Shared Activities as a Protective Factor Against Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia and Caregiver Stress.

Most persons with dementia experience behavioral and psychological symptoms (BPSD). While there is evidence that structured activity programs can be beneficial for persons with dementia and their caregivers, it is not well understood how joint engagement in shared activities affects BPSD and caregiver stress. The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effect of doing a shared activity on the BPSD and caregiver stress. This study used an intensive longitudinal observational design in which caregivers completed baseline and once-a-day diary surveys for 21 days. Caregivers were asked whether they did a pleasant noncare activity with their relative, the presence of 8 BPSD, and their stress level. A moderation model in a structural equation model examined the relationship between these variables. Our sample consisted of 453 caregivers (87.4% female, 51.4% non-Hispanic White, mean age 53 years [standard deviation {SD}: 14]) and person living with dementia whose mean age was 79 years (SD: 9). On days when the caregivers engaged in a shared activity together with person living with dementia, there was a significant decrease in the BPSD (estimate -0.038, standard error [SE] = 0.016, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.069, -0.007, p value = 0.018). The effects of engaging in a shared activity decreased the impact of caregiver stress by 0.052 (estimate -0.052, SE = 0.018, 95% CI: -0.087, -0.017, p value = 0.004). At the between-person level, no differences were found in BPSD across caregivers who engaged or did not engage in shared activities. The results of our study indicate that doing a shared activity is associated with reduced BPSD among persons with dementia and may buffer the impact of caregiver stress on BPSD. Shared activities should be considered a key intervention component for dementia caregivers.

Affectionate Communication Mediates the Effects of Minority Stress on Mental Wellness for LGBTQIA+ Adults

ABSTRACT As a prosocial behavior, affectionate communication evidences a stress-buffering effect, ameliorating the deleterious effects of stressors on stress. Although much previous research has documented such an effect on physiological stress reactivity, the present study examines the ability of trait-level affectionate communication to mediate the effect of minority stress on mental wellness for LGBTQIA+ adults. Using a sample of U.S. American LGBTQIA+ adults (N = 494), this project demonstrates that psychological stress and depressive symptoms are negatively associated with trait affectionate communication and that trait affectionate communication partially mediates the effect of minority stress on these outcomes.

Justification for exogenous replacement of magnesium deficiency in women planning pregnancy: experienc of using the drug

Introduction. During pregnancy, the body’s need for most micronutrients increases, and therefore timely detection and adequate correction of deficient conditions are justified, starting from the stage of pre-gravidar preparation.Objective. The purpose of the study is to present literature data on the role of magnesium in homeostasis and own experience of the effectiveness of the use of magnesium preparation.Materials and methods. A review of the literature for 2021–2023 in the databases was conducted in the databases PubMed (the National Library of Medicine), The Cochrane Library, as well as in scientific citation databases (Scopus, Web of Science) The experience of own application of the preparation containing magnesium lactate dihydrate (470 mg) is also presented + pyridoxine hydrochloride (5 mg).Result and discussion. The intake of magnesium into the human body with food is insufficient. Exogenous magnesium replenishment is clinically justified in isolated or associated with other conditions of established deficiency, primarily with intense emotional and physical exertion, sleep deprivation, as well as with emotional lability, palpitations, muscle fasciculations, with magnesium elimination due to iatrogenic exposure or increased demand, for example, gestational-conditioned. Regular use of Magne B6® has demonstrated its effectiveness in the treatment of symptoms of psychological daily stress (fatigue, irritability, deterioration of sleep quality) in women planning pregnancy.Conclusions. The results obtained appear to be important in terms of reducing the risks of clinical progression of somatic symptoms and potential gestational complications, as well as improving the quality of life of childbearing age women who are actively planning to implement their reproductive function.

Vocal Self-Perception of Singers During COVID-19 Pandemic.

to compare the self-perception of vocal fatigue and use of singing voice during the COVID-19 pandemic between professional and amateur singers and to relate this self-perception with vocal use characteristics during this period. Participants were 121 singers divided into professional singers group (PSG) (12 men and 20 women) comprising singers who depended exclusively on singing as a profession and an amateur singers group (ASG) (37 men and 52 women) of singers who did not depend exclusively on singing for their livelihood. All answered online questionnaires through Google Forms ®. Sociodemographic and vocal characteristics were investigated before and during the pandemic; symptoms of vocal fatigue were assessed through the vocal fatigue index (VFI); and self-perception of use of singing voice through the evaluation of the ability to sing easily protocol for Brazil (EASE-Br). In the comparison between groups, the PSG presented higher scores of vocal fatigue in fatigue and vocal limitation (P=0.045), vocal restriction (P=0.002), and recovery with vocal rest (P=0.008) domains than did the ASG. There was no difference between the groups regarding the use of singing voice. Based on the relationship between self-perception and vocal use characteristics during the pandemic, it was observed that the presence of vocal complaint was the only factor associated with self-perception of fatigue symptomatology in both groups. Regarding the self-perception of the current status of the singing voice, singing time, the presence of vocal complaints, the need to increase visual concentration, and the perception of vocal worsening during the pandemic were considered predictive for amateur singers. For professional singers, vocal complaints and vocal training were predictors for self-perception of the current status of the singing voice. Professional singers presented with higher scores of vocal fatigue than did amateur singers. The symptomatology of vocal fatigue was associated with the presence of vocal complaints in both groups. However, self-perception of the current status of the singing voice was different between the groups and was associated with vocal training for professional singers and characteristics of vocal demand of singing voice during the pandemic period for amateur singers.

ASSOCIATION BETWEEN PSYCHOLOGICAL STRESS AND SKIN SYMPTOMS AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS STUDYING IN KARACHI

OBJECTIVE: To determine any association between psychological stress and skin symptoms in medical students. DESIGN OF STUDY: It is a cross-sectional study PLACE AND DURATION: The study was conducted over a period of 12 months, from 30th September 2022 to 1st August 1 2023, on medical students enrolled in the MBBS programme at Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College. METHOD: We studied medical students through self-reported, validated questionnaires that inquired about socio-demographic information, perceived stress, and skin complaints. Data analysis was done on SPSS version 22, and descriptive frequencies presented as the mean and standard deviation. Associations were assessed by applying the chi-square test among the variables. RESULTS: A total of 401 questionnaires were used to analyse the data, with a mean age of 20.9 (SD =1.6). We found that 15.7% (n = 28) of the medical students were highly stressed, 77.3% (n = 310) were moderately stressed, and 7% (n = 63) were under low stress. The most common skin symptoms among medical students were hair fall (76.6%) (n = 315) and dark circles (77.3%) (n = 314). Individuals with high PS levels were more likely to develop skin symptoms such as itchy skin on the hands (p = 0.005), pimples or acne (p = 0.049), troublesome sweating (p = 0.04), dark circles (p = 0.01), and hair greying (p = 0.035). CONCLUSIONS: Psychological stress is associated with skin symptoms reported by medical students, especially dark circles, loss of hair, greying of hair, troublesome sweating, and itchy rashes on the hands. Further studies and interventions should be done to assess and assist medical students.

Promoting mental health and preventing mental health problems in child and adolescent refugees and asylum seekers: A systematic review on psychosocial interventions

Background: According to the United Nations Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), children and adolescents represent 41% of all forcibly displaced individuals. They have to deal with conflicts, violence, and the many difficulties of flight and resettlement during a critical stage of their emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development. They are more likely to experience mental health problems during migration. Despite the several known risk factors, it is frequently challenging for refugees and asylum seekers to get mental health care. In this paper we review available studies on interventions aimed at promoting mental health and at preventing common mental disorders in immigrant adolescents and children. Methods: The relevant PubMed, Scopus, PsychINFO and Web of Science databases were searched for papers published until March 21, 2023, using (“immigrants” OR “migration” OR “asylum seekers” OR “refugees”) AND (“promotion” OR “prevention”) AND (“mental health” OR “mental disorders” OR “psych*”) AND (“children” OR “adolescents” OR “young adults”) as search string. Fourteen articles qualified for the detailed review. Results and Conclusions: The majority of available interventions, although highly heterogeneous in format and content, showed significant improvement in several psychopathological dimensions, including trauma-related symptoms, psychological stress, anxiety, depressive and cognitive symptoms. Available studies on interventions for the prevention of mental disorders and the promotion of mental health in refugees and asylum seekers children and adolescents indicate that provided interventions were associated with a global improvement for participants. Implementation strategies to improve their scalability are highly needed.

Relationship Between Genetic Variant Of OXTR (Rs53576) And MTNR1B (Rs1387153) And Symptoms Of Psychological Stress In Females With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

To assess the association of oxytocin receptor (rs53576) and melatonin hormone receptor 1B (rs1387153) gene single nucleotide polymorphisms with psychological symptoms in women with gestational diabetes mellitus. The case-control study was conducted from May 1 to June 1, 2022, at the Department of Physiology, University of Karachi, in collaboration with the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Aga Khan University, Karachi, and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi. Fifty gestational diabetic pregnant women and ninety healthy pregnant women were recruited. Sanger sequencing was performed to assess the genotypic frequency and polymorphic variation of all subjects. Perceived stress scale and diabetes-related distress scale were used to assess the stress levels. Data was analysed using SPSS 23. Of the 140 subjects, 90 (64.3%) were controls with mean age 24.96±4.35 years, and 50 (35.7%) were cases with mean age 28.78±5.25 (p<0.05). Mean body weight and mean gestational age were not significantly different between the groups (p>0.05). Melatonin hormone receptor 1B rs1387153 frequency was significantly different between the groups (p<0.05). Among the cases, a significant mean difference for regimen distress scores between AA and GG was observed for oxytocin receptor rs53576 (p=0.04). A significant mean difference in sum of PSS, diabetes-related stress, total diabetes- related stress and emotional distress was noted between CC and TT genotypes for melatonin hormone receptor 1B rs1387153 (p=0.001). MTNR1B rs1387153 genotypes were associated with perceived stress, diabetes-related stress, diabetic distress, and emotional burden, while OXTR rs53576 genotypes were associated with regimen distress in GDM women.

Children’s mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic: a population-based cohort study in the United States

PurposeExamine children’s mental health symptoms, including changes during the COVID-19 pandemic. MethodsThe COVID Experiences Surveys, designed to be representative of the U.S. household population, were administered online to parents of children aged 5–12 years (wave 1 (W1), October–November 2020, n = 1561; wave 2 (W2), March–May 2021, n = 1287). We modeled changes in children’s symptoms of anxiety, depression, and psychological stress and examined associations between demographic characteristics, COVID-19 related experiences, and protective factors with symptoms across both waves using generalized estimating equations. ResultsBased on parent-report, children’s symptoms of anxiety and depression decreased from W1 to W2 (Δ t-score anxiety = −1.8 [95% confidence intervals (CI): −2.5, −1.0]; Δ t-score depression = −1.0 [CI: −1.7, −0.3]). Psychological stress remained consistent. Across waves, older children and children with an emotional, mental, developmental, behavioral, physical, or medical condition were more likely to have specific poor mental health symptoms. Poor mental health symptoms were more likely among children with several contextual stressors (e.g., economic stress, parental emotional strain) and less likely among children with protective factors (e.g., daily routines, neighborhood cohesion). ConclusionsEstablishing programs that support mental health, improving access to mental health services, and fostering collaborations to advance children’s mental health is important.

The paradox of endless options and unrealistic expectations: understanding the impact on youth mental health

ABSTRACT There is substantial evidence pointing towards a rise in mental health problems among young people worldwide. A recent survey showed that, compared to older age groups, Faroese young people aged 18–24 struggled the most with symptoms of psychological stress, depression, and loneliness. They also worried more about their economic and housing conditions compared to their older counterparts. The reasons for the higher degree of young people´s mental health challenges, however, remain unclear. The aim of this study was therefore to gain insight into the contributors to young people´s mental health. Six semi-structured focus group interviews were conducted with 28 people aged 18–34. Through the thematic analysis, three main themes were identified: 1. Too many options, 2. High expectations and 3. Limiting small-scale living. We interpret these themes as being intricately connected to the recent societal changes, and we address the importance of understanding young people´s mental health considering this context.

Post-traumatic stress syndromes following childbirth influenced by birth mode-is an emergency cesarean section worst?

The experience of birth is an emotional challenge for women. Traumatic birth experiences can cause psychological stress symptoms up to post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), with impact on women's wellbeing. Primarily unplanned interventions can trigger birth-mode-related traumatization. The aim of the study was to evaluate whether an emergency cesarean section (ECS) is the most traumatizing. A retrospective case-control study was undertaken. Therefore, data were collected by standardized questionnaires (Impact of Event Scale-Revised and City Birth Trauma Scale) that were sent to women with singleton pregnancies > 34weeks of gestation who either give birth by ECS (case group, n = 139), unplanned cesarean section (UCS), operative vaginal birth (OVB), or natural birth (NB) (three control groups, n = 139 each). The investigation period was 5years. Overall, 126 of 556 (22%) sent questionnaires were returned and could be analyzed (32 ECS, 38 UCS, 36 OVB, and 20 NB). In comparison to other birth modes, women with ECS were associated with a higher degree of traumatization as revealed by statistically significant differences regarding the DSM-5 criteria intrusion and stressor. In addition, women who underwent ECS declared more frequently a demand for professional debriefing compared to other birth modes. ECS is associated with more post-traumatic stress symptoms compared to other birth modes. Therefore, early interventions are recommended to reduce long-term psychological stress reactions. In addition, outpatient follow-ups by midwives or emotional support programs should be implemented as an integral component of postpartum debriefings.

Psychological problems among husbands of women diagnosed with breast cancer in Punjab, Pakistan

The study examined the psychological health status of husbands whose wives were diagnosed with breast cancer. It was hypothesised that husbands of women with breast cancer would significantly suffer from more psychological distress, stress, anger, and somatic symptoms than husbands of healthy women. Using the purpose sampling method, a total of hundred participants (n = 100), including fifty husbands of women with breast cancer, while fifty husbands of women without breast cancer (healthy women) were selected from Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. The ages of husbands ranged from 31 to 50 years with mean age (M = 41.57; SD =5.91). Data was gathered through the Personal Information Form and other measures like the Psychological Distress Scale, Subscales of Stress, Anger and Somatic Symptoms Scale. Statistical analysis through independent samples t-test revealed a significant difference among husbands of women with and without breast cancer in relation to psychological distress, stress, anger, and somatic symptoms. Husbands of breast cancer patients are more prone to develop psychological problems as they encounter extremely tough challenges in life. From acceptance to breast cancer treatment, they face new hurdles with constant psychological pressure in psychological issues like psychological distress, stress, and somatic symptoms.

Relationship of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders and Psychological Distress in Young Adults

Background: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) relate to dysfunctions that impact the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), masticatory muscles, and connected structures. Psychological well-being can be among the various factors that TMD affects. Prior studies conducted in different countries have demonstrated a correlation between TMD symptoms and psychological distress in young adults. However, research on this topic is limited in Indonesia. Objective: To assess the association of symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder and psychological stress in young adults. Materials and Methods: This research employed an analytical cross-sectional design and involved 354 participants (141 males and 213 females) aged 19-21 from Kampus A of Universitas Trisakti. The subjects' general characteristics, including gender, age, and ethnicity, were described. The data were gathered through two types of questionnaires: DC/TMD axis I (Symptom Questionnaire) and axis II (Patient Health Questionaire-PHQ-4), and were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test administered through Google Form. Result: The study's findings revealed that 141 participants (39.8%) were male, while 213 (60.2%) were female. Among the research subjects, 91 individuals - 32 males and 59 females - experienced the most discomfort in the pain category, with the mean PHQ-4 score for pain being the highest at 4.68. The bivariate analysis demonstrated a moderate correlation coefficient value (r = 0.401) and a significant relationship (p 0.05) between temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in the pain category and psychological distress. The prevalence of TMD was 39.8% in males and 60.2% in females. Conclusions: TMD is a common problem among young adults aged 19-21 years, and pain associated with TMD can lead to psychological distress in this age group.

SOCIAL NETWORKS AND SUPPORT FOR WOMEN SURVIVING THE LOSS OF A SPOUSE

Aim. To discuss the results of the study on the effectiveness of psychological assistance to women experiencing the loss of a spouse in the form of social networks support groups.Methodology. The study used the comparison method of the results of psychodiagnostics of two groups of women who participated and did not participate in a psychological assistance program in the VK (social network) support groups. The research also relies on a number of psychodiagnostic techniques aimed at studying psychological characteristics of women. To process the data obtained, methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis, methods of mathematical data processing were used.Results. The study proves the effectiveness of the proposed psychological program of assistance to women experiencing the loss of a spouse, implemented through a social network community. It was determined that women who have completed the program tend to experience reduced impact of a psychotraumatic event on their general psychological state, as well as a decrease in the level of psychological stress and depressive symptoms manifestations. Emerging models of coping behavior and strategies for coping with stress tend to be optimized in terms of getting out of social “isolation”, making social contact and seeking social support.Research implication. The results obtained and the materials presented in this article, as well as the proposed organizational and methodological recommendations for the program, expand the possibilities of providing psychological assistance to people facing the loss, and allow the material to be used by practicing psychologists working with the above-mentioned problem.

The biopsychosocial impacts of anxiety on overactive bladder in women.

Links between emotional state and the bladder have long been recognized, as psychological comorbidity is a common feature of overactive bladder (OAB). However, how psychological factors might contribute to the development and severity of OAB remains unclear. Therefore, we sought to examine the effect of anxiety on OAB with a specific focus on bladder hypersensitivity. In a sample of 120 adult women with OAB, we compared those with at least mild anxiety (PROMIS Anxiety score ≥55) to those with lower anxiety. Analyses focused on patient-reported questionnaires assessing urinary symptom severity and quality of life, psychological stress symptoms, general somatic symptoms, and results of quantitative sensory testing (QST), including temporal summation to heat pain (TSP). TSP was used to index elevated C-fiber responsiveness (i.e., central sensitization). Thirty-six (30%) women had at least mild anxiety. While there were no group differences for urinary symptom severity, more anxious women reported worse OAB-specific quality of life, greater psychological stress burden, higher stress reactivity, and greater somatic symptoms. On QST, there were no differences between anxiety groups for pain threshold (43.6 ± 3.1°C vs. 44.0 ± 3.1°C, p = 0.6) and tolerance (47.3 ± 1.5°C vs. 47.4 ± 1.6°C, p = 0.7). However, those with anxiety had significantly higher TSP than those without anxiety (6.0 ± 4.8 vs. 3.7 ± 3.9, p = 0.006), indicating greater central sensitization. Women with OAB and at least mild anxiety symptoms reported greater psychosocial burdens (i.e., psychological stress, stress reactivity, OAB-specific QOL) and somatic symptom severity and demonstrated greater central sensitization on QST than those without anxiety. These findings support the hypothesis that anxiety and psychological stress impact hypersensitivity mechanisms that may underlie and contribute to OAB, although further research is needed to better understand how and to what extent.

Correlates of Psychological Stress and Trauma Symptoms with COVID-19 Exposure among Healthcare Workers in a Tertiary Hospital

Abstract Background: During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Healthcare workers (HCWs) have been at the frontline of the healthcare and have reported higher risk of infection along with higher stress levels. This study aims to understand the association of the stress and trauma related symptoms in HCWs in relation to the COVID 19 exposure. Methods: A prospective follow up study was conducted in HCWs working at two obstetric centers in India from July to August 2020. HCWs who had been exposed to COVID 19 patients were assessed for stress and trauma related symptoms before the RTPCR test and once after the RTPCR test results were out. The Self Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20), Perceived Stress scale (PSS) and Impact of Event Scale – Revised (IES-R) were used to assess the stress and trauma related symptoms in HCWs. Results: A total of 151 HCWs participated in the study. 120 (79.4%) of the participants were female. 95 out of the 151 (62.5%) participants belonged to the 20-40 years age group. There was a significant reduction in stress related scores of HCWs in both SRQ-20 and PSS after the RTPCR results. Conclusion: There is increased psychological distress in HCWs after exposure to COVID infection, which significantly decreases once their COVID test is done. This indicates that the fear of infection itself is a stressful and traumatic process affecting the HCWs. The results highlight the importance of screening HCWs for stress related symptoms after exposure. Providing immediate psychological support to the HCWs will improve mental status and working capacity at the earliest.

The Mental Health of the Peruvian Older Adult during the COVID-19 Pandemic

During the pandemic, the elderly population was the most exposed to disease and changes in their daily lives. The objective was to determine the association between demographic factors, access to health services, sources of information, and physical symptoms in the mental health of the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic-a study with 3828 older adults residing in nine cities in Peru. The data was collected using a web-based survey, and the instruments of demographic data; exposure to information (radio, television, and internet); and presence of physical symptoms, anxiety, and perceived stress were used. Descriptive and analytical analysis was performed. Female sex, those aged between 60 and 79 years old, those with secondary education, those in their own home, those residing in an urban area, and those using public services of health predominated in this study. Likewise, 62.9% presented depressive symptoms; on the stress scale, an average of 27.81 (SD = 8.71), and on the anxiety scale, an average of 27.24 (SD = 6.04). Moreover, 65.1% reported fatigue, 62.2% had a headache, and 61.2% lack of energy. There is an association between demographic variables and the physical and psychological symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms in the elderly during the pandemic.

History of trauma and COVID-19-related psychological distress and PTSD.

The COVID-19 pandemic has a great impact on society as a whole. Yet the pandemic and associated mandatory lockdown in several countries may have increased the vulnerability of certain populations. The present study aimed to document the frequency of clinical level of psychological distress and COVID-19 related post-traumatic stress symptoms in youth during the first wave of the pandemic. The study more specifically explored the role of prior trauma and adverse life events as a vulnerability factor for negative outcomes. A sample of 4914 adolescents and young adults from the province of Quebec, Canada was recruited online through social networks during the first wave of COVID-19. Results revealed that 26.6% of youth displayed serious psychological distress and 20.3% probable PTSD symptoms. The number of past traumas and adversity experienced showed a dose-response relation with the prevalence of psychological distress and PTSD. After controlling for socio-demographic characteristics and COVID-19 related variables (exposure, fear, suspicion of having the infection), participants with a history of five traumas and more presented a two-fold risk of serious psychological distress and probable PTSD. Emotion dysregulation was also associated with an increased risk of symptoms while resilience was linked to a reduced risk of distress.

No study that would deal with the prevalence of burnout syndrome in psychiatrists has been carried out in Slovakia to date, even though it is a high-risk profession. We have therefore investigated the symptoms of burnout in physicians within all Slovak psychiatric workplaces, in relation to individual differences. The participants filled in the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Questionnaire for Identification of Stress Level and Burnout Syndrome. We aimed to detect their levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment as well as physical, psychological, emotional, and social symptoms of work-related stress and burnout. The remaining items of our interest concerned the participants’ age, length of practice, gender, provision of the institutional emergency care, and type of workplace. Over one third of Slovak psychiatrists expressed a low degree of personal accomplishment, one quarter reported a high level of depersonalization and nearly one half suffered a high level of emotional exhaustion. Not only the levels of emotional and physical symptoms, but also the overall level of burnout, were significantly higher in female psychiatrists. More experienced psychiatrists as well as those who do not provide the institutional emergency care expressed higher levels of personal accomplishment. To address the issues revealed both in our study and the previous research we recommend implementation of measures focused on the support of mental health of healthcare workers across the whole society. In addition, more attention is needed to the active use of preventive measures at all psychiatric workplaces by both the employers and the psychiatrists themselves.

Objective: To determine the risk of stress in dental students at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.&#x0D; Material and methods: The design of the study is observational, descriptive, analytical, retrolective and cross-sectional. The selection of the sample was non-probabilistic, a form that includes psychological and physical symptoms of stress was used. Polish adaptation of the Short Version of the Occupational Self-Efficacy Scale (SVOSES)

This article presents the verification of the factor structure and validation of the Polish version of the Short Version of the Occupational Self-Efficacy Scale (SVOSES), developed by Rigotti et al. The study was questionnaire-based and took place in a "paper-and-pencil" format. They were conducted on 2 independent samples of 1261 and 205 employees, respectively. The factor structure of the tool was checked by means of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Its reliability was calculated using 2 methods - Cronbach's α measure (internal consistency) and test-retest method (temporal stability). The theoretical validity of the scale was estimated using correlation analysis in which the criterion variables were: meaning of work, job satisfaction, general self-efficacy, psychological stress symptoms, somatic stress symptoms, and burnout. The univariate structure of the scale was confirmed, consistent with the original version, as well as the theoretical validity and reliability. The Polish version of the SVOSES can be used as a diagnostic instrument for research in the field of mental health at work, as well as in practical activities, e.g., career counseling, recruitment, selection or screening.
