Circular Production, Designing, and Mechanical Testing of Polypropylene-Based Reinforced Composite Materials: Statistical Analysis for Potential Automotive and Nuclear Applications.

The circularity of polymer waste is an emerging field of research in Europe. In the present research, the thermal, surface, mechanical, and tribological properties of polypropylene (PP)-based composite produced by injection molding were studied. The pure PP matrix was reinforced with 10, 30, and 40% wt. of pure cotton, synthetic polyester, and polyethylene terephthalate post-consumer fibers using a combination of direct extrusion and injection molding techniques. Results indicate that PP-PCPESF-10% wt. exhibits the highest value of tensile strength (29 MPa). However, the values of tensile and flexural strain were lowered with an increase in fiber content due to the presence of micro-defects. Similarly, the values of modulus of elasticity, flexural modulus, flexural strength, and impact energy were enhanced due to an increase in the amount of fiber. The PP-PCCF-40% wt. shows the highest values of flexural constant (2780 MPa) and strength (57 MPa). Additionally, the increase in fiber loadings is directly proportional to the creation of micro-defects, surface roughness, abrasive wear, coefficient of friction, and erosive wear. The lowest average absolute arithmetic surface roughness value (Ra) of PP and PP-PCCF, 10% wt., were 0.19 µm and 0.28 µm. The lowest abrasive wear value of 3.09 × 10-6 mm3/Nm was found for pure PP. The erosive wear value (35 mm3/kg) of PP-PCCF 40% wt. composite material was 2 to 17 times higher than all other composite materials. Finally, the single-step analysis of variance predicts reasonable results in terms of the p-values of each composite material for commercial applications.

Characterization of Thermo-Mechanical and Chemical Properties of Polypropylene/Hemp Fiber Biocomposites: Impact of Maleic Anhydride Compatibilizer and Fiber Content.

This article presents a comprehensive study on the physical, mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties of polypropylene (PP) composites reinforced with hemp fibers (HF) and compatibilized with maleic anhydride (MAPP). The composites were processed using a twin-screw extruder, followed by hot compression at 190 °C. Subsequently, the composites were analyzed using Izod impact and Shore D hardness tests to evaluate their mechanical properties. Thermal properties were investigated through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), while X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were employed to study their chemical properties. Additionally, a statistical analysis was conducted to compare the average results of the impact and hardness tests. XRD analysis revealed that the addition of HF and MAPP led to the disappearance of peaks corresponding to the beta phase in pure PP. Hemp fibers exhibited an impressive crystallinity of 82.10%, surpassing other natural fibers, and had a significant molecular orientation angle (MFA) of 6.06°, making them highly desirable for engineering applications. The crystallite size was observed to be relatively large, at 32.49 nm. FTIR analysis demonstrated strong interactions between the fiber, compatibilizing agent, and polymer matrix. TGA tests showed that the addition of 5 and 10 wt.% MAPP resulted in complete degradation of the composites, similar to pure PP. DSC analyses indicated a reduction in crystallinity (Xc) due to the incorporation of HF and MAPP. Shore D hardness tests revealed an increase in hardness with the addition of 5 wt.% MAPP, while a steep decline in this property was observed with 10 wt.% MAPP. In terms of impact resistance, fractions of 3 and 5 wt.% MAPP in the composites exhibited improved performance compared to the pure polymer. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to ensure the statistical reliability of the mechanical test results. This comprehensive study sheds light on the diverse properties of PP composites reinforced with hemp fibers and compatibilized with MAPP, emphasizing their potential as sustainable materials for engineering applications. The results contribute to the understanding of the structural and functional aspects of these composites, guiding future research and developments in the field.

Influences of TPU Content on the Weld Line Characteristics of PP and ABS Blends.

This study aims to explore the effects of Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) content on the weld line properties of Polypropylene (PP) and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) blends. In PP/TPU blends, increasing the TPU content results in a significant decrease in the PP/TPU composite's ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation values. Blends with 10 wt%, 15 wt%, and 20 wt% TPU and pure PP outperform blends with 10 wt%, 15 wt%, and 20 wt% TPU and recycled PP in terms of UTS value. The blend with 10 wt% TPU and pure PP achieves the highest UTS value of 21.85 MPa. However, the blend's elongation decreases due to the poor bonding in the weld line area. According to Taguchi's analysis, the TPU factor has a more significant overall influence on the mechanical properties of PP/TPU blends than the recycled PP factor. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) results show that the TPU area has a dimple shape on the fracture surface due to its significantly higher elongation value. The 15 wt% TPU sample achieves the highest UTS value of 35.7 MPa in ABS/TPU blends, which is considerably higher than other cases, indicating good compatibility between ABS and TPU. The sample containing 20 wt% TPU has the lowest UTS value of 21.2 MPa. Furthermore, the elongation-changing pattern corresponds to the UTS value. Interestingly, SEM results present that the fracture surface of this blend is flatter than the PP/TPU blend due to a higher compatibility rate. The 30 wt% TPU sample has a higher rate of dimple area than the 10 wt% TPU sample. Moreover, ABS/TPU blends gain a higher UTS value than PP/TPU blends. Increasing the TPU ratio mainly reduces the elastic modulus of both ABS/TPU blends and PP/TPU blends. This study reveals the advantages and disadvantages of mixing TPU with PP or ABS to ensure that it meets the requirements of the intended applications.

Preparation of Waste PP/Fly Ash/Waste Stone Powder Composites and Evaluation of Their Mechanical Properties.

The research was carried out to analyze the combined and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP)/fly ash (FA)/waste stone powder (WSP) composite materials. PP, FA and WSP were mixed and prepared into PP100 (pure PP), PP90 (90 wt% PP + 5 wt% FA + 5 wt% WSP), PP80 (80 wt% PP + 10 wt% FA + 10 wt% WSP), PP70 (70 wt% PP + 15 wt% FA + 15 wt% WSP), PP60 (60 wt% PP + 20 wt% FA + 20 wt% WSP) and PP50 (50 wt% PP + 25 wt% FA + 25 wt% WSP) composite materials using an injection molding machine. The research results indicate that all PP/FA/WSP composite materials can be prepared through the injection molding process and there are no cracks or fractures found on the surface of the composite materials. The research results of thermogravimetric analysis are consistent with expectations, indicating that the preparation method of the composite materials in this study is reliable. Although the addition of FA and WSP powder cannot increase the tensile strength, it is very helpful to improve the bending strength and notched impact energy. Especially for notched impact energy, the addition of FA and WSP results in an increase in the notched impact energy of all PP/FA/WSP composite materials by 14.58-22.22%. This study provides a new direction for the reuse of various waste resources. Moreover, based on the excellent bending strength and notched impact energy, the PP/FA/WSP composite materials have great application potential in the composite plastic industry, artificial stone, floor tiles and other industries in the future.

Analysis of mechanical and thermal properties of polypropylene composite reinforced with Luffa cylindrica

Vegetable fibers have an economic potential to be employed as polymer reinforcement. This is due to their low cost, biodegradability, recyclability, adequate mechanical properties, and because they come from renewable sources. The growing need for alternative materials that meet the demands of various industrial segments (aerospace, mechanics, automobile, petrochemistry, shipping, civil engineering etc) requires detailed investigations on their physical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Detailed information about the behavior of fibers in a polymer matrix can indicate whether they can produce a structural composite. This work investigated the mechanical and thermal properties of polypropylene (PP) samples containing 0%, 10%, and 20% (w/w) Luffa cylindrica fibers, as well as to analyze the morphology of the fibers before and after their processing with the polymer. The mechanical results of the composites showed that those plant fibers reduced the strain of pure PP, increasing its stiffness. Thermogravimetric trials revealed that the composite had its thermal stability reduced with an increase in fiber content.

Corrosion protection mechanisms of graphene oxide-reinforced polypropylene coating for mild carbon steel by advanced molecular dynamics simulations with emphasis on resistance to water and chloride ion penetration

Polypropylene can be used as a raw material for manufacturing corrosion-resistant coatings to protect the surface of the mild carbon steel substrate. To improve the properties of polypropylene (PP), graphene oxide (GO) can be added to the coating. In this research, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were employed to evaluate the effect of GO additives on the PP coating using COMPASS Force-Filed of the Forcite module. The results of molecular modeling, such as mean square displacement (MSD), diffusion coefficient, concentration profile, and gyration radius (Rg), revealed that the permeability of corrosive agents, including water molecules and chloride ions in the composite coating (PP/GO), is much lower than pure one (PP). In addition, by reducing the surface energy from 77 to 68 mJ/m2, the water contact angle (WCA) is improved from 150◦ for the pure PP coating to 170◦ for the composite one. It can also be due to an 18% increase in system compaction in the presence of GO. In the other hand, the free fraction volume (FFV) in the presence of GO is reduced by about 4%. The adhesion of the coating to the mild carbon steel substrate has also been ameliorated by 38% for the PP/GO coating compared to the pure PP. Therefore, most of the simulated parameters reported the positive effects of compositing PP with GO.

Preparation of a cobalt metal-organic framework (Co-MOF) and its application as a polypropylene flame retardant by compounding with melamine polyphosphate

A cobalt metal-organic framework (Co-MOF) was successfully prepared, and its combination with melamine polyphosphate (MPP) was studied to enhance the fire retardant properties of polypropylene (PP) composites. The morphology, composition, and structure of PP/MPP/Co-MOF composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The maximum limiting oxygen index of the PP/MPP/Co-MOF composite was 26.8%, which is 49% higher than that of pure PP and its combustion grade reached the V-0 level. When 2 wt% Co-MOF was added, the carbon residue of the composite reached 19.6 wt%, peak heat release rate was significantly reduced, smoke emission was suppressed, fire growth index was significantly reduced, and the fire risk of the composite was effectively reduced. Analysis of the carbon residue showed that aggregated carbon spheres were present on the carbon residue surface of the composite material supplemented with Co-MOF. The generation of carbon spheres effectively prevented the heat exchange and release of combustible gas during the combustion of the composite material, significantly improving the flame retardancy and stability of the material. As a new material, MOF has great innovation and necessity in researching polymer flame retardant. Moreover, the latest composite materials synthesized in this paper contribute to environmental safety to a great extent.

Enhanced nanomechanical properties of polymer nanocomposites reinforced with surface engineered carbon nanotubes using barium titanate

ABSTRACT This study presents enhanced nanomechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) using surface engineered carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via decoration with barium titanate (BT). The CNTs decorated BT (BT@CNTs) were prepared by hydrothermal and self-assembly approach. The nanoparticles were surface functionalized to enhance dispersion in the PP matrix. The nanocomposites were developed via melt mixing and compression techniques. From the analyses conducted, PP/BT@CNTs nanocomposites showed more uniform microstructures compared to PP/CNTs due to the presence of BT, which assisted CNTs in the dispersion. Although all the nanocomposites revealed higher nanomechanical properties compared to pure PP, it was more pronounced with nanocomposites containing BT@CNTs.

Wollastonite and talc reinforced polypropylene hybrid composites: Mechanical, morphological and thermal properties

This study focused on evaluating the mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of polypropylene (PP) hybrid composites containing two different inorganic mineral fillers, namely wollastonite (WO) and talc. The composites were prepared by melt mixing process using a twin screw extruder and an injection molding machine. All composites contained a constant filler loading at 20 wt% with varying WO/talc weight ratios (20/0, 15/5, 10/10, 5/15, and 0/20). Melt flow index (MFI), mechanical properties (impact strength and tensile properties), heat distortion temperature (HDT) fractured surface morphology, and thermal behaviors of the resulting composites were investigated. The results revealed an enhancement in the MFI, HDT, impact strength, Young’s modulus, crystallization temperature, melting temperature, and degree of crystallinity with a decline in the elongation at break and a small increase in the tensile strength of the composites compared to those of the pure PP. These were according to the lubricating effect (increased flowability), reinforcing effects (increased mechanical properties), barrier properties (increased HDT and melting temperature), and nucleating effect (increased crystallization temperature and crystallinity) of the fillers.

Effect of coupling agents on the olive pomace-filled polypropylene composite

AbstractThe effect of the olive pomace flour (OPF) addition on the mechanical, water uptake, morphological, and thermal properties of polypropylene (PP) with and without the use of two coupling agents was investigated. A higher percentage of a coupling agent yielded a greater impact strength of 141 J/m. Tensile and flexural properties of the OPF/PP composite were improved with the two coupling agents. The addition of OPF to pure PP had reduced these properties, thus proving the utility of the coupling agents. While the addition of the OPF to PP increased the water uptake property by 1.36%, the subsequent addition of a coupling agent decreased it to 0.78%. For the neat PP, the enthalpy of melting (∆Hm= 123 J/g), the enthalpy of crystallization (∆Hc= 133 J/g), and the percent of crystallinity (Xc= 59%) values showed a declining trend down to 91, 103 J/g, and 44%, respectively, when the filler and coupling agents added to the composite. The results of this study demonstrated that the OPF could be used as a viable reinforcement for the PP, providing good mechanical and morphological properties, as long as an appropriate coupling agent proportion is added to the composite.

Effect of Organoclay on the Rheology, Morphology, Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Nanocomposite Fibers Based on Polypropylene/Poly(Trimethylene Terephthalate)/Organoclay

Modification of the rheological and thermal properties of polypropylene (PP) was accomplished through the in-situ generation of PP/poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) nanocomposites fibrils containing organoclay via a melt spinning process. The development of the fibrillar structures in the fibers during the melt spinning and a subsequent hot drawing process was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy; the lowest mean diameter of the nano-fibrils was 74 nm for the hot drawn nanocomposite fibers consisting of 10 wt.% of PTT and 1 wt.% organoclay in the PP. The results of wide-angle X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the presence of the 10 wt.% of PTT and 1 wt.% organoclay in the nanocomposite fibers led to an approximately 16% increase in the crystallinity of the PP, compared to pure PP fibers. The distribution of the organoclay in the nanocomposites was investigated using transmission electron microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering.

Effect of Alkaline Treatment and Coupling Agent on Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Macadamia Nutshell Residues Based PP Composites

The influence of alkaline treatment on the thermal and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) reinforced with fibers from macadamia nutshell (5 to 30 wt%) was studied. To improve the interaction between fiber and matrix, the fibers were submitted to an alkaline treatment, as well as a coupling agent (MAPP) was used. The composites were obtained in a thermokinetic mixer, milled, and injected. Then, the degradation temperature and the loss of mass of the composites, pure PP, and fibers were evaluated. The mechanical properties of the composites were also evaluated. The results indicated that the degradation peak of composites occurred at higher temperatures, which indicated that composite exhibited higher thermal stability at higher temperatures. The addition of raw and treated macadamia fibers to the PP increased the stiffness of the composites, as well as the use of a coupling agent when compared to the neat PP. However, the incorporation of 30 wt% treated fiber to the PP showed an enhancement of 67.5% in the tensile modulus. The morphological analysis enabled to evaluate the efficiency of the coupling agent and the treated fibers adhered to matrix. The response surface methodology (RSM) technique showed that the higher fiber content added to the PP enhanced the stiffness, and consequently reduced the impact strength of the materials.

Synergistic effect of fly ash on hydroxymethylated lignin‐containing flame retardant polypropylene: Flame retardancy and thermal stability

In this study, fly ash (FA) was used as a synergist to enhance the fire resistance of intumescent flame retardant polypropylene containing hydroxymethylated lignin. Effects of fly ash on flame retardancy and thermal stability properties of polypropylene (PP) composites were investigated using a limiting oxygen index (LOI) meter, UL‐94 vertical combustion tester, cone calorimeter, and thermogravimetric analyzer. The results showed that during combustion, incorporation of FA can effectively solve the dripping problem of the PP composites. Addition of 0.5% loading amount fly ash into the PP composite (0.5FA/IFR/PP) enhanced the flame retardancy significantly. Additionally, its LOI value increased from 28% to 33%, and UL‐94 vertical burning passed V‐0 grade from V‐2 rate. Notably, owing to addition of the fly ash, the peak of heat release rate of the pure PP decreased by 58.0%. Moreover, the release of CO2 and CO was largely suppressed, and higher char residue was obtained for 0.5FA/IFR/PP. Fire safety of the PP composites was significantly improved. From the analysis of charring residues, a possible flame retardant mechanism was proposed. That is, incorporation of fly ash increased the formation of a denser and intact char layer, which is important in inhibiting heat and flammable gases generated during combustion of underlined matrix.

Mechanical and thermal characterization of polypropylene-reinforced nanocrystalline cellulose nanocomposites

This article addresses the effect of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) on the mechanical and thermal properties of polypropylene (PP). A new approach was adopted to produce mechanically improved and thermally stable PP-NCC nanocomposite. This approach involved producing optimized PP-NCC nanocomposite by adding NCC nanoparticles to PP matrix at different concentrations by means of injection molding process. The aim of this work was to find the optimum NCC concentration to enhance the mechanical and thermal properties of the PP matrix. The mechanical and thermal behavior of PP-NCC nanocomposite was studied by performing three-point bend, nanoindentation, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy tests. The results showed that the mechanical properties of strength, modulus, and hardness of the nanocomposites increased with the addition of NCC by 6.5%, 19%, and 150%, respectively. DSC results showed that the addition of NCC to PP does not affect the thermal stability (melting temperature). However, TGA showed that upon inclusion of NCC nanoparticles, the thermal stability of the samples improved compared to pure PP except for the 5% added NCC. This is attributed to the presence of NCC rod-like particles that dissipated heat by generating tortuous paths, as depicted in the SEM results and verified by FTIR results.

Stress‐life prediction of 25°C polypropylene materials based on calibration of Zhurkov fatigue life model

AbstractIn this study, to evaluate the chemical and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP), activation‐energy and tensile tests were performed at room temperature (25°C) on pure PP and PP reinforced with glass fibre (GF). To improve the prediction accuracy of the fatigue life, three models based on the calibration of the Zhurkov model were proposed: a regression model, modified strain‐rate model and lethargy coefficient‐based model. Based on the experimental data analysis and statistical assessment results, we proposed a modified strain‐rate model that satisfies the dependency of the physical parameters and is congruent with the predicted fatigue life data. The experimental data and modified strain‐rate model were compared with the direct cyclic analysis results. The tendency of the frequency factor as a correction parameter in the modified strain‐rate model corresponded to the experimental activation energy and the increasing GF content.

Melt-Mixed Thermoplastic Nanocomposite Containing Carbon Nanotubes and Titanium Dioxide for Flame Retardancy Applications

The study of polymeric nanocomposites is a possible alternative to conventional flame retardants. The aim of the present work is to investigate the effects of carbon-nanotubes (CNT) and TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) on the thermo-mechanical, flammability, and electrical properties of polypropylene (PP). In this work, PP-TiO2/CNT nanocomposites were obtained with TiO2/CNT mixtures (ratio 1:2) through the melt extrusion process, with different weight percentage of nanoparticles (1, 5, and 10 wt %). The PP-TiO2/CNT nanocomposites were characterized by DSC, TGA, MFI, FTIR, XRD, and SEM. It was possible to determine that the thermal stability of the PP increases when increasing the content of NPs. A contrary situation is observed in the degree of crystallinity and thermo-oxidative degradation, which decreased with respect to pure PP. The TiO2 NPs undergo coalition and increase their size at a lower viscosity of the nanocomposite (1 and 5 wt %). The mechanical properties decreased slightly, however, the Young’s modulus presented an improvement of 10% as well as electrical conductivity, this behavior was noted in nanocomposites of 10 wt % of NPs. Flammability properties were measured with a cone calorimeter, and a reduction in the peak heat release rate was observed in nanocomposites with contents of nanoparticles of 5 and 10 wt %

Enhanced mechanical and flame‐resistant properties of polypropylene nanocomposites with reduced graphene oxide‐functionalized ammonium polyphosphate and pentaerythritol

ABSTRACTA novel functionalized graphene oxide grafted by ammonium polyphosphate (GO‐APP) was synthesized through acylating chlorination method to improve the flame retardancy and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites in combination with pentaerythritol (PER). During the mixing process, GO‐APP nanosheets were thermally reduced and PP/rGO‐APP/PER composites were finally obtained. In comparison, PP/rGO‐APP/PER composites exhibit better mechanical, thermal, and flame‐retardant performances than those of PP/APP/PER composites when containing the same loading of total additives. PP/APP/PER 30 wt % composite only passes V‐1 rating in vertical burning tests (UL‐94), whereas PP/rGO‐APP/PER 25 wt % composite ranks V‐0 rating. Furthermore, PP/rGO‐APP/PER 30 wt % composite reaches the highest limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 31.2%, and its impact strength is almost three times higher than pure PP. The improvement in the fire safety is mainly due to the enhanced char yield, and the “tortuous path” effect caused by intercalate‐exfoliated structures formed in PP/rGO‐APP/PER composites. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Mechanical and aging resistance properties of polypropylene (PP) reinforced with nanocellulose/attapulgite composites (NCC/AT)

ABSTRACTIn this study, Polypropylene (PP) reinforced by nanocellulose/attapulgite composites (NCC/AT) was prepared. The mechanical properties and aging resistance of modified PP were studied. The morphology of modified PP was characterized by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The structure between NCC and AT was detected by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The proportion of NCC and AT on the mechanical properties of modified PP was investigated. The effect of the content of NCC/AT composites on the mechanical properties and aging resistance of modified PP were investigated. The results revealed that NCC/AT composite materials were prepared, and uniformly dispersed in the PP matrix. When the ratio of NCC and AT was 100:3 (m1/m2), the tensile strength and impact strength of modified PP were 32.85 MPa and 21.61 J/m, respectively. In addition, the tensile strength of modified PP with 3 wt% NCC/AT composites increased by 14.7% compared with pure PP. After 15 days of thermal aging, the retention rate of the tensile strength of modified PP was 98.81%, which was 5.16% higher than that of pure PP. The retention rate of impact strength of modified PP was 95.05%, which was 56.59% greater than that of pure PP.

Effects of thermal cycling on physical and tensile properties of injection moulded kenaf/carbon nanotubes/polypropylene hybrid composites

Polymer as well as polymer composites are inclined to premature due to effect on mechanical and physical properties during service time. In this paper, the effect of thermal cycling (−30 to 80 °C) on the physical and tensile properties of Polypropylene (PP), Kenaf/PP, Kenaf/PP/CNTs and Kenaf/CNTs/MAPP/PP hybrid composites for the injection moulded car battery tray was investigated. Although this study had found no physical changes on the samples in terms of colour or cracking, the samples, however, had experienced warpage and dimensional changes. The dimension of samples containing CNT had increased by 20%, while the PP and PP/Kenaf samples had decreased by 3.5% and 87%, respectively. Although the process of thermal cycling was found to have rapidly decreased the hardness of Pure PP and Kenaf/PP composites, it had, however, gradually increased the hardness of composites with CNT fillers. The tensile strength, Young's modulus and elongation of the composites had also been examined in this research. Furthermore, according to the fractographic investigations using scanning electron microscope, it is perceived that the fracture morphology of the samples is strongly influensed by thermal cycling.

The crystallization of polypropylene/halloysite fibers

The halloysite (HNT) in the form of nanotubes was used as an agent for the improved mechanical, thermo-mechanical as well as surface properties of polypropylene (PP) fibers. The halloysite is the nanoadditive that can affect differently the crystallization of PP in the non-oriented and oriented systems. The structure and mechanical properties of PP and PP/HNT fibers depended on the crystallinity and crystallization kinetics of PP at the fiber preparation. The Avrami method on the determination of isothermal crystallization kinetics parameters as well as an estimation of melting and crystallization temperatures and melting and crystallization enthalpies was used for the study of thermal behavior of polypropylene/halloysite non-oriented and oriented blends and fibers. Morphological structure, mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties of polypropylene/halloysite fibers were observed. An influence on all assessed properties was evaluated from the point of halloysite content in the PP and/or PP fibers. The increased HNT content in the non-oriented PP/HNT blends at the isothermal crystallization increases the rate crystallization (decreased t1/2 and free energy σe, increased K) of PP in comparison with the pure PP. The crystallinity of PP in the oriented PP/HNT fibers is not primarily affected by addition of the HNT content 3 mass% and does not change their mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties. 5 mass% HNT increases the crystallinity of PP in PP/HNT fibers expressing mainly the decrease in tenacity at the break, Young’s modulus and shrinkage.
