From the life of psychiatric institutions

Before us is a report (belated) of the St.Petersburg city hospital of St. Panteleimon for the mentally ill for 1905 and three reports for 1907 of the hospitals: Pokrovskaya - Moscow Provincial Zemstvo, Odessa City Psychiatric Hospital and Psychiatric Hospital of Penza Provincial Zemstvo.

From the observation of the cholera epidemic of 1908. Bath for cholera treatment

The purpose of this note is to share with comrades some observations made by me during the cholera epidemic of the current year. When the epidemic detachment of the Saratov provincial zemstvo was in charge in August and the first half of September, I had to work among the rather rude and little-cultured population of the Tsaritsyn district.

Comparing these data, we see that indeed, with the introduction of bed rest, the number of isolations has decreased, especially in the women's department, where it went down from 972 to 304 on average per year; however, by themselves 196 and 304, the number of isolations in the men's and women's departments during bed rest must be considered very large.
 As is known, in Kolmov the physical work of the mentally ill was introduced almost from the first days of the administration of the Kolmov hospital by the Novgorod Zemstvo; they were introduced by the Administration not for a therapeutic purpose, but in the calculation of the material benefit from the work of the mentally ill.

In our hospital, as in other zemstvo psychiatric hospitals, reports are annually submitted to the Provincial Zemstvo Assembly; no matter how carefully and in detail these reports were compiled, but in view of the fact that they consider only one current year, often without comparison with previous years, the digital data on the number of patients treated, on their movement according to the type of disease, are small, due to all this, these reports cannot elucidate the various questions of practical and theoretical psychiatry; the summation of data over a long period of time will undoubtedly be of great service for the clarification of many questions.

A case of hysteria with prolonged spontaneous periods of catalepsy

Among the very diverse symptoms in which hysteria is expressed, one of the largest places is occupied by dream-like states and, mainly, those that arise spontaneously, and not under the influence of hypnosis, although they are not very common. Such conditions are known to include catalepsy, lethargy, and somnabulism. One of these states I had to observe partly in the Kazan provincial zemstvo hospital, partly in the Kazan District Hospital.

On the question of vesicovaginal fistulas and their operative treatment

(Hospital gas. Botkin, 1898, No. 3 and 4, pp. 87 and 147).For nine years (1889-1897) in the Saratov provincial zemstvo hospital, there were 44 (4.36 / o) per 1004 gynecological patients who underwent surgery with vesicovaginal fistulas. Of this number, 33 were peasant women (75 / o).

During the reporting period, there were 787 clans, mainly among peasants and bourgeois women, married, Russian by origin.
