metrics and content quality of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) videos on YouTube regarding patient education were examined. Using the search key word "cardiac rehabilitation," we analyzed the 50 most relevant videos. Our video popularity analytics encompassed viewing rate, such as ratio, number of comments, and the video power index (VPI). We assessed content quality using the Global Quality Scale (GQS), the modified DISCERN questionnaire, Journal of the American Medical Association ( JAMA ) benchmark criteria, Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool for Audio/Visual Materials (PEMAT-A/V), and a novel tool, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Specific Scale (CRSS). Notably, 78% of the videos were uploaded by medical organizations. The average viewing rate was 4.6 views per day. There were positive correlations between the scores from different content quality scales. Median scores for the GQS, the modified DISCERN questionnaire, JAMA benchmark criteria, and the CRSS were 3, 3.5, 2, and 5, respectively. Mean PEMAT-A/V scores were 60.4% for understandability and 38.3% for actionability. Videos published by entities other than medical centers predicted lower CRSS and GQS scores. High JAMA benchmark criteria scores were negative predictors of VPI, view rate, and number of comments. Our findings suggest that CR-related videos on YouTube are characterized by low popularity, average content quality and understandability, but a lack of reliability and actionability. To ensure individuals seek accurate CR information on social media platforms, we recommend directing them to videos uploaded by medical centers.

An Effective Investigation for Quality of Service Enhancement of Content Delivery Network for HTTP Live Streaming Using H.265

In the contemporary era, the prevailing trend among individuals is the widespread utilization of streaming technology to indulge in audio or video content emanating from a server. This innovative approach negates the necessity for downloading the content beforehand, allowing users to seamlessly revel in the material through the streaming mechanism. However, this cutting-edge technology mandates a substantial bandwidth to uphold its Quality of Service (QoS) at an optimal level. Challenges may arise, such as packet loss, attributed to the restricted bandwidth provided by the network service provider, thereby compromising the delivered content’s quality. To address this issue, one viable solution is the integration of CDN (Content Delivery Network), a technology proven to enhance the quality of content delivered through streaming services. This research endeavors to elevate the quality of live video streaming by leveraging CDN. The HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) format for content streaming, the study empirically demonstrates that CDN significantly improves the Quality of Service. As a result, the proposed method Content Delivery Network (CDN) using H.265 plays vital role in live video streaming. The result shows that live video streaming with CDN outperforms without CDN. Specifically, the live video streaming experience with CDN showcases a remarkable throughput average of 5899.7 kbps, coupled with a minimal packet loss ratio average of 0.05%. This stands in stark contrast to the version without CDN, which exhibits a comparatively diminished throughput average of 5287.3 kbps and a higher packet loss ratio average of 0.22%. These empirical findings strongly emphasize the effectiveness of CDN in elevating the Quality of Service for live video streaming. The tangible enhancements in throughput and the reduction of packet loss achieved through CDN implementationcontribute significantly to an enriched user experience. The evidence supports the notion that integrating CDN technology not only optimizes the technical performance of live video streaming but also plays a pivotal role in enhancing the overall satisfaction and engagement of users with the content delivery system.

Assessing the relationship between anxiety and the adoption of Artificial Intelligence tools among mathematics preservice teachers

Many revelations have been made about the revolution that artificial intelligence (AI) has brought to the education sector, including the opening of opportunities for personalised instruction, boosting the quality of content developed by teachers while preparing for lessons, and improving the quality of classroom evaluations. Despite the many benefits of AI adoption, there have been concerns and apprehensions about its use in the educational sector. A survey was conducted to investigate the relationship between AI anxiety and the adoption of artificial intelligence tools among mathematics preservice teachers who are university undergraduates studying mathematics education in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The study sample consisted of 129 mathematics preservice teachers selected through purposive sampling. The AI anxiety scale and AI adoption scale were used for data collection after being tested for reliability. The data collected through the scales were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study revealed that the mathematics preservice teachers had a high level of AI anxiety and adopted AI at a moderate level. The study further showed that there is a significant weak relationship between mathematics preservice teachers' AI-Anxiety and AI adoption. Also, there is no significant gender difference in mathematics preservice teachers' AI anxiety and AI adoption. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that teacher education programs include AI and digital literacy in the curriculum to prepare students for the seamless integration of AI. Additionally, targeted interventions should be implemented to reduce the anxiety exhibited by preservice teachers.

Optimized liquid fertilizer management increases 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline content and grain quality in aromatic rice

This study examined the effects of liquid fertilizer management on the aroma, grain quality, nutrient status, and antioxidant response of the aromatic rice varieties Yuxiangyouzhan (YXYZ) and Xiangyaxiangzhan (XYXZ) in field trials in 2019 and 2020. The application of liquid fertilizer management treatments augmented the 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP) contents. The liquid fertilizer management treatments increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes in the leaves and the contents of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) in different plant tissues, enhanced the protein content, and reduced the chalkiness in the grains. The accumulation of 2AP responded positively to the modulation of nutrient content, antioxidant response parameters, grain quality, and attributes related to the biosynthesis of 2AP. Application of 90–45–7.5 kg N ha−1 liquid fertilizer when the basal-tillering-panicle splits was the most effective fertilization treatment in improving the contents of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline with the highest average 2AP content of 124.34 μg kg−1, which can be attributed to the regulating of grain quality, nutrient content, antioxidant response, and attributes related to 2AP biosynthesis.

Effect of intercropping and biochar amendments on lead removal capacity by Corchorus olitorius and Zea mays.

Intercropping is a sustainable strategy recognized for boosting crop production and mitigating heavy metal toxicity in contaminated soils. This study investigates the effects of biochar amendments on Pb-contaminated soil, utilizing monocropping and intercropping techniques with C. olitorius and Z. mays. The research assesses Pb removal capacity, nutrient uptake, antioxidant enzymes, and soil Pb fractionation. In monocropping, the phytoremediation ratio for C. olitorius increased from 16.67 to 27.33%, while in intercropping, it rose from 19.00 to 28.33% with biochar amendments. Similarly, Z. mays exhibited an increased phytoremediation ratio from 53.33 to 74.67% in monocropping and from 63.00 to 78.67% in intercropping with biochar amendments. Intercropping significantly increased the peroxidase (POD) activity in Z. mays roots by 22.53%, and there were notable increases in shoot POD of C. olitorius (11.54%) and Z. mays (16.20%) with biochar application. CAT showed consistent improvements, increasing by 37.52% in C. olitorius roots and 74.49% in Z. mays roots with biochar. Biochar amendments significantly increased N content in soil under sole cropping of Z. mays and intercropping systems. In contrast, Cu content increased by 56.34%, 59.05%, and 79.80% in monocropping (C. olitorius and Z. mays) and intercropping systems, respectively. This suggests that biochar enhances nutrient availability, improving phytoremediation efficacy in Pb-contaminated soil. Phyto availability of trace metals (Zn, Mn, Cu, and Fe) exhibited higher levels with biochar amendments than those without. The findings indicate that intercropping and biochar amendments elevate antioxidant enzyme levels, reducing reactive oxygen species and mitigating Pb toxicity effects. This approach improves phytoremediation efficiency and holds promise for soil pollution remediation while enhancing nutrient content and crop quality in Pb-contaminated soil.

Evaluation of anthocyanin-enriched wheat varieties (black, blue, purple) for enhanced antioxidant content and premium biscuit quality

The anthocyanin-enriched wheat varieties were explored for their health benefits and development of antioxidant-rich biscuits. In the present study, around 35 advanced lines, showcasing different colors (7 white, 9 purple, 11 black, 8 blue), and robust yield potential under local climatic conditions were selected. The wheat lines were screened for yield, grain hardness, protein, dough quality, biscuit baking and sensory quality attributes. The two advanced black wheat lines (black-1 and black-6) showed low grain hardness indices (49.8 and 32.4) and protein content (9.1 and 8.2%). The dough obtained from these wheat lines exhibited excellent parameters including low hardness and high springiness. The black-1 (soft texture) and black-6 (very soft texture) lines exhibited superior biscuit-making quality with a high spread ratio (13.2 and 14), mirroring the positive controls {white-6 (vs)-15}, and surpassing the average (8.9) and negative controls {white-C3 (7.7) and white-C4 (8.4)}. Despite a reduction in anthocyanin content during baking, both lines demonstrated a 1.3-fold higher antioxidant activity compared to the control. These black wheat lines present significant potential for commercialization, offering an avenue to enhance the quality and nutritional profile of biscuits in the food industry.

The influence of GenAI on the effectiveness of argumentative writing in higher education: evidence from a quasi-experimental study in China

ABSTRACT The revolutionary development of generative artificial intelligence, especially large language model (LLM) chatbots like ChatGPT, has brought disruptive changes to society, especially in the field of higher education, particularly in the domain of writing. Prior studies have primarily examined the opportunities and challenges that LLM Chatbots bring to higher education writing from a theoretical perspective. However, empirical studies on how to effectively and responsibly integrate LLM Chatbots into writing learning and evaluate their effectiveness are still limited. To address this gap, the present study introduces a learning approach termed LLM-powered Chatbot-assisted argumentative writing (LCAW) to support the cultivation of university students’ writing abilities. A total of 61 Chinese university students from two classes were invited to participate in a quasi-experimental study with different learning methods as intervention measures, and student perceptions were gathered through interviews. The results show that the proposed LCAW method significantly improves students’ writing performance in terms of content quality and language expression, and positively impacts in providing personalized feedback and enhancing writing motivation. This study contributes by proposing an effective method for integrating generative AI into higher education writing instruction and by offering insights for curriculum design policies to enhance higher writing education through GenAI.

WhatsApp groups: the Nexus between retention, reciprocity, and user satisfaction

High dropout rates in higher education pose a significant challenge, prompting a need for effective retention strategies. Research shows promoting students’ engagement as key factor in retention. This is most effectively nurtured through regular activities that explicitly connect to academic goals and involve all students. This study proposes to investigate the role of reciprocity which involves the exchange of knowledge and resources on the basis of mutual benefits, and considers WhatsApp groups as an interactive medium for connecting and sharing. Data from an online questionnaire of 309 university students was used to test the research model. Data analysis was performed using the partial least squares method. The findings revealed that that information quality (IQ) and service quality (SERQ) exert a positive influence on satisfaction (SAT), while system quality (SQ) does not. Similarly, reciprocity has a positive influence on both SAT and intention to stay (INTENT). Moreover, our study reaffirmed the established positive relationship between SAT and INTENT. Online platforms like WhatsApp groups, supported by reciprocity and a higher quality of contents and services, can promote satisfaction and knowledge sharing among students, ultimately addressing the challenge of student retention in higher education.

Smartphone-Based Survey and Message Compliance in Adults Initially Unready to Quit Smoking: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial.

Efficacy of smartphone-based interventions depends on intervention content quality and level of exposure to that content. Smartphone-based survey completion rates tend to decline over time; however, few studies have identified variables that predict this decline over longer-term interventions (eg, 26 weeks). This study aims to identify predictors of survey completion and message viewing over time within a 26-week smoking cessation trial. This study examined data from a 3-group pilot randomized controlled trial of adults who smoke (N=152) and were not ready to quit smoking within the next 30 days. For 182 days, two intervention groups received smartphone-based morning and evening messages based on current readiness to quit smoking. The control group received 2 daily messages unrelated to smoking. All participants were prompted to complete 26 weekly smartphone-based surveys that assessed smoking behavior, quit attempts, and readiness to quit. Compliance was operationalized as percentages of weekly surveys completed and daily messages viewed. Linear regression and mixed-effects models were used to identify predictors (eg, intervention group, age, and sex) of weekly survey completion and daily message viewing and decline in compliance over time. The sample (mean age 50, SD 12.5, range 19-75 years; mean years of education 13.3, SD 1.6, range 10-20 years) was 67.8% (n=103) female, 74.3% (n=113) White, 77% (n=117) urban, and 52.6% (n=80) unemployed, and 61.2% (n=93) had mental health diagnoses. On average, participants completed 18.3 (71.8%) out of 25.5 prompted weekly surveys and viewed 207.3 (60.6%) out of 345.1 presented messages (31,503/52,460 total). Age was positively associated with overall weekly survey completion (P=.003) and daily message viewing (P=.02). Mixed-effects models indicated a decline in survey completion from 77% (114/148) in the first week of the intervention to 56% (84/150) in the last week of the intervention (P<.001), which was significantly moderated by age, sex, ethnicity, municipality (ie, rural/urban), and employment status. Similarly, message viewing declined from 72.3% (1533/2120) in the first week of the intervention to 44.6% (868/1946) in the last week of the intervention (P<.001). This decline in message viewing was significantly moderated by age, sex, municipality, employment status, and education. This study demonstrated the feasibility of a 26-week smartphone-based smoking cessation intervention. Study results identified subgroups that displayed accelerated rates in the decline of survey completion and message viewing. Future research should identify ways to maintain high levels of interaction with mobile health interventions that span long intervention periods, especially among subgroups that have demonstrated declining rates of intervention engagement over time. Quality and Readability of Online Educational Mohs Micrographic Surgery Resources.

As internet access continues to expand, online health care information is increasingly influencing patient decisions. Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is commonly used in the field of dermatology but may be unfamiliar to many patients. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze online educational resources regarding MMS and learn how to optimize the understanding and informational content of MMS for patients and their families. Thirty-two websites were evaluated for authorship, quality, and readability using DISCERN, JAMA Benchmark Criteria, and Flesch-Kincaid tests. Physician-authored content showed a trend toward higher quality ( p = .058). Google scored higher in specific DISCERN questions when overlapping websites were excluded. Bing scored higher in JAMA criteria ( p = .03) in criteria such as authorship and currency. Higher DISCERN scores correlated with lower readability. Physician involvement improves content quality, raising questions about physicians' responsibility in online resource creation. Correlations between content quality and readability highlight potential challenges for certain demographics. Balancing medical accuracy with comprehensibility is crucial for equitable patient education. This study underscores the need to refine online resources, ensuring accurate, transparent, and accessible health care information.

Relative Effectiveness Of Reading Activities In The Pakistani ESL Context

The quality of reading determines the quality of both content and language learning. Reading plays a key role in developing advanced grammatical skill and academic vocabulary necessary for creating written discourse and thus raising learners’ level of language proficiency. However, a substantial body of ESL college learners in Pakistan are reported to be struggling for attaining a satisfactory level in reading proficiency. Notably, the scrutiny of underachievement reveals that indiscriminate insistence on GTM and consequent failure to actively engage learners for cognitive development are included in major issues. For addressing these problems, a promising alternative is suggested in Task-Based Learning (activities-based learning). A 40-minute task-based class, 3 days a week, was run for four weeks. The sample comprised 111 students of Intermediate Level. The researcher-created videos on reading activities uploaded on his YouTube channel were watched by the learners.[1] Listening to the recorded lecture was followed by a set of activities in which the participants were engaged before they showed their work in the physical classroom. Subsequently, relative effectiveness of ten prevalent reading activities was studied through written tests. Quantitative data analysis was made by SPSS. Furthermore, qualitative data collected through interviews were analyzed by inductive approach thematic analysis. Mathematical nature of activities, such as Main Idea Formula, Students Created Quizzes &amp; Tests and Cause &amp; Effect Grid made them relatively more effective.

There are good reading sources for Arabic health information about mouth health, but they are usually short and not enough. Also, the language can be difficult to understand and remember. To solve this, health professionals must create information about mouth diseases and make it available online to supplement what they have received during the clinical visits.

In view of the escalating prevalence of this phenomenon, the present research seeks to explore the influence of content quality and brand interactions on consumer brand awareness and purchase intentions in social media. The research incorporates multiple theoretical and empirical sources from prior literatures on influencer marketing and demonstrates that consumers' brand attitudes and purchase intentions are positively influenced by their attitudes towards fashion influencers and comments on social media.

Evaluating the delivery of physical activity for people with developmental disabilities using an online knowledge translation approach: part 2 – content quality

Objective Web-based platforms for delivering physical activity (PA) to people with developmental disabilities have a great potential to improve the lives of many. However, their design, including the content design, lacks sufficient investigation. This study aims to evaluate three online platforms for delivering PA to people with developmental disabilities in terms of content quality and identify relevant barriers and facilitators of PA delivery. Methods The study used a methodological triangulation approach which involved quantitative evaluations by experts using an evaluation rubric, on-site observations and in-depth interviews with recruited participants. The participants consisted of 15 pairs of individuals, each consisting of a person with developmental disabilities and their primary caregiver. They were instructed to watch and follow five PA video content from each of the three platforms. The on-site observations and interviews were conducted in a large computer-equipped meeting room setting. Results The quantitative and qualitative analysis identified a set of barriers and facilitators of PA delivery related to content quality. Key barriers identified include a lack of content diversity, insufficient understanding of developmental disabilities among content creators, inappropriate language usage, and resistance to engaging in physical activities in home settings. Significant facilitators were pinpointed, such as incorporating engaging elements for individuals with developmental disabilities, utilising easy-read language, and ensuring sufficient repetition for effective learning. The results from the triangulation showed that the multiple methods were complementary and converged on the same outcome. Discussion The study findings could contribute to the development of adequately adapted PA content to distribute knowledge to populations with developmental disabilities.
